I dig my toes into the sand
The ocean looks like a thousand diamonds
Strewn across a blue blanket
I lean against the wind
Pretend that I am weightless
And in this moment I am happy...happy

I wish you were here
I wish you were here
I wish you were here
I wish you were here

NotW: Howling Seas

Inavi is a town built upon a small island in the Lanun nation. Aside from that fact there was absolutely nothing interesting about it. Only reason why one may wish to visit the place was to restock on supplies as they sailed past the island.

‘So what the hell is up with these people?’ the barmaid Sonny thought as she pushed her way through the crowd of people inside the inn. Indeed, only sailors and the occasional merchants visited this place, not people like the priests or some members of a Balseraph troupe.

“Sonny! One more drink!” shouted somebody.

“Coming!” she yelled across the inn. ‘Boy, this day is going to be bloody busy,’ she thought.

Funny how she mentioned the word ‘bloody’ though.

…………………………………………………………………………….

Mayor Seon quickly walked through the seaside road. He shuddered. The darn place gave him the creeps.

“Howdy Mayor!” a voice yelled out. The mayor stumbled forward. “Oh. Sorry if I scared you.”

The mayor quickly turned to the source of the voice. He saw a familiar face. “Oh it’s you. What are you doing here?”

“Just on a night stroll. Like you!” the owner of the voice said. “By the way, mayor-“

Lighting flash. Rain drops.

“What? Freak storm?” the mayor muttered. “Hey, my house is nearby. Do you want to go there until this storm blows over?”

The figure nodded. “Let’s do that…”

Basic Summary:
Hello, and welcome to my first NotW! People who followed the links in my signature and visited CFC would know what I am talking about. So what is NotW? Just follow this link to find out! (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=323633)

If you are like me and is usually too lazy to go through any hyperlinks, here is a basic summary:

NotW, or Night of the Werewolves, is a mafia game usually set in the universe of Fall From Heaven, a popular mod for Civ 4. Interesting part comes from that fact that everybody has his/her own unique role and backstory. The names of the said roles are proudly displayed upon the first page. As everyone knows who each other are, roleplay becomes much more important. The rules on roleplaying will be detailed later on the rules section.

So wait, some of you may be wondering. So why not just kill all the roles with the name "Mafia goon" in it? That's because all the "Mafia goons" are disguised. beefy being...let's say...a technician...doesn't mean that he can't be a member of an evil cult with a horde after horde of acid spitting monstrosities to kick around. Your favourite space marine may actually be a werewolf under all that armor and your favourite Town Idiot may be Mask DeMasque the Masked Thief. This, of course, works both ways. Your favourite Town Idiot may, instead of being Mask DeMasque, be a Super Sleuth in disguise.

Oh, and a rule at the core of NotW. THE DEAD MAY NOT SPEAK. The dead may not post in the Game thread. The dead may not talk with the living via PM or IM. THE DEAD MAY NOT EVER DISCUSS STRATEGY WITH THE LIVING. Simple "I HATE YOU ALL!" or "MWAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA" is okay though as long as it's funny and there's no substance behind those words.

Of course, knowing all the roles of the people and also knowing that the dead do not speak raises an interesting dilema for the mafia. Do you kill Secura on day 1 to prevent her from steamrolling over your team on day 6, or do you kill the random poor Joe Schmuck named Seon who's role name sounds suspisciously powerful.

That's enough basic summary. These rules will be covered in more detail in the "Rules" Section.

Welcome to Inavi, an island town in the Lanun nation. What is the Lanun nation, you say. Lanun nation is comprised of various archipelago in the Aegean sea. Around 50~75% of its population is a pirate, merchant, or both. Oh yeah, and it's ruled by democracy. Pirates, cutthroats, and other criminals from all over the nations come together at Innsmouth the pirateville the capital city of the Lanun nation to decide upon who has the biggest :daisy:.

Unfortunately Inavi is so backwater that it misses out on most of these actions. Perhaps that's just so. Perhaps it is just alright to live in peace in one of the most volatile nations in Erebus. Besides, what could possibly happen to this peaceful town?

Rules

Time Cycle – The game will alternate between 48 hour days and 24 hour nights. During the daytime, accusations and item votes may be made, and public messages may be posted. During the night, player abilities may be used in secret by PM'ing the GM. Private messages may be sent regardless of the time of day.

Note also that secret messages can be sent through the GM. Just PM me whatever you want the message to be, and whether you want it to be public, or forwarded anonymously to a particular player, and it will be done upon the next morning, midday, or evening post.

Voting – There will be no voting, just accusations. The first day 2/3 of accusations are needed to kill a player. The next 2 days a majority of the accusations are needed, after that more than the runner up is the only thing needed.

When disaster strikes, you find yourself an isolated group with a werewolf (or whatever) among you, is it reasonable that the first thing you do is start voting on one person to hang per day? Heck no.

When disaster strikes, you find yourself an isolated group with a werewolf (or whatever) among you, is it reasonable that accusations fly back and forth, tempers flare, steel flashes and blood is spilled? Heck yeah!

My mechanic is intended to capture exactly this subtle difference. In my games there were no votes and no hangings. There were accusations and (more or less) accidental deaths. In effect they are exactly similar, but one gives a believable story and the other doesn't.

For the players, the only difference is that they should take care to cast their accusations in roleplay style, so instead of "The Wool Merchant gets my vote", you would instead have to say "I find the Wool Merchant's presence very unsettling, I bet he is the werewolf that has arrived among us". Not much different for how most already play, and how IMO everyone should play.

For the GM, the difference is a bit more tricky, but also more liberal. Instead of the everyday hanging, beheading, throwing off a cliff, walking the plank or whatever standard lynch mechanism has been used, you get to do the death free-style, different each day. In my game the wool merchant was trying to escape the angry people at the table that had started throwing their wine goblets after him, and as he ran he tripped and fell down the stairs and broke his neck. He was innocent. The Guardsman on the other hand was first accused by the noble Knight, and when it came down to it the Knight drew his sword in challenge, to which the Guardsman answered by growing furs. Then I could implement that death as the Knight killing the Guardsman in single combat.

You get the idea. Roleplaying and storytelling in a believable setting, rather than trying to tack an unreasonable and not believable out-of-game mechanic (the voting) into the setting itself.

In addition to accusation, it is possible to give someone your vote of confidence. This work as an inverse accusation.
There will also be some items revealed during the course of the game. These will be voted for publicly. A person with “normal” accusation power would get 1 vote. Those with more accusation power get the equivalent amount of votes.

Any accusations or votes can be sent privately to the GM and will then be announced in the evening post.

Injuries – Some things might cause some players to be injured. While injured a person normally can’t accuse someone nor perform night actions. Injuries will be cured in 36 game hours (if injured during night on day 5, you would be cured by midday of Day 7). If there are any other mechanics to remove injury, it will remain a secret.

Character stats – There will be numerous stats for each character; the only one available in the thread will be your public title and your gender.

Nationality – Everyone will get a nationality, these might not work as you think and they will not be public available, most people in the games will be Lanun however as this is a Lanun village.

Victory Condition – This is the title for how you win the game. The one most people get is “Innocent”.

Items – Several people will get items. These can be transferred privately at any update post (morning/midday/evening). They can also be revealed privately between parties this way. They can also be revealed in public.

You will also get listed abilities if you have any.

Communication Etiquette – Regarding public messages, try to keep night talking to a minimum. Also, if you have OOC stuff to talk about that doesn't pertain to playing the game, talk about it in the signup thread or in the general NotW thread. That means that if you're suspicious of someone 'cause there was no night kill last night, and this person was inactive, by all means post it in the thread. If, on the other hand, you saw an image in the mustard on your chilli dog that totally reminded you of something that one of your fellow players said the other day, it'd probably go best elsewhere. And one other thing: If you're dead, don't make any posts regarding the game, please.

Regarding private messages, there's a reason they're called private. Don't directly copy and paste quotes from private messages into other private messages or into public posts. Summarize them if you want, but don't give a word-for-word quote, and don't give the impression that you're doing so. Simlarly no direct copying of IM logs either.

Finally, remember that this last rule goes doubly for any PMs you have from the GM - do not, under any circumstances, copy and paste your ability description, your motivation, your victory condition, or anything else from your starting PM. The same goes for confirmations of ability use or whatever. Summarize it if you want, but word-for-word quotes are not permitted.

They're not as scary and unfamiliar as you would think. Since my first mafia game WAS a NotW, I didn't really see the difference. But, there are a few differences.
For one, EVERYTHING is done in roleplay. Everything. Don't say mafia, say werewolves. Don't say scanner, say prophet.
The only other major difference is that the universe is based off Fall from Heaven, a Civilization mod. Follow the link in the OP if you want to know more about it.

Only twice? :) But seriously, I at least play quite differently in NOTWs than in Mafias. I suppose this game will resolve the question of whether it's the style or the website ;)

Morning Day 1

Barmaid Sonny was walking home after a hard day's work at the inn. It was cold, it was raining, and the wind seemed to be strong enough to fling her into the air. Tiny bulletlike drops of rain pelted all over her body.

*Crunch*

She let out a scream.

In the dark, imagination runs wild. Sometimes, a piece of log is mistaken for a crayolic Ninny. Sometimes, if you are also drunk, you can mistake a werewolf for a prostitue. I won't even begin to list the number of man who had his... actually, I will let your imagination take hold there. In any case, Sonny was no exception to this rule; a terrified squirrel raced out of the forest.

Sonny took a few moment to compose herself again and laughed. She really had to stop worrying so much. She began to walk home again.

"I wonder what made the little guy so scared though," Sonny muttered.

*crunch*.

Sonny shrieked. Or at least, she tried to. A split second after she heard the thing, the beast knocked all the air out of her lungs with a single swipe of its claws and proceeded to eat the look of terror right off of Sonny's face.

.................................................................................................... ....................

"What was that?" The Mayor Seon looked outside the window.

"Nothing I'm sure," the figure said. "Probably just some dog barking."

"We don't have dogs in this town..." the mayor muttered and took his eyes off the window. "Well, do you want some more tea?"

"No thank you. I've had enough already. So, by the way Mr. Mayor, where is it?"

"Where is wha..." the mayor's eyes widened in horror as the figure's face began to change form.

"It's YOU!" the mayor screamed and grabbed for his sword
Morning after the stormy night. Rain had slowed to a slight drizzle and the wind had calmed significantly. Still the accursed storm cloud continued to gather above the godforsaken island. It seemed as if the term was coined specifically for this particular island. Forsook by god.

Crows gathered above the forest. Below, the body of Sonny lay chewn to almost beyond any recognition. Around her lay footprints of some creature. Something half-man and half wolf...

"It's a werewolf track!" One of the villagers said. All the villagers looked at eachother and fled back towards the village, leaving the remains of Sonny to be feasted upon by crows. The ravaged remains of a 21 year old and the presence of werewolves would not be the last of the horrors that the village would face today, however. When the terrified villagers ran like sheeps towards the mayor's house to inform him of the disaster, they found the mayor's wife weeping in the courtyard, her 14 year old daughter huming and flapping her arms as if she was a bird, and the butler attempting in vain to console the wife. When asked what happened, the butler simply told them to visit the mayor's room.

Several of the villagers shrieked in horror as they opened a door to the mayor's room. The remains of Sonny was nothing compared to the hell hole that the mayor's room had become overnight. Blood, flesh, and bone fragments of the mayor covered almost every single surface. In the epicenter of the explosion, an ornate sword of black material lay halfway out of its scabbard. A particularly brave soul walked into the room, stepping on body parts and wading through the swamp of blood to retrieve the sword. As soon as he rushed out of the room, another villager slammed shut the door. They would be back to investigate later.

Panic erupted from the villagers. Travelers did so too when they heard the news. Nobody would come and save them while the storm cloud was still gathered outside. The merchant's sloop, only ship capable of reaching other islands, was beached during the last night's storm and had its bottom scraped clean off.

The survivors of the village gathered into the inn, unsure what to do. On the bar counter lay the ornate sword of the mayor as if it was expecting a new owner.

Day 1 begins. For a successful lynch during this phase, 2/3rds the people present must accuse the same player

Excuse me good sir, but I am unfamiliar with this "bat man," in fact, that sounds suspiciously like wolf man, meaning werewolf of course. I'm afraid I simply cannot advocate your receiving this clearly valuable weapon. I would instead say that the retired captain Autolycus should receive the sword, after all, he is the one who most likely has experience with weapons.

The child giggles at the innocent insult he just delivered before running off to his mother.
"Mom, mom! Last night I dreamt about this giant bauble of glass, filled with enormeous, dangerous insects. And everyone was trying to lift the bauble to let the killer insects free, because the mayor wanted to build his summer residence where it was lying!"

The retired captain comes stumping out of his house on a peg-leg, looking highly displeased
"Alright, not only has someone started killing people, but my scimitar's been stolen! If whoever took it returns it to me by the end of today, there will be no repercussions. Lanun don't steal from Lanun. But while it's missing, I, Autolycus am perfectly willing to use the ornate sword of our late Mayor. Although it looks a bit too jeweled to be really practical."

The towns second watchman looked at the sword with great admiration - It was a marvelous sword. Taking the eyes of the masterpiece he looked around him only to find his admiration of the sword shifted with the disgust he felt towards the town's idiot. "pff Riff Raff, under more peaceful circumstances I would have him tossed out", the brave watchman found himself thinking. Finally after his mood was ruined by the appearance of the town's idiot, it was just as quickly recovered, when he noticed his former captain. The best captain this town had ever had, he often told his friends. Learning that his former captain had lost his sword, the brave and ever vigilant watchman burst out in anger

"Captain, my quarterstaff was stolen as well! I urge you to rejoin the guard, we need you more than ever. Please Autolycus take the sword, the Mayor had left behind and lead the guard once again."

Alexander finishes playing, stands, and elegantly bows to the crowd. Then he turns to the watchman
No no no my friend, do not send the child away. Can you not see that my fine tune has enchanted her, whisking the sadness of death from her. It would be cruel to send her away, especially at a time as dangerous as this. Thunder and lighting may deal with criminals and vagrants, but a child is better soothed with a reassuring word and a kind smile.
Turning to the young girl, with an exagerated gleeming smile.
Now child, this toy is not for you, you might hurt yourself. Would you not rather have a pretty doll? I'm sure your mother would much rather you had that. Speaking of your mother, where is she child, I would be just delighted to meet such a fine woman, and to sooth her in this time of need.

A pleasure madam. I'm sure the watchman can wield a sword ably enough, but to protect you in times such as these you need a man with a certain, flair, wouldn't you say. A man that knows the finer things in life, a man upon whom such a flower as you shall not be wasted. Worry not my lady, for I can satisfy all these demands. With me watching out for you, no beast would dare strike.

Alexander flashes a dazzling smile at Diana before returning to his feet.

Worry not, The Great Nightbringer, who has dazzled thousands, defeated the terrible Black Knight of Helmsted, scared off the beast of the Pitch Bogs, and won the affection of every lady that has heard him play, and I might add, kept his virtue sacrosanct throughout; will protect you.

Midday 1 Update

They say that of all the gods, Mammon is the most influential. Greed is a vice that almost everyone, from the fairest citizen of the Bannor to the vampric overlords of the Calabim, have. The poor saps who found themselves in Inavi was of no exception. Soon enough, the ornate sword of the late mayor found itself in the hearts of the debate between almost every people.

Finally, one villager grew restless. "We can't just stand around like this, we need to find out who would have killed the mayor and Sonny. Besides, we can't leave Sonny's body outside like that. I say we go there and investigate the area...and recover her body.

The villagers murmured among themselves. Couldn't they see quite clearly that it was done by a werewolf? What if it was still lurking in the forest? Besides, some argued. Investigating the crime scene would surely distract the people from the real thing that needs to be done. That thing being catching werewolves.

When someone had died or was dying or was so ill they gave up what little hope they
could sacrifice, they cut parallel lines into the cliff, exposing the white chalk beneath.
With the right eyes you could see them from the mainland or the fishing boats and
know to send aid or impose a cordon of protection, and wait a generation until
whatever pestilence stalked the cliff paths died along with its hosts. My lines are just
for this: to keep any would-be rescuers at bay.

Evening Update 1

Evening again. The accursed rain once again began to pour from the clouds. Seas seemed to howl as the speed of the wind approached unprecedented level.

Meanwhile, the two watchmen that were sent to investigate Sonny’s body cursed the gods and the other villagers for sending them out alone in such a weather condition. But that was mostly their problem and surely not of much notice to the other villagers.

“But mommy!” the Mayor’s daughter, shouted. “I want daddy’s pokey stick. Give it to me! GIVE IT!”

The blacksmith, Romanic, laughed. “Don’t worry. I promise I will give it back to your family later.” The other villagers nodded in agreement. Surely someone like the blacksmith would be the one to take care weapons in a dangerous circumstance like this. The mayor’s daughter walked to the corner of the inn and pouted.

“Hey! They are coming back!” the Traveling Actress shouted. She pointed outside the window at the two silhouettes walking towards the inn. Sure enough, the watchmen burst angrily through the door, soaked to the bones. “I need a towel,” the first watchman demanded.

“Well,” the innkeeper asked. “What did you find?”

“Nothing!” the other watchman snapped. “Absolutely nothing. Nada! Just a half eaten corpse of a young lady which we buried in the town cemetery. You should really try that out sometimes. It really is a unique experience. Trying to dig a hole and bury a corpse inside it while trying as hard as you can not to look at the ravaged corpse. I felt nothing like that before!”

“What he’s saying,” the first watchman said. “is that the whole affair was a bloody waste of time.

The villagers all broke into chatter. They couldn’t believe it. There was a werewolf among them and they had just wasted the first day.

“Screw this,” somebody said. “I’m going home. I need to sleep,” “me too.” “me three.” One by one, the villagers left the inn, trying as hard as possible to forget that the whole affair even happened.

Morning Update 2

The rain and the wind had now died back to the annoying drizzling and slight growls now. Still, the storm clouds continued to gather and now people were starting to feel the general sense of unease about the whole place.

The first Watchman and the Village Elder was hovering around the crime scene. Herbalist came rushing in, took a single look at the crime scene, and then fled mumbling something about another appointment at the inn. "So," the Watchman mumbled. "What do you think?"

The elder raised an eyebrow. "You must be joking."

"Oh wait!" the Watchman mumbled. "I have a secret weapon right here!" he took out a small bottle.

"What is it?" the elder asked.

"It's some kind of magic fluid I got from mainland," he said as he sprayed the liquid inside the bottle around the crime scene. "Just as I thought..." he mumbled.

"What? What happened?" the village elder looked at the crime scene, which was now glowing ghostly blue.

"It seems that the entire area..." the Watchman paused for a dramatic effect. "Has been saturated with semen."

The village elder's eyes nearly popped out of its sockets. "IT'S BLOOD, YOU IDIOT!" he yelled. He then immediately stormed off towards the town.

"What? Blood? But that means..." the Watchman sadly turned back towards the crime scene and at the ravaged corpse of Joooray. "Yeah, the guy's dead." He took off his hat and offered a small prayer to whatever gods the dwarven tinkerer may have done. "Oh what's this?" he said as he picked up 3 spheres. It would be put to vote later.

Joooray was Innocent!
.............................................................

"I'm here, what did you want me fo...oh..." the scholar said as he walked into the bar. The innkeeper grimly greeted him and pointed to God Emperor's naked body. "So, what's your opinion of it?"

The scholar took one look at the body. "Did you call the herbalist yet?"

The innkeeper sighed. "Yeah, she took one look at the body and fled as if the world was out to get her or something. Your opinion?"

"The guy's dead," the scholar said.

The innkeeper sighed. "Even I could tell that, Mr. Intellectual. What I want to know is how he died, why is he naked, and what the hell is he doing in my inn."

"Oh," the scholar said. "Perhaps it was Colonel Mustard in the study with the...no wait that wouldn't work..."

The innkeeper sighed. "Well, I guess I should move the body to a place where it wouldn't bother other people. Could you help me carry his equipment?"

The Scholar nodded and tried to pick up God Emperor's equipments. Something fell to the ground with a clattering sound. "Oh what's this now?" the scholar said out aloud as he picked up the object. It was a Bejeweled Scimitar.

God Emperor was Innocent!

.....................................................................

Now the villagers crowded themselves into the small inn. They all glared at each other, unsure of what was to happen.

"Uhh..." one of the villagers tried to break the ice. "Why don't we go and search the Mayor's room? You know... for clues..."

The Watchman opened his eyes. "I am SO not burying that body."

The eyes of the child grows vivid with life as he notices the three spheres. "Toys!"
He pauses for a second, before blushingly stating, "Death is Yonder can have them. He sends the girl an emberrassed glance before his attention is caught by another marvel; the wondrous weapon of the late God Emperor. Once again, his first reaction is greed, and he stares in amazement at the beauty of the item, before shaking his head. "CaptainC would need it, I think!"

"Investigation? I don't care, it's boring and it was useless yesterday. But the adults can decide if they want to look at more blood for themselves. I want to go play!"
He motions for ACompletelyInoffensiveName and Nictel to join him. "Let's catch a fish!"

I don't think that investigating is sufficient action at this time. remake20 is as good a candidate as any I've seen so far for the orbs, although I may change my mind, and I will be more inclined to give them to someone who helps me reclaim my scimitar.

Alexander looks shocked when his name is mentioned in a tone so far removed from the usual fawning admiration he is used to.

My Lady! I am shocked to hear you speak so ill of me. I am most truly sorry I did not see you enter, but I hope we may put this behind us. I can asume you, that I, Nightbringer, have a gleam in my eye for no reason but your own beauty. Alexander bows and whisks his hat of his head as he says this, before standing and flashing a bright smile to the mayors wife.

About the matter at hand, I agree investigation did not help us then, but perhaps this second time will be more fruitful, after all, surely a clue must be hidden somewhere. Secondly, we have no real leads at this point. I can tell you from experience, that clever investigation is the true secret to finding a werewolf. Alexander gives a knowing nod to the audience. I tracked down the Mad Werecat of Tolbrook by observing her pattern, and positioning myself so as to be her next victim, allowing me to fell her with ease. Can I have a penny, good sir? Thank you sir. You did decide, good sir -- you decided the Grape Farmer remake would be a better choice for the spheres than the Actress Jolt. You called him the best choice thus far, good sir; I heard you. Now you change your mind, why sir? Perhaps because someone had questioned the motives of those who would eagerly gift things to the Grape Farmer, things he had not earned and had no reason to call for?

Am I making you nervous, sir? I'm sorry. I don't want you to be upset. I just want you to die. (Autolycus)

Getting up nervously, the miller musters the courage to speak out.

All of you, stop wasting your time with that idea of an investigation! Everything was fine before strangers came in here! We were farming, and milling, and fishing in peace! And bartending! But Sonny is dead now, and that is no deed from a local... werewolves don't seem subtle to me, they would have eaten us long ago if they were among us! Midday 2 Update

A day and a half has passed since the first murder occured in this peaceful island. A day and a half since rain first started to fall on this island. A day and a half since the wind first started to gather. Some people have begun to notice the overbearing sense of unease that was draped across the island.

The discussions about whether or not to investigate the mayor's room was reaching a climax. Although most people seemed to abstain, most of the others who expressed their interest agreed to investigate the room. If the discussions continued in this trend, surely the village will investigate and probably waste another day.

Apologies my friends for my belated presence, spiritual matters have kept me out of these procedings until now. Evening Update 2

The butler lightly stepped over the pool of dried blood inside the mayor's room. "Well, Watchman, did you find anything interesting?"

"Hey, did you ever think we would be finding anything here? The dude EXPLODED for crying out loud. What clue did you think we would be able to find?"

The butler sighed. "Nothing then? There's no clue that would pinpoint who the murderer is?"

"No, there isn't any," the watchman said grumbling. "Another waste of our...hey, what's this?" The Watchman picked up an object from the floor and examined it. The butler and the watchman looked at each other. Was there anything like this in the room before?
...........................................................

"It's still raining?" the scholar moaned as he listened to the howling of the wind outside. "This is so....unnatural..."

"IT'S MINE!" the Mayor's daughter shrieked, snatching the spheres away from the scholar's hands.

The scholar looked at the other villagers as if looking for help. The other villagers shrugged. "Come on, dear, I will give it back to you as soon as I figure out what it..."

"NO! Go away!" the mayor's daughter screamed as she ran out the door. The mayor's wife soon followed, begging the daughter to come back. "And thar she goes," muttered the retired captain. "Well, I will be taking my beloved scimitar back." Almost nobody stood to stop him, although the beggar girl never quite stopped looking at the sword. At its masterful craftsmanship and magnificent jewels...

The retired captain stood awkwardly. "Do you mind?"

The beggar girl never gave a reply, for at that moment a 6 feet tall gorilla chose to enter the inn.

http://www.court-records.net/screenshot/TAT/GUMSHOOOOOOOE.png

"Arrrrrrrrgh," yelled out the grape farmer. "It's the werewolf, somebody kill it!"

"It's me, you headless chickens," responded the watchman. "I have discovered decisive evidence! Something to put an end to this entire fiasco!"

Everyone gasped. "Well," the blacksmith said. "What is it?"

"It's the Mayor's diary!" the watchman gumshoe said as he pulled out a bloodstained book from the bag. Everyone gasped once more.

"Uhh...pardon me for asking," the blacksmith asked. "But...ummm... what does it say?"

"Oh I couldn't read it. It's written in some other language than Lanun," the watchman responded. Somebody among the villagers facepalmed. "That's it, I had enough of this foolishness. I'm going home."

"Wait! It could be dangerous!"

"What, do you want me to take a bath here too? :daisy: that. :daisy: that idea like :daisy: tour de :daisy:. Bye."

The miller gets up, all excited.

Forse posso leggere il diario dil sindaco! Ho imparato un po di lingue straniere con Mario, il mio primo amore... Huh...I was caught in some teenage memories. I chanced into learning spare bits of foreign languages... If the mayor writes of love affairs in that journal, I certainly should get all the vocabulary! I'd like to take a look myself if people don't mind...

When you sneak out at night to gaze up at the stars, you can hear them laugh and tell each other stories. Cannot everyone?

Life takes its own course, and sometimes no reason nor argument nor urgent need can divert its speaking tide

The incidents are not the essence, and the blood is not the life, but the incidents of blood are symbol beneath every human thought.

Mathematic art may chart the course of a messenger, or an army, more precisely than a knotted string on a peg-nailed map. But simple string is an art which can be seen and felt. Thus does the general see and feel.

To win a battle is never a gain. It only means you may resume the burdens you bore before the war. You do not look forward to them

The dance of symbols is the movement of the people. Perhaps you have not studied them enough...but your own studies, the symbols of worlds within and above, press you so

Morning Update 3

The Grape farmer remake lowered himself to sleep. He was tired...espescially from that last night's escapede from that...whatevet it was... soon he felt the embrace of the dreamworld taking hold of him.

scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch....

Nothing would disturb him anymore...what was the chance of whatever it was coming back to kill him tonight?

scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch...

Stupid rats...he would have to take care of them tomorrow...

SCRATCH SCRATCH SCRATCH SCRATCH SCRATCH SCRATCH SCRATCH....

Okay, that's it. The Grape farmer jolted awake. He would kill every single rats in this tow....

a figure was sitting in his bed, scratching something into the wall with a wicked looking knife.

"Hi," the figure said. "Do you mind?"

"No, not at all," the grape farmer moaned. He looked at the picture that the figure was scratching into the wall. Circle...letters written inside the circles... he knew he was doomed. He would be sacrificed to whatever god that this little figure believed in.

"Well, the gods who'se names will never be spoken...has spoken your name. Do you know what that means?"

"Wait wait wait!" the grape farmer shouted desperately. "Can't we talk about this?"

"Sure," the figure responded. "Do you have a bar of chocolate?"

"Umm...no?" the grape farmer responded. Last thing he saw was a knife heading straight for his eyes.

That was not the last thing he felt, however, as he kept on feeling hundreds of little pricks with the knife and the shrieking fiend until the moment his soul drifted away..

"That's...rather vicious..." the watchman said as he looked at the body of the grape farmer. His body has been drained of all its blood which was used to repaint the entire room pink. The herbalist rushed in and rushed out, mumbling something about another appointment at the mayor's house.

The scholar walked into the room. "You called me, watchman?" he asked.

"Yes," the watchman answered. "What do you make of that esoteric diagram thingamabob?" He pointed at the circle etched into the walls. Parts of it was painted red using the grape farmer's blood.

The scholar squinted. "I...do believe that's actually a roulette." The watchman took another look at the diagram. The scholar was right, it was actually a roulette.

"What's it doing here?" the watchman demanded. 'Beats me," the scholar answered. "This is one crazy town..."

Grape Farmer was Innocent

.............................................................................

"Thank you," the mayor's wife Vince said. "You are too kind. I heard that you were my husband's friend?"

"That I was," the figure chuckled. It was an empty chuckle, devoid of almost any feelings.

The mayor's wife figured out that something was wrong at this point. "Well, thank you for visiting," she said coldly. "But I am afraid you will have to leave now..."

"I understand," the figure laughed. "But still, I must ask you one thing. Where is it?"

"Where is what?" the Mayor's wife demanded. The figure roared out in frustration and outstretched his palm towards the Mayor's wife. Intense pain...

............................................................................

The butler Spl1tpers0nality was taking a stroll outside when he heard IT approaching. It was not e ven bothering to hide its footsteps...and there was nothing you could do to stop it... for a werewolf was a weapon of the gods, forged from the depth of Chaos's pit itself to bring about widespread panic and destruction to the world.

The butler swore. He would not be killed so easily. He began to run. It was useless, the werewolf cannot be outrunned. The werewolf easily cut his escape route and growled viciously at the man.

"Come on, doggy," the butler shouted. "Come get me!"

When a group of villagers came by the mayor's house, they saw the mayor's daughter skipping around, humming a little tune to herself alone. Nobody else, not the butler nor the Mayor's wife answered any calls.

The butler was the first to be found. His body, like all the victims of the werewolf before him, was ravaged nearly beyond recognition. The body...or the remaining trace left of the mayor's wife, was discovered next. She had died much the same way as her husband had been. The living room of the mayor's house was coated with the bits and pieces of the Mayor's wife.

Mayor's wife. Vince, and the Butler, Spl1t, was INNOCENT!

Solemnly, the group searched both of their rooms for clues...for anything that might shed light on the mystery that was surrounding the island. Who were the killers? What was their purpose?

They found a bag containing something in the butler's room. It contained...the villagers immediately put the thing back into the bag the moment they took a look. What the hell was that thing? It was a Strange Idol of some sort. Why did the butler have it?

People gathered into the inn once more. No more games. From now on someone will die each day until all the assailants were taken care of.

From yesterday's investigation, the Mayor's diary still stood on top of the inn's counter. It would be put to vote alongside the Strange idol today.

Midday Update 3

Something was wrong.

Something was always wrong with this island, of course, but today was something different. Arguements were much more viscious. People struggled for control over mere trinkets, and the disease of insanity grew amongst the populace.

People, however, marched onward through uncertain future like pawns on a chessboard, destined to die in confusion and panic. What were they marching on for, they did not know. To victory? Perhaps it is so, but why did this battle begin in the first place?

The mayor's diary and the strange idol may shed some light to this, but if they had any insights upon the fiasco, they remained silent.

My dear scholar, your reference to a beach chair is accurate, although I resent the implications about my stability. I am a retired captain. I came here to get a little rest. The beggar girl has been harassing me for almost a day now. She pointed out that the wheat farmer had expressed opinions about the items, which showed a commendable improvement. I therefore decided to acknowledge that and give him some time to take a position on matters of life and death, before I lay down to my afternoon nap. I wake up, and she's shrieking about my easing up on the wheat farmer. And I discover that you agree with her. I'm disappointed in you. A man of your education should know better.

OOC;

Seon, you missed my vote, in the tally, for who gets the diary.

Renata, I think the Frozen in Ice the Scholar would also be a good choice for the diary, but I don't want everything to go to only one person (and he got something last phase) in this game as of yet. We really don't know who is mafia yet, and who is town. So I would like the spread the wealth (items) around as much as possible, until we do.
My vote choice, was just a guess since I don't know who the mafia are yet, and he is more inactive then others are. So 2 birds with 1 stone, get him out of hiding,or, if he is mafia great, if not at least my vote will not kill an active townie. I'm prob. wrong about him, but it is early yet.

Having spent several days sleeping off the worst hangover of his life, the Traveller finally recovered sufficiently to deliver his slurred verdict on recent events.

Why in the nine hells did I come to this horrible island? Seriously, if anyone knows, it'd be nice to find out. I have vague recollections of a tavern in Innsmouth, but after that it's all a blur...

And what's with all these weird murders, eh? Like that roulette thing. Creepy. It wouldn't surprise me if at least one of the Balseraph entertainers - the Dancer, the Guitarist, the Flutist, the Actress - is amongst those working against the town, so any of them might be a suspect. The Balseraphs do love their games of chance, after all.

Hmm... But the evidence points to a 'small figure' being responsible. And the whole roulette things seems a bit childish as well... You've been travelling with the Balseraphs haven't you, Renata?
