Since CB's game is about to start and I'm up next, not wanting to delay anything, I'll start taking signups now and if you have any feedback, feel free to give it, especially about the voting deadline. Any questions? Feel free to ask!

“Twenty-three bottles of beer on the wall, twenty-three bottles of beer, if one of those bottles should happen to fall; twenty-two bottles of beer on the wall” It had been going on for hours now and if he didn’t have to concentrate on the road, Jeff, the bus driver, would have buried his head between his hands long ago, trying to find shelter from this bunch of doters who were going to make his life miserable for the next few days. No, Jeff wasn’t sure he was happy with the assignment of taking this group up to Sesame Peak and taking care of them for a time of skiing and a Christmas celebration in the mountains. They had won this trip in a lottery held at a convention for elderly men and now they were on their way to the holiday of their lives.
What they weren’t aware of, was that some among this merry group did not exactly embark on this trip by coincidence. For some the coming week would be important, as they had their own agenda and they really didn’t need any witnesses.
But for now they were merrily singing, none of them expecting the evil that had infiltrated the group and none of them showing any sign of being part of anything other than a group of old men having fun annoying a bus driver. They were a group of various backgrounds, former professions and dwelling places from all across the country and some of them would surely have their little oddities and quirks but that was to be expected among older men.
https://img59.imageshack.us/img59/5761/winterviewphoto.jpg
They were still singing when the bus finally pulled up to the beautiful retreat center, hidden in the woods, built like a small chalet. It would be their home for the next few days and these days would become the most interesting days they ever had; for some they would surely be the last days.

Yeah, I saw your game TLD, but the deadline at 5 PM EST is problematic. I'm back from work around that time, three to four days a week, so I'm forced to make decisions when I wake up - if I did not snooze the clock too often . I can't play mafia like this, Sigurd's game was bad enough.
TheLastDays
07-27-2011, 00:00
Yeah, I figured it could be problematic for some. I might be able to push it to 6 PM which should be midnight CET. Going further would mean that I need to do writeups late night and it would be more dofficult for european players to make decisive votes.
That said I'm very much open to suggestions towards the deadline issue.
I guess that I could live with a deadline at 6 PM EST, but if you're worried about the low signup count so far, I say don't worry - people should signup later, when it will be closer to starting.
TheLastDays

I'm not worried at all so far, I'm just trying to figure out what the best option for the deadline would be
I live in USA and don't think the deadline should be an issue. We'll just have to do our voting early in the Day phase.

johnhughthom
08-01-2011, 10:02
Rounds are likely to be 24/24, the org standard, we begin when the current Vespasian game ends.
I see. How is the night talk handled? QuickTopics? PMs? And I suppose we aren't allowed to send game-related PMs to each other and so during the game?
johnhughthom
08-01-2011, 10:37
There are rarely any restrictions on talking at night on the org, sending pms is okay unless specified otherwise in the rules or role.
TheLastDays
08-01-2011, 10:38
I'll post the rules again before the start but you are allowed to send PMs to each other as much as you want.
I'll set up a QuickTopic for the Mafia for convenience and for my own entertainment value :D
I'm also not going to limit discussion in the thread during the night.
Dead players cannot communicate about the game in private and they cannot share information they have obtained prior to their death. They can still talk about the game in thread about things that are already public knowledge.
The game might start today or tomorrow, waiting for confirmation from the Mods. The way I understand the hosting queue we can have the game running one week after the last small game started and I think ATPG did confirm this but I'm waiting for confirmation from Mod side right now. Roles are already randomised and the first post is written so as soon as I get the green light I can get this started

A Country for Old Men
With a loud 'pfffft' the doors of the bus opened as if even the vehicle itself was sighing of relief that this journey was over. Quickly the elderly party spilled out into the front yard of their retreat center and they all took in the fresh mountain air, stretching after the long bus ride.
"So here we are", Jeff, the driver, left the bus last and walked through the snow up to the front porch of what seemed to be the main building. He looked around the door for a few moments and then turned towards the group, puzzled. "No bell"
Just then a balcony door above him opened and and a strange fellow walked out onto the balcony, smiling, extending his arms wide.
https://img193.imageshack.us/img193/8167/4222985834.jpg
"Welcome to you all! We have been eagerly expecting you, me and my butler Alex." He looked down and saw that they were getting quite uncomfortable in the cold and the door was still closed. Raising an eyebrow the old fellow turned around and called into the house. "Alex? Alex! Let the men in, will you?"
A few moments later the door downstairs was opened and revealed the butler/janitor of this facility.
https://img69.imageshack.us/img69/9378/chigurh.jpg
A murmur was going through the crowd, some of them openly pointing at the man, whispering among each other.
"Isn't this...?"
"Yes, that's the guy who brought me Pizza for years. Then suddenly he didn't deliver anymore."
"I heard he had been promoted to management but the job made him go mad shortly after and he had to run away."
"Surely you can't be serious that they have hired an escaped madman up here?"
"Silence, please", the old fellow on the balcony called out to them, "just for one moment. Let me introduce us. I am Thaddeus Ladislaus DeLaney and this is my butler, Alex Taylor Paul Grearson. He is also keeping this cosy little place up and running for me so please follow his instructions as to not break anything, yes?" A mild chuckle and the guy turned before shouting: "So come on in!"
A few minutes later they were all in the entrance hall, Alex, the butler, having been gone outside to park the bus as Thaddeus came down the stairs. "So, are we all here?"
Everyone nodded, only Jeff, the bus driver suddenly called out. "No wait, I counted, we're missing one. Where's that guy who sat all the way in the back of the bus?" No one knew and what was worse, no one seemed to remember his name.
They were still talking about that when the door flew open and Alex walked in, carrying the body of an old man, two drumsticks protruding from his chest, clearly he was dead. "Are you missing someone?" The butler didn't seem like he was shocked at all while all the guests were staring at him with open mouths until DeLaney clapped his hands to get the attention.
"Oh that is most unfortunate. A very rude act to choose the journey to my little home up here as his last journey. I am pretty certain that this man has committed suicide and..."
"Are you crazy?", one of the men called out, "he rammed two drumsticks into his own chest?"
Delaney shrugged and nodded.
"And what is this?" the men reached for a piece of paper that was attached to one of the sticks. Some sort of poem seemed to be written on it.
This old man, he played one
He played knick knack on my drum
With a knick knack paddywhack
Give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home
Everyone instantly rememberd the melody from their childhod:
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/CnG_FtaYkAg?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/CnG_FtaYkAg?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="25"></object>
"Shush", DeLaney broke the ensuing silence. "As far as I am concerned this man has committed suicide but it is not our concern, is it? We will still make this the greatest holiday of your lives. Alex will call the authorities and they will pick up the body tomorrow so don't worry, it will all be investigated."
Interestingly enough some guests seemed to agree and so they went on doing their business, getting to their rooms, unpacking their stuff and getting ready to go to bed. It had been a long journey and after the shock they all just wanted to put this day past them.
It is now NIGHT 1!
Orders are due tomorrow, Tuesday, 11 P.M. CET / 5 P.M. US Eastern so you have about 25 hours.

Right at sunset one of the old men reached for his guitar case and unpacked his trusty six string to play one of his favourite songs:
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/H7vaYOIKWYY?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/H7vaYOIKWYY?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="25"></object>
It was a busy night for one of the guests at Sesame Peak Winter Resort. He had just finished talking to one of the other guests for a while, having carefully analyzed him when he was approached by another strange fellow.
"Heya", the strange fellow said and stopped our friend in his tracks.
"Good evening,", our busy old man replied, raising an eyebrow, "can I help you?"
"I didn't get your name."
Another raised eyebrow later our friend assumend that it would be no harm to tell him. "Name's Milton. What's yours?"
Strange fellow just nodded, gave our friend a healthy pat on the shoulder and continued on towards his room. Milton shook his head and was sure he had to check on this guy some time soon before something bad happened. Shrugging he decided to get a little fresh air before hitting the sheets and so he made his way to the nearby balcony to enjoy the fantastic view down into the valley for a few minutes. Milton had just settled out there when he suddenly felt a sting in his neck. His vision blurring he turned his head, much slower than he had planned. He couldn't really make out his attacker as his head started spinning and he barely managed to ask: "What was that?", before slumping down to the ground.
"A strong narcotic", the figure replied before foing to work.
The next morning a few guests discovered Milton on that balcony, hanging from a wooden bar, tied up there by his shoelaces. They discovered another piece of paper inside one of his empty shoes which were carefully arranged beneath him.
This old man, he played two
He played knick knack on my shoe
With a knick knack paddywhack
Give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home
Quickly all the guests gathered in the dining hall and only a few minutes later DeLaney and his butler Alex appeared as well.
"So was this another one of your suicides?", one of the men cried out at the owner of the hotel.
"It is unlikely, I would say", DeLaney replied, "no in fact it seems like our dear", he took a look at the ID they had found on the body, "Milton johnhughthom was murdered. So what are we going to do about this? There is obviously someone among my guests who doesn't want to have a few quiet days in the mountains. We will go about this in the only civilised manner that's available to us: Public Vote. So, all of you decide who among you is not what he professes to be. Vote and determine who killed these poor men. Alex will handle all the... more inconvenient matters."
With that DeLaney left the dining hall and the butler stepped up in front of the guests, a strangely satisfied grin on his face.

I am not a detective. I do, however, know that DCMort is nuetral, or in my words "not a townie."
I do not know his role. Nuetrals are quite often killers. Neutrals are a threat to the town because they have their own agenda. A nuetral won Mafia Revenging not 25% into the game.
I recommend lynching DC. I do not know if or how his alignment will be proven upon lynch. Feel free to disagree and lynch someone else, but per my last couple of games, I have a strong disliking towards neutrals and I want them dead.

Convenient that people are listing out secondary suspects when they have nothing to go on. I gave my evidence, now you give yours.
FYI scums are gonna support the lynch of DCMort as well, and then they are gonna support the lynch of those who initiated it because they fear scanner abilities. They may be setting the stage now. Too bad I'm not a detective.

Alright, here's the deal as we find ourselves in a bit of a connundrum.
My scan info on DCMort93 came from WarMan. I need to say this now in case he does not show up to defend himself. I don't know if he is the scanner or if he had a source, but he made it sound like eliminating neutrals was something he had to do in terms of victory, and that he can only prove/disprove if a person is nuetral. So either he or his source may have a limited detective role. He made it sound like it was HIS ability, but he may also be saying that to get protection from townies. With him you never know what he is thinking
The chances that it was a random guess are pretty low
Sorry for outing you, WarMan, but I am trying to save you in case you are a full blown detective. Some one may consider protecting him tonight. I wish this all came to light earlier in the round

While the day was drawing to an end some of the men were not quite ready to discuss a lynch yet.
"Wait. Mr. Grearson, why don't we just all get into that freakin' bus and make for the village down in the valley and where are the cops? Didn't your boss say you'd call them?"
The janitor raised an eyebrow and shrugged: "Well, what I forgot to tell you is, someone both cut our phone wires and sabotaged the bus last night."
"So, why didn't you call the authorites right away when you discovered the body yesterday?"
"I forgot"
"YOU FORGOT? There's a :daisy: killer on the loose and you forgot to call the police? What kind of a :daisy: are you?"
Grearson just shrugged again, rolling his eyes before he explained with a facial expression as if talking to a kid who wouldn't understand the most simple concepts: "Now, first of all, yesterday we all came to the consensus that the guy in the bus committed suicide, didn't we?" They stared at him, dumbfounded. "Also, my favourite show was on and, you know, I'm not the youngest anymore."
"Anyway", Alex shook his head as if to shake off the matter, "we have business to attend to. Who has to die today?"
The discussion had been raging all day and, especially in the end, it was going every which way and up until the final minutes before sunset it wasn't clear who would be lynched but in the end a small minority shifted towards one of the old guests. Grearson looked at the small sheet of paper that had been handed to him and called out: "Mr. Phil classical_hero, could you please step forward?"
A small guy stepped up out of the line of elderly man. He looked at the janitor and then back at the crowd before laughing. "You guys are all crazy. I'm not going down to a crazy mob like you. You don't have the force of law." He pulled a pistol and spun around, aiming it at Grearson and with a loud *BANG* the whole crowd ducked and looked surprised as classical_hero held on to his chest, blood spilling between his fingers while he slowly fell to his knees and then slumped to the ground.
Smoking colt in his right hand and a smirk on his face Alex shook his head: "Not on my soil, punk." He walked over to the body and to the despair of the just yet recovering crowd he retreived what looked like a police officer's badge from his jacket. Eyebrows raised he murmured: "Well, not sure we got the right guy here", and adding, somewhat louder, "Anyway, let's hope for the best, yes? Good night, everyone.", he grabbed one of classical_hero's legs and pulled the body away.

Obviously not, but I would have suggested splitting them up so that the decision wasn't so decisive and irreversible. But looking back over the tally, I see that mort and WARMAN had the 2nd & 3rd highest tallies, so splitting votes between two other players might not have worked out either. Again the musician sat down and soon his voice and music was heard throughout the chalet:
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/TVwkS6AcszY?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/TVwkS6AcszY?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="25"></object>
Three of the men were sitting in one of the lounge areas, playing a card game, "Fives and Threes", and obviously one of them was winning all the time as his laughter only got louder while the others cursed him for his incredibly good luck.
"Impossible!", one of the men cried out when Mr. Johhog revealed his latest hand and laughed out again. For a while it really seemed like the three of them were able to forget the situation they were in and they looked just like a bunch of old friends enjoying an evening together.
It wasn't long though before one of them felt his nerves tingle at something he saw out of the corner of his eye.
"There look!", he cried out and even though it was a little dark in the room, not easy to make out who was who, they all could clearly see the dark figure, hiding where he was pointing, near the other exit of the room. Quickly the figure lifted up a silenced pistol and aimed straight at the lucky Mr. Johhog. A suppressed shot was heard and Johhog closed his eyes, bracing for the impact and moments later he hit the ground, a small hole in his forehead, a pool of blood forming around his head. The other two immediately rushed over to the exit but the killer was gone and they only found a little piece of paper where he was standing:
This old man, he played three
He played knick knack victoriously
With a knick knack paddywhack
Give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home
In the morning they were all called to the dining hall again, visited by a clearly disturbed Thomas Ladislaus DeLaney and a jovial as ever Alex Taylor Paul Grearson. DeLaney looked at a sheet of paper he had held on to for so long it was crumpled between his fingers and then spoke up: "Alright. It seems like our poor Elroy Johhog has passed away yesterday while playing an innocent game of cards. Let us not allow this death to be in vain. Find the murderers!"
https://img263.imageshack.us/img263/9252/elroydoctor.jpg
Johhog was Elroy, the Doctor. His alignment was town.

I'm sorry you died so soon and I hope you will come back and play with us again.
However, you post is throwing me into a loop about MRD. You would likely be pointing towards him, or simply not towards another candidate, if you had revealed to him last night. This makes me think you in fact did not reveal to him, and as such I will unvote

Doc never contacted me.
What is likely is that someone either knew who he was through scans or PM claims. Or it was a really dumb vigilante.
I know of one role blocker and one bodyguard.
If anyone has picked up a scan that indicates someone is a musician please let me know or make it public
All three murders have been completely different. I think the drumsticks and narcotics could be the same guy, but the silenced pistol reeks of another killer and possibly a vigilante

Your attempt to get players to reveal to you here is troubling to me. Exactly what qualifies you to be at the center of this little network you're setting up?
Tratorix, I understand your concern about town networks (I was a periphery part of the recent Midgardsaga III network that accomplished nothing), but I really don't see how anyone could think MRD is scum right now. MRD's been the most useful player in the game so far. He's publicly defended one pro-town role and one neutral who at least seems to be supporting us. And he did so when they were both facing lynch possibility. If he's scum, then he's either doing a terrible job of allowing his biggest threats to get lynched, or he's building a fantastic cover for himself.
Having said that, I don't have any good suspects to suggest. I'm inclined to get rid of lurkers, since they don't really contribute much to the game regardless of which side they're on, but I'm not keeping tabs on posting frequencies.

I recieved a PM from a busdriver.
I was the target of the assasination last night. I was bus drived with Johhog. He blessed off on me revealing this information.
While the act is appreciated, I had protection and will likely continue to have protection, and it got our Doc killed :P. I am not, however, going to reveal who the BD is.
I strongly suggest for lynch candidates people look at others who are very quick to point fingers. It can only be attributed to inexperience so much before it become suspect. And as much as I hate to say this, the first person to suggest Classical Hero is my top suspect. It may have been completely random, I understand that, but someone has to bleed. So unless we can kill a lurker, we need a plan.
That'd probably be me. But I didn't vote for him. I just said I would like him lynched instead of you if DCmort would be lynched. But lynch away.

Newsflash, guy, I'm not giving orders. I'm making suggestions. I'm taking charge because I got information early in the game that turned out to be factual, and I am following up on it.
And until the likes of you does something useful for the rest of the town how about you stuff it. If your best response is to lynch me then you have serious priority issues.
I have only had 4 reveal to me. 2 are confirmed by alignment, the other two tells me stories that fits the picture very well. DCmort is confirmed townie, Warman is confirmed Townie, and the third guy is a busdriver. 2 of the aforementioned people have either roleblock or bodyguard abilites.
I am a little worried about potential cover roles.

The problem with "waiting for someone to show up and explain it" is that it didn't work out so well last time.
I'm not necessarily gunning for DE, but I'm curious what could possibly happen that would be so bad.
Major Robert Dump
08-05-2011, 08:00
DCMort told everyone he was nuetral after I made public a nuetral-confirming scan.
I'm not offended. But by being proactive I have made myself a target with night actions, and I do not fancy having to defend myself on day shift as well. The "busdriver" could be lying to cover his murders, but according to him he protected me last night so the bullet Johhog caught was meant for me.
edit** The reason I asked for the Doctor to contact me was so I could set him up with protection. While such a move might be a scum tactic to ID a potential target, a scum doing it so early in the game and in public would be quite frankly ludicrous.
Tratorix
08-05-2011, 08:07
I'm not saying you're necessarily scum, though both those arguments don't actually prove you're not. I'm just always wary of networks like this popping up, especially in a game where the mafia has a cover role. Honestly for the moment I'm more interested in hearing what Diamondeye has to say, though I'd ask that we not bandwagon him too hard, in case it really will put us at a disadvantage.
Just curious guys, is there any precedent for the mafia having a detective-type power? It seems awfully rude of the mafia to off the newcomer so early unless they knew he was the doctor, or at least had some power role.
Major Robert Dump
08-05-2011, 08:54
The mafia didn't off the doctor on purpose, they tried to off me and they got busdriven. This could all me an elaborate lie by the alleged bus driver
There is a possibility that a scan ability enabled them to detect the Cop, and then offer him up for lynch in exchange for Warman, but I doubt that as well because the whole reason we saved Warman was because of his alleged ability to detect nuetrals.
I dislike early networks as well, but as it stands I was pulled into this one when I chose to make DCMorts scan public knowledge. It ssnow balled from.
Alright, sorry to be thick, but what's a bus driver? Does he swap around two players or something?

I am currently awaiting clarification from the host regarding the mechanics of bus drivers. This clarification I hope will let me know if this persons claims of bus driving me were legitimate or not. There is a possibility, based on a previous post by JOHHOG, that scum called his doctor bluff and targeted him directly. As a bonus, they could frame me as well. I will explain after the host responds.
TheLastDays
08-05-2011, 11:03
Just a heads up, please don't ask me about the specifics of the game as it would be unfair to reveal them to one of you. So I'll state publicly what I told MRD:
When a bus driver targets two players usually ALL night actions targetting these two will get swapped.
Major Robert Dump
08-05-2011, 11:19
Then we have a dilemma.
I was protected last night by someone with a bodyguard ability. This player tells me that he will die in the process of protecting.
Another player tells me he busdrove me. If I were attacked and protected, then that means that Johhug would have been attacked and protected, and my bodyguard would have died instead of Johhug. A further complication is that said bodyguard tells me a secondary objective for him is to protect a doctor or a cop.
Option 1: I was not protected by the bodyguard and the busdrive happened
Option 2: I was protected and did not get attacked, there was no bus drive and Johhug was targeted directly
Option 3: I was protected and the bodyguard was roleblocked, and the bus drive happened.
If anyone else an think of why a one-shot bodyguard would still be alive in a situation like this please advise
Major Robert Dump
08-05-2011, 11:27
Ouch. The thing here is that there is unlikely to be a doc if we have a cop.
This was Johhugs response to my announcement that Warman had some sort of investigative ability.
At the time, it didn't make any sense, and it still doesn't. It does, however, reek of a bad bluff and could have gotten the attention of the mafia, who then targeted him directly. He may have also sent out PMs to people he thought he could trust.
I also just thought of an option 4: I was protected and the busdrive happened, but a second killer targeted Johhug and the results is what the host rolled in terms of actions overriding and taking priority, which resulted in the bodyguard never having to use his skill.
robbiecon
08-05-2011, 11:30
Vote: Tratorix, I think he is too much against the town network, he seems to be frustrated by it. Perhaps he's worried that everyone will have told their secrets to MRD, and then he'll be pointed out as the one who hasn't.
Also, if Warman has some investigative ability, we need him to vote badly. We can't afford to lose him to the WOG.
robbiecon
08-05-2011, 11:35
Also, I read over the write-up. There were 3 people playing cards when Johhog was shot. Perhaps these three people are meant to be Johhog (obviously), MRD, and perhaps the bus driver. In which case, from the write-up, there's no indication that the bus driver did anything. Or the killer merely targeted johhog directly.
Major Robert Dump
08-05-2011, 11:42
Yeah I was thinking the 3 people present in a dark room could be a hint at mistaken identity or wrong target as a result of a bus drive, but usually a write up with a bus drive is a little more obvious and with a little more action. I'm inclined to OUT the alleged busdriver, but if he turns out to be innocent I will feel like a total douche.
I would really like to know who DCMort roleblocked last night.

Hey, if I should try to explain this it was indeed a bluff, but I didn't think it would be a bad bluff. On MS we've gone to the conclusion that doc/cop is a broken pair and should be avoided, cop/jailkeeper is better. As for your alternatives Nr. 2 is most likely imo.
