“Go forth and conquer the holy city, they said. Riches and eternal glory will be yours, they said,” I muttered to myself as I continued my pace down this gleaming hall. My advisors' gluttony for loot may have finally gotten the better of me. Sure, here I was, a successful conqueror, a newly crowned emperor, acclaimed the new divine prophet of the gods. But that didn’t do me a lot of good down in this maze. The high priest had claimed the location of an ancient vault, which held all of the divine relics the gods had once cherished. He failed to mention the labyrinth… I should have executed the man, but he seemed as surprised as I at the underground maze. He said the vault hadn’t been touched since antiquity. Now, wandering lost with my entourage and supply caravan, I knew why. Supposedly, it was simply a case that the door had been sealed shut for ages, only now mysteriously opened. I’d had doubts, until we discovered the door had sealed itself behind us. Now, we had no choice but to move forward, brothers in venture, hoping to discover an alternate exit.

To its credit, the labyrinth was pristine. The walls, floor, and vaulted ceilings were made of the purest marble I’d seen. There had been multiple occasions where we’d found what may have been ancient temples, held aloft by mighty pillars. It was almost as though a small city had been buried away down here, every house a mansion, every shop its own market. There were indeed a number of beautiful artifacts which we grabbed on our way, golden idols and gem-encrusted goblets. It was remarkable that this labyrinth contained such a massive amount of room. There’d been no sign of it from the outside. With a sigh, I signaled to the entourage behind me. We’d been marching nonstop since discovering our plight, and many were exhausted. This particular cavernous chamber seemed to hold a number of exits. We could stop here for now. I had no idea what time it was, but we needed a break. I ordered the torches extinguished, and, along with a couple of my bodyguard, slouched with my back to the cold wall. Just a short break…

I was jerked awake by the sound of screams, yelling, and general panic. People were milling about, pointing fingers at each other, yelling in accusatory tones. Gah… I guess it’s time to assert my authority again…

“SHUT UP!” I bellowed. Everyone instinctively snapped their mouths shut and turned to me. Oh yes… definitely perks to being emperor. “Now, what’s going on? Why’s everyone flipped a nut?”

“He killed Javea and Falis while we slept!” The elderly quartermaster pointed at a servant.

“Nonsense, old man. It was obviously the general! Probably with that knife he always carries!” a second man whose identity eluded me.

“No, it was the priest!” claimed a third, equally anonymous person. “With the torch, in the temple hall! Kill him!”

I put a hand to my forehead and sighed. “We don’t really have time for thi-“

“WE DEMAND JUSTICE. BLOOD FOR BLOOD!” The crowd bellowed. So perhaps there was a limit to imperial authority after all. Perhaps it would be better to appease the bloodthirsty idiots so we can move on.

“Very well. Just decide amongst yourselves who did it, so we can move on. We still need to escape, after all.” No sooner had I finished than the crowd immediately descended into chaos.

Hello everyone, and welcome to my newest iteration of mafia! For the curious, I'm trying something relatively different from my usual modus operandi.

Setup:

Every player in the game will be set up with a partner. This means this game can only begin with an even number of players. I'm looking, ideally, for around 30-32 players, but I can tweak for up to 40, or down to about 24. Each pair will be able to partner up with another pair to perform night actions. A group of four, operating in sync, will have a 100% success rate performing doctor or vigilante actions. A group of two or three will have a 1/3, or 33.3% chance to have such a successful action. Most roles will, by default, have a zero % success rate for such actions. The mafia may be infiltrated into these starting groups, or may be in their own groups. After a certain number of phases, depending on the casualty rates, I will allow for a "public auction" of sorts to re-partner up for those who lost their partners. A player will declare an intention to partner with someone else. If no issues are raised, they will become partners. However, if multiple intentions are made to the same partner, and the partner does not issue a vote of preference, then other players may vote for a preferred pairing to act as tiebreaker. Ultimate tiebreaker will be random.org if none of the above sufficiently break the tie.

There will be multiple independent roles, four mafia, and at least two pro-town roles with powers above that of the usual townsperson.

Rules:

NO QUOTING HOST'S PMS, NO QUOTING CHATLOGS, NO SCREENSHOTS, NO ALTERNATE ACCOUNTS, AND NO TRANSLATING PM'S-You may claim whatever you want, including role name, so long as you don't quote my PM's word for word, or very close to word for word. You may quote a pm from other players.
The dead cannot reveal anything, including previous night actions, but they may participate as much as they want to contribute to general discussion. The dead also may not communicate outside the thread in any way, shape, or form relating to this game, be it via PM, chat, quicktopic, or other.

I do not allow Vote: No Lynch as an option. Period. You may abstain, however.

If you wish to take back a vote, you CANNOT do it by editing a previous post. I will not count it. Period. You must unvote:Askthepizzaguy in order to recant the previous vote. In order to vote for someone, you must do so in the usual Vote:issaikhaan style. Votes must be bolded, for reference.

WOKs(Wrath of Khaan) will occur if a person does not vote 3 rounds in a row, or if they do not vote in 4 rounds in total. Please, please don't make me do so. It won't be a pretty death.

Suicides will only be allowed in the event of a person being very much unable to participate in the game. I do not allow suicides for any other reason.

No links to anything outside of this thread. Period. I don't care if it pertains to something completely irrelevant.

It would be very helpful for the sake of my sanity if player's kept a tally running.

Please don't mess with the tally! I know sometimes errors happen, but if I determine that anyone deliberately misrepresents the tally for benefit, they will be wok'd.

Voting periods will be 24 hours, though it will likely end up being 36 on a number of occasions depending on scheduling issues.

Any ties in voting will await someone to break it. First vote to either person who is tied will result in lynch, regardless of any posts after it.

The game won't start for a bit, due to there being two games currently running. However, signups are beginining now! Once one of them wraps up, we'll have the green light to go. Any questions, feel free to ask! Welcome aboard, and have fun!

Turn around,
every now and then I wanna play a little mafia and you're never coming around
Turn around,
Every now and then I get a little bit tired of listening to me talk to myself
Turn around,
Every now and then I get a little bit nervous that I'll never get accused or voted again
Turn around,
Every now and then I get a little bit lonely, and then I see the whites of your eyes

Turn around White_Eyes:D,
Every now and then I fall apart
Turn around White_Eyes:D,
Every now and then I fall apart

When I'm killing town tonight
I'll need you dead more than ever
And just like your eyes are pearly white
Your vote will be on me forever
And I'll only be making it right
'cause you'll never be wrong.... if I'm scum
Together we can't make it to the end of a game
Your vote is like a shadow on me all of the time
I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark
We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
I'll really kill you tonight
Killing's gonna start tonight
Your death's gonna start tonight
Once upon a time I was being a scum
But now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do
A total persist of the vote
Once upon a time I was doom in the night
But now I'm only scum in the noose
Nothing I can say
A total persist of the vote

Turn around,
Every now and then I get a nice little scum role, and here you're voting for me again ~:mecry:
Turn around,
Every now and then I get a little bit nervous, and then I'm lying like a scum in your sights :scared:
Turn around,
Every now and then I get a little bit angry because you're voting for me again and again :furious:
Turn around,
Every now and then I get a little bit terrified when I see the whites of your eyes :shocked2:

Turn around White_Eyes:D,
Every now and then I really am scum!
Turn around White_Eyes:D,
But every single game you want me dead!

When I'm killing town tonight
I'll need you dead more than ever
And just like your eyes are pearly white
Your vote will be on me forever
And I'll only be making it right
'cause you'll never be wrong.... if I'm scum

If we are paired up....it's going to be some cruel twist of fate.:sweatdrop:

The last time we were specifically paired up, you were my mason partner, and went paranoid suspecting me of being evil.... right up until the point where I was actually evil, and then you promptly trusted me again.

I then went on to claim to be evil, and get the town to think I was claiming evil so that they wouldn't lynch you, and they did lynch you, and then I killed off the rest of the town.

That, was a cruel twist. But it wasn't fate, so much as Pizza.

Really, to a degree, I was actually somewhat excited for this. I’d never actually had human blood at my hands. Oh, sure, I had martial training with wooden swords in controlled environments. I had become commander of a glorious army, bravely sending forth endless waves of my own men to defeat another man’s endless waves of men. But I’d not actually ever had to use what I assume was a lovingly crafted long sword. When I told the retinue and followers to sort the whole issue out, however, I had no idea the chaos that would ensue. One accusation quite literally led to another. First, someone would accuse a royal guardsmen, only to be accused by someone else for accusing the guard. Then, said accuser would be accused of hiding their murder with their own accusation. Finally, I had to yell at them all and I turned to my poor scribe, who looked to be ready to have a nervous collapse. With a shaking hand, he offered me his record of the accusations.

It seemed that the previously loyal NinjaCow was the killer! Outrageous! How dare he? The entire four people certain of his guilt proudly shoved him down in front of me and knelt him down by force. Whew. Thank the gods that I have such a competent retinue that we could have this all sorted out so fast. I raised my sword high, not offering the obvious traitor the dignity of a last word. Unfortunately, it seems my sword skill was a bit rusty. I didn’t quite get the beheading right, and my sword got stuck on his spine. Eww. With some effort, I yanked the sword back out, and after another good couple of hacks, I managed to get the head completely off. Oh well. Since he was obviously the one at fault, it probably doesn’t matter too much. Besides, the screams of agony don’t necessarily mean it was suffering I caused. No, certainly not, I am a divine emperor now! I don’t cause suffering. Definitely.

“Well done, my faithful followers!” I commended them. “Now, let us spread out once more! We need to find out where an exit is. As always, we’re still going to follow a buddy system, so try to keep them at hand so you don’t get lost. We’ll meet back here in a few hours. Good luck!”

The Emperor really does look to have screwed this one up, I thought as I walked with Salat down another narrow corridor. Here we all are, running around like chickens without their heads, and getting butchered off one by one, all while trying, likely In vain, to find some escape. I sighed. “Salat, are you sure about this?” I asked, turning to him. What? Salat? Impossible, he was just here! That idiot, running off, he’ll get himself killed! “Salat, not amusing!” I yelled out. There was no response but my echo. I wouldn’t be so irritated about him being taken down, but him ditching leaves me in a precarious position too. With a huff, I kept going down the path, hoping this was just an idiotic prank. I found my way at an intersection, one path going left, one right, one straight ahead. I was pondering which way when I heard a buzzing. It was growing louder. From… behind? I whipped around, and was shocked that a swarm of bees in front of me. Impossible, we were underground! I felt a sharp prick upon my face as if to answer that as the swarm closed in. Oh gods, why bees. I hate bees… “NOT THE BEES!” I screamed at the top of my lungs and sprinted into what I hoped would be a safe haven down one of the halls.

Crouching, I paused behind a marble pillar. My partner in crime was waiting in the far corner, hidden by an altar. This blasphemer dared to visit such a holy site! I can’t have been surprised, I guess. This lot were desecrating the god’s sacred grounds already. We knew we had to make this quick, get in and out. Even if they were just the court’s royal poet, they would be armed and trained. No, we would wait for him to separate just a bit from his partner. There! He paused, letting the other go farther ahead, while he examined a sculpture of Hadan, God of War. Fitting, really. My partner raised his hand, giving the signal. I pulled a knife from my belt and curled around the pillar. With well-practiced aim, I let it fly, and it struck his knee, sending him buckling down. In a flash, my partner was behind the blasphemer, Atheotes, holding him in a knelt position. A quick flash of silver and the sound of freshly cut flesh was all the indication I needed that he’d slit his throat. We heard the drawing of a sword from sheath from Atheotes’ partner, who had noticed our escapades, and we bolted out of the temple before any unnecessary risk could be incurred.

"I-s-h-A-m-a-e-l"

"Huh?"

"I-s-h-A-m-a-e-l"

"Wha...?"

"I-s-h-A-m-a-e-l"

Okay, this was getting irritating. Just trying to squeeze in a short nap, and now these jerks show up…

"Didn't they teach you how to write, you idiot!!!!!" I recoiled from my spot on the floor the group suddenly started kicking me in the stomach.

"What the hells?!” I bleated out. “I can’t just get a good nap in?”

More kicks.

With a grunt, I started hauling myself up to try and actually defend myself. Only to be met with a fist wearing a metal glove straight to my teeth.
I was vaguely aware of being lifted up and being planted into a chair. Finally gathering my senses back, I saw a shadowy figure in front of me with a black board to their side.

"Today, we'll learn about the spelling of the word Nae'blis".

What in the gods names was going on here?

"Ok, who will tell me how you spell Nae'blis," the "teacher" asked.

"Aha, you there, my dear student, tell me. How do you spell Nae'blis?"

"What? What is this?"

Something heavy smashed against my back, followed by a punch to the crown of my head.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. A bit more focus here, please. How do you spell Nae'blis?"

"Well..." Another punch. "Aw!" And again.

"It is spelled N-a-e..."

"WRONG! YOU IDIOT! What is it with the education system of this place? Don't they teach kids anything anymore these days? In my days, you had to crawl uphill in the snow, to a school without central heating, walls or a roof. In fact, our school didn't exist, it was just a spot marked by an "X" on an incredibly difficult to read map. Once you found that spot (and about 75 % of us died while trying to find it), you saw a big giant man standing there, wearing a black cloak and holding a giant axe. This man then rapidly started to read all 75,000,851 pages of a work called to "Introduction to basic knowledge of history, math and useless facts." Once he finished reading, there was immediately an examination. 578 questions which you had to answer in 30 seconds. One mistake meant sudden death. And this man was good with that axe. Only myself and the Nae'blis passed the exam. Those were the days! Only intelligent people and none of them unemployed! We all worked 100 jobs. We had no choice, since everybody else died because not passing the exam. Anyway, after the exam, we had to crawl back home, uphill again, 1,875,368 miles in the snow."

The teacher paused and took a deep breath.

"And compare that to the present day idiots! The nerve of comparing themselves with elite such as me or the Nae'blis! Outrageous!"

I couldn’t help but stare at this “teacher”. Whoever they were, they were a damned lunatic. I’ve gotten rants from the elderly before about how only they knew the value of hard work, but ye gods! It was as though every elderly person in the history of the world had been warped into a single entity! I had to get out of here, or I’d face death by lecture!

"YOU JUST RUINED YOUR LAST CHANCE!" he bellowed at me. I immediately jumped out of the chair, only to be accosted by the two accompanying him. Thankfully, it seems that the adrenaline gifted to me in my sheer desperation to avoid another lecture gave me the strength to wrench free of the two, and I sprinted down the nearest corridor at a pace I had previously not thought possible.

“Get back here!” The teacher bellowed after me. “In my days, we didn’t flee from school, even if it killed us! Which it did! Why, surviving school was considered the height of honor, so much so…”

Thankfully, it seemed the “teacher’s” accompaniment did not pursue me, and so thankfully, the teacher’s words were eventually drowned into silence by distance. That was way too close.

I have to say, this was a pleasant surprise. I hadn’t expected to find a fully working bath down here. Must be a drainage system that collects the water for the pool. Either way, I’m not one to complain about small miracles. I walked to the edge and dipped a finger in the water to see how the temperature was. Not surprisingly, it was pretty cold. Hmm. Well, I’m not going to catch cold if I just take a few minutes, surely.

“JoanK, what is this?” a voice called from behind me. I turned around, and saw two members of the retinue I was unfamiliar with. “It looks like you’ve found quite the prize!”

“Indeed, I was surprised myself to find this in such good condition. Very strange, don’t you think?”

The two walked up and one put a hand on my shoulder. “Yes, it is in very good condition. Don’t you feel we should leave it like that?” he said.

“Well, of course, but I’m sure it won’t hurt too much to clean ourselves real quick, right?”

I barely saw the flash of silver as he withdrew a gleaming, curved dagger and swiped at me. I managed to stumble my way backwards just in time, barely avoiding a gash. However, in my haste, I tripped over my feet and fell straight backwards into the pool. I sputtered as I found it deeper than I’d first thought.
“DEFILER!” The attacker screamed at me. “YOU DARE SPILL BLOOD IN THIS SACRED FOUNTAIN?” What? They were the ones who attacked me! It was then I heard the splash behind me, and before I could turn, I felt two swords run clean through my chest. There were more, waiting in the pool this whole time? The wound…. Everything… so cold. I felt myself drifting into the darkness, and letting my face fall into the cold abyss.

WHAT?! This was impossible! I came back to our meeting place, ready to discuss any findings, only to find that even more people were missing! Could we have had the wrong person? The thought made me shiver. The mob of followers was even more irate now that our lynching of NinjaCow seemed to have no effect.

“Now, folks, surely we can have a peaceful resolution to thi-“

“BLOOD! VENGEANCE!” The crowd chanted. I sighed.

“Very well, give me whoever’s doing this so we can get on with this and get out!”

Perhaps my retinue was not as... stalwart as I originally thought. Upon my concession to let them have another attempt at this savagery, the group huddled for an incredibly long time, whispering to each other just loud enough for me to know they were whispering, but not loud enough to know about what. After some time, however, it broke apart and the group looked around for a short moment before a scrum broke out. Myself and a few of my guards had to separate the lot by force. Finally settling down, they all pointed fingers at each other, with some changing their minds every couple of minutes. Halfway through, my scribe threw his scroll to the ground in a fit and curled into a ball, sucking his thumb. I sighed and just let the spectacle unfold. When things had calmed down, I simply asked for everyone to give me a present preference, and out of it, a fellow named God Emperor was picked by an incredibly narrow margin. The rational part of me was worried we were having a repeat of the last try. The other rational part of me argued that I was the divine emperor, and my will is impossibly perfect. Yes... I like that rational part of me. I'll go with that one. The entire three people convinced of God Emperor's guilt shoved him before me, in a sight that seemed oddly familiar. I unsheathed my sword, pointing its tip at the condemned man. God Emperor looked exasperated and irritated at the idea of his condemnation.

"This is ridiculous, I've done nothing!" He boasted. "You're all fools, it's clearly somebody else that did it!"

"Do you question my divine will?" I asked, with a raised eyebrow.

"Well, since the divine will is saying I should die, uh... yeah, I do!"

"Well, that's a shame, now I have to condemn you to death for heresy," I admonished him in the closest tone I could manage to a wise elder.

"But I was already condemned, you-" I didn't let him finish his obvious heresy, as I swung my blade down across his neck. Once again, I just missed a clean execution and had to take a few tries to get the head off. Oddly, the crowd seemed more impressed by the messy execution than anything else. How strange. Well, either way, we needed to go find ourselves an exit.

"Well done!" I complimented my retinue. "As you can see, we found ourselves a blasphemer. Clearly, it was him and his ilk who were betraying us! Now, off again! The sooner we find an exit, the sooner we can escape with our loot!"

Yes, I know the Roman thumbs down actually meant that the gladiator was allowed to live, but there aren't any decent images of that. At least not on the first page of Google image search and I'm too lazy to look further.

How did we even get the modern thumbs-up / thumbs-down tradition if the Romans did it backwards?

Nice.

For the record, because I have no partner, I did nothing N2.

I was obviously part of the failed kill on Ishmael N1.

If I die tonight, maybe that info will be useful, maybe it won't, I'll be too dead to really care.

Thanks for the game, gentlemens!

That was my understanding as well, that it was thumb down to live and thumb kind of towards the chest to die. As Arjos said though, there's plenty of debate over the matter.

I think it was up to live, and sideways to die. It was sideways because then the emperors thumb was pointing towards the heart. They never did a thumbs down I believe. Some painter came up with that one and everyone liked the idea.

It wasn’t often I had a hunch this strong. It was one of those things, a gut feeling, but stronger. Hard to describe. I found myself taking this corridor at a strong pace, driven as though by outside forces. Maybe it was fate. Heshin was following, me, keeping up well for someone born a commoner. I took the curving passageway down, and found myself at the doorway of a great library. Normally, I was not one to appreciate literature. One doesn’t reach my position just by being a learned scholar. Still, I couldn’t help but admit that it was an impressive site. The shelves were carved from the marble itself, holding manuscripts beyond counting. My hunch was, well, hunched down, in a corner, pouring over a massive text, his back to us. I sighed. Perhaps my instinct wasn’t correct. Still, it wouldn’t hurt to keep an eye out. I motioned to Heshin to follow me into a corner, and we sat ourselves down, keeping watch.

It didn’t take long for fate to prove my doubts wrong. Perhaps half an hour later, to our left, from the very doorway we had ourselves entered from, came a small gaggle of people. I nudged Heshin, and he nodded. It seemed they had not noticed us, and closed in on the scholar, TinCow. The four withdrew a variety of weapons- one with a club, another a spear, a third, a sword, and fourth, a knife. At that moment, their intentions were clear. TinCow, still buried in his work, did not seem to notice them. I withdrew my saber from its sheath with as clear a ring of authority as I could manage; Heshin followed suit.

“In the name of the Emperor and his divine authority, I order you to halt!” I commanded to the group. The four spun around on a heel, looking visibly panicked. “Move further and I shall attack! Flee now, or forever hold your peace with the creators!” Two of the four managed to regain some measure of composure, and immediately went on the offensive against us! The gall! However, they were little more than poorly trained raff. They lacked discipline, and came at us piecemeal. I dodged the sword wielder’s strike easily, and sliced his hand, not deep enough to cause a grievous wound, but enough that his weapon dropped with a clang. Heshin likewise was able to disarm the spear wielder with a clean, downward hack slicing the spear in two at the haft. Their two compatriots disarmed, the other two fled back. With little more provocation needed, the two aggressors followed suit. I smirked. It wasn’t much of a challenge, but it felt good to be back in action.

I stalked the corridors, embraced in the warm light of the god’s kindness. Some may have felt lonely, but so long as I had their kindness and favor, I didn’t truly need anyone else. My quarry was just ahead, speaking with another fellow at the corner of an intersection. These blasphemers, they did not know the value of where they tread. I grabbed my bow, and nocked an arrow. Blood would once again stain their hallowed pathways. Gods, grant me true aim and calm nerves. I let the arrow fly, and it struck my target true. It embedded into the base of Bsmith’s neck, instantly slaying the tainted heretic. Thank you gods, for allowing me to fulfill your will. Thank you for revealing your welcoming embrace to this humble human being. I slinked back away in the embrace of the gods.

“This might be a bit more challenging than last time,” I muttered aloud. I was crouched behind a corner of a passageway, peeking out at Arjos. He and another fellow were conversing in the middle of the hallway, making it obvious that they could see down both ways.

“I think you are overcomplicating this,” my partner whispered back from the other corner with a grin. “We are favored. We don’t need complicated tactics. Let us simply take him.”

I thought about it. He was correct, after all.

“Very well, then. Let us do this,” I said, withdrawing my knife. He did likewise. We turned the corner and made like bandits, rushing the two. Arjos was facing us, and his eyes went wide and he pointed as we approached. His partner turned around, but too slow! We ducked past on each side and slipped past as he was in mid-turn. We each made a quick slash across our bodies with our far side hands. My knife sliced across Arjos’ throat as my partner raked his stomach. We bounded past in a flash before they could react. With a mortal would to his throat, it was merely a matter of time before the heretic would bleed out. I considered a second run back, but the other man had already withdrawn a blade, more nervous for himself than his fallen comrade. We would take this- one small victory at a time. We could do it, we could bleed them out, siphoning the life from them, one by one…

This place was awful. Just terrible. Why did I even accept the offer to come down here? Was my lust for loot that strong? Wait… I shouldn’t answer that. Still, we were as far from the open seas as could be. I was as out of my element as any of these common soldiers would be out on the high seas. Either way, if I was going to be stuck down here, I may as well fulfill the original promise. Hence why I was now in this huge, abandoned temple. A service to the gods would have been truly impressive here. Even more impressive was the amount of entirely intact statuettes, perfectly preserved painted marble slaps, and golden idols. I had a couple of small bags with me, to carry away as many of the idols and statuettes as I could without risking damage to them. It would be a number of trips back here before I could clean it out, but when I got out of here, I would be a fabulously wealthy man. Well, even more fabulously wealthy than I already am, I thought with a grin.

“Oh, hello there, Captain,” a voice called out from behind me. “We know what you’re really up to, you know,” it continued. Rolling my eyes, I turned and held one of the bags out.

“Oh, fine, I guess you caught me. What do you want, a share, I suppose?” There were five fellows before me, each wearing a woolen cloak. “Look, there’s plenty of loot to go around, we can split it, say, 40% to me for finding this place, and 12% for each of you? That’s fair, no?”

“Not what we’re talking about, Captain Zack,” the head figure at the front spoke again, shaking his head. “And we won’t allow it to continue.” He withdrew a blade from a sheath at his side. I opened my eyes wide.

“Now, see here!” I bellowed. “I am commander of the royal navy! I have the full patronage of our divine emperor! Now stand down!”

“Not this time, Zack,” the head figure said, shaking his head again. He motioned forward with an arm, and the group encircled me. I withdrew my own sword, an elegant sabre.

“A captain never surrenders!” I barked out. “You’ll not take me alive!”

“Oh, don’t worry, we had no intention of that,” the head figure drawled out slowly. A searing pain went through my shoulder as a sword embedded into my arm from behind. I whipped around and lashed behind me, but they were already ducked out of the way. Another blow from behind struck my right shoulder, and my blade dropped. I grabbed it with my left arm and slashed back violently, but this attacker had already withdrawn as well. I turned on the spot wildly. I just spotted another attack from my peripheral vision and deflected it with my sabre, but again, I felt the same pain shoot through my midsection as a sword rammed into my back. I fell to my knees, coughing blood.

I glared insolently as the head figure walked up to me slowly. He held his sword aloft, calmly, ready to strike me down. “Consider this a mutiny.”

I took it that we were supposed to be finding an exit. The orders were clear. I didn’t know what the others were doing, but I would keep at it. I stood at a doorway, held shut by massive marble slab. It seemed familiar. Maybe similar to the one that kept the place shut away? I pressed against it, and opened it up. A musty smell greeted me, along with a chorus of hissing. Hissing? I stepped inside. There was a… swarm of snakes. Of all kind. Snakes? Impossible, they would need to feed, at least on each other. Yet, I plainly felt one slithering up my leg, a small green affair. The rest decided to join their compatriot and began a mad slithering forward. There wouldn’t be time to haul this door closed. So, I did the only thing a reasonable fellow could. I ran… and ran and ran and ran.

“What a strange place,” I wondered aloud. I wasn’t really sure what this was exactly. It was a large, open forum, but it was completely vacant except for a large dais in the middle. It was not decorated like much of the complex. It was made of the same marble, but it felt very incomplete. Perhaps it was intended as a public square? Maybe there were manuscripts nearby to help figure this-

Kill.

Of course. It was so obvious. It didn’t matter. All that mattered...

Kill.

Where was he? He was nearby, I know it! He has to be! I picked up my pace, heading back into the corridors from the forum. I could feel it. I know he’s close!

Kill.

I turned a corner and pulled back immediately. There was another with him, but it didn’t matter. He was far down the corridor. All that mattered…

Kill.

Why did I only have a knife on me? How could I have been so idiotic? Oh well, it would have to do. I’ll have to make it work so I can...

Kill.

Speed. Yes, speed. I would take him by surprise. My knife ready, I turned the corner and went into a full sprint. Ironside turned around, hearing my approach, eyes wide with surprise. But it didn’t matter. I flew at speeds I didn’t know I could muster. He readied a sword, but it was irrelevant.

Kill.

I leaped to cover the last few feet, flying straight into him. My knife plunged into his chest with a satisfying thud. He slashed at me with his sword, nicking my arm, but it didn’t matter. All that mattered was....

Kill.

I wrenched the knife into his chest, twisting it, relishing the feel of ribs being wrested apart. His flailing amused me as I pulled his chest apart. The sinews were especially satisfying. I was vaguely aware of the second figure rapidly approaching. But it didn’t matter. All that mattered was…

Kill.

I ripped my knife out and plunged it one last time into Ironside’s jugular, to ensure my victory. I jumped up just in time to back out from a spear thrust from the other man. I ran with reckless abandon back down the hall. The other fellow didn’t give chase, attending to Ironside. But there was nothing he would be able to do. I cackled with glee. What success! What a rush! Oh, how I had forgotten! How could I have let the memories fade! What glory it was to...

Kill.

I have to say, I am now legitimately concerned. Maybe this crowd has it right? I came back, with no progress to report on finding an exit, but only to find four more members of the retinue did not return. A fifth, TinCow, reported being attacked as well, only to be saved at the last second. Was my divine will faulty? Or was there something more at hand? Either way, I didn't even resist the crowd's demand for blood this time. They were correct... blood had to be spilled for the fallen. Vengeance was to be had, for their memory and our survival. I looked at my scribe knowingly, who seemed to have recovered himself since we departed. He looked with a determined gaze at his parchment. Good. We would all need to be at the peak of our performance now...

It is now Day 3! You have 36 hours! (this is to avoid another phase ending at 3 am >:( Feedback will be out asap.

Also, the folks who were involved in the cult are not open for discussion. I cannot talk about it. But I will say this: They are nice people. Good people. They do NOT practice cannibalism, nor do they engage in frontal lobe modification. They are not actually a cult, but a bona fide religion-themed organization. I am not a member of this cult, even though I have participated in their activities. I follow them unquestioningly, but out of loyalty, not because they have removed and eaten part of my frontal lobe. ATPG - my track record with guessing his alignment is...not the best, but he seems a bit more forthright than he is as scum. Slightly less obfuscation as normal. I have a good feeling about this read :beam:.
Lazy McCrow - He bothered to correct the spelling of my name, and unvoted me. What more need I say? (also, I'm getting a townie feel off him. Nothing I can put more finger on, unfortunately)

What we know: 4 attacked Tincow, and 2 protected him. 5 attacked Zack.

If these would reveal in-thread, vouching for each other's performance, we would be able to clear 11 individuals.

Edse and Makrell are likely town: they seem to have contacted a bunch of us concerning a Pizza-protection.

The other kills seem to have been 3rd-party and scum.

Seriously, guys: half the players revealed as town would break the back of the enemy. Group actions are group actions - it would be difficult to fake one's way out of this.

Montmorency has basically said it all, so I'll just confirm all this - Monty, Double A, Arjos and I attacked TinCow, and I think it's pretty evident from the write-up that it wasn't one of the 'scum' kills (there seems to be two SKs and a mafia group operating, judging by the write-ups). The same is true for the group that killed Zack. I stand by my list of probable townies earlier, and as Montmorency mentioned particularly Makrell, who contacted three of us (but not me ) trying to protect Pizza, which seems a fairly legitimate townie move considering the likelihood that he would be attacked.

Also, unvote, vote: TinCow. Same as the others really - I have a funny feeling about you (as evidenced by the attack), and I don't really have anybody else I really think is scum.

Ah, so I actually have to defend myself this round. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to disappoint you, as I don't have much else to say. I've been active both nights as part of vig groups, both successful. On N1, I killed JoanK. One person (my partner) failed to submit orders, so there were only three of us, though the write-up does not clearly state that. We either got lucky there or one of us is scum. On N2, I killed Zack (sorry mate) with 4 other people. All of us submitted orders.

That's all I've got. Lynch away.

3 other people....

Just because you guys were in the groups doesn't make you townie by default, at least not all of you. Mafia can infiltrate the groups, so why is it impossible for any member of your group to be mafia?

All four of us participated in the attack, as is visible in the writeup. On N1, we tried to kill Tincow and protect Arjos, but split 2-2. If the scum could attack as a group of 2 yesterday and this night, then it indicates that of these two possibilities -
The mafia may be infiltrated into these starting groups, or may be in their own groups. - the latter is the case. If the scum are not spread around, then our initial groups are secure.

I didn't find a 5th on N1, that was on N2. On N1 there were supposed to be 4 of us, but my partner didn't submit orders so there were just 3. On N2 there were 5, as my partner showed up and we added another. The other person's partner had questionable activity levels and it wasn't felt to be worthwhile to try and get them to show up. We didn't expect my partner to show up at all, so we expect it to be a group of 4 consisting of one intact pair and two solos. I asked 'khaan and he said that he would allow such a scenario to work properly as long as there was at least one intact pair. In the end, my partner did get orders in though, so we had two intact pairs, plus the fifth.

As for how I found the other people, that's a pretty silly question (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?142389-The-House-of-Origin-IN-PLAY&p=2053490085&viewfull=1#post2053490085).

There are 4 scum, and 5 were in the group against Zack.

You have Bsmith killt by an SK or something, and Riedquat vouching for you. Unless the other two vouch, it is entirely possible that you and Riedquat are dissembling scum.

What reason would you give for refusing to name the others, eh? The purpose here is to clear half the town, not merely to satisfy my curiosity.

You've crossed the line from interrogating for lynch purposes to trying to gain names of active vigging townies. I specifically said that on N5 we had two full sets of two, plus a fifth, so the kill absolutely would have succeeded under the rules and there's no purpose at all for you to need to know the extra names. The questionable activity was on N1, with the group of 3, not N2, with the group of 5. You are fishing for information, and you are scummy.

Yes, I'm fishing for information. That the point!

I'll walk you through it: if 5 players vig, and 4 are scum, and the 5 players reveal and vouch for each other, then they are guaranteed to be non-scum at this stage. If only four vouch, then there is a risk that the whole scum-team has gone in. Do you understand my point? With my tetrarchy, Arjos was likely killed by the same pair which killed Atheotes: that is, scum. So the four scum couldn't be our number.

Do you get it?

Trying to get mass-revealers lynched because they want more transparency is highly suspect behavior, Tincow. Additionally, it can not be forgotten that BSmith was apparently killed by a 3rd-party type.

I strongly recommend that Tincow's partner vouch for him. As it stands, Tincow + Riedquat+ Whiteyes might be the Mafia group.

That's all - your partner need only reveal, and the chain will be complete. What makes you so afeared of the request?

What bothers me is that TinCow was protected by two people, how do we know that they weren't just lucky townies?

Yes, that's why I'd like them to reveal as well. Scum would have no incentive to go around protecting townies.

:stare: The rules say there are 4 mafioso. There was a kill by two people on N2, and no townies are claiming it, unlike the other kills. That kill is almost certainly mafia, which means that there cannot possibly be 4 mafioso in my group. Plus, I'm not that stupid. Do you really think that if I was mafia I would participate in a vig action with all of my scum partners, plus add on a fifth person so they would know the names of the entire group?

That doesn't follow. What I'm saying is that it's possible that you as a scum team took credit for the Zack attack; if 5 were to vouch, or 4 with 1 dead even, then that possibility could be ruled out.

Let me get this straight, you're claiming it's possible I'm taking responsibility for a kill I didn't do to save myself. A kill in which the write-up specifically says 5 people were involved. How stupid would I have to be to make a claim like that, when there were 5 people who could call me a liar? And so far we have people confirming what I've said, and no one disputing it. Yes, it technically is possible:

Doesn't want to reveal his partner, because White eyes is his partner and BSmith was town - Ried made a slip.

Doesn't want to reveal partner because there is none to reveal; Ried, Bsmith, Tincow, and Whiteyes were the starting scum.

Technically. I have some faith in you, however, and doubt that you would panic into this kind of trap. Riedquat, on the other hand... :sneaky:

There isn't really a reason not to reveal though, as it let's the viggers know whom to avoid. With your partner and your protectors, we could have 11/22 effectively cleared, with Pizza not far behind. You have not provided even a single reason for your intransigence.

Nope, since you can't even 'confirm' any of us as townies. The write-up shows two group kills, a duo kill, and what looks like a solo kill. At best, we're still missing one mafioso, likely two. Those extras could be hiding in the vig groups and just participating with us, so even knowing our names means nothing. Someone who's putting this much effort into lynching me with 'logic' should be aware of this.

Yes, the Mafia may indeed have infiltrated a full pair (the second) into one of our group-conglomerates. On the other hand, if all of these "cleared" have N1 alibis, and their presence is confirmed by the numbers in the writeups...

Why would half the Mafia team waste time on an extended townie cooperation scheme, when, by being placed into their own discrete pairs from the beginning, could have quietly gone about their own Mafia thing? Or do you suggest that one of the pairs is specifically geared toward an infiltration role?

At the very least, these named are in the 90%+ range. You must admit this.
