View Full Version : Small Mafia Game Pratia III
Pratia III
"RUN!!" Aaron Anduin and a small group of others fled in a terrorized panic. Gunshots and blood-curdling screams could be heard from behind them, fueling their legs with fear and driving them further and further away from home.
The screams and sounds of war dissipated in the wind as the distance grew. They stopped next to a small stream amongst the trees, resting their racing hearts and burning muscles.
Michael Engels stood up, neck still bandaged but the wound had been healing remarkably fast, "Is everybody okay?" No one said a word, their entire world had been taken from them, and only the able-bodied had been able to escape successfully.
Michael stooped down, "It's going to be alright, we just need to find shelter near here and lay low. The Praters will leave."
The group rested for a short time and then began their quest looking for shelter. "Michael" lead the way, a smirk on his face and evil in his eyes.

I'm horribly confused in Pratia II, but apparently I'm a glutton for punishment. In please!
It's good to see such a response so quickly, I only hope we can keep up this pace until Pratia II ends :2thumbsup:

We will need at least 6 pro town power roles this time to get a chance! :laugh4:
Sign-ups are open and will close on Tuesday, November 12th at 9:00PM (GMT-6)
Time Remaining:
This information has been added to the first post.
Sorry for the double post but I wanted to make sure this got flagged with a new message so the contenders and possible prospects would check it out.
With each passing day the plan for this game becomes more and more unique, I would say less mafia-esque but still it is essentially a mafia game. The first set of phases will be based around the discovery of an antagonist against the town. The town will need to vote in a liaison to speak for them, and a series of public questions will be asked. Discussion among the members will ultimately determine whether the liaison answers correctly. If the liaison answers incorrectly, or simply not to the antagonists satisfaction, the entire town will be killed. End of game.
Survival decisions, forks in the road, etc will exist throughout the game. So, players will have the opportunity to work together for the greater good, all the while suspecting each other for being the mafioso...
Now, if that doesn't interest you, I don't know what would..
This information will also appear in the original post.
I hope to get 20 players, if not, c'est la vie.

I'm sorry to hear that and I hope all is well (or will be) in RL. We are losing a good man.. If anything changes please let me know.
Also thanks for the heads up before the game started.

Hey everyone, what is your time zone? I am working on some game mechanics and knowing where most of you are would be most helpful.
If you are sensitive about posting it publicly I will accept PMs, if you choose not to say please let me know regardless.

In approximately 12 hours I will post the prologue, which is somewhat of a initial plot twist. Don't worry, nobody's going to die... yet...
Here's how it will go:
1) Day Phase 1 (48 hours)
----a) Prologue and questions posted
----b) Elections for a Liaison and discussion
2) Night Phase 1 (24 hours)
----a) Role PMs sent out
----b) Answers to questions sent by Liaison
----c) Other night actions sent in
3) Typical mafia format begins
Sign-ups will remain open during the first day phase since no one will have received their role PMs yet, for those late arrivals who just need so say "IN!"
:whip:
I see a schedule conflict tonight, so I will start this phase prematurely, but remember, signups are allowed throughout this phase which ends on Tuesday, 9:00PM (GMT-6)
Day Phase 1
Michael Engels had assumed a sort of leadership, knowing full well none of the members of the survivors knew he was really Hayden Matthews. He led them further and further away from Mobile, from where the Praters had ran them over. They had been torn apart, and now forced to seek refuge in a cave next to a small stream.
“We’re going to be okay” Michael reassured them, “We’re far away from them now, we just need to rest and regroup.”
After assigning jobs each of the survivors stayed busy gathering food and water, building cots, and doing whatever else they could come up with. The point was to establish a meager living for now until a better plan arose, and with this they toiled and then they rested.
Early that next morning a booming voice entered their cave, “Well what do we have here!?” They all jumped and looked to see in the dim light a group of men. Michael stood, as his sleeping area was already near the entrance where they were, said, “What can we help you with, sirs?”
The man, looking much cleaner and well kempt than the others of his group approached Michael. He was a tall man, looking down at Michael and at the rest of the remnants. “You’re on our land.”
He looked over at the crowd and scanned them, “I should kill all of you right now, but instead we’re going to play a little game.” He looked back at Michael, “See that clearing across the draw?” Michael looked and nodded, “In 48 hours you will send one of your people over and give me an answer to three questions. If I like your answers, I’ll let you stay here; you don’t seem to be threats anyway.”
“What if you don’t like our answers?” Michael asked.
“Then you all die” the man said, emotionless.
Michael and the people tensed up, and after a moment Michael asked, “What are your questions?”
The man handed him a folded note, and walked out without another word. His men followed behind and disappeared behind the trees.
Michael opened the note and read the questions out loud,
"1. What is the moral choice, killing one man to save five, or allowing one man to live knowing it will result in the death of five others?
2. A man’s wife is dying of a horrible disease, and a local doctor has a very expensive medication that will cure her. The man does not have the money, but without the medication his wife will die. He also knows that stealing the medication will result in his imprisonment, possibly for life. What course of action should he take?
3. Why should I let you all live?"
Michael finished up, folding the note and putting it in his pocket. “Well, let’s decide who we’re sending, and how to answer these questions…”
Explanation:
-All players are invited to vote to elect a Liaison to speak with the mysterious men.
-Please discuss the answers to these questions, for the Liaison must PM me after this phase ends with the answers. The more discussion in thread, the better the results will be (Just saying)
-You may elect yourself.
-Elect:Abstain is a valid vote although ill-advised at this time.
-Role PMs will be sent out at the conclusion of this phase.
-New signups will be allowed until the conclusion of this phase.
Day Phase 1 ends on Tuesday, November 12th at 9:00PM (GMT-6)

First, GMT -3!
Elect: Darth Feather
1) In our ideal society, I would say let the individual chose, now we try to be that ideal society but in fact we are in survival mode, as such we must chose the lesser evil, sacrifice one to save five.
2) As society, this man needs to look for a new, younger and healthy wife! :laugh4: Seriously, as society we can't justify a crime against any of us!
3) Because of our morality standards!
elect: edse - what could possibly go wrong?
1. It is not moral for any individual to intervene in such a way as to take a life, unless such action is endorsed by the state. Given our current circumstances, I would interpret this to say that killing one man to save five would be acceptable if endorsed by a majority of our group, although whether it would be moral would be up to each individual. In a slightly out of character note, I would be hesitant to return an answer indicating it would be acceptable for one man to be killed to save five, as it opens us up for these people to throw our moral standards back in our teeth with a nasty ultimatum.
2. If the man had exhausted all legal outcomes, and the community was unable or unwilling to chip in to help him, theft would be morally (but still not legally) acceptable.
3. Because I'm holding a thermal detonator!
(Look, I'm sorry. I couldn't resist)

New to the forum, this is me trying to make a good impression.
Elect: Darth Feather
1. To be directly responsible for the murder of one man, or indirectly responsible for the deaths of 5... :juggle: I admit I am perplexed, yet I must answer...
The answer lies in the wording of the question, "...killing one man..." or "...will result in the death of five...". There are laws against murder, but are there laws against idling standing by? No. So if you look at it that way, murder is ultimately wrong, and since you are indirectly responsible for the deaths of the other 5, legally you are not.
Morally though, 5 lives vs. 1 life?
I must go against murder, although my instinct is telling me not to answer...
2. Legally the man will be guilty, but morally the man would be innocent. Medicine, money, these are just things. Money is not life, but the medicine could potentially be. I must lean in favor of the theft, any man that truly loves his wife would own up to the responsibility of his punishment. Life vs. Money? Life hands down.
3. We pose no threat to them, we are but survivors of a brutal reign upon our people... And as I said in the first answer, murder is ultimately wrong, but if we are to face death by our hands, we must defend ourselves. Take some out before we go, go out guns blazin'.

1: If the man is white and the others aren't, then the white man should live.
2: Let her die. He can take another
3: You should let us live because the others work very well under my supervision.
Darth Feather

Elect Darth Feather
1) I say we kill the one man. As human life is the most valuable thing there is, we should make sure as few life as possible is lost.
2) Self-explanatory if you look at my last reasoning. He should steal as life is the most valuable thing there is.
3) You wouldn't take away 14 times the most valuable thing there is, now would you?
Ibn-Khaldun
11-11-2013, 11:49
Elect: edse
1. Killing one to save five is the only way.
2. Depends on the disease and what will happen if her life is saved. If saving her life means that she have to live the rest of her life in a bed etc then it's not worth it. If saving her life means she will be completely healed then stealing those medications could be an option. However, if the man steals and goes to prison for life does she remain faithful to him just like the man was to her.. I guess it's easier not to steal.
3. Because why should he kill us? We just want to rest for now and move on later.
Elect: edse Yeah, what could possibly go wrong?
1. What is the moral choice, killing one man to save five, or allowing one man to live knowing it will result in the death of five others?
Killing one to save five. It does depend on the circumstances, but in a general case where one doesn't know anything else, the less dead the better.
2. A man’s wife is dying of a horrible disease, and a local doctor has a very expensive medication that will cure her. The man does not have the money, but without the medication his wife will die. He also knows that stealing the medication will result in his imprisonment, possibly for life. What course of action should he take?
As Ibn-Khaldun said, if she will have a "good" life after she's cured he may steal. (Also if the medicine is horribly overpriced)
3. Why should I let you all live?
We are no threat to you.
Never actually signed up for this game, but sure I'll play. :clown:
Elect: Ishmael
1. Let the one man live, if he isn't going to be the one to kill the five others and hasn't done anything wrong, why should he die?
Either that or just kill all six of them for simplicity.
2. The man should not steal. Who is to say there is not another person also needing the medicine, who has earned the money to pay for it.
3. You shouldn't.
Riedquat

Context!
For the first question is all good, but for the second we have a problem, we still use money? Mobilians dollars? Pesos? We are resurging as society, and the importance of our first answers is reflected in the third.
If we are on survival mode, the third answer will get all us killed, so are we an organized society/group or a mob? If I find a mob in my land I would shoot at them first and then ask questions, so these people giving us the questions at least have seen something good on us; I think we need to look at ourselves and try to find it before is to late.
So with that in mind, I change my answers:
1) Let the man chose, is his life and his burden, we are not qualified to make the choice, best we can do is relieve him the rest of his life and give justice to the deceased, whatever it takes.
2) A crime is a crime, for more understandable the motives of this man, if he steal he will pay prison time, this time will be decided by a court of his pairs.
3) We are trying to re-make an equalitarian (sp) society, a better democracy than what we lost, we are not a threat to anybody, we just expect to prosper in peace.
By the way, Michael! I think you need to know there is a guy here trying to mine your authority, he is named rickinator ;)

I think what we have here is an intelligent malevolence, an enemy who has threatened us but has given us a chance to save our lives. If we don't answer to his satisfaction, all of us will die, so conclusively we must answer these questions morally and fully.
Let's prove we are worthy of life, and give them no reason to choose extermination over peace.
I think we need some answering around here.
1. Ever since old society collapsed there has not been any grand states, the individual must decide collectiviely. Therefore, i would ask other individuals the same question, thereby coming upon the answer after a long discussion.
2. The man should borrow the medicine, and give what in return he can. He should not go to prison if he deems the payment proper, so he should flee to the next area and assume a new identity once the wife heals enogh to leave.
3. We should not die, because we are valuable, work may not be scarce, but philosophers are lacking. We think, therefore we should live.

Well, we aren't! We are survivors, civilian, politics, soldiers, (if there is a philosopher, he better start doing something useful like gathering food!!) from the last pratian attack, we are mobilians (for the lack of geographical context I suppose we moved away from the pratians, right?) We are in the Democratic Republic of Mobile (Alabama? Paraguay? Cyprus? Angola?) and as mobilians we need to stick together before pratians come and kill everyone!
To the philosophers among us: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegory_of_the_Cave read this and come with an understandable answer! then go and gather some food or clean the crapper from the back of the bloody cave! :P

1. One life to save 5.
2. Stealing shouldn't be an option because as a group of survivors we should band togther to earn the medicine.
3. As a group of survivors you should let us live because we all have different skill sets that may be useful to you in the future.
I’m fine with Elect: Darth Feather
1. Depends. Is the one man my bother or son? Are the 5 men strangers? I would gladly save my brother, father, son or even a friend even if it meant that 5 strangers died. All else being equal, let one die to save five.
2. Steal the meds and save your wife. Worry about the ramifications later.
3. This is a hostile world. While it does mean more mouths to feed, keeping us around also means more hands to help you defend your territory and protect you from outside danger.
So, shall we try to reach a consensus? On a quick reread this seems to be the winning answers:
1. Kill one to save five.
2. Steal the medicine.
3. We are useful to you.

Judging by the host's emphasis on discussion, I would also conclude that our answers need to be fairly descriptive, or at least elegantly written. No 5 word sentences posing as an answer.

I'm going to go with elect: edse, he seems to have a solid head on his shoulders.
As for my responses to the moral questions;
1) Ideally we would find a way that all 6 would be able to live, however since this seems to be out of reach I would say kill 1 to save 5. If I were the one I would think of no better way to go out than by saving others
2) I would steal the meds in a heartbeat, unless the person I was stealing the meds for did not want the meds.
3) In this post-apocalyptic world we must find a way to work together for the common good.
It ends with a tie, random.org chooses edse

Day Phase 1
edse (whose character name shall remain anonymous for now) was chosen by the people to represent them, discussing their answers they relied on the basics of necessity and survival to will their questioners to leave them be.
Forty-eight hours passed and edse alone met the tall man in the clearing across the stream.
"Please, sit down." The man pointed to a stump behind edse, sitting himself down on a large rock not a couple yards from him.
"What answers did you and your people come up with?" The man asked, piercing glare introducing itself to edse for the first time.
Shuffling to gain a certain level of uncertain comfort, edse replied, "We believe this is a time of survival, of working together and finding a way to be functional as a group. Life is precious. We cannot cast it away unwilling to accept the negative consequences of one less pair of hands to work and defend. The moralistic repercussions of allowing death is tragic, the less death, the better. One death for the life of five, theft of the medicine for the life of his wife..."
The man's stare did not cease as he listened, unemotional, stoic. "You did not answer the last question."
"I believe I did." edse's courage intriguing to the man.
A silence filled the air for some time before the tall man stood up, "Leave us alone and we'll leave you alone. You're right, we may need you someday." The stoic man allowed his face to bend into a smirk as he walked away.
Confused, edse returned to the cave where his people awaited what turned out to be a positive response. "We still live, for now..."
Explanation:
-Answers were accepted, players allowed to live.
(I am currently working on role PM's which for some reason have vanished from my server account... They will be posted tonight and hopefully the first night phase as well)
Night Phase 1
After facing the possibility of utter annihilation, the town settled down for the night. Everyone half expected the men to return, so they set up a watch in which to keep an eye on the entrance. They had fashioned some makeshift spears out of a few sticks they've found, and had some hand-sized rocks available too for melee battle. All attempted to rest.
Michael had taken the first watch with a man he had only just met. They sat quietly outside the entrance, when the man said, "I don't know why we run.."
"What do you mean?" Michael replied, slightly confused.
"The Praters will find us, and we're all going to die." He replied, looking at Michael with sad eyes glossed over.
"What do you propose we do then?" Silence persevered for a moment, when finally the saddened man returned, "Give ourselves up, swear allegiance to them, maybe we'll get to live."
Michael was shocked by this man's attitude. Did he mean it? There's no way he suspects him to be the traitor he is, perhaps this lends to him an advantage.
"What if I told you that you could?" Michael responded, curiosity tugging at him.
The other man stirred a little, "What do YOU mean?"
Michael smiled, "Let's just say I could arrange that..."
Role PMs have all been sent out!
Day Phase 2 has begun and will end tomorrow night (November 14th) and 9:00pm with chance for 24 hour extension.

I'm sorry, today is my bubble-punching day... :hide:

1) You're right :wall:
2) BUT... sometimes people don't use the actual name or the player they're voting for, like "ATPG" instead of "Askthepizzaguy"
3) I guess I could announce and enforce a rule saying players must use the actually spelling of the player BUT...
4) I don't know how to program that anyway :shame:
Thanks for pointing out my faults Ried!

Change of plans, the round is over and I will post the write-up in the next few hours. Let's get this show on the road!
Day 2
"Everyone, wake up!" Michael yelled at the break of dawn, the guards had fallen asleep and he was the first to discover them. They awoke, "What is it?" A woman asked. Michael scanned their faces critically, everyone confused and caught off guard.
He pointed to a woman, Heidi Niles (autolycus), a doctor by her own admission. "When I woke up I saw her sneaking around with a knife in her hand, I think she was going to attack somebody." Heidi attempted to defend herself when he cut her off, "Don't try to deny it! You're a Prater spy, aren't you!?"
Heidi was speechless, and the rest of the group interpreted that as guilt. No one knew the woman, in fact everybody here were strangers. Some faces may have seemed familiar, but overall, these people didn't know each other.
Aaron Anduin was closest to Heidi and searched her pack, "There's a knife in here..." he said after his discovery.
She responded, "Of course I do! We need weapons to survive!" She looked around shocked at their sudden suspicion. "I am innocent, I swear!"
"Grab her." Michael said, and two men nearest to her each took an arm. Michael walked up to her, "I thought we escaped you, but turns out you followed us here." They drug her outside, kicking and screaming. Michael took the knife that was in her pack, "We're through with you Praters, we're free now! Just leave us alone!"
Before he went for the kill he allowed a small wink and a smirk, only Heidi saw it, and her eyes grew wide knowing exactly what was happening. The enemy was here, and he was calling the shots. Before she could say a word, her throat was cut, and she died instantly.
They buried her body, and Michael addressed the crowd, "The enemy infiltrated our camp, after all they did to us, now we're finally rid of the scum." And they went on living, not knowing they had just buried one of the only chances they had for survival.
Explanation:
Lynch - Heidi Niles (autolycus)
Night Phase 2 has begun, we will allow up to until 9pm tomorrow night, but if all orders are received the round will end early. Please send in all Night orders before the allotted time.
I would like to remind you all that discussion during the Night Phase's actually affect how the game plays out, the more discussion the better the chances of a town success. To not do so could mean a "natural disaster" wiping out half of your camp, or worse

C'mon we need to discuss something. If not we will be all killed. So I'll ask, what do you think those stoic men have to do with all of this?
I agree with DF the stoic men seem to behave abnormal, maybe they have a purpose.
Are the stoic men the question askers yes?
might they be among the players?
Zain did say this game would become more unique (read: confusing) as time goes on, so I would be amazed if the Chekhov's gun of these stoic strangers wasn't fired in the future. With that said, the first write-up strongly suggests that they are separate from our group, and there isn't any in-story reason that I can discern as to why they would be among the players. Zain seems to like this story he's telling; I doubt he'd retcon it for the sake of convenience of game mechanics.
TL;DR: Can't do anything until we get more info, so discussing for the sake of discussing :beam:.
Maybe they are superbad, but will suddenly die next turn. then someone else might do something.

I think those men were just a bit of flavour but our answers will come back to bite our townie asses at some point!
More concerned at the moment, with the possibility of recruitment from Michael/Hayden!
Round ended 10 minutes ago but I'm missing a quite large sum of PMs from players with night abilities. For the sake of clarity, I will PM them and remind them that it is their time to act. Further, I will extend the round 24 hours to grant them time to make a decision.
Sorry for the delay, beginning of complex games can sometimes be seen as ambiguous.
Hah those players are going down.

Who were those players?!
I wasn't one of them
Night Two
Feeling secure in themselves, and dwindled down to but 13 individuals, one being Michael Engels the assumed leader of the group (and for our purposes the enemy), they slept that night with the lax guard they had thrown together the night before. However assumed, their safety could not be guaranteed, at least not yet...
Michael and his pessimistic friend had the second shift that night, keeping themselves awake was no problem for this time their thoughts were on a higher order.
"Don't move, just wait." Michael ordered him, making sure the man didn't wake anyone else. Michael pulled a long knife from his bag he had set next to his feet along the cave wall before his shift had started. He approached a sleeping man in his 30's or 40's, they had shared no words. He didn't know his name, nor did he think he knew his. How can one spend so much time with such a small group and still not know everyone?
Michael stooped down, knife in hand squeezing the handle hard, white knuckles in the darkness. He had killed many, but this one seemed different. He looked the man in his face, and saw himself. He blinked, shook his head, and his vision had blurred. He attempted to shake it off again, but it got worse. He got up, knowing the longer he tarried the more likely of discovery.
He went back to his waiting compatriot, eyes blurred and burning. "What happened?" he asked Michael.
Michael looked at him and his vision cleared, "I'm not sure..." He got up to try it again, to end the life of this ordinary man, but this time a terrible pain stabbed through his ribs and into his lungs. He couldn't get near the man...
Michael returned once again and instructed his buddy to try it, but to no avail. His breathing ceased the moment he approached the man and did not return until he had left.
Frustrated Michael sat until his shift had finished, unsuccessful in his attempt to kill tonight.
Day Phase 3 has begun!

If you were town, why would you reveal your ability now?
Why not? Different situation if somebody else comes by stating he was attacked instead of Makrell, but an innocent unkillable at night should be safe steeping forward!!
Now, Ferret needs to be lynched asap! Just because I say so! ;) ;)
Let be clear here... Ferret is scum!
I've been subtle enough? :laugh4:
Because if the mafia know he is immune to night attacks they will no longer attack him. If he had not said anything then they may have assumed he was protected or the attack failed for some other reason and gone on to waste future attacks on him. Now that he has revealed this ability it has become completely useless.
But as I have made clear, I do not believe he has it. Had he claimed to have been protecting himself then maybe, but flat out night time invincibility? I'm not so sure, even in a game packed with power roles that sounds unlikely. Claiming this ability also gives a scum player the perfect excuse for not ever being attacked in future, as he will just claim the supposed scum bags know they can't kill him so aren't bothering to try.
I don't buy it.
Lynch me if you like, my ability isn't particularly useful for the town, so I wouldn't be a great loss. Just promise me you'll all take a long look at Makrell and Riedquat after I flip town.

night time invincibilty does sound like an odd ability. Were i scum i would not have claimed to have an ability I have never ever seen or heard of in a mafia game, i wouldve said i was protected by myself or something as youve said sounds more likely. Yes you may quote anything posted in thread
Well, there is one obvious way of testing it....
There is another way. My ability is deciding the outcome of a tie in the lynch vote. I'm sure we could all agree that it would be incredibly unlikely for a scum player to have such an ability so if I get the opportunity to use it I'd consider myself cleared. If we can finish the round with myself and Makrell/Riedquat on equal votes, then I will demonstrate this ability.
I would like to stress that I am merely outlining this option, not suggesting we do it. People always get fidgety in a tie situation and I doubt the round would finish with the tie still in place.
I don't mind being lynched if it will highlight the fake detective among us.

not unless we gamble. As per the extreme amount of roles id guess many players have some votechangingabilty(doublevote or ghostvote) So a tie is not impossible.

Riedquat accuses Ferret due to an investigation. Either he's lying (dumb move due to the attention he gets for it), he's telling the truth (so we should listen), or he's deceived (off-detective role, perhaps insane or paranoid)
2/3 chances say he's innocent, so...

The Third Day
Lyndsay Chamberlain (Ferret) lay in her sleeping bag drifting between consciousness states early that morning when a man sat up yelling. That man had been attacked that night, or at least attempted to be attacked, and survived without a scratch.
"What happened?" Michael asked him, coming from his bag as well. The watch startled.
"It was too vivid to be a dream, someone was hovering over me with a knife last night! I couldn't move, and for some reason they couldn't either!"
He looked around the cave, "Someone tried to kill me!"
Accusations and defenses flew up immediately, fingers being pointed were the norm and eventually the crowd settled on one person, Lyndsay. She was a fairly influential member of the group, but as per everybody's alibi, and especially one young woman's who claimed to be a detective of sorts, she was the one chosen to die.
They drug her outside, her yelling, kicking, biting, all the while Michael waited outside with the same knife in his hand he wielded the night before. "Any last words?"
She looked him in the eyes, gave him the most evil look anyone can give another human being, and said nothing. Michael sliced her throat.
Night PMs please!

At this point we can discuss who of you all still think my scan result was correct. I am still crossing my fingers and hoping for a write-up with only Michael on it, or at least a single scum. But if it doesn't happen... well it means, my scan ability sucks or Ferret was a third party scum (a possibility I really have doubts about).
The write-up after the first night shows the Pratian sympathiser as a man, and if a third party scum hasn't done anything by tonight we can probably conclude they don't exist. With that said I'd be hesitant to lynch you, since it would be a strange scum move to fake a scan in the very first lynch phase when there are pseudo-reveals. Hopefully your further scans can narrow down what the quirk in them is (insane/paranoid, or something weird like correct every second night?).

Her eyes were evil, but was it directed at Michael or?
...while Michael waited outside with the same knife in his hand he wielded the night before. "Any last words?"
She looked him in the eyes, gave him the most evil look anyone can give another human being, and said nothing.
My mind missed this altogether, I was more concerned with my change of sex than this.

For this very reason I'm concerned about the veracity of my scan results

Eh? Eww... no! Hayden Mathews is disguised as Michael Engels not Michaela (right edse? after all you created him as a man didn't you :P) I can't see how Hayden is disguised as Michael and as woman at same time, not only a cold blooded killer but transsexual too? :/

The Third Night
The sun had set on a long day... The twelve remaining survivors of the Mobilian outpost with at least one mole had spent most of the day discussing options for what they should do next. They couldn't stay here forever, they needed a home, possibly with other people. They wanted a normal life back, with real beds. Most of them in the turmoil of the attack had brought nothing with them, they were forced to sleep on makeshift beds on leaves and grass. Their clothes would eventually wear out and so would their bodies.
They gathered together before nightfall and determined that they had to do one of two things. They had to seek out those men that had let them live or they had to leave in search for a new home. Finding the men could mean possible assimilation into their settlement, more protection and productivity. However they could just as easily kill them all...
Or they could leave, seek out new and untapped resources. Flee further and further from the Praters and never look back.
They would decide the next day...
Night fell and shifts were taken, nearer to sunrise this time Michael and his sidekick had the watch. "You know that guy, Dorian?" Michael whispered to his fellow watchman. "No, but he's always got that bottle of spirits on him. It's a wonder he's still got some." Michael exposed his blade and a darkness crept over his face. He lightly made his way to Dorian Morris (Chief Pappy) and saw the scraggly man. He saw into Dorian's soul, a troubled one. One scarred long before the Fall. He bent down, hovered his hand over his mouth in case he woke up, and quickly drove his knife in between his spine and his skull. The blow severed his spinal cord and immediately his breathing stopped.
Michael came back to his post, cleaned his knife and hid it among the rocks. "You're doing the next one." He said, in a cold sadistic joking kind of way.
Explanation:
During this Day Phase, you will be required to both vote for the mafia AND for your next step. The options are...
1) "Seek Out" - You agree to looking for the men who sought you out in the beginning and try to convince them to let you live with them.
2) "Leave" - You agree to fleeing this place, leaving it all behind in search of an even newer life.
3) "Stay" - You agree to staying where you are and taking on whatever challenge awaits you (I have to admit, this wasn't an option at first, but free will is good)
One of these options will end well, two of them will not. This has been predetermined, so vote wisely. I will be reading into the reasons for why you all think a certain path should be taken between "Seeking Out", "Leaving", and "Staying". If multiple players have excellent logical explanations for why they chose that certain direction, it COULD affect the outcome of the game in a POSITIVE way. So explaining yourself, defending yourself, discussion the options, pros and cons, etc can ONLY help you.
So you will say, "Vote:Zain;Vote:Leave". If you wish to change one vote, PLEASE include the other too, for instance I change my mind to option 1, I still say "Vote:Zain;Vote:Seek Out"
Ending tomorrow night at 9:00pm (GMT-6)

Duh! To prove my point I need to resurrect ferret to see if he start killing... Also I subtle pointed to the fact I was getting protected tonight and my scan was coming tomorrow, for those who did read the previous game or played it, DF was an odd night scanner and protector, I hoped for the mafia to pay attention to this and don't waste a kill on me, when in fact I was unprotected and scanning :P

Honestly I hope there is at least one other scanner who can compare results, or IK result at least!
As a hunch? I would clear Ishmael, I'm getting same vibes I had with him in the previous game, but of course I was dead there, a minor factor that can affect perception I think.
At this moment, my gut feeling tells me is rickinator, he is flying really low since the tie/no tie with autolycus.
Other thing, I accept my departure to the grave, it is a very logic thing to do! But I believe we need to think a bit better the other decision!
Maybe there is a 50% chance the scan is accurate. The Host flips a coin and, say "heads" he tells the scanner the truth or "tails" he tells the scanner the individual being scanned is guilty regardless of the truth, guilty or not guilty. Paranoid much? Maybe something like that is occurring, but I think voting for the cop is wasted, and probably listening to him too...
I'm in favor of leaving because we don't know what we are getting into if we mesh with another group, there could be more scum amongst them. Dangerous people seem to always live longer in end of the world situations. We don't know what we are getting into when we join them. My PM says I'm a four months pregnant, travel isn't ideal but I've got to protect the baby... and find some peaches, craving peaches....

Do you think, staying in the cave full of philosophers who don't clean their own waste is a smart move? Considering our dear host admitted the option of staying was added later, together with the statement of one option been predetermined I must say, staying is not an option, its full of dead bodies, they stink!
In the same thinking line, leaving without a course of action is just as foolish as staying, or do you think Michael and company would stay in the cave?
The course of action, IMHO is to seek out those strangers who let us live! In their land! Of course, I still think those people will use our answers from the first questions against us in some wicked way only our host knows.
Btw, nobody thinks just for a moment, my two results were right and I am very but very lucky detective choosing targets? There is a really small possibility that is the case... I don't know!
So for the time being I will vote: rickinator and vote: seek out

The twelve remaining survivors of the Mobilian outpost with at least one mole....
Night fell and shifts were taken, nearer to sunrise this time Michael and his sidekick had the watch.
This leapt out at me for some reason. I find it interesting that 'at least one mole' was mentioned, but then it was confirmed that there are at least two. I can't draw any particularly useful conclusions from this, but it worries me that Zain is setting us up for some nasty twist.
Anyway, on to business. Riedquat to me seems as townie as it gets. It would be an crazy scum move to fake not just one but several scan results this early in the game, especially seeing as it's mostly confirmed whether a person is scum in the subsequent write-ups. Sure he could be playing the WIFOM angle, but that seems a bit too reckless. Makrell is on my list since bulletproof townies make me nervous on principle, but I don't want to lynch him just for that, and he doesn't seem to be acting too scummily.
For want of anything better, I'll vote Lux. For a combination of a sliding under the radar a bit, slipping her vote in to her post without any justification, and a hunch on my part. It's not ideal, but I don't think any of the other proposals are any better.
As for the action we take, I think we can rule out 'Stay,' since our host freely admits that the good choice was preordained and that this wasn't originally a choice. 'Seek Out' doesn't sit right with me - those men never struck me as particularly nice, and I can see us all being treated as second class citizens and/or slaves. Therefore, onwards, to greener pastures! Perhaps we'll find some more settled people willing to take us in on equal terms.

Try it out tomorrow. If you get a guilty result AGAIN, we will know he is most likely not guilty.
Actually, we don't know anything before he gets, if ever, an innocent scan. Riedquat is probably not scum anyhow, only useless.
My personal opinion is that we should try to find the other group. They let us go after all, hardly they would suddenly kill us if we show up with only good intentions.

Best way would be make the edse's move and scan myself twice, but of course, I need to survive two more days with wasted night actions, good for my survival and perhaps for the scum, me being a distraction and all, but for town?

Well, what are the odds of scanning three scums in a row.
Supposing there are three scumbags (which is already a rather high number in a 14 person game):
First one has a chance of 3 out of 13
Second one has a chance of 3 out of 13 times 2 out of 11 (assuming ferret was guilty) which equals 6 out of 130 which is roughly 4 percent
Third one would be 6 out of 130 times 1 out of 8 (supposing Ibn-Khaldun was guilty and we don't lynch him, which seems to be the case) which equals 6 out of 1040=0,5 percent chance
SO I find that to be unlikely
DISCLAIMER: I might have broke every single rule about doing math with chances.
Given that these strangers casually threatened to kill us all just for being on their 'territory,' I must admit I'm not quite getting this vibe that they'll welcome us with open arms.
I agree with ishmael, i dont think they are friendly. And neither is Michael, i dont like our leader, but i think that these philosophers might not either. I say we stay, and send michael to talk to them, get a more permanent truce.
As n per the stay is an illegitimate option because it was added later, im pretty sure he did a random.org or something.
Yeah, we are lucky these guys didn't kill us the first time. What's to say we'll be as lucky again? Besides didn't they say they would kill us if we bothered them? vote: leave and hope for greener pastures is the only real option here.
We cant just leave, we dont know were to go, unless i see a better prospect somewhere else i will not leave.
I would rather leave the group and go to the philosophers, they atleast have a decent something. and doesnt have any killers.

Was not the write-up pretty clear? "Night fell and shifts were taken, nearer to sunrise this time Michael and his sidekick had the watch." And later in dialogue Michael said, "You're doing the next one."
Riedquat's scans are inaccurate and an innocent (Ferret) died because of that. We know this because both mafia are still alive. The possibility of 3 are slim at best.
His scans are either opposite in nature, or always guilty. Killing Ibn-Khaldun will prove one of two things.
1) He was innocent too, and a wasted lynch. (Riedquat's ability still not actually established)
2) He was actually guilty. (Riedquat's ability shown to always be guilty)

A possibility.

Other possibility but we already are here, somebody is killing us!
We need two things! protection and productivity! Again, being killed by those who gave us a chance or for those not giving us anything, except death and desperation.

Do the math DF! I want to laugh a bit! ;)
Do you feel/have anything else than my result on him to grant that vote? I am not so confident...
No, apart from the fact zain told us this fase is super-important (was my math really that bad? :shame:)

Noo! I'm being funny, acid like a green kumquat but funny! I enjoyed your maths DF, I really did! I just don't want we end lynching I-K with poor justification and to lynch myself tomorrow covered with my own dubious result.
I'm not really sure Ferret wasn't scum, that evil look directed at Michael was something, we don't know what exactly, but something! Now, I-K guilty too? I don't like my own result, I never in my 42 years have been so lucky, it is possible both scans were right? yes, is it probable? I've doubts!

Allow me...
We started with 14 players, one was lynched. Down to 13. We believe there are (3?) scums, even though it seems highly unlikely. We'll go by those numbers.
First scan, Ferret. No kill. Scum, 3/12 (excluding the scanner). 25%
Ferret lynched, second scan on Ibn. 2/11. 18%. 5% combined.
Ibn lynched, random murder that night, odds of correct scan of final scum, 1/9. 11%. 0.5% combined.
0.5% - Is anybody THAT lucky?

Ok, I see, I was rather close (I had 4 and a bit under 0,5percent)
But you can have two right in a row. Unlikely but definitely possible. If you play 20 games, 1 would have a correct result (on average)
If it is 0,5 you would have to play 200 games.
So I will Unvote: I-K and lynch him if Riedquat gets an innocent result.
Yes, I made the

We came to the same answer using different methods, one of us may be incorrect in our logic, but with our answers so close, I'd say we are right.
I wish I wasn't dead :disappointed:

Do you really want to lynch an investigator now?

ay... yay..yayayyyy! Unvote, vote: abstain
Last time we started revealing things didn't end very well... but now we are here, I must ask who do you scanned so far?

If you are an investigator then we can make it so that both you and Riedquat investigate me tonight. I know that I am innocent. If Rie is always wrong then his result should be guilty while yours should be that I am innocent.

That would prove nothing, I wouldn't put it past the Host to have two faulty scanners in the same game. For what I read in Pratia II he thrives on confusion, the obvious answer is always the opposite of what you expect, etc etc...
Is there another choice though? If they're both faulty, but give the same or even different results, how do you interpret those results?
