First of all:
Great work so far! :2thumbsup:
I have a question though.
Is the concept of hero units like Tomoe Gozen or Hong Shue Fei (similar to the Kensai in S:TW) still part of the mod or has it been dropped? ( https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=41921 )
Thanks in advance.

Been working on siege weapons recently but have only been able to mod the rams so far. I can't seem to mod culture specific onagers/siege towers etc. yet.[/img]
Just fyi, this issue is solved in BI. Great job on all the units!

Anything else to post Hoggy?
Nothing new at the moment as I'm just back from holiday. Most of the work we've got left to do isn't too screenshot-worthy but we're getting there. In the meantime here are some shots from the a battle I was playing today:

Looks good, although the one thing I'd change is the interface for the units: the gold colour above the unit portraits clashes somewhat with the rest of the colours, and the unit portraits themselves look too small and unclear. Although, that last point may not be as much of a problem due to a smaller and more distinct unit roster than in most mods.
Have you changed something about the landscape? The colours look different, particularly the purple-hued grass.
Still looks promising!
Wonderful!
My gosh I can't wait much longer for this mod to come... It's to darn cool, intriguing and beautiful! Hoggy this mod is the single reason that I have bought me an ex of RTW (oh, well you may count in Jidai No Ran as well, seems to be a super-mod too).
Btw. Sykotyk Rampage, do you have any in game music or unit sound samples from the mod to tease us with? Would be nice to get a hint on that aspect of the game.

So I have a question, I am really looking forward to playing as the Deamon faction, but it seems that the faction may be extremely powerful ala Eqypt so if we play as Deamons on Hard setting can we expect a challange or will it still be quite easy!? ala egypt?

Just to reiterate;
The new colours in the landscape are indeed impressive, seductive in their colours even.
Could we possibly have some samples posted of the music and maybe some of the commands in the various tongues? A large part of STW's magic was its fascinating music. Please please let the various nation's music be a part of the marvels of this wonderful game.
Could you let us have a peek at the Event Announcement Cards? I'm very interested to get a general impression of how these will appear.
And I just read that Blue Lotus will be ready in Feb/March 2006!!!!
Hurray!:2thumbsup:
I haven't played TW at all since BI came out. There was no reason to until BL, EB and CTW were released....
The event images are mostly going to use period artworks from the various cultures. Sykotik Rampage has done a top job on the music using a variety of influences but I think it's best heard in context on release.
Here are the Indian bodyguard/Officers. I decided to redo these as the previous incarnation was just a reskin of other models. I'll be doing a standard bearer for the Indian faction too.

Yes indeed! Indian military matters are not covered nearly enough in games.
The mounted officer does seem a little to thin, though his footsoldier version is -BRILLIANT-. :D
India is going to be fantastic to play.
The indian faction looks great. But I can't wait to play as the chinese faction/factions. To command Cho ku no'repater crossbowmen is way too cool to be true. :2thumbsup:
Very well made, Hoggy, very well made. :2thumbsup:

Cmon CA, if you had him working for u full time, the coders would be left in the dust as all the models for your next games would be finished tommorow.

This looks to be an incredible game. I've never been part of any mod community, or even into many PC games in general, but the fact that this is fan-made blows my mind. Keep up the great work.
I wanted to ask about landscapes. I skimmed through the threads and didn't see any specific forum about them, so I apologize if this is old, but what kinds of levels will there be? I would love to see some locations a la "Goemon's Great Adventure on the N64, with Japanese (or Chinese, or Indian, or Thai etc.) architecture and ruins dotting the landscape. The red gateways, the mountain temples, the forest shrines all add to the feel of that game. I also love how GGA portrays the 'underworld" as a lush and ethereal bamboo forest with shrines and statues sitting between thick tree stumps. It would be great if you had a similar underworld location for the demons...of course there should also be more intimidating ones with fire and brimstone and such.

Hello hoggy where are you we want more screenshots to drool over please(or a open beta version:dizzy2: )
I know your mod is not supposed to be realism based or anything. But samurai like shoulder and arm pads and the Mongols have no connection. They would look fine without those gray pads.
Otherwise, loving it! Mongols FTW

Looking forward to playing this. Still looks stunning.
One question, are the terrain graphics going to get more of an overhaul in (possible) future releases? Right now the ground doesn't quite fit in with the buildings of the cities, and in particular the trees inside the cities don't look right compared to the rest.
Aside from that, nothing but praise for your work. The quality and originality is amazing.

Yes, that's right I have to make words up to describe the quality of this mod adequately.
Great Job !
What is the estimated size of the file to be downloaded?
Estimated size is 300 MB plus an 80 MB patch for music. Apologies to 56K modem users (like me) but it won't get much smaller.

I've almost totally lost interest in RTW, but I had to come back here to see what Hoggy had done with his magnificent mod. I'm going to wait until it goes gold before I play it ( I don't want to have anything spoiling my fun with it) but even to reach Beta...what a wonderful occasion. Congratulations to Hoggy and all his band of modders on reaching open Beta. This is a great accomplishment. Bravo.

first of all congratulations for the best ever RTW mod and not just a mod but a unique creation.
Is there any news on the progress of ironing this great game? Can we hope for a bug free release any time soon?
BTW some features of 1.6 are very interesting as night battles and swimming it would be great to be incorporated in the game.
All hail hoggy and team
Yup, Familyguy is fixing the demon settlement ctd and bigbeef has been working on other minor bugs and on traits. How long it will take, I don't know. Hopefully not to long. about 1.6, we're not thinking that far ahead (yet) first a stable and better worked out 1.5 version. Then we'll see what the future will bring.

If you had been here since the first concept drawings that Hoggy put up, you'd realize that the Campaign map is not meant to be realistic; it's a map and a game that represents what people in the olden days would have in their minds...a map of disproportionate distances and areas, filled with fantastical warriors of unimaginable splendour or fearsomeness, a map populated on it's most remote regions with demons, monsters, and ghosts...

Blank to all:balloon2: :balloon2: !! First of all I would want to make compliments to the authors for this large one mod~:thumb: !! it is simply fantastic:bounce: :bounce: !! best.
I want to signal a problem that I have found and that is preventing me to end the campaign. :help: :help:
I'm playing at very hard level with the Chinese (I'm at 35°turn) but when I besiege whichever Yomi's city the game collapses punctually:wall: :wall: The same thing happens if I make double click on whichever yomi's city . I think that is a problem with the loading of the window of presentation of the yomi's city (but I don't know what can be done).
I hope that my signalling is of aid for the increase of Blue Lotus, and also that will be of aid to me to continue mine campaign. I'm waiting your answer good bye to all and thanks a lot again:hippie: .

i agree with Dragoon but wouldnt the bows be long bows?
They (Chinese and Mongols) used the "composite recurve" bow.
The Japanese used the Japanese long bow.
I believe hoggy's stated that he just uses what he thinks looks cool. ~:)
Here are the Chinese stone walls (ignore japanese buildings in background):
depends, much of Japanese architecture is heavily influenced by Tang Dynasty architechture. The city of Kyoto, for example, was built as a model of the Tang capital of Xi'an.
Btw, why does all the Chinese buildings look like they have roofs layered with gold? The golden roof and the orange wall hue looks funky... :(
So in terms of siege equipment is there going to be anything else to look forward too ?
i.e. The Romans had a ' Scorpion ' and Ballistea etc...
They could have seige crossbows (triple pulley crossbow), trebuchets (traction seige and anti-personel) etc :D

Awesome models, especially the heavy cavalry. :)
This Korean soldier reminds me of a Song Dynasty soldier:

I am terribly sorry for bringing this up, Dragoon, but I can't bear to read this. It has been proven that the myth of stirups was invented by westernophile historians; actually the stir ups have (and had) almost no effect on the lance impact, but rather allowed horse archers to be more accurate and agile. There are a few websites on the web that deal with this and have provided good proof by jousting exercises. Also I'm sure you'll find this been brought up earlier on the TW forums. One should keep in mind that there is no apparent reason to assume that the Macedonian shock cavalry weren't effective, not for the Parthian cataphracts, not for Carolingian knights; quite the opposite. I'm no Mongolian expert, but I think it's reasonable to assume that the reason they didn't use lances is the one you've stated literally (tactics) rather than it being impossible.
Stirrups are very important. Stirrups allowed a rider to wear heavy armor on horseback so they didn't fall off.
The Parthian cataphracts had to tie the riders onto the horses with ropes, severly reducing their effectiveness. The stirrup allowed European knights to wear heavy chainmail and plate armor and still stay on the horse.
by the way, I've read the Entire thread up to this point, all 39 pages of it... >_<
Ah. Just to mention it: Some of the Screenshots are outdated by now.
With all those monster :vulcan: the game play must be very different. I really like the athmosphere of your mod, it's simply another game.:viking:
