New Mario for the Wii-U is amazing, best 2D platformer since, well I dunno. It's stunning to look at and you do things without really thinking about what you are doing, amazing flow. It's pretty damn hard but an absolute joy. Good to be back. Well done Nintendo this is why I love you.

Edit, yep the jury is out, this is my game of the year, several ones. New Super Mario Wii-u is kinda perfection, it's huge, controls brilliantly, and the level-design and art never lets down. Getting Super Luigi Wii-u as well is a nobrainer.

10/10

Nintendo is like Valve in many ways, or the other way around, the obsesive perfectionism is obvious. That's why we love them. (Sorry@Naughty Dog, tthe Uncharted games are fantastic, so is The Last of Us)

Even more and more and more Mario Bros for the Wii-u, it just keeps giving. Don't tell it to lynchmobs but this is the best Mario ever. It looks fantastic with it's beautifull animations, sometimes four or even five 2d backgrounds are moving at once, movement is incredibly precise, and it's packed with content you don't immediatly notice. Awesome.

Legend of Zelda HD, WOW. This is simply incredible. Really loving that Wii-u, can I have a new Metroid please Nintendo, Metroid Prime sucked. And I simply NEED a new waverace. PS4, your on hold

Edit: ouch! No I meant Metroid Prime 3 sucked, the first two are fantastic

LE GASP.

Wind Waker HD is great, yes.

But Metroid Prime was also great, one of the best games on the GameCube. The reason they haven't made a new Metroid game yet is because Other M couldn't top the Prime series and they don't know what can. If anything could use some HD love, it is the Prime series, but they've already done the Wii remake collection so it's unlikely.

In the third dungeon, this sure is the prettiest game I ever played. The graphics are incredible but the artwork is incredible as well, all these nice little touches makes everything sing, it's just perfect. In the forbidden fortress you have this haze of sea-air, in the fire-dungeon you can see the heat warping your vision. Incredible attention to detail allover.

Zombi-u, really really good game, real survival horror. Which means you don't survive. Infested London is a great place to explore. Love the greenish filter, the awesome lighting, and terrifying sound effects. Pure terror. That little beauty certainly has the power to do amazing graphics and sound.

Good! I don't know how much hours I put into it but it's one of my favourite games of this gen. Apart from some choppy framerates in some area's and some very cheap deaths (hard but fair my :daisy: you can just hear the roaring laughter of the developers all the way from Japan) it's awesome.

Heh, the funny part is that you can cheat on the game as well. My favorite has to be tricking the first real boss (Taurus Demon) into killing itself.

In between a very busy work schedule, I've been playing Dishonored GOTY, which I picked up on Amazon for around £13.

I really like how there's so many different approaches with all the powers and equipment you unlock; I just completed my first playthrough as a bloodthirsty so-and-so, blinking around and turning guys into ash on death.

It's a bargain and I can't believe it took me so long to pick this one up. Heck, I'm not really sure which games I was playing in late 2012, but this really should have been on the list. Definitely recommended to anyone late on the bus like me! :3

Dishonored is excellent. I always go for non-lethal because it's coolest if they never knew you where there. Dishonored catered the rabid Thief fanboy that I am in spades.

Currently in love with Resident Evil:Revelations. It's really fun, better than Resident Evil 4 and anything that came afterwards. The graphics are pretty bad at times, especially in cutscenes it looks like a ps2 game, but sometimes it's also pretty goodlooking. The atmosphere is great and I don't care about graphics all that much anyway.

Haha, I moved on from mindless DM style gaming as soon as CTF caught on in Quake. What was that now, 20 years ago... I've not looked back.

Compare COD MP w/ even a 15 year old well made objective based MP game like Return to Castle Wolfenstien: Enemy Territory, or even compare it to TF2 (or gasp, even BF4).

The difference is so dramatic it's hard for those familiar with MP not to draw derogatory conclusions about who plays COD.

Ok, back on topic, I'll stop dogging COD, no challenge there anyway.

Playing Outlast, only 30 minutes in and I'm already freaked out.

I've gotten hung up again playing FX2 pinball. I mean sheesh, when you offer me tables for like a dollar every time there's a sale I just can't stop myself.

Playing CIG naturally, I tried starting as the Suebi like 3 times and got slaughtered, every tribe around me came after me and I could not grab provinces in such a way that I could establish a front, it went badly, over and over. So I switched to the one that starts at the top of the map, and that campaign is going quite well.

And finally, I picked up Out of the Park Baseball 14. After 20 hours I can safely say I've no idea what I'm doing, clearly this excel spreadsheet masquerading as a game concept is so far beyond my depth of knowledge on baseball I'm forever out of my league (pun intended).

Carry on and happy holidays!

I was in the top 10 players with Rogue Spear pistols-only on world-ladders, even ranked #2 for a (short) while, our clan beat teams who were actually sponsored, so I am not all that new to multiplayer. Granted, most players moved on to Rainbow Six 3 by then but that game never clicked with me.

I wish Nintendo got their act together with the eShop (http://kotaku.com/nintendo-online-services-broken-now-continuing-christm-1489822952) thing, it is a major disappointment. Many people with Wii-U's, Wii's, 3ds, etc all completely left out in the dark.

"But it is Xmas! People are flooding our servers even though people regularly come on our servers when they simply switch their consoles on!"
or the even more ill-fated "Just wait for the traffic to die down"

People are constantly trying to get on, and since it isn't working, they are not getting what they need, therefore, the traffic cannot 'die down' unless people throw their consoles out of the window in frustration.

Edit: After 72 hours, Nintendo finally got their act together!

Just a part of their master plan, the goal being to see how quickly they can go out of business. A master stroke in the pursuit of that plan landed earlier this year when they decided to not even try and compete in the next gen console battle. Yhatzee's take on it summarized it rather nicely: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/7417-Next-Gen-Buyers-Guide.

Wii-U is great, but there are some huge annoyances. The menu is slow, and there seems to be no way to shut off mii-verse integration. That is especially annoying in Super Mario Bros, each time you run out of life you have to go through multiple screens asking you the same questions, since the menu is so slow that is infuriating.

Had to check out what all the hoopla is even despite the fact that I'm pretty sure I don't like this game. At 3 bucks I had to see why what looks like nothing special has practically become part of the gaming culture.

I mean just take a look at all of this coverage: http://www.polygon.com/game/spelunky/2260

Tried that but it didn't work. It wouldn't be so annoying if the menu wasn't so painfully slow. Have you noticed that the menu seems to need more processing power than the games? The thing is completily silent (which I absolutily adore about it) when running a game, but in the menu you start hearing it.

It's been out forever, so you should be able to get it dirt cheap. And it's a fantastic open-world superhero (or villian) game.

I just finished ZombiU on the WiiU yesterday. It's an awesome game, but the difficulty near the end just got kind of sadistic. Especially the final mission where if die... the game just ends. Which I did. :bigcry:

Very cool game- and it came in just under 20hrs for my first playthru. Pretty decent for the low price I paid for it. The mechanic where when your survivor dies, they're gone for good (to be replaced by another poor schlub) really works to ratchet up the tension. I remember at one point, I was playing a survivor named Ann, who was a credit auditor or some such... I had played her for almost a quarter of my entire gameplay time, killing over 120 infected and leveling up many different weapons skills. She was slogging thru a sewer under the Tower of London and an infected with a mask and gas canister on its back came at me. Instinctively I swung my cricket bat, hitting the tank and.... *KABOOM*, she was dead and I was speechless. At least she didn't have the suffer the indignity of returning as a zombie, like the other survivors who died, since it was the explosion killer her. :sweatdrop:

Keeping with the zombie theme, I'm going to play State of Decay next, which I picked up on sale on Steam.

ZombiU is awesome, the bad reviews it got are way off, they simply don't understand it's a survival horror game, not a shooter. The odds are always against you and you die a lot. I love that greenish filter that screams DISEASED, and the lighting effects are incredible.

Resident Evil: Revelations is also cheap by now by the way, if you need a new horror fix get it, it's awesome. It isn't really scary, but a whole lot of fun.

The Miiverse integration has its own settings for each game that you play. At least for New Super Mario Bros. U and Super Mario 3D World, you can shut it off completely in the settings for those games. I've done it myself. Also if you really can't stand it, you can just disconnect the internet.

Can't do anything about the loading time on the menu screen though, that's the one true downfall of the console, besides lack of games.

Lack of games for now, but the new gen has a much more severe lack of games, while that old black boss PS3 has them in spades. The Wii-U is a very nice addition, it has some very good games and can play everything the Wii had. No games? An absolute wealth of games.

How did you turn that pesky wii-verse integration off? Even the guys at the nintendo helpline didn't know. Shutting it of in parental controls didn't work, even shutting down wifi didn't.

Deus Ex:human revolution, it looks a LOT better on the Wii-U than it did on the PS3, animations are still kinda off but it looks really sharp. It isn't as good as previous Deus Ex games (yeah that includes Invisible War, I actually like that game, such a bleak setting) but it's still better than most games. The Wii-u controller is a perfect match for the interface.

Here's how you do it for Super Mario 3D World:

1. Open up the game, select your file, start the game and everything
2. Pause the game.
3. Click the orange 'n' (Nintendo Network symbol)
4. Set the Miiverse and/or Ghost Miis to off.

Pretty sure it's something similar for other games.

Yay, finished ZombiU on normal. Chicken-mode was allready hard. The game is not perfect, it's very annoying that you can't reverse your y-axis when scanning, as you are scanning a lot. Touchscreen is also uncomfortabe, it's just too big for certain actions. But despite these annoyances it's still great. A survival horror game that is actually scary and actually about survival, wut? Great atmosphere, great graphics (best lighting effects I have ever seen), punishing difficulty. An underapreciated little gem, if you got a WiiU, get it.

I find myself disengaged from Edward for most of the game, he's a nice character but just doesn't capture me in the same way that Ezio did, though I do think the plot is stronger than Assassin's Creed III. I find myself preferring to sail the seas wreaking havoc on the Spanish and trying my luck against sharks rather than follow the storyline.

I also started up some FIFA 14 after grabbing it for a good price. I found the previous one way too unrealistic but this seems to be an improvement. I am also playing Beyond: Two Souls, a game I've been excited for for quite a long time. I grabbed a copy of The Secret World (http://www.thesecretworld.com/) MMO for myself and one for my wife @ $10/each. I've had my eye on it for awhile because of its horror/Lovecraftian-type themes. It doesn't require a subscription- you add content episodically by purchasing "issues (http://www.thesecretworld.com/updates/)". It seemed like a good MMO business model for someone, like me, whose gaming time can be pretty limited.

So far, it plays almost like a single-player game with plenty of voice acting and cutscenes. I'm digging the ambiance so far. I made an Illuminati character who is investigating the goings on in the fictional Maine island town of Kingsmouth (http://www.kingsmouth.com/). Apparently a black fog came in from the sea and now the town is plagued by the undead.... and worse.

One complaint based on my limited play is that there really doesn't seem to be too much difference between the 3 factions- Illuminati, Templars, or the Dragon. Your starting city, your base and some of your initial dialogs are different- but from their you seem to proceed along the exact same path regardless of your faction- same cutscenes, same quests ect. It could be that things branch out more as you play, but I haven't seen it yet...

Regardless, for $10, I'm getting my money's worth out of it.

The second one is by far the best in the whole series. The main character, the setting, the plot... all of it is just better than any of the other games. Stick with it!

As for The Stanley Parable... it is just amazing. So deep and philosophical while still being incredibly funny at times.

The original AC, after a while, devolved into completing take exact same side missions just so you could progress the story. AC2 felt a bit samey, but the general mechanics were tightened up and the plot/characters were far more likable.

Brotherhood and Revelations are also both excellent. I had a blast with the bombing missions and building up my own Order in Brotherhood, though I seriously WTF'ed when they introduced tower defense in Revelations. The "cinematic" feel to Revelations was also very well done.

AC3 was garbage. Sadly, the only good things about the game were the character interactions with Haytham and the naval battles. The ending was enough to completely turn me off from the entire series. The fact I had to spend the majority of the game as a whiny little :flower: without even a hint of stealth or subtlety in the game mechanics didn't help either.

And I can't stop playing Medieval 2, don't ask me why, I think it's just the time period and units of this period really work for a TW game. I've become rather disenchanted though with CA's insistence on "patching" the game to make it so MP continued w/ the end of gamespy because in the process they've broken a number of things, only some of which at this point they've fixed or even acknowledged. Thank god it's still possible to pick this up on Amazon as a retail copy, which is exactly what I did just so I didn't have to put up w/ them continuing to break it or failing to fix it.

Hello? Anyone here?

Playing slowly through Divinity Original Sin again with different classes. And I'm playing a campaign in the newest R2, pretty much instantly in a civil war with the other pieces of Rome, as expected. Oh, and playing yet another campaign in MTW2, this time as the French. Married off not one but two princesses to the HRE (wonder if that actually does make that diplomatic bond stronger).

Played about 40 hours of Skyrim then my fickle attention was grabbed by Dark Souls 2 and I never went back.

Now I'm playing Arkham City and like it pretty much the same as Frags. (eg. "Yay I'm Batman!")

Two times exactly right. Dark Souls is incredibly awesome. Demon's Souls is better imho but that's just a matter of taste, the world shifting really opens up the game. Alas, both REALLY good games.

Batman game is incredible as well, but combat is sooooo dull

Mario Kart 8 is pretty damn amazing. Sorry Sony you made the ps3 so good that it's going to take a while before buying a ps4 makes any sense, or not buying a cheap pc instead which is just as good an idea as a very modest pc will easily outperform the ps4 and xbox1. Enter the WiiU, which has a dizzying amount of great games.

More zombU, such a great game, a shame we will never see a sequal as it's a masterclass in survival horror. So underapreciated in the reviews. And fire the guy who thought the box-art was a good idea please because it screams malware. It isn't, it has some really good mechanics and stunning graphics, best particle effects ever made, and sound to die for so to say. Death is sudden and brutal as it should be. If you play really carefully you can keep your characters alive, but the game loves to assault you. You will die, a lot. Consequence of dying is brilliant, you become a zombie yourselve and your next character gets to loot it.

I got Endless Legend on a Steam sale- fantastic game. My first playthru was as the Broken Lords (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QShlOWkvp1I), who are a race of humanoids who have over time become little more than spirits bound to their magical armor. As such, they have no use for the food resource and use "Dust" to grow their cities and heal their armies.
It's fascinating how almost every race bends the basic economic rules of the game to fit their characteristics.

My main rival for dominance ended up, appropriately, being the Necrophages- a race of insects intent on extinguishing all other life on the planet. There were some epic back and forth wars- including one particular memorable war when my main army was fighting their forces overseas and they went all Scipio Africanus on me and attacked me on my mainland with a large army. They laid siege to a city and tried several assaults to try to wrest it from me while I frantically scraped together relief forces.

By end game, I won by constructing a wonder, but it's safe to say we were also militarily dominant...

To me, this game seems like what Elemental tried to be, but fell short.

My two big guilty pleasures lately are Endless Space, a pretty solid 4x space game that was fairly bland on launch but has since gained a lot of character and content via free patches and one relatively cheap expansion; and Dungeon of the Endless which is a little rogue-like I picked up on sale not expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised--this is one of the best little rogue-likes I've played, and if you like games like FTL, or Sword of the Stars: The Pit, or (presumably, though I haven't played it) Don't Starve then you'll probably like Dungeon of the Endless.

I considered getting Endless Legend to round out the collection, but that one looks like it'll require a good block of free time set aside. By most accounts, though, its the best of the three.

It's currently the second highest rated WiiU game on Metacritic. And based on my short time playing, probably deserves it.

Also on the 3DS front, I've been pretty well addicted to Shin Megami Tensei 4. If you've already played and enjoyed SMT games, you probably own this already. Anyway, I'm still not convinced that strategy is even possible in real time, and I'm pretty certain some of the later parts of the campaign will not be something I'll be able to clear, but I got to say, setting up skirmishes and playing against the AI is fantastic fun. It's tense and edgy the whole time and makes for a very fluid front line. Good stuff.

I doubt COH2 will prove to be as impressive, at least judging from the reviews that just destroyed it (and I got to say, I'm predisposed to hate COH2 because of the 18 pages of bullshit DLC they released for it), but hey, it came with the bundle so we'll see.

I played the beta of CoH 2 and didn't like it at all. It went far more (too far) towards stone, paper, scissors for my taste. Tanks did hardly any damage to anything, I had a Panther shoot at an IS and vice versa for literally minutes, doing hardly any damage per shot. I'm not sure whether that was a beta problem but it felt pretty "meh" overall.

If you like variety, you might like the eastern front mod or the Blitzkrieg mod for CoH, you can find them here:
http://www.easternfront.org
http://www.moddb.com/mods/blitzkrieg

Didn't play them in a while, eastern front seems more ambitious and tries to change the setting a lot (also stopped working for me after a while sadly) while Blitzkrieg seemed more polished and adds units and variety to the existing factions. Had a lot of fun with the latter but the former was also interesting to try.

Injustice, basicly Mortal Combat set in the DC-universe. It's a really good fighting game with an impressive roster of characters that really all got their own style. That is incredibly impressive because big two, Street Fighter and Mortal Combat just have to refine what's already there. The story-mode is good as well,a fighting with a story huh.

Batman seems to be the easiiest to pick up for sure.

I'm not playing anything really, my gaming computer is pretty much dead, it will boot then restart or bluescreen at some point and then it will be hard to boot again at all unless I let it sit off and idle for a night. I assume the mainboard is broken and I'm not in a mood to replace anything because I plan a semester abroad and the thing is relatively old anyway.
My Ultrabook can actually run some games with its Intel HD 4000 but the quality of the graphics will lower the appeal unless we're talking older 2D games. I played some American Conquest and AoE 2 HD on it and those games are still fun. It even runs Train Fever relatively well without AntiAliasing but I'm not sure I should burden it that much, it's also >2 years old and I hope it will last until I come back from abroad at least. Endless Space is ok, not too great. I got a solid 15 hours in the game before I got bored. Its a nice game but lacks the character that Endless Legend does. Also battles are tedious, much more so than Endless Legend since battles are capped at 12 ships per side and you can have stacked units of a hundred units at a time, now imagine fighting each battle over and over, 12 units at a time.

How is AOW3? Looks interesting.

easytarget
05-12-2015, 03:17
Well, I'm betting I'll get my money's worth from the bundle, and no doubt have the same experience you did, liking one or two among the three way more than the others, I'm prepared for that.

As for AOW3, it's right up my alley man, it's a very well done HOMM crossed with Civ 5 (only I considered Civ 5 so insanely boring I played maybe two full campaigns and removed it from my HD so don't think of this as a mixture that took the bad parts of Civ 5, like the combat, and mixed it in, just think of it more as the way the layout of the map is presented only in a fantasy setting, hence the HOMM connection). The combat zooms into turn based, and any given stack only has 6 units, but you can often have 3 or 4 stacks going up against 3 or 4 stacks like in a siege for example.

The random map generator allows you to tweak the campaign settings so well that you can getting it fine tuned to what you like to play or mix it up for something new. I've played 88 hours in a couple weeks, that was playing through about 4 complete campaigns, mostly on medium and large maps.

Your mileage may vary of course, but I'm enjoying the hell of it such that for first half of the year this is definitely my GOTY.

AOW3 looks pretty interesting, maybe I will pick it up during the summer sale.

Anyways, a more in-depth look at Endless Legend:

The AI is kinda hit and miss. Sometimes it will do something great, other times something really really dumb. Again, the graphics are gorgeous and the map is a pleasure to look at and just take in how rich everything looks. There could be more factions, thats always a good thing, but I guess we will get more factions eventually, its still a relatively new game. The game desperately needs a better tutorial/documentation. Its pretty abysmal right now, and most of the things Ive learned came from the subreddit for it or the user-made wiki. Battles are interesting. Entertaining at first but at a certain point they can get kind of tedious. A big thing it suffers from that once you get the initial upper hand, its very hard to lose it. Basically whoever comes in with the better stats will almost always win. Dont get me wrong, I still think its overall better than the Civ 5 combat but it still needs work, especially since the AI seems almost paralyzed once it loses its first few units in battle. Maybe if units could move more than a few tiles in battle, they would actually be able to get across the battlefield before I cut them down at range with my bowmen, which can get insanely powerful. Victory conditions and quests could be better defined, some of them are kind of ambiguous. The game can get kind of frustrating at times, but when I stuck with it I was rewarded with a really great experience.

Overall, I would give it an 8/10.

easytarget
05-12-2015, 15:22
Thanks for the greater detail, I look forward to playing it. I picked up the bundle knowing it might be a little hit or miss, so I'm OK with that. It sounds like your experience is still encouraging enough to make it qualify as worthy of a run through.

I think you'll like the victory conditions in AOW3, the DLC added a couple that are too hard to describe, but suffice to say they make it so you don't end up in a siege of the last hold out city scenario, they are really quite intelligent additions. And I've had a great experience playing both with and without teams, it's nice having them because your AI teammate will not abandon you (unless of course you do stuff intentionally to cause them to), alliance systems in games often don't function all that well, this is sort of a nod in that direction making it possible for the player to create campaigns where they do.

So, have you played either of the other two endless games?

Hooahguy

Next up Endless Legend (currently installing), hopefully it and Endless Space prove more my style. Starting to suspect this dev house might be leaning in the direction of artificially stupid difficulty, we'll see. I'll be happy even if I bounce off two of the three as long as one of them sticks...

I turned off things like wonder, science and money or whatever victory in Endless Space. The AI can be beaten in battles even though it likes to use stupid zergling fleets. I'd say however that it is not very good at actually designing ships, I once fought an Amoeba AI that put only defenses onto all of its ships, they were really hard to kill until I teched up my weapons more and even then took a bit but it was almost impossible to lose as they would almost never fire a shot back... My current game is on Easy and I seem to be able to win it. I did however create my own Space Germans which get +30% tonnage and +40% hitpoints for their ships or something like that, especially the extra tonnage helps a ton (pun intended). Oh and having a system with a whole lot of industrial output. What I haven't used yet though are the terraforming abilities which seem to turn planets into different planet types. Turning all or many of your planets into gas giants to specialize systems seems a bit like a lame cheat if that is actually possible.

So, just finished yet another immensely enjoyable AOW3 campaign and I've decided it's time to check out Endless Legend, as I mentioned above I immeidatley bounced off Dungeon of the Endless, doubt I'll ever go back. But first hour of so in Endless Legend has been fun, played the tutorial and started a campaign, not much clue what I'm doing but I'll troop along sorting it out as a I got, has a bit of Civ 5 and AOW3 feel about it, I love the way it looks, but got to say the UI is not intuitive as AOW3's (just about everything you do requires you to try and figure out how to do it).

Hopefully the uniqueness of each race really plays out in the campaign, that alone would make it enjoyable from my perspective.

I'm currently doing a replay of Fallout 3 (coinciding with the F4 announcement) with the FWE mod. That mod does wonders for the game. It's much harder. Levelling is slower, less boni, combat is short and lethal - a bunch of raiders is no longer XP on legs -, supplies are scarce. Great mod.

Well right now they're probably going to stop closed and start open beta soon so you can see for yourself "soon" but its alright. Just like World of Tanks I assume (which I have not played)

You start at a basic level ship and gain exp in matches, either coop or pvp. Gain exp and money and work your way up to better ships and mods. I'll post some screenies later.

The modding community is small but somewhat prolific. Plenty of added weapons and armor plus missions and I think there are even campaigns as well. I have about five hours in the game so far and still so much more to do. A quick run through of a mission can take anywhere between five minutes and a half hour for the sole reason that I keep going back to get that perfect plan with no SWAT casualties and everything done in one fluid motion. When that happens its really a beautiful thing to see.

EDIT: Im counting 950 user-made missions and 160 equipment mods so theres plenty to work with in that regard. I just wish the sound mods would update to the newer weapons that the devs added.

Played through Bioshock Infinite and enjoyed it, though it did seem a bit short. I'll probably go through it again since I missed some bits. Overall I'd say it was an enjoyable experience. Not sure if the DLC is worth picking up or not, but if it's on sale I might give it a shot.

Also, got Civ V and the expansions and played a bit of that. I've completed one game as Korea and got a tourism victory. The social policies(?) were the only thing that got me. I wasn't really sure what I should got for and ended going all over the place. Ended up completing like 5-6 different trees. I'll probably up the difficulty and keep playing around with it for a while.

Castlevania: Dracula X, I never played this one before but I can fully understand why it wowed people in the SNES era, it is quite frankly gorgious to look at and it's incredibly smooth to play, not a hickup to be found, or at least noticed, incredibly responsive and that's needed because it's oldschool unforgiving, you die a lot even in the early stages it's kinda brutal

So I decided to replay the Swapper, it has no real replay value sadly but I love the atmosphere. It's also just the most gorgious looking 2D game on WiiU and PS4. The WiiU is the one to get if you have one, it looks and runs better and the WiiU controller is put to good use.

Playing the Breath of the Wild, it's asgood as you must have heard but it kinda lacks the Zelda-vibe, change isn't always for the better even if it's better. It really is but I kinda miss the vibe that makes Zelda games so fun with it's restrictions. The Windwaker remains the best Zelda-game for me, nothing is as glorious as the moment the game lets you loose after the first dungeons to let you map everything out, the overworld is just so much fun to explore because everything is so gorgious to look and listen at, setting sail never gets old with that sublime music kicking in. The artstyle remains perfect even after all these years, this gem aged so well. I wished I could apreciate Breath the Wild just as much as I really should because it's fantastic, but I can't really love it the same way

I picked up Soma (https://www.gog.com/game/soma) for $8 on sale last week on GOG.... and wow! ~

With a couple kids and a busy job, I have little time for gaming right now... but I'm making time for this. This is an excellent mind-:daisy: horror game. It's made by Frictional Games- the people who made Amnesia. To me, it's how a game like Bioshock should have been (I thought Bioshock was crap- this isn't) and others have compared it favorably to System Shock 2, a game which I, shamefully, haven't played so I can't comment much on the comparison.

I'll put the trailer here, which gives a good sense of how creepy it is without spoiling any of the philosophical/psychological elements of the game. If you look anything up about the game, please stay well clear of spoilers- there are some good plot elements that you really don't want ruined.

Krai Mira, a game overwhelmed by horrendous design flaws (like re-entering town areas, or robbing your companions, for unlimited loot and money), has one in particular that could have been game-breaking, but thankfully is only cringeworthy.

In one early quest, you can side with a character from Town A, or character from Town B. If you side with the latter, then return to the former, he will attack you immediately. If you lose this fight: game over, of course. If you win this fight: game over. You receive the message that this is a "key character" who cannot die.

Yet he attacks you if you talk to him, and combat is always a fight to the death.

So how do you get around this? You can continue to frequent the character's club, just don't talk to him.

I could never really get along with the series after Rogue Spear but played that to death(of others). You are forgiven if you get tired of pixel-art games I know I am, but there is actually a lot going on here, the effects are subtle but make the game really goodlooking, the game is actually running on Unreal 4 tech, the pixels aren't really pixels. It's a cool little puzzle/programming game where you play an alchemist in a fantasy world, employed by one of the great houses to manufacture substances by creating machines like this:

If you like WW2 RTS and haven't played Steel Division: Normandy 44 yet, you may want to have a look.

I liked CoH 1 a bit more than 2. Somehow part two has a lot of weirdness with lootboxes and somehow the unit dynamics aren't to my taste anymore. I also dislike the point capturing system a bit because it can be like whackamole, where you constantly run around.
Steel Division has this frontline system where the focus is less on keeping specified points. Steel Division 2 has some mix of frontline system with strategic points, but I can't say how good or bad that is yet.
Tried the Anno 1800 open beta tonight and liked it quite a bit so far (well, played ~1.5 hours, including finding settings that work). I haven't really played an Anno since 1404.

Open Beta on Steam?

Nah, you can/could preorder on Steam, but the game will be Epic-Store-exclusive upon release on Tuesday.
The Beta was on UPlay, but it ended on the 14th. Official release is the 16th, so Tuesday.
I liked the Beta, it felt a lot like Anno 1404 with some changes and improvements, but nothing that would make the game worse IMO.
So I bought and preloaded it.

I had a couple U-Points that were about to expire and got a 20% rebate coupon. Why buy a UbiSoft game on Steam or Epic if you need UPlay anyway and can get 20% off there if you've already played a few of their games (a coupon for 20% off is 100 U-Points or what they're called)? ~D

As Canada, the USA has about 100+ divisons loitering around the United States while I'm trying to fight in North Africa with some UK divisions. It's pointless. Unless you fight directly and you yourself open up bridgeheads and invasions, no chance of proper reinforcements.

Canada, with the DLCs included, has a developed tech tree which is quite nice. It allows you a certain style of play.

However, Canada cannot match in any way the industrial output, no matter how much you try, so you're stuck in an endless loop until the 1950's or until you get bored.

Mixed bag to be honest - it has a lot of revamped features, but the mix of modern-ish graphics and updated mechanics makes it to me (a huge AoE2 original fan) kind of iffy. It's just not my thing, I prefer the original by far. I only played about 5-6 hours of AoE2 DE but I have about 22-23 of AoE2 HD. And probably over 4-500 hours of the original.

HD version in this case, because I need it compatible with Windows 10.

I've been playing a significant amount of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2022) lately, for a good number of hours, and I want to rant a bit.

I intensely dislike SBMM. Skill Based Matchmaking, SBMM, esentially brings you together playing with players who are esentially the same skill level as you. In practice it sounds great, in reality, it breaks up games very often and every single time the lobby is switched, based on your internal rating (Elo rating). Very frustrating overall because it no longer feels like a game, it feels like an eSports competition. Which is a shame, because COD has advanced a lot in the weaponry category, allowing you to customise your weapons quite a lot now. Plus sounds and weapon feel is way more realistic. But man, that SBMM, super ultra annoying and frustrating to play.

And of course microtransactions everywhere.

I know, you can say that I shouldn't have bought it, but nostalgia was very powerful, seeing all of the original MW2 2009 maps in game. But gah, I really dislike SBMM.

Going a bit wild (and sideways) with Dirt Rally 2 right now, about 5 years since it was released, and it's very enjoyable. The Group B Turbo cars are impossible (how did they do it real life??!!) but on the lower power cars it's a great game. Realistic too.

Adding Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 on my list, waiting for my Collector's Edition.

Aaaand Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 has been received, and played, spectacular game, probably Game of the Year in 2025!

Added a bit of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, I barely played it when it was released, but such a great game. Reading books in a game is something I've never seen before. Reading actual books with 50+ pages.
