Hate to say this but I just don't think I can play this IH for a while yet. I've sorta lost a bit of interest and i've been doing other things that eat up time too. On top of that, the inevitable Christmas day will surely make me even less able to play this IH. Perhaps in another two or three weeks i'll be more up for it but at the moment i'm just not up for it. I plan to come back eventually but if my spot's taken I could hardly complain. The show must go on, after all.
In case I don't come back when i'm ready, thanks Kage for the great IH and Revolting Friendship for his steadfast loyalty

Since I have some severe form of compulsive-obsessive disorder, I personally feel that the only thing wrong with this IH is all the time between the updates. :laugh4:
Kage:
If someone is too much overdue with their orders, can't you just move ahead anyway? I mean if it's just like, two persons as in this case?
I agree with RevoltingFriendship, two people shouldn't be stopping the IH from progressing, if they're not doing anything this turn than it isn't our problem.

Chapter 10, Summer 1562
https://img299.imageshack.us/img299/8561/naga1pp6.jpg
War ravages the land with relentless fury. While Kyushu and Shikoku are relatively peacefull the main island of Japan, Honshu is facing wars both East and West.
One of the few major Daimyos that are not engaged in war, Shimazu Takahisa witnesses the completion of the first large scale Church in Japan, in his capital Kagoshima. From now on there is new sound in Kagoshima as the bells of the church will call upon the followers of the new faith in to mass each Sunday.
While the Shimazu might live in peace, the Otomo of Northern Kyushu are engaged heavily in war in Chugoku region in support of Mori and Ukita, against the forces of Amako and Yamana.
Otomo Sorin orders reinforcements from Kyushu under Otomo Yoshimune numbering 3000, together with the Otomo force in Bizen to be shipped to Bingo province in support of Mori Clan who ships 4000 Mori troops via sea, while the Daimyo of Mori, Motonari leads personally another contingent of 4000 trough Bingo. Together this force numbering almost 16000 men lays siege to Amako´s castle in Bingo, Taigashima on June, which is protected by 5000 Amako warriors.
Attack on Bingo is not the only attack ordered by Mori Motonari. Kikkawa Motoharu leads an attack from Iwami into with 9000 men and besieges the Amako capital Gassan Toda, which is defended by 5000 men.
Before the Mori summer offensive the Daimyo of Amako, Haruhisa decides to retire in favour of his son Yoshihisa, the retainers of the Amako understand Haruhisas decision as his health is getting worse each day, while he gives all his strength in support of his son. Haruhisa sensing that death is close, tries to end his life with honour by riding to Bingo and challenging Mori Motonari into duel, but his close retainers refuse to let his lord into certain death and talk young lord Yoshihisa to reject his fathers wish. While in all fronts, Amako armies stay in defensive stance, in July the Amakos plan reveals itself as the Mori provinces of Iwami and Aki are being systematically ravaged.
Amako´s strategy has been to avoid major battles and instead they have sent 12000 warriors in small groups to Mori domain and these groups are burning down and killing peasants without any mercy. The few thousand Mori garrisons cant do anything to protect the ravaging of their lands as the Amako groups avoid any open confrontation.
Yamana Toyosada and Ukita Naoie avoid full confrontation so the situation in Bizen and Mimasaka remain relatively calm with only few minor Skirmishes between Yamana and Ukita with their Mori allies.
In central Japan, Miyoshi Chokei accepts Kitabatake Tomonori´s plea for sanctuary. Miyoshi also strikes a deal with the Pirates controlling Awaji island and the Wakou leave the island in peace. Soon after Matsunaga Hisahide lands on the island with 1300 men and starts inspecting the damages done by the Wakou.
Other then that Miyoshi stands immovable as mountain and doesnt react in any way on the war on the surrounding lands.
Instead Chokei is pleased to see that a Buddhist temple has been erected in Settsu and also the repairs of Takeyama castle are finished and the old Hatakeyama capital is now functioning castle of Miyoshi Clan.
The war between Asakura together with Saito against Oda and Asai, turns brutal as each side tries to out manouver their opponents.
On June first Asakura Kagetaka gives order to assault Kiyosu, the Oda capital. While Shibata Katsuie fights ferociously with his 1000 men, the 20000 strong force of Asakura and Saito attack the castle from all sides, so while Shibata is able to create casualties to enemy his situation is hopeless.
As the allied army pushes the Oda from walls, others brake the gates of Kiyosu and soon Shibata and his remaining men are trapped in main Donjon.
Asakura Kagetaka orders a short rest for his assault troops, while his teppo and yumi troops pepper the main donjon with furious fire from all sides.
At around noon the war drums and conch shells of the allied army signal a general assault against the main donjon and after hour of fighting, Asakura Samurai presents the head of Shibata Katsuie who fought valiantly to the end to Asakura Kagetaka, meaning that Kiyosu has changed ownership. All 1000 defenders are slain and the allied army suffers about 3000 casualties in the assault.
While Asakura Kagetaka is successful in his assault, Asakura daimyo Yoshikage leads an army of 4000 men into Saito domain to help defend it would the enemy attack there. After reaching Mino province, Yoshikage finds out that he has made an grim error.
Oda Nobunaga, understanding the hopeless situation in Owari and after receiving intelligence information through Asai decides to bring the fight to enemy.
Nobunaga leads 9000 Oda troops, together little more then 3000 Asai warriors, straight to the heart of Echizen, the Asakura capital Ichijodani. The capital is garrisoned by only 1000 defenders and Nobunaga decides to return the favour of assaulting his capital to Asakura.
At the morning of 11th of June, Oda launches a full scale assault against Ichijodani. While the Oda and Asai missile troops cover the walls so Asakura forces are unable to return much fire at all, Oda and Asai start braking the gates of Ichijodani.
In this hopeless situation, the commander of the castle, Asakura Kageakira understanding what is about to happen sends a messenger to main Donjon, which is housing many of the Asakura family members, including the wife and infant children of the Asakura daimyo, telling that he cant hold the attackers and only thing remaining to do is to end their lives with their own hand while Kageakira will commit an suicide sally in order to buy time.
Soon the remaining defenders gather to the main gate of the castle and wait the morbid signal. As soon as Kageakira witnesses the first smoke and flames coming from the main tower, signaling the death of his lords family. He rushes out from the front gate, straight in the lap of Nobunaga, who annihilates his tiny force with relative ease. The casualty rate in this battle is about the same as in the assault against Kiyosu and the fact is that both Asakura and Oda capitals have been lost.
Asai daimyo sends 500 men from Ise to Shima and as there is nobody defending the province for Kitabatake, Asai takes over it without any casualties.
In Tokai coast Tokugawa Ieasy plans to go on offense, while inspecting the situation on Owari. He dispatches a small army of 2000 men to Southern Shinano to test the defenses of Takeda there, while moves out towards Owari with 5000 in order to help Oda if an opportunity raises.
On June second, while marching towards Owari he receives a message from Owari that Kiyosu has fallen, so Ieasy decides that there is nothing he can do and turns back home. A day after, while marching back to his capital Okazaki, Honda Tadakatsu who is leading the expeditionary force to Southern Shinano sends lot more disturbing message to his lord Ieasy.
Soon after crossing the border to Shinano, Tadakatsu starts receiving disturbing messages from his scouts. All roads towards Mikawa are filled with Imagawa, Takeda and Hojo troops as combined army about 25000 strong is marching towards Mikawa.
Honda has no other options then turning back and withdrawing while observing the enemy.
On June 8th the combined army under Takeda General Yamamoto Kansuke, crosses the border of Mikawa and stops for a little while, a glimmer of hope is witnessed among Tokugawa, as there are speculations that the army might change its path and march somewhere else.
Soon reports from scouts show that situation is far from it.
While the combined army rests and stays on defense on the Mikawa border area, Imagawa Yoshimoto, the daimyo of Imagawa clan has gathered his men and started marching towards Mikawa with 7500 men. On June 15th the two armies combine now under Yoshimoto, the army numbering over 30000 men marches to Okazaki and lays siege on the Tokugawa capital. Instead of offensive, Tokugawa finds himself surrounded inside his capital.
After receiving the news of large army departing from Central Shinano, The Dragon of Echigo, Uesugi Kenshin orders his army of 20000 men to march into central Shinano to find out the strength of enemy there.
On July 2nd Kenshins force meet the Takeda near Ueda in central Shinano. To his disappointment the forces are about even, while Takeda has slight advance with their 23000 men, also the army is commanded by the Takeda Daimyo himself, Takeda Shingen. No serious battle ensues as the opposing forces only skirmish each other in order to find out any possible weaknesses from the enemy and the situation remains in standstill for the rest of the summer with the two armies monitoring each other.
In the Northern Japan Date receives help from his allies Satake and Satomi with Satake sending 2500 men and Satomi 3000 men in order to help Date against Nanbu, while another ally Ashina, lets the reinforcements pass through their lands. On July 20th Satake army combines its forces with Date forces in South Western Dewa and starts marching towards Sendai, the capital of Date. The Satomi force few days behind Satake is marching towards Northern Dewa to defeat the enemy there.
The combined force of 7000 men under the Date daimyo Harumune arrives in the vicinity of Sendai on 25th of July and prepares for an attack the following night, against the 7000 men of Nanbu. At dusk of the day Harumune dispatches majority of his mounted samurai to attack the rear guards of Nanbu creating confusion amongst the Nanbu clan, who are not sure where the attack will be coming. Soon after the teppo and yumi of Date and Satake start shooting at the camp from the front side, while a contingent of their foot soldiers are guarding the missiles, who are cleverly shooting mix of fire and normal arrows, so in darkness the enemy cant predict their volleys. Nanbu Harumasa thinks that this must be the main attack force and orders an attack against the missile warriors. Soon after the Nanbu attack is launched the main foot contingent of the allied army appears behind the Nanbu attacking their rear, while the remaining garrison of Sendai sallies simultaneously. In this situation Nanbu Harumasa makes a painful decision and decides to leave his attacking force to their own devices while retreating with the left flank from the battle. Soon the vanguard, right and center of Nanbu army is surrounded and after that annihilated. Nanbu Harumasa is able to retreat with his left wing numbering no more then 2000 men, while 5000 of his warriors lay dead or have surrendered to the enemy. Date losses are around 1000 and Satake casualties numbering about 600 men.
In Dewa, Satomi force under the heir Yoshihiro discovers that his force will be of no use yet. While entering the Mogami domain, a messenger of Mogami Yoshimori informs him that Mogami has already lead out a force of 6000 men and forced the Nanbu force numbering about 2000 of mainly their vassal Oura warriors out from Dewa without an battle. So in the end of the July, Date with their allies have completely beaten back the attack of Nanbu.

My Business in this war? My business was decided for me with your suicidal attack upon on of my great allies.
And as for your family dying? Perhaps blame that on the fools you call your Samurai.. if they could wield a Sword with an ounce of skill perhaps your family would not have died.
Could you care to explain?
Why should i explain myself to you.. read into the mislettering all you want... the situation is the same.. you will fall for you aggression in a situation that was uncalled for.
But i will anyway... myself and Oda had an agreement if either of us was attacked by a surrounding neighbour we would form into a defensive force to repel the aggressor (thats you if your not following).. This would be an *Alliance*
But we were not allied before as we saw no need for it.. perhaps he fancied Omi ? and i had ideals for Owari? His support in Ise was soley to secure my support against the Eastern alliance. He came begging for it.
So if you havent followed... it was ur actions thats pushed myself and Oda into an alliance against yourself... you see the blunder you have made? before we would have probabably kiled each other in a few seasons time? maybe even now over the ownership of Ise?

Clan Asai has decided to hand over the family and heirs currently in our possesion to there master Kitabatake who is currently residing as Miyoshi's Guest.
Asai Nagamasa has also decided to offer young Kitabatake a chance to uphold his families honour and once again prove the Kitabatakes worth on the battlefield. I come with an offer to make you a General in my armies with great power, land and men under your command... if you prove yourself half the samurai our father was it will be worth the risk of a knife in the dark, but if you prove urself .. your clans land, Ise, will be yours to rule in my name.
The war between your clan and mine was a war between our fathers which i settled at his request. I do not view you as an enemy and looked for all avenues for your father to live on and serve me as the great samurai he was. I have no bad blood towards yourself and grant you free passage throughout my lands and all japan.. all Kitatabatake family member now come under my protection and any disregard of this will be challenged with the might of the Asai.

Unto Lord Matsudaira,
It is no dishonor to surrender before insurmountable odds. It is better for my soul to let you live instead of crushing you like the rocks of an unstable mountain falling upon a poor peasant. Thus, I afford you this one chance to surrender and treat with me as to the fate of your lands. Perhaps you may be even humble enough to realize your mistake and become a vassal of the glorious Imagawa again.

Lord Imagawa, I doubt that someone who admits himself to be as an unstable mountain, could be accounted for as honourable. Thus I am beginning to understand why the Matsudaira has renounced their vassalship to you, and I pray that many clans will rise to oppose your coalition before it is too late.
Honour has forsaken this land. What daimyô would forsake his independence to serve another lord, and what lord would ally with another for any sake but his own?

Is Lord Otomo suggesting that Matsudaira Motoyasu aka Tokugawa Ieasy is something else then rebellous vassal of Imagawa? What Lord Imagawa is suggesting is generous for a rebellous vassal. If vassal of mine would rise against me, i would execute his family and burn down his castle. Come to your senses and see the truth. This foul alliance of the Hojo, Takeda, and Imagawa controls a massive army capable of conquering each daimyo, one, by one, by one, until the remainder are to weak to offer even a token resistance. Do not disregard me as a rebellious vassal, because if you do not soon unite and act against the foul alliance then you too, in time, will be reduced to a vassal of their empire. Heed my words, and unite. If not for me then for your own families and your own honor.

Your own clan for example share this fate, and was it not for relentless scheeming and brutality, neither you nor your ancestors would have been Daimyô, rather lowly retainers of a minor clan.
What Matsudaira is now doing is what so many others have done before him. Spitting on him for his deeds would be like spitting on the graves of your forefathers. This however does not mean I am speaking in his favour, indeed a rebellious vassal should be smitten without pardon. Therefore I think that it is folly and not mercy that inspires Imagawa to pardon Lord Matsudaira, hoping he could shorten this campaign to quickly turn his hungry eyes elsewhere,
Ôtomo Sorin
Hojo,
Lord Otomo has just backed up me view again but in a few more detailed words... Imagawa is a fool.

Chapter 11. Autumn 1562
https://img503.imageshack.us/img503/676/autumncolorsrw4.jpg
"A general of great merit should be said to be a man who has met with at least one great defeat."
- Asakura Norikage (1474-1555)
Like the Autumn leaves dropping from the trees and rotting on the ground, the bushi of many daimyo´s face their destiny during this season, forever loosing the light of their eyes, closing those eyes and falling in to eternal sleep of death.
On Kuyshu, Shimazu Takahisa decides to join in support of his allies Otomo and orders troops to join the war against Amako. Shimazu fleet embarks from Satsuma as the season begins.
In Chukogu, lots of manouvering takes place. Alarmed by the devastation in his home provinces, Mori Motonari orders a general retreat. His forces supporting Ukita in Bizen and both siege armies from Izumo and Bingo retreat to Mori´s home lands and start immediately rooting out the Amako raiding parties.
As Motonari retreats from Bingo, Otomo force umbering about 8000 men abandon the siege of Taigashima and march North to take over the siege of Amako capital Gassan Toda.
After Kikkawa Motoharu has left with his 9000 men, Amako inspects the enemy force and finds out that the numbers of the Otomo force is smaller then the previos Mori army. While 3000 Amako men has returned from Iwami, to harass the siege army, Amako Yoshihisa decides to sally.
On the night of september 12th Amako forces launch a surprise attack from the South and Western Gates of Gassan Toda, while 3000 Amako men attack from the rear of Otomo forces. Locally outnumbered, the Otomo force cant stop the attack and soon half of the Otomo army is routed.
In this situation, leader of Otomo forces Yoshimune has no other options, then order a retreat. Amako forces drive the remnants of the Otomo army out from the sight of Gassan Toda and after that deploy only scouting parties to witness the withdrawal of the Otomo army to North East.
In the battle Otomo looses about 4000 of their almost 8000 men, icluding some 500 teppos. The remaining less then 4000 keep withdrawing towards the North coast of Izumo. Amako losses in the battle are about 1000 men. On 15th of September, the scouts of Shimazu army, which has landed, meet Otomo and the two armies combine near the coast, together now numbering 12000 men.
Meanwhile Amako Yoshihisa decides to leave Gassan Toda with his father and main retainers and the castle is left under the command of Amako Tomohisa, brother of Yoshihisa. The garrison is joined with the 3000 Amako men from Iwami and now numbers 7000 men.
The Shimazu commander, Iriki-in Shigetsugu, rejects to besiege Gassan Toda again with their current numbers and the allied army remains in North Eastern Izumo.
Meanwhile in Bingo, as the Otomo has abandoned the siege, Amako sends scouts to the border of Aki to assemble the remnants of their raiding parties, while majority of their troops have been destroyed by the huge amount of Mori troops who have been hunting them down.
In Bizen situation remains calm as both Ukita and Yamana stay in their earlier positions.
In Kinai, Miyoshi dispatches ships to Ise to get back the family members of Kitabatake. While Asakura stays put in Owari and Mino, trying to rip every koku out of their new domain, their forces in Kaga are in serious problems, while the Asakura force in Kaga receives 1000 koku from a third party and raises additional 1000 men to protect Otama Kobo castle. They have new enemies as the Hatakeyama of Noto invade the province from North.
With an simultaneous attack, 3900 Hatakeyama warriors attack from north, while 3000 Oda and 2000 Asai warriors from South. The combined army surrounds Otama castle commanded by Asakura Kagetsura with his 2000 men and a ferocious assault starts on morning of 5th of September. Hatakeyma starts their assault from the North side of the castle while Oda attacks from South and Asai from West.
At noon three waves of attacks have been repulsed by Asakura, but the numbers tell a cold story. with each attack the Asakura ranks grow thineer and thinner, but the brave defenders hold the castle until sundown.
After sundown Kagetsura gathers his men on the courtyard of the castle and serves the remaining sake to his exhausted men. After brief silence the Taisho talks to his men.
"You men fought well today. You have done everything to your master that could have been done. I thank you in place of the Asakura daimyo for your great service to our clan. Once our lord returns, he will surely avenge our deaths. Have no fear, because our earthly problems are about to end. Take courage to your hearts and take as many invaders with you as possible, because tomorrow we shall all be dead, if heaven wills it."
After his speech Kagetsura orders his men to rest and a sigle flute starts to play until the morning hours. The fascinated besiegers listen through the night as the flute performs beautiful, but sorrow tunes, to both the besiegers and besieged. On the morning of 6th day the flute silences and orher tune starts this time with the load roar of concentrated teppo´s, playing the death tune of Kagetsura and his brave men.
In Owari Asakura Yoshikage decides to take no offensive. But the force from Owari only moves in Mino. On mid september, 4000 Asakura troops arrive via sea to Owari, on unidentified ships. After counting what harvest they have gathered, Asakura Yoshikage has a problem. He has more men in arms, then he can support through the year. Now he has to think carefully what to do, before his army starts to grumble before his own eyes.
In Mikawa, the Takeda and Hojo troops march back to Shinano, while Imagawa holds Tokugawa sieged in Okazaki. In September 21st, the Takeda and Hojo forces meet with the Takeda main army, which is facing Uesugi. Trusting their advance in numbers, Takeda Shingen decides to attack. The allied army numbering almost 40000 men launches attack against the Uesugi force which is only half their size. Shingen takes no chances, he launches attacks of similar strength like their opponents all along the Uesugi front, while moving his reserves behind the attacks to brake one part of Uesugi line at the time. In couple hours Uesugi Kenshin is forced to retreat and has to use all his talent avoiding a full rout in his army. Takeda harasses the beaten Uesugi force all the way back to Northern Shinano, where the harassing turns into moitoring of the enemy.
Uesugi is badly mauled and looses some 8000 men, while Takeda and allied losses are less then 3000 men.Clear fact is that cntral Shinano is in complete control of Takeda and Uesugi should be scared if the same thing will happen in Northern Shinano in near future.
In Kanto the situation remains as stalemate. Neither side launches offensive and the situation seems deceptively peaceful.
In North, Oura clan renounces Nanbu clan as their masters and kills or captures all Nanbu troops in their domain. Mogami clears any remaining Nanbu troops from Northern Dewa with Satomi, before the latter joins Date and Satake troops in besieging the Nanbu capital, Mito. The allied army has 5000 Date, 3000 Satomi and 1900 Satake warriors against 2000 Nanbu warriors lead by the Nanbu daimyo, Harumasa. It seems that Nanbu clans remaining days are not numerous, unless something unexpected happens.
I will send the situation reports tomorrow. Please wellcome back two of our players. Ichigo will take over Shimazu and {BHC}AntiWarmanCake88 will resume command of Yamana. Deadline for answers will be Sunday 17th of february and it will hold, so if you have nothing much to order send your orders early preferable rather then late. If you cant make in time, notice about it in the thread before, so the deadline can be adjusted.

Once again we find the Asai capable of nothing more than killing thousands of innocents. We hear they rape all of the womenfolk they find within the walls of my people's houses and force the males to watch. Then they slit their throats. They have little in common with men and we pray that someone in the world will take heed of these atrocities.

Statement from the Lord Amako
Once again the snivelling Mori dogs show their true colours. They knew they could not stand against the honorable men of the Amako so they hitched up their skirts and scuttled home like rats in the night rather than face us in open battle. The only blow they know is the stab in the back. They are not true warriors and a disgrace to the Bushido code. As usual they decieved an ally, leaving the Otomo to face the might of the Amako. At least they stood and fought like men rather than fleeing like prattling women.
I say to all allies of the Mori - look at their record - they have stabbed me in the back after my forces had done most of the fighting and they deserted the Otomo when faced with the prospect of a fight. I say to the Otomo and the Shimazu who do you wish for an ally - a dishonorable coward or a warrior with honor. Join with me and we will crush these dogs who an insult to Bushido. They dare not face my small forces in Gassan Toda, so with a united force they will not stop running until they are up to their necks in the sea. I do not seek money or lands - they can be yours - all I seek is a justified revenge. Only when the banners of the Mori hang from and the severed head of the Mori Lord looks down on the ramparts of Gassan Toda will I sleep easy.
Open Letter to Asakura Yoshikage
This is War Asakura, People Die, Innocents Die, Perhaps you should have thought of this before you invaded Owari.
But please do not hold me accountable for what happened inside Kaga, Oda leads the armies of the north, You only have yourself to blame for provoking Oda and I have no power to stop him, infact i do not wish to, i stand by him but his anger is still raw, unavenged , he wants you dead Asakura and as you can see... it wont be long.
And i've never views Men with swords charging the lines of our men as innocent Asakura.. perhaps this is where you go wrong as a Daiymo and as a Man ... you cant tell the difference between a goat and a Human. I've heard the stories of your habits, so has Japan.
I just hope you can see why when you asked me to choose between yourself and Oda, there was only one sensible option.. I believe there are few Generals in Japan to match Oda, where as there is only one General in Japan which i hold you in higher regard than.. Lord Yamana.

Open statement:
Lord Ôtomo tends to find needless slander rather uninspiring. However this much is a fact:
Lord Asai has never ordered the slaughter of unarmed men, while it remains a fact that Lord Asakura indeed, has. Unless I am alone together with my ally Shimazu Takahisa to count christians as men.
As your fate draws ever closer, Asakura Yoshikage, I would have expected to see at least some measure of remorse. Nonetheless, you have managed to outdo even my own oppinions of you, which admittedly is quite a feat.

Esteemed Otomo Sorin
I would say to you a wise one. Judge your ally by his record - he stabbed me in the back while an ally and after I and my troops had bourne the brunt of a campaign that he has benefited from. When he stood with you before Gassan Toda he choose to run like a woman in the night rather than face my forces - leaving you at a disadvantage when I attacked. Who is to say if you are not next on his list of allies to betray? We both could weaken our forces fighting each other leaving the Mori cowards to attack the weakened force afterwards. This clan with no honour dares not stand in a true fight like you or I. I have no quarrel with you, I have only attacked you in defence of my capital. Join me and see how an honorable ally acts.

Amako Haruhisa,
I assume you realize that as long as the Môri, the Shimazu and the Ôtomo stand united, you will fall, sooner or later.
Divide and conquer. If you split our alliance with false offers, turn us against eachother while strenghtening your own position, you can later pick us off, one by one. With your ally Yamana, you are already strong enough to offer the three of us formidable resistance. You have no need for any of us as allies, you would gain the upper hand by simply isolating Môri to stand alone.
I am not a fool, nor am I one to betray one man for the offers of another. Lord Môri withdrew to his lands to protect his people, and you call him a coward for it. All the while, you were the one who choose to attack defense-less people rather than fighting our armies upfront.
Lord Môri betrayed you, but that has nothing to do with my personal honour. You ask me to stain it by lowering myself to the rank of a mercenary, and you speak of it as honour. At this point I would fight you even if Môri was not involved.
And know this. What you have seen of the Kyûshû hosts up until now has been a token force. My assets have been invested in building projects, but now the harvest has come. By spring your lands will be covered with the banners of our clans. By that time, your people will thank the heavens that noone in our alliance is a ruthless butcher such as yourself,

I did not want this war against the Asakura clan and it saddens me, that the aggression of the Asakura daimyo, has already brought strife and despair to Owari, Echizen and Kaga. Sadly this war has already degenerated to a state where a peaceful solution is impossible. I hope to be able to repair the damage caused by my occupation at the first possible moment and as a sign of my good will for the people of Echizen, the taxes for the next coming year will be decreased by a quarter to an amount of 11250 koku for the whole province. Lord Mori wonders why Lord Amako speaks lowly of the Mori. We won't face you in open battle? Come out from behind your walls. We won't face you in open battle? Stop raiding villages and killing peasants. The only blow we know how to strike is to the back? You have done the same with your pincer attack at Gassan Toda. My head WILL look down at Gassan Toda. But it will be attached to my body, and I shall stand alongside Lord Otomo and Lord Shimazu while I view MY castle from the top of MY keep.
Love,
Mori Motonari
And concerning Lord Otomo's faith, although we of the Mori clan are devout Buddhists, we shall make no effort to suppress Christianity. The people are free to practice it as they like within my lands. There is a church in Koriyama Castle, alongside a Buddhist monestary that all men are free to use as they like.

"Do you not see this, my ancestors!? Curse the scum in that castle."
Imagawa Yoshimoto kicked the snowy ground in frustration as his men were beaten in another duel with some of the brazen Tokugawa defenders. What had begun as amusement to break the boredom of the seige had become an embarrassment for him and an encouragement to the foolhardy enemies within the walls.
"No more duels. Let the bastards fight with fleas for rice! If anymore of them come from that gate, riddle them with bullets... cursed devils."
Yoshimoto returned to his seat and wrapped a fur about his shoulders.
"Takeda and Hojo left to gain glory in Shinano while we sit here and rot. Ha! Perhaps we should assault and take the insolent young Matsudaira Motoyasu. Since he will not bow before me again in life, he will in death, his head before me on a silver plater."
"But my lord," one of the general spoke up haltingly, "will such an attack ruin the army and leave us weak like a lame deer. Our enemies and 'allies' will see the weakness and devour us in short order."
Yoshimoto smiled, showing his blackened teeth, and then spit in the direction of the objecting vassal.
"Taisho, your words are logical, but devoid of reality. My treasury is drained, is that not weakness. The enemy makes fun of us and gathers their allies for an attack while we waste away here with no help from our allies. Is that not weakness!? Have I not been favored of the Gods, have not the ancestors looked well upon my deeds since my birth! Thus, do not doubt me now in this thing, to your peril. Okazaki-jo shall fall!"

*A rider carrying a white flag emerges from the Takugawan stronghold. He carries a message to the Imagawan Daimyo*
You're losing your honor sitting outside our castle while your allies gain glory in Shinano. I'm losing honor by cowering behind my walls. So I propose an idea...
I will be allowed to lead my army out of our castle. We will march to a nearby flat plain. The next day at dawn we will each prepare for battle. Each of us will ride out to discuss a possible peaceful resolution. If no peaceful resolution can be found then we will return to our respective armies and begin battle. Winner take all.
If I win, here are my terms.
1. Your Daimyo will commit Seppuku.
2. Your army will leave our lands and no Imagawan will ever again set foot in our lands while possesing a sword, shield, or musket.
3. If the Takeda or Hojo attack us then your entire family will be honor bound to commit Seppuku.(and I in turn am honor bound not to attack them or you.)
4. You will pay us 3,000 Koku.
This offer is for the next turn(spring). During the current turn(winter) we're going to stay warm and cozy inside our castle while you freeze in the fields. We truly hope that the spring thaw will find us in honorable open battle instead of this perpetual waiting we are currently forced to endure.
The battle will only be Takugawans against Imagawans. No allies for either of us.
Your beloved rival,
Matsudairu Motoyashu

Chapter 12, Winter 1562 - 1563
https://img228.imageshack.us/img228/9997/eveningsmz2.jpg
Another year of war has passed. Not even winter stops campaigning this year, as several Daimyos throw their men to die in hunger and frostbites in order to defeat their enemies. Many Ashigaru and Samurai fall asleep in the snowy ground for the last time, their bodies defeated by cold weather and hunger and battered in battle, in the end the winter snow wraps their battered corpses inside its white veil, until new Spring will expose those corpses for the birds and wild animals to feast upon.
In Kuyshu, according to previous agreement between Shimazu and otomo houses, the ownership of Chikugo province is handed to Shimazu. Also building efforts of Shimazu Clan start to bear fruit. The upgrading of Shimazu capital is finished and Kagoshima´s defenses make now the castle an formidable opponent to any besieger. Also Churches are finished all around the Shimazu domain, including provinces of Osumi,Higo,Hyaga and Chikugo, meaning that now all the Shimazu provinces have a gathering place for Christians and the spread of new religion becomes stronger and stronger. Shimazu Takahisa mobilizes his fleet in the middle of the Winter and huge fleet of 100 ships, carrying 10000 men is seen leaving towards the coast Bungo, where it is rumored to meet with Otomo and Mori navies.
Shimazu´s neighbour,Otomo Sorin is behind the large fleet action. Otomo has also been successful in their building efforts and Otomo capital Utsuki, witnesses the completion of first teppo factory in Kuyshu. Also Otomo has been building churches all over their domain and before handing Northern Chikugo to Shimazu, another Church is completed there so Chikugo province now has two major churches in it.
During november 5 Otomo ships, carrying Gold and Tawara Chikataka sail to East. On December 5th large fleet is spotted moving towards Utsuki from North. despite the Winter storms, The whole of Mori fleet has been dispatched to bring more Kuyshu troops to fight against Amako. Shortly after Otomo men have embarked to the ships, Otomo forces take control of Mori ships, outnumbered crews surrender and are forced to start carrying the now hostile armies towards their own lands. On December 10th the huge fleet numbering 230 ships, carrying 23000 men embark towards Chukogu and Mori domain. On the December 13th the fleet anchors in the Shimonoseki Strait, a narrow mass of water which separates the Kuyshu from the main island of Japan, Honshu. This place is the ancient battle ground of Dan no Ura, where during Genpei war, Minamoto and Taira Clans fought the decisive naval battle, which resulted into defeat and mass suicide of the Taira Clan.
During the early evening hours, Murakami Takeyoshi , the commander of the Mori navy, is informed that the weather is about to to turn very bad. With the help of his close men, he starts organizing to overthrow the Otomo warriors in his flag ship and hopes that others will join him. In midnight the winds gather up and this is signal for Mori navy to break up. Takeyoshi quickly dispatches the Otomo warriors in his ship and sets of flares for the other Mori ships to see in order to overthrow their Otomo cargo. A chaos ensues as colossal waves hit the fleet and the wind tears the sails of the ships, while the Mori seamen, attack their Otomo guardians with deathly resolve. Soon the straits are horrible sight of sinking and burning ships, ships crushed on rocks on both sides of the straits and drowning sea men and warriors struggling in the center of huge waves which are destroying everything in their path.
On the morning of December 14th, the grand navy is no more. Out of the 230 ships, less then 40 ships remain, while the remnants of the army are stranded on both sides of the straits. Murakami Takeyoshi was able to sail away to the east with 15 of his ships. The terrified survivors whisper about green and slimey ancient Taira warriors crawling out from the sea to the ships killing everyone they encountered and dragging people under the waves to an dark wet tomb, which the sea has become to majority of the Kuyshu army.
The daimyo of Otomo, Sorin, survives the storm, but is estranged on the Southern tip of Nagato with less then 3000 unsorted Otomo and Shimazu warriors, while there are about 2000 survivors on the Kuyshu side of straits. The survivors spent a nightmare winter, without much of supplies in a hostile country, starving and dying in cold, while the remainders of the fleet, crawl back to their home ports in order to be repaired.
In total the natural disaster almost comparable to the divine wind that destroyed the Mongol navies that invaded Japan, during 13th century has cost 80 ships and about 8000 men to Shimazu, while Otomo has lost 50 ships and 11000 men, while able to keep 10 of the Mori ships. The Mori navy is reduced to 15 ships.
Before the tragedy in the Sea, Mori Motonari sends an army to Bingo in the middle of the winter, encouraged by Otomo Sorin. Motonari leads personally a force of 15000 men and 4 cannons to Bingo and starts systematically pound to dust the walls of Taigashima castle.
Unaware of the tragedy in Sea, the Otomo and Shimazu forces in Izumo march into Iwami and lay siege against Tsuwano castle. The 1000 strong Mori border patrols delay the little less then 12000 strong army of Otomo and Shimazu, burning everything to the ground on their way, before joining the 2500 strong garrison of Tsuwano castle. The rest of the season means hunger and cold for stranded Otomo and Shimazu warriors in Nagato, to Mori army in Bingo, while pounding the 5000 strong Amako garrison with their cannons and same faith for the combined army of Otomo and Shimazu in Iwami, while stubbornly besiegeing the Mori garrison of 3500 men. While the war in Chukogu has been terrible so far, this winter will remain as a huge tragedy for all sides, as many of the best of Kuyshu and Chukogu die in cold and hunger obeying the orders of their leaders.
While Mori besieges the Bingo, Amako receives reinforcements as Yamana Toyosada marches into Izumo with 11000 men, while Amako raises 20000 men, from which he sends 2000 to Iwami, to create even more misery in the province.
On December 25th the mortally sick retired Amako daimyo, Haruhisa calls the Amako family to his mansion, in order to give out his last wishes. The visibly weakened Daimyo addresses his loved ones, while having to stop from time to time to gather his breath.
"I lost my father Masahisa, when i was 4 year old, in battle against our mortal enemy Ouchi Clan. After that i was raised by my grandfather, the mighty Tsunehisa, whom selected me as his heir after the rebellion of my fathers younger brother Okihisa in 1532.
Since then the fortunes of our family has shifted rapidly. I have marched with my armies as far as Harima in East, where i fought the Akamatsu. In 1540 i had the Mori by the throat when i besieged their capital, but the Ouchi saved them that time. No less then two years after that we were in brink of destruction when Ouchi and Mori surrounded our capital Gassan Toda, but the bravery of our men resulted in defeat of our enemies and finally in the destruction of the Ouchi Clan in hands of the Mori, after that we have fought endlessly with the Mori, whom we have been betrayed by and only last year our brave men drew away the Mori and their Simazu and Otomo allies. Our faith is in hands of you and i say to you people this: As long as Mori Motonari and his wretched Clan will live, there wont be peace in Chukogu. So as the last wish of a dying man, i urge you to destroy Mori, no matter how much it will cost to our Clan.
Allies and retainers are valuable in any efforts, but they should never be trusted completely. Also to my heir Yoshihisa. You have to rule alone and alone you will be. I had to even put my own uncle to death, because he schemed for my destruction. Only cold steel you can trust completely, nothing else in this world, my son, nothing else."
After the meeting with his family, Haruhisa fell asleep exhausted, but during the early hours of December 26th, the Amako Daimyo woke up suddenly and walked outside, where he sat down and leaned to an beam, for a minute he sat there and watched his garden covered in snow, while the pale moonlight shined its ghastly light over the peaceful scene. From there the castle guards found the dead Amako daimyo few hours later, still sitting, his eyes open gazing to his garden.
For most of the rest of the Japan, the winter was lot more peaceful. In the central Kinai area, the Otomo envoy reached Asai domain in early January, bringing gold with them. All the major players in the war in Kinai spend the winter redying themselves for the upcoming Spring and only internal movements of troops happened. In Tokai coast the situation was different from that.
Imagawa Yoshimoto was furious to his underlings. He had besieged Okazaki castle of Tokugawa for couple seasons already, but there was no signs of surrender. In the end of the Winter, Yoshimoto had it for waiting anymore and while most of his retainers were against it, he launched all out assault against the castle. On morning of February 2nd, with the sound of drums and conshells, the entire 17000 strong Imagawa army surged against the stronghold of Tokugawa Ieyasu. All the teppo fire and brave charges of the Imagawa Samurai and Ashigaru, couldnt bring down the castle. Tokugawa Ieyasu, shifted his forces skillfully from one point of danger to another and after three days of vicious assaults, the grounds of Okazaki castle were covered with corpses of Imagawa warriors. With his army decimated, Imagawa Yoshimoto furiously called in his generals and ordered to disband his remaining 6000 men. Calling them women and cowards. This was enough for the Imagawa retainers and in a moment of fury, the leading generals of Yoshimoto killed their own master.Asahina Yasutomo the leading general present ordered the army to march back to Suruga and there he explained to the new daimyo of Imagawa, Imagawa Ujizane, that his father had lost his mind and had to be killed before he would destroy the whole Clan.
The unseemly had happened and Tokugawa Ieyasu, who thought he was doomed was once again master of his domain, with the remaining 6000 defenders of Okazaki,he was given more time in this earth, which he had hardly expected.
In the Shinano and Kanto the winter went on with relative peace as the Takeda was reluctant for winter campaign and Satomi and Satake forces also remained inactive. In Northern Mutsu the allied forces under Date Harumune decided to starve out the Nanbu garrison, while the winter was not easy for the besieging army either.
While there was lot of hardship during the winter months, many thought that the following Spring of year 1563, could turn out to be start of carnage all over Japan, unheard since the Onin War. With the determination of more then few Daimyos, this assessment could be more then true.

OOC:
well I guess I should have been more specific about siezing those ships, not the goddamn crews and generals...
The storm, resistance and losses I could have handled, sure, but combining that to this form of massive punishment is too much, especially as I had no intentions whatsoever to keep any of the Môri crew on the ships. I guess it's my own fault for not being clear on that
Public announcment from the Ôtomo daimyô:
It is evident that God has laid his punishment upon me, my plans have been found shameful before him and he has brought this disaster upon me. But it is not I that have paid most dearly for my fault but my people, my warriors, their families. The shame that I suffer before them is greater than I can bear. I carried these plans out with neglect, and combined with the divine acts of the Allmighty it has brought me a crushing blow.
I am a broken man, no longer fit to rule my people. I would retire to the life of a monk as repentance, but God has turned his grace from me, and my errors are beyond his forgiveness. Therefore, with no prospect of salvation, I will remove myself from this life.
My last prayer is that my son and heir would be a much better daimyô than myself, as I now pass my responsibilites to him.
-Ôtomo Sorin
The Ôtomo clan is in other words vacant, I consider myself defeated.

A statement from the Lord Daiymo Yoshihisa
The Clan Amako mourns the passing of the Lord Haruhisa - we have lost a great leader, but I swear to honour his dying words and rid our clan once and for all of the curse of the Clan Mori. Only when the last member of that dishonourable rabble has died begging for mercy at our feet will my father truely rest in peace.
And who will stand in our way - even the sea and wind are on our side as them strike the forces of our enemy and send them to a watery grave. How fitting that the traitor Mori now feel the sting of betrayal from a former ally.
I say this to all clans of Japan and especially the Otomo, I have but one enemy and that is the running dogs of the Mori. Join me in the utter extermination of this pestillance and your reward will be the lands of the Mori. All the Amako wishes is to return to the boundaries they held when attacked by the Mori - any other lands conquered will be yours

Gray skies, heavy with their burdens loomed over the whitening landscape. The air was clouded with falling snow, moist by the raging sea nearby. A fresh southeasterly breeze swept over the fields, whipping the yellowed grass to the ground. Usuki Akihaya sat on his horse by the old dirt road, spying towards the south. He had eyed the procession for some time and as it drew closer, he grew ever more anxious. Ôtomo Sorin, his lord and master was coming.
For many years Akihaya had served the Ôtomo faithfully. He was a loyal and kind man, if only a bit naive and trusting, and his generousity often caused him as much trouble as success. By the time the attack on the Môri clan had been presented and planned, he had been given only a minor role, to garrison Nagato once conquered. His kind nature was thought perfect for the job. The commander of the operation was ofcourse Sorin himself. However, by the time the Môri fleet arrived at Utsuki on the 5th of December, Sorin had fallen ill while in Chikugo. He had been arranging for turning the province over to the Shimazu, and a terrible fever kept him in bed. A dispatch was sent immidiately to the capital where half the assembled army was waiting. Now the responsibility for leading the Bungo contingents fell upon Akihaya's shoulders, being the only senior general present.
Although nerveous with his sudden importance, Akihaya did not even think about declining. He immidiately decided to carry through the plans, boarding and subduing the Môri ships with little resistance. The orders were then to imprison the Môri sailors and execute their admiral and officers, however at this time it came to Akihaya's attention that there were not sufficient men to crew the Môri vessels. A search through the local fishing camps had come up with just a handful of men, as phneumonia was raging among the peasants in the area, few were fit for service. Akihaya had been stalling the slaughter of the Môri officers, and with a desperate situation now presenting itself, he acted rashly.
After some quick negotiation with the Môri admiral Murakami Takeyoshi, threatening to execute them all if he would not swear by every japanese diety to serve as crew without resistance, Takeyoshi agreed. He swore his entire command in on the arrangement, and Akihaya, being a deeply religious man himself, felt confident that he had saved face. Already five days later the ships were prepared, and joined with the waiting Shimazu fleet to set north.
The rest was all history. Akihaya cursed himself in his mind, shifting weight in his saddle. He looked among his retainers waiting around him, now wishing desperately he could trade places with any one of them... "Even the page", he thought and muttered nerveously, before again looking up towards the road. A handful of riders had sat of at gallop and were approaching rapidly. It was Sorin himself, followed by his aides. His exquisite, gelded armour gave him away, even at this distance. Even through the snow he glistered like a bolt of fire as he came thundering.
-"AAAAAKIHAYAAAAAAAAaaaaa!!!!!", roared the middleaged Daimyô while recklessly charging in amongst his vassals, men throwing themselves out of his way. His long beard was sprawling in every direction, his face still flushed by fever and his eyes, sparked by anger. Close to the startled ojbect of his fury, the exhausted man slid of his horse and stumbled to his feet, hissing, teeth clenched.
-"Tono!", Akihaya exclaimed with horror, and threw himself at the Daimyô's feet.
-"GET OUT OF MY SIGHT, DOG!!!" -replied Sorin, franticly waving his riding-stick at the terrified general.
After a moments hesitation, Akihaya glanced up at his master. "HA'!", he flew to his feet, bowed deeply and started walking backwards with shaky steps. His eyes were fixed at Sorins feet, he did not dare face his masters eyes.
Sorin stood still, seething with fury, only the wind and the flapping of banners made a sound. Then, after a moment of tension, Akihaya turned and started jogging towards his horse, slipping several times before he could grab the reins.
-"NO ONE GAVE YOU PERMISSION TO LEAVE! AKIHAYA!!"
Akihaya froze and swallowed hard.
-"Why were the Môri sailors on those ships!!"
Akihaya turned slowly to answer, but his toungue was tied, "Ha', Ah..."
-"Why did you let Takeyoshi LIVE!!"
-"....Because-"
-"WHY DID YOU ANCHOR THE FLEET, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STRAIT, DURING A GOD FORSAKEN STORM!!!!! KOKURA HARBOUR WAS JUST A STONETHROW AWAY!!!"
-"T-the the...There where not enough crew..."
-"WHAT!" Sorin glared dangerously at his terrified vassal.
-"For the ships. Tono, I could not find replacement crew..."
For a moment, Sorin stared silently at Akihaya
-"Then why did you not set the ashigaru by the oars!?"
-"B-but they, are not sailors..."
Again Sorin fell silent and stared at Akihaya, as in disbelief.
Then he looked towards the nearby shore, searching for something with his eyes.
-"HAH! You imbecile!" he shouted and again turned his face towards Akihaya;
-"THERE!" He threw out his arm in the direction of a few shacks by the water,
"ANYONE CAN CREW A SHIP!" -he boasted confidently, before setting off down the slopes towards the shore, his retainers trying hard to keep up.
Sorin made his way in between the shacks, and clamped out on the pier between them. Tied by a pole laid a small fishing-boat, tossed about in the rough sea. Without a pause, Sorin jumped aboard it, pulled out his dagger and cut the rope. Akihaya and the others stood up on the pier, looking with wonder while their crazed and cursing Daimyô struggled to get the oar in place.
-"Tono! You mustn't strain yours-" -Objected Akihaya before being interrupted
-"SILENCE!" -Sorin shouted and threw his riding-stick at him, then he grabbed the oar with both hands and looked up at his men,
-"I am no sailor either!", he spat, then he started shoving the oar back and forth with great determination. Soon the boat was sliding out over the water, while swaying violently under Sorin's furious struggle.
-"LOOK! LOOK! ANYONE CAN DO THIS! -The Daimyô roared through the breeze, while disappearing among the waves and the whirling snow.
The gathered men anxiously peered out after him, and some called out for him to return. Soon, two of his aides had undonned their armour and jumped into the freezing water to swim after him.
-"YOUR OUTRAGEOUS INCOMPETENCE, AKIHAYA, WILL BE THE END OF US!", Sorin thundered from somewhere out sea, no longer visible from the shore. Then a few minutes passed in silence,
-"What is this!?"
-"Tono! You must return!"
-"GET OFF MY FLAGSHIP YOU BUFFOONS!!"
-"Sorin-dono, please let go of the oar! We must return!"
-"NONESENSE! I will invade Nagato myself if I have to! Return whence you came! DEMONS!"
-"HOLD HIM DOWN!"
-"DON'T, TOUCH ME! ....TREASON! TRAITOR!! YOU THERE, KILL THIS REPROBATE!"
-"Tono, calm yourself!"
For a few minutes, Sorin's furious objections could be heard, before the boat reappeared through the snow. Soon, it pulled up alongside the pier, and a number of Akihaya's retainers dashed forth to pull it in. An exhausted Sorin pulled himself up on the pier, aided by two men. Once on his feet, he pushed one of them into the water with a loud frown.
-"Oar!" -the Daimyô cried. He was shaking, barely standing and breathing heavily.
-"Ha'!" One of his aides pulled up the oar and passed it on to Sorin. He grabbed it with both hands and raised it upright against the planking. He stood, leaning on it for a moment, then he lifted his head with some difficulty and tiredly uttered: "Usuki Akihaya..."
Akihaya stepped forward from among the others and bowed down before Sorin:
-"Tono..."
-"Why did you anchor in the strait?", Sorin asked, this time calmly.
Akihaya hesitated for a moment.
-"...Takeyoshi adviced me to do so. He said the ships would be run ashore if they were taken in..."
-"Tachibana Dôsetsu tells me he objected, why did you not heed his words?"
Akihaya looked down and closed his eyes, afraid to infuriate Sorin with his answer.
-"He is no sailor, I thought.... Takeyoshi..."
He never finished the sentence.
Sorin sighed and turned his face away, out to the water. It was ridden with pain.
The shame was burning inside Akihaya, tearing him apart. He struggled not to break into tears.
Without looking back at Akihaya, Sorin spoke once more:
-"Usuki Akihaya. Kill yourself..."
-"HAI!"
Akihaya immidiately rose to his feet, his teeth clenched and exposed from his emotional struggle.
-"Here, use this..."
Sorin said quietly, and held out the oar to Akihaya
"Ha'..."
Akihaya's shoulders sank. For a moment he stood still, silently letting go of his will to live. Then he lifted his face up, untied his helmet, slid it off his head and handed it to his page. He also loosened the sword from his side and passed it to one of his retainers. He stepped towards Sorin and gently took the oar from his hands. He bowed one last time to his Lord, then he stepped towards the boat.
Before he went in, he turned to his men.
-"This is it. I leave you now. Tell my family my farewell, forbid them to follow me. You will all serve loyally in my place, do not repeat my disappointing conduct."
His men saluted him and bowed down. Akihaya turned without hesitation and jumped into the boat. Soon the oar was in place and without pause Akihaya rowed the boat out into the sea. Sorin stepped shakingly out towards the end of the pier, there he collapsed to his knees. He sat silently, watching as Akihaya struggled into the whirling snow. Some of Akihaya's men were sobbing loudly.
Suddenly one of them cried out, tore off his armour and jumped into the water.
-"AKIHAYA-DONO! I WILL NOT ABANDON YOU! AKIHAYA-DONO, I'M COMING WITH YOU!"
Many of the men were now crying audibly. Two others started to strip their armour to follow the first, but one of Akihaya's senior retainers forbade them. The boat had now disappeared, only the wind and the repeating cries of Akihaya's follower could be heard over the roaring sea. Soon, they too died out. Sorin sat for a long time, tears flowing down his reddened face, staring into the sea. Out there, scattered over the bottom of the Kanmon strait, rested 19,000 Ôtomo and Shimazu warriors. And he had just sent two more to join them.
Kage, I will stay in the game, but I simply refuse to accept that this inept operation was carried out by my daimyô, for a number of reasons. I still think you should have come up with a more sober way of crushing me, one without so many aggrivating plotholes. However I'm not going to bitch about this anymore, the butthurt is wearing off anyway. But I request that you at least adjust the situation to fit my version of this event, i.e. Sorin did not lead the fleet, and is not stranded in Nagato.

Open letter from Ôtomo Sorin to the Emperor:
Revered Lord, I find it beyond me how I can be considered a loyal vassal after attacking the Kyûshû Tandai, Môri Motonari. I have shown no loyalty to neither you nor your court, and it is by my own choice. Nonetheless, I will heed your request for the time being.
Open letter from Ôtomo Sorin to Amako Yoshihisa:
I have no quarrel with you, I had little with your father. My plans were to attack Môri from the very beginning, as soon as I learned that he was devising to backstab the Amako. I do not trust men who stabs their allies in the back, and I don't bind myself by honour to not return the favour upon themselves. I had to move in the pretense of supporting him for some time, so that I could establish a sustainable foothold on Chukogu, regardless of the Môri fleets.
However, even while there was cause for me to turn on Lord Môri, God looked with displeasure upon my plans and still punished me for them. Which goes to show that loyalty and personal integrity is above all value.
I have still shamed myself greatly, and I will bear personal responsibility.
Regardless, I will continue according to my plan, which is thus:
-I offer clan Amako a treaty of non-aggression.
-I offer to restore the pre-war borders, everything west of them, I will claim for Kyûshû.
-I offer to deliver Môri Motonari into your custody, should I capture him before you do. Should we find him dead, I will deliver his head before you.
I hope you find my offer acceptable,

You must show more respect to the descendant of goddess Amaterasu, Otomo Sorin. You might be a Christian but still you owe much respect to His Imperial Majesty the Emperor of Nippon. If I have had no loyalty, at least I offer my honesty and speak frankly. We are all disobedient servants to selfishly drag the Emperors children through war, starvation and sickness for the sake of our own prestige. Show me one Daimyô who has not.
My respect for the Emperor is shown in my truthfulness; I do not assume to lie to his face, and I cannot promise that I will suffer this wretched life until my days are fully numbered,

I welcome your offer of peace and your words of wisdom. I accept your offer of non aggression. By pre war borders I assume you mean that the province of Iwami is split down the middle and 50% of the income from the silver mine comes to the Amako - this was the situation before the treacherous move of the Mori. Subject to the situation in Iwami, I am happy to accept the western provinces going to Kyushu. Indeed I am happy to assist in the efforts of you and your allies in achieving this. To this end I have instructed my forces nearby to your armies in Iwami to make contact with you and offer their services.
As for the Mori Motonari, I welcome your gesture of honour. In acknowledgement of that, I will inform you of his capture, should I apprehend the brigand. Together, along with my ally the Yamana, as honourable men, we will determine his fate.

Besides, I think I've been something of an asshat with my whining, although it did produce a nice side-story I guess, I don't feel like I have a right to nag on Kage to hurry up with the chapters.

Chapter 13, Spring 1563
https://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2149/toriiop1.jpg
After a long winter, in some parts of Nippon, peasants picked up their tools and started another harvest cycle, while in many other parts they picked up a yari spear, provided by their lords and marched to war as Ashigaru foot soldiers.
In Kuyshu, The daimyos of the island ordered large chunks of forest to be cut down, while the timber was dragged to shipyards in order to renew the fleets they lost during the horrible storm during winter. Also men were drafted to fight the cause of their masters
Otomo Sorin dispatched Tachibana Dôsetsu with an army of 2500 men to Nagato in order to establish a firm foot hold in the Mori domain. Also the Otomo forces in Iwami marched to Nagato, while about 6500 Shimazu warriors kept besieging Tsuwano castle as they didnt receive any new orders to do otherwise.
Meanwhile Mori Motonari gave up the siege of Taigashima castle and marched rapidly back to Aki. Once Motonari arrived into his capital, he held a meeting in order to inform other clan members and close retainers about how he saw the future of the Mori clan.
" Now that Otomo and Shimazu have turned against us. I see little hope for the future, thus i have decided that i will leave half of my domain to my second son Kikkawa Motoharu , along with the provinces of Suo and Nagato, while the other half Including Iwami and Aki i will leave to my ally Ukita Naoie. I will together with my first and third son take our remaining fleet with as much men it can hold and seek refuge myself from the Chosokabe domain. In there we will do our best to fight our enemies"
In respect of the Patriarch of the Clan nobody said anything, but many times face can tell thousand times more then any words. While some faces were red of anger, others were gray from fear. Only the three sons of Motonari remained calm.
After few days, The whole Mori fleet was loaded up and was ready to go, carrying 1500 men in total. When Motonaris ship was about to sail he realized that instead of just Kikkawa Motoharu, all three of his sons stood in the peer waving. the eldest Takamoto shouted to his father:
"Father, we apologize! We couldnt sail out and leave Motoharu fight alone! Forgive us, but we cant leave our domain without a fight! Father...Farewell!"
With glassed eyes Motonari watched as the figures of his sons got dimmer and smaller, but he did nothing to stop the fleet. So the former master of Choshu, departed to Shikoku as little better then refugee, while leaving his sons behind to fight.
Upon his arrival to Shikoku, Motonari received a warm wellcome from Chosokabe Motochika, but after the wellcome ceremonies the younger and older man talked in private. After a brief silence Motochika raised his head and looked straight at the old Motonaris eyes.
"You are welcomed here with your men, but know this. With you, you brought here war, when you were escaping from one. What better cause could the Kuyshu clans get then to invade Shikoku with an excuse of hunting you down. This time im afraid, there is no escape."
Both men sat still for a while looking out from the open terrace, watching a view of sea and garden. Maybe soon that sea could bring more hostile guests.
While the brothers did their most to rally the Mori retainers and prepare to drive out the invaders, Amako with his Yamana allies was not standing idle. Amako Yoshihisa ordered his field armies to destroy the Mori forces in Bingo, but once Yoshihisa reached Bingo, he learned that the Mori were gone already. Meanwhile the Amako forces in Iwami were ordered to participate in the siege of Tsuwano, about 1600 strong Amako force arrived to meet the Shimazu army and after talk between multiple emissaries, the Shimazu commander accepted their former opponents to enter the siege force.
During early may, Ukita Naoie learned about the retirement of Mori Motonari from letter of Kikkawa Motoharu, which also explained to him, that while Motonari gave lot of Mori land to Ukita in his will, The new Mori daimyo would not give his core provinces to Ukita while he begged for Ukita to remain his ally and tie down the menacing Amako and Yamana with his forces if practical.
Naoie understood the grim situation and commanded immediate council of war.
Yamana Toyokuni purchased couple cannons from the Portuguese traders when they arrived his lands. He also ordered raids to Ukita´s province Bingo, but once 250 mounted samurais from Mimasaka, enter Buzen in early may, instead of meeting border patrols the first thing they encountered was 500 strong mounted Vanguard of Ukita army lead by the daimyos brother, Ukita Tadaie. In the ensuing skirmish, the Yamana raiding party was demolished by the numbers of the enemy, while only 50 men survived and rode like demons were chasing them back to Tsuyma castle, without clear knowledge of the enemy´s size and intention.
After 6 days, the intention became clear as 6000 strong Ukita army surrounded the castle. In his war council Tadaie gave simple commands to his sub commanders:
"My brother ordered me to take this castle, so we are not here to spend the summer. All troops should prepare assault positions while our three cannons are to be deployed around the castle. Once the cannons are ready. I want systematic bombardment to start. First destroy the towers, then gatehouses and once its done assault will commence immediately."
After a week of bombardment, the towers and gatehouses of the simple Tsuyama castle were wrecked completely. With little hesitation Tadaie ordered assault against castle from three sides, deploying 2000 men to each breach. While the Yamana fight bravely, the garrison of about 1000 men was overwhelmed and Ukita claims their old castle back, with casualties numbering about 2000 men, leaving the Yamana home provinces open for attack.
Further south Miyoshi Chokei made his decision. He ordered Miyoshi Nakamura with 7000 men to march in Iga and besiege Ueno castle. April 11th the Miyoshi army besieged Ueno castle which seemed rather lightly defended. The garrison amounted for no more then 2000 men, but soon the abouts of the rest of Iga warriors started to unravel. After few days reports with increasing frequency started arriving to Nakamuras headquarters. Attacks of small parties happened all along the supply route back to Yamashiro, also foraging parties were being attacked in systematical pattern, the unconventional type of warfare which Iga warriors are known, was aimed against the invading Miyoshi force and Nakamura could only send letters to Chokei, explaining that something has to be done. More men are needed and maybe Ueno assaulted as the Miyoshi army is sitting in a beehive and the casualties are raising by the day.
Other then the invasion of Iga, Chokei sent an army about 5000 men to Owari via ship, which was carrying also the daughter of Miyoshi Chokei, who was to marry Asakura Yoshikage. Once Miyoshi fleets arrived in Owari, The army split up, leaving less then half to Owari, while the other half of the army marched rapidly towards Mino, in order to deliver the Asakura Daimyo his bride.
On may 3rd, the Miyoshi army arrived in the capital of Saito, the mighty Inabayama castle. To a dismay of the Miyoshi princess, Saito Yoshitatsu had bad news for her. Her soon to be husband was no more in Inabayama.
After long winter of waiting Asakura Yoshikage decided it was time for action. He summoned his forces from Owari to bolster the defenses of Inabayma while himself marched out on April 15th with 17000 men cautiously towards Echizen, aiming to recapture his capital.
Without knowledge about this the opposing coalition of Oda, Asai and Hatakeyama clans gathered their forces to Asai home province of Omi and day before the Miyoshi bride entered Inabayama, the huge host started marching on the same direction. During Spring Oda Nobunaga received 6000 Hatakeyama men from the Noto and Kaga and after joining them with his own 8000 men, while 1000 under Maeda Toshie were dispatched to Owari. Once the 14000 men combined were ready Oda marched to Omi where he met with 11000 Asai and 5000 Otomo warriors. So in may 2nd a host of 30 000 warriors started marching towards Inabayama, which was defended by 3000 Saito, little more then 4000 Asakura and the just arrived about 2500 Miyoshi troops.
On May 14th Saito Yoshitatsu entered the mansion of the daughter of Miyoshi Chokei in his castle and asked her to leave while it was still possible:
"Dear girl. Your husband has marched to war and war is marching towards here. While the wedding cant take place yet, i have to inform you that the guests are about to arrive. Before sundown today i firmly believe that we will be besieged."
The Miyoshi princess had no intention to leave and said:
"My father is the Kanrei. He will not allow me or my future husband to perish in the hands of some rebels. I will stay here until my husband returns from Echizen or invites me there."
Yoshitatsu watched the stubborn girl with appreciation in his eyes and promised that he would be the best host to her possible, as long as he would breath.
During the day, sudden sounds of teppos fired reached the castle and skirmishing parties rode in and out of the castle, but as the sun was about to set, silence fell around the castle of Saito Yoshitatsu, while the last rays of light touched the hillsides around the castle, single raider appeared on a hill opposite the castle. Saito Yoshitatsu watched from a rampart of his castle of this lone horseman. For a minute it seemed like everything had frozen, even time. Then the man raised his right hand which grasped his spear and raised it slowly over his head. As the spear raised the world came back to alive as tens of thousands of men carrying their weapons and different flags appeared on the hills and started marching towards the castle from several directions. The man on the hill lowered his spear while his Hatamoto surrounded himself. That man was Oda Nobunaga.
Next day after the castle was properly surrounded the hammering and shoveling started. Oda and his allied army started building foritfications around the castle, as if he was building his own castle around Inabayama. During evening a messenger rode to Nobunagas large tent.
"Sir! Asakura is at Echizen with army of 17000 men. We cant stop him!"
Another messenger from south this time, appeared and reported
"I cant move to Owari, our friends seem to become enemies,- Maeda Toshiie"
Two days after the initial siege more men entered the area. The brave Daimyo of Tokugawa Ieyasu, who had defeated Imagawa Yoshimoto a little while a go, entered the siege force ahead of his 4000 men. With his sarcastic sense of humor, Ieasy smirked and said:
"Quite a lovely little gathering here."
At Shinano, Takeda was on the move. 10 000 men under Yamamoto Kansuke marched from Central Shinano to Southern Shinano, what was the aim of this movement remained hidden to the Uesugi and Tokugawa spies. Also the little less then 10000 Hojo warriors marched South to their own homelands. To compensate that. 10 000 Takeda warriors from Kai took their place in Central Shinano.
In the border along Hojo, Satake and Satomi, things remained calm, while in the North, Date waited calmly for the fall of Nanbu capital, Mito castle.
Sorry for keeping you guys waiting for so long. I hope we can be lot more speedy with the next chapter.

Announcement from Mori Clan
I Kikkawa Motoharu, second son of Mori Motonari am the new daimyo of the Mori clan after my fathers retirement. I wish the best of fortune to both my allies and enemies. May Buddha guide your hand in the right way.
Together with my brothers i svear to defend the domain of my Clan to the last breath. I would first like to congratulate My ally the Ukita for his victory over Yamana. May your sword crush these trouble makers. Also i urge the allied Clans East from Yamana to strike those wretches, before they will attack you again.
Second to my honourable enemies, Amako,Otomo and Shimazu. I am ready for peace, but i also have deathly resolve to fight to the bitter end. You may crush me and my men with your numbers, but you shall bleed royally also in the process.
May Buddha grant thousand year of fortune to Clan Mori.
Kikkawa Motoharu, Daimyo of Aki, Suo, Nagato and Iwami
OOC: Im glad you guys are still around after the long wait.As some of you may have guessed already. I didnt get orders from all clans even with this time. What do you think, what would be good time to send orders? Specially one of our daimyos, im bit worried about. IrishArmenian has not been online after 13.4 and i hope everything is well with him, since i doubt he would just leave without saying anything, him being one of the most active players in the game.I hope you are well where ever you are. Also if anyone has problems with game mechanics or anything to ask what can be done and what not, please just ask. I already have tens of clans to play myself and i dont want to effect the game too much and in worst case become biased for any side, so please dont leave the controll of your clans to me. Not one of the major Clans are not yet destroyed, but that will happen eventually. I hope everyone has enough sportmanship to bare it and i encourage to take a new aspect if you are defeated by picking another clan.

In 30th of May, inside the Chosokabe capital Nagahama castle, Mori Motonari, the retired head of the Mori Clan committed Seppuku. His body and head was cremated with proper burial rites. Lord Chosokabe Motochika has dispatched the Mori navy together with the Soldiers who followed Motonari, back to Aki province, with his condolences to the Mori family.
Announcement From Mori Clan
Because of the current situation, Mori Clan cant properly mourn for our dead Lord, but as left behind, we will honour the memory of our Lord and will not become retainers of Otomo and Amako. We wonder should we after such surrender, soon fight against each other, brother against brother, since it wont be long until the hunger for land will turn the invaders from Kyushu against Lord Amako. Our advice to Lord Amako would be to destroy the invaders as well, if you cant make peace with us. It is only matter of time when the greedy Otomo and Shimazu will invade you again.
To Yamana, who is calling us cowards. I Mori Motoharu, who after my fathers passing away assumed the name Mori again, will challenge Yamana Toyosada to an duel in a place of his choosing. You cant call us cowards, without proving it personally.

Your slander will not rock the determination of honorable men. It was your fathers uncontrollable greed that gave me an excuse to lay claims to his lands. I cannot stand a backstabber, such men must be removed from positions of power, or this land will never know peace. Obviously, even backstabbing a backstabber is unforgiveable, and for this God has punished me. I'd kill myself right now just to remove my shameful presence from this land, but I've taken it on me to clean Nippon of all kind of filth before I go, and to turn it over to worthy hands.
I need your lands to accomplish this, your father gave me a reason to take them. Amako Yoshihisa has yet to give me a reason to strike him. I hope he will never give me one. And if he does not, I swear by God, I will never attack the Amako again.
Now you could turn your lands over peacefully and spare your people, or you can have us pry them out of your cold dead hands. Make no mistake about it, we will have them, sooner or later,

I would like to add that certain clans do not stand on their words. I expected at least a vague comment for the passing of Mori Motonari, Kyushu Tandai. From Ôtomo Sorin to Miyoshi Chokei:
Let it suffice to know this:
Anyone who acts justly will have the might of clan Ôtomo behind him
Anyone who acts dispicably will have the might of clan Ôtomo against him
As you know, I have already found reason to destroy Asakura Yoshikage, a murderer of defenseless and innocent people, his own for that matter. As long as I draw breath he will find an untiring enemy in me, and I will not rest until he's been rightly destroyed. Anyone who align with him is my enemy, and anyone who opposes him is my friend.
You send your own daughter to marry this man? What are you thinking? I will stand for letting her, and her escort out of Inabayama without harm, if you order them to return home. Do not make the mistake to support Asakura Yoshikage, he has brought enough men with him in his ruin.
As far as I am concerned, you personally have much to attune for, your past mistakes as Kanrei, to issue orders to persecute christians, to support men for no purpose but your own gain, regardless of their alligience, while abandoning faithful supporters of the administration that you serve.
Ask yourself, why should I stand up for and support a shogunate that handles its subject in such a manner? I will support what's good for this country, not what's good for individuals, for no other reason than empty ranks and titles. A title should be properly honored before it means anything at all,

I would like to add that certain clans do not stand on their words. I expected at least a vague comment for the passing of Mori Motonari, Kyushu Tandai. After all he sent them a help during the siege of Ise. But of course, your help is more important now. Blindess and being deaf towards your allies and your honour is a good feature for the coalition of Oda, Asai and Otomo.
Our war against the Asakura has little to do with honour. He struck me without remorse at a weak spot and I was able to return the favour due to the stupidity of the Asakura lord. If there had actually been a way to fight this war in Owari successfully I would had done that. As to the casualties among the Asakura family, they are unfortunate victims of this cruel war started by Asakura himself as is Shibata Katsuie and other Oda retainers. I did not want this war, but I'll damn well fight it to its bloody end. As to you Miyoshi, you should had acted sooner to successfully pursue your ambitions.
Oda Nobunaga
Mori Motonari was a traitorous swine! You yourself saw the Letter from himself saying he would support me against you, his passing is a blessing upon Japan! His sons will reclaim the clans honour and fight to the end if needed. You had a choice of sides in this war Miyoshi and your lack of decisiveness moved you to choose the wrong side, and make a fatal decision with your actions in doing so. Asakura started this war, i offered him the chance to bck down and be allowed to retreat to Echizen, he declined and will die for his stupidity. Why would i not allow my ally Otomo a chance for some revenge upon the persecutor of his faith in the process? As for not attacking Owari? A lesson in war for you Miyoshi "Never interupt your enemy when hes making a mistake".

I have this feeling there should've been more clans in Kyushu.
Ito, Shoni, Aso, Akizuki, Arima, Ryuzoji, Kimotsuki.
I think Otomo and Shimazu had it too easy.

Read the early chapters. Ito, Sagara, Akizuki and Ryozoji were destroyed. Before the alliance between Shimazu and Otomo, it was Otomo that was almost destroyed.
