I won't be back until Saturday, but I have access to a computer with internet. It doesn't, however, have the game installed. So I won't be able to play for the remainder of the week. If phonics would be so kind and keep subbing for me, that would be most appreciated.

I have to hand it to you, Tristan, you know your autocalc. Too bloody well for my liking. One day, when we are no longer fighting one another, you will have to teach me :D

Save for England

http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/pbm/Britannia-24-1.rar

Was nice playing although I wouldn't have done it like Cheetah...

If you play it once again, I'll take Norway again just to see what it is possible to do with it...

barcamartin
03-25-2008, 20:53
I must say that you put up a harder fight than anyone could have expected. You truly went down fighting, and you deserve alot of credit for your efforts in this hotseat !:applause:

Indeed, Tristan, now that it's (finally) over, let me also say thankyou very much for making this a whole lot more interesting, and much much more challenging. I thought I had victory in the bag when I handed over to barcamartin, but then first Cheetah and finally you came up with such brilliance that it took a whole lot longer (and leaves bonnie Scotland minus two kings, and in shambles). But if I had to do it again, I would, because it was an exhilarating ride!

_Tristan_

It was an exhilarating ride!

Yeah...

Like I said in other games, I never fight better than when cornered...

There must be some badger- or boar-blood in me :inquisitive:

Anyway, I had a blast...

At the start I did it to be proud to hand Cheetah back a faction in a better state but seeing how he seems not to come back I tried my best to carve myself a Kingdom...

Too bad he had alienated the whole lot of you IC (but understandable...) and too bad I had no bargaining chip...

If England had remained neutral, I might still be fighting (their Nelson's fleet caused great harm...)...

I hope you can rise up from the ashes of your country and make your place in the world (though I'm afraid you'll be next to go...)

One reflection on the hotseat games : strange how it seems to bring out the agressive side of players... Even is SP, players will tend to attack only rebels, settle a little, wait for a betrayal or make a single attack on a neighbor but in MP games, it is a free-for-all from turn one when we could leave peacefully for many turns leveling up before turning on one another...

Like I pointed to Zim some time ago, these games tend to bring out the paranoia that we all share a part of...

Zim
03-27-2008, 11:10
Actually, it wasn't my fleet that made the killing blows against the Norse one. I was able to reach your main fleet with some of my ships but not enough to take it on. Scotland dealt the first blow, with my guys as reinforcements, then I think it was Ireland (not sure though) that took it out. Only after did I start wandering around the sea with multiple nearly full stack fleets.

MP does seem to make players more aggressive but diplomacy plays a big role in how paranoid they are. I refused to take a very good excuse to take out Wales early on when they (note, this was with their previous player) unwisely attacked a settlement of mine to gain leverage for a settlement they really wanted (in Wales proper). Instead I traded the settlement to keep the peace, even knowing no other country would help them against me at the time.

I also tend to trust allies not to attack me without cancelling the alliance a turn earlier or declaring war, much to my chagrin in the MPC and Teutonic games. I guess some of us are more naive than others.

_Tristan_

Actually, it wasn't my fleet that made the killing blows against the Norse one.

Yep, but I was prepared to deal with all others, your taking part (if only to assist) was decisive...

But no hard feelings...:2thumbsup:

Zim
03-27-2008, 11:40
I don't know, they might ahve had a chance without the 3-4 ships I contributed to the actual battle. :clown:

I think the real clincher was when William Wallace showed up right on the front lines. I'm not sure there was much you could do at that point, even if you had control of the seas and I hadn't taken Wick.

So, guys, on the off chance the new patch is not save game compatible, what shall we do? Trudge on without it? Decide the Kingdoms of Britannia live happily ever after and start a new game?

I find the part about fixing hotseat scrolls promising, although it probably doesn't mean what I hope it does. :clown:

phonicsmonkey
04-10-2008, 01:50
my vote would be carry on without it - we're 27 turns in!

I won't be patching until an official patch is released anyways

we can always patch a separate installation if we want to play patched SP

EDIT: think I misunderstood..

Zim
04-10-2008, 01:58
I was thinking of after the official patch came out. Game takes way to long to reinstall for me to use another leaked patch. :clown:

My biggest fear is that one or two of the games I'm in will start losing players if some people decide to patch. I'm not sure what I'd do if that happened. In the meantime, I'm perfectly happy to go on without the patch, although I suspect to be facing a multi-pronged attack in this game pretty soon. :sweatdrop:

Zim
05-03-2008, 04:40
Hey guys, I ran into a slight problem. I attacked a fleet in port this turn, and well, I was able to attack the fleet itself, rather than just blockading the port. I played around a bit, and it's a repeatable "bug". If I scout out the area first, so that I see the fleet in port, I can attack it. If I go for the port while it's in the FOW, I can blockade it as normal, without hitting the fleet inside.

I can try redoing it that way, but even if I try to retrace the steps I'd taken that turn, there's a good chance things would turn out differently. They turned out pretty badly for me, so being able to redo the turn might not be so great for you guys. :clown:

What do you think, this is a bug, isn't it? I can just play through, or redo the turn. Up to you guys.

deguerra
05-03-2008, 06:18
That better not be my fleet! :laugh4:

To be honest, I don't know if it's a bug. To be certain, I was under the impression that fleets in port can only be blockaded, but perhaps this is another feature Paradox introduced into kingdoms without telling anyone.

In any case, if it is my fleet, feel free to continue. Scotland has no more use for boats anyway. However, I wouldn't really mind you replaying that turn either, so long as you don't give yourself too much of a benefit of hindsight. But I know you wouldn't do that.

Have I helped you make a decision? Not at all

Zim
05-03-2008, 06:21
Paradox? I don't remember being able to attack ships in ports in EU3. :clown:

I could try to replay every step, but since I lost pretty much every roll of the dice in this turn (except, ironically, the fleet battle. Maybe the game felt sorry for me. :clown:), just doing that might change things in my favor.

I've noticed a lot of patches for Magni Mundi Gold 2. I'll probably get it after a few more or done.

I admit to being a sucker for the more sandbox like characteristics of vanilla, so I tend to play it when I do small nations. :sweatdrop: Also like to do multi country aars, which I don't think work as well with MM (due to some of the scripted historic events).

Still, one of my favorite games was one I did an aar for MM Gold 1 as Austria. :beam:

I'm starting a new aar that's meant to be interactive for the readers. Check it out if you'd like.

Edward would possibly consider withdrawing his fleet if Wallace withdrew. The fact that Wallace was far into my territory (as opposed to just over the edge) and likelihood of hearing next turn that "Wallace" decided he had to attack one of my settlements on his own made me think a demonstration of power might be more effective than waiting to be attacked. :clown:
