This battle works with the Mongol Invasion expansion and the Warlord Edition.
The battle of Mimasetoge in 1569 was a Takeda Shingen, Hojo battle following the Odawara siege by Takeda. Hojo outnumbered the Takeda, but Takeda broke through after a day of fighting and escaped.

 MTW_BattleOf_Nordlingen_HB.zip
A MTW battle for STW.
This is my first attempt to use the Shogun engine to simulate a European Battle.
The Thirty Years Wars is full of very good Battles and the weapoms are very similar
to that of late Shogun Battles.
I think that except for the lack of the guns (80 Swedish and 60 Imperial) the results
are interesting.

 MHC.zip
This battle is for the Mongol Invasion expansion or the Shogun Warlord Edition. It does not work for the original Shogun: Total War.
Konnichiwa,
I've played with the MHC last week, playing is not the right word here, it was more bloody
brainless rushing. In 5000 koku battles I used 1 KoreanSpear H4 armor 1 (he stayed way
back from any danger) and 11 honor 0 Mongol Heavy Cavalry at 408 koku each (0 koku left). The MHC
are a very strong and fast unit, 11 of them can cover the whole width of a field and will slay about
anything. I'm not a skilled taisho, but you might find the following hints useful.
A cure against a MHC rush is a high honor yarisam army: 5000 koku can buy 6 honor 4, 8 honor 3
and 2 honor 2 ysam leaving some 10 koku. One can fairly easily beat a MHC army, but such an army
is quite slow and not flexible. Speed is something the mongols have, 16 ysams against some MLC,
skirmishers, spears/grdsmen, and some MHC won't make that much change as the MLC will use hit and run
tactics at the edges, the MHC will finish the routers in no time. When the cav has crippled your army
the infantry will come in and you'll be finished.
I've made some historical battles, to allow you to train against MHC rushes. One could also use
the custom battle for this, but the historical battle allow you to fight against or with units consisting
of 45 MHC instead of 60.
The AI isn't very clever, so you might train the MHC counter online too. I think that Magyar Khan will
be a bit thougher MHC rusher (he can do much more than rushing).
Historical battles don't allow any other upgrades but honor. Both armies could spend 5000 koku.
Mongols:
1 H3 KoreanSpear Taisho
1 H2 KoreanSpear
11 H0 MHC
4968 koku total
Japanese
1 H3 Naginata Cav Taisho
6 H3 Yarisam
4 H0 Lsam
2 H2 No-dachi
1 H1 No-dachi
2 H3 Yari Cav
4980 koku total
PS. in a 5000 koku MHC rush are the 11 h0 MHC important, the taisho is only the rallypoint.
This Japanese army is good if you expect a MHC rush but also wants to be prepared for other threats.
6 H3 Yarisam are not required to beat the MHC rush, you could go for 5 Ysam and 5 lsam, thus being better
armed against a balanced mongol army.
Mongol cavalry is very fast, keep units together or you'll get hurt. One danger here, the bombers:
they have a weak range and are a minorty, finish them asap with your lsam or nods before they create
havoc.
Put ysam on hold formation and hold position, don't attack MHC with ysam but endure the attack, you'll
get nice defence bonusses. Idle ysam can and must of course be used to flank MHC, but beware: by moving
ysam you'll create openings for other MHC to passs and attack your lsam, nods and back.
Put lsam on hold formation and position too, this is always a nice option to consider, but in the case
of Mongol cav, skirmishing is futile. Place them on hold and keep firing. In case of a MHC rush
you would put them behind the Ysam wall. In case of a MLC army you might want to use extra range and place
them in front of the ysam. Advance the Ysams when the enemy charges, thus the protecting lsam.
Use the YCav to backstab and flank engaged MHC.
Don't forget about the taisho nagcav, but don't expose him to great dangers.
MHC has an increadible morale, even at H0. Don't think that you won once some run away, and don't
chase them with the YC. Instead of that use the YC to close engaged MHC in and destroy them
till the last man. Regroup the ysam wall and prepare for the next attack or advance a bit.
ALWAYS KEEP THE UNITS TOGETHER.
There are 4 folders: copy all 4 into shogun/battle/batinit/historical battles, copy the Green.jjm and
Green.TGA to shogun/battle/maps. The 4 battles can be selected from the game menu, historical battles.
MHC 45 Mong vs Jap gives you MHC units consisting of 45 men, you'll fight against the Japanese army.
MHC 60 Mong vs Jap gives you MHC units consisting of 60 men, you'll fight against the Japanese army.
MHC Jap vs 45 Mong gives you the Japanese, you'll fight 45 men MHC units.
MHC Jap vs 60 Mong gives you the Japanese, you'll fight 60 men MHC units.
Have fun

 Plateau of Death
A fictional and fun battle by Doug Barnett.
The Plateau of Death
I hope you enjoy the battle!
Summary of Scenario:
Your army is not assembled in any defensive or offensive formation when the game begins, as you have just entered the area. These are your best troops, but there aren't a lot of them. Your general's unit is only 3 men, so earn your honor carefully!
Your ally, Migata Itchitushi, is defensively positioned on the plateau at the moment. However, with 3 large forces converging upon him, he may not stay there to fight it out. Make sure your ally doesn't leave you in a hopeless situation.
Extra files:
There are 2 extra .bmp files included in plateauzip. These are Shogun Faces for Nakayu Onyunagen and his nemesis, Mojo Bada (the defiant mad monk).
Nakayu.bmp
Mojo.bmp
Installing:
1. Unzip PLATEAU.ZIP into a temp directory.
2. Put folder called "Plateau of Death" into: shogun\Battle\batinit\Historical Battles directory.
3. Put files "Plateau.jjm" and "Plateau.tga" into: shogun\Battle\maps directory.
4. Cut and paste text file "Historical-append" at the end of the file called "Historical" in the shogun\loc\eng directory. See below.
Example of text paste:
.....On the morning of the 13th day after Nobunaga's death the two armies met across the Enmyojigawa river."}
["Yamazaki_Conditions_Label"]
{"Annihilate the enemy."}

 BKValley.zip
Fictional and fun battle by Doug Barnett.
Valley of Bad Karma
This scenario is fictional and was originally a "test" scenario to learn map editing and the ins and outs of creating a "Historical Battle." Needless to say, I now have gray hair, a nervous twitch, and I'm more than ready for the Funny Farm. I hope you enjoy the battle!
Summary of Scenario:
Your army is not assembled in any defensive or offensive formation when the game begins, as you have just entered the valley from the west road. The enemy is in a similar situation, having just entered the valley.
Since the enemy is on the defensive, and the fog is thick, you have time to maneuver your troops before marching into the unknown. Don't waste too much time, however, as the battle clock is ticking.
Beware: the enemy has two forces and they may split to cause you unexpected trouble.
Additional files:
I've included a couple of extra files for the people out there that are into making maps.
"Mapgrid.pcx" Print this out and use it for planning maps. It also has visual aids for calculating Unit Facing and X,Y Map Coordinates.
"Commands.xls" Use Excel to print out this 1-page sheet of Shogun Battle Commands.
This is especially useful for those (like myself) who tend to play so many games that they get keyboard commands mixed up. Good grief, I need a life!
Installing:
1. Unzip BKVALLEY.ZIP into a temp directory.
2. Put folder called "Valley of Bad Karma" into: shogun\Battle\batinit\Historical Battles directory.
3. Put files "BKValley.jjm" and "BKValley.tga" into: shogun\Battle\maps directory.
4. Cut and paste text file "Historical-append" at the end of the file called "Historical" in the shogun\loc\eng directory. See below.
Example of text paste:
.....On the morning of the 13th day after Nobunaga's death the two armies met across the Enmyojigawa river."}
["Yamazaki_Conditions_Label"]

 NagashimaDelta.zip
1574, the third and final siege of Nagashima. Oda Nobunaga destroyed this large Ikko Ikki fortress.
This is the first custom made rivermap in Shogun Total War. It's actually older, as it is a port from an earlier created custom battle for the alpha demo.
NagashimaDelta by TosaInu
Place the entire NagashimaDelta folder with its contents into the
Historical Battles folder :\shogun\battle\batinit\Historical Battles
Copy the NagashimaDelta.jjm and NagashimaDelta.tga to the Maps folder
:\shogun\battle\maps
Open the append.txt in this folder, copy its contents and paste this
into the Historical.txt just before
SetShowTransOff // Do not translate.
//???? Remove when localised.
The Historical.txt can be found in :\shogun\loc\eng
Or choose the folder of your own language version.
The English version of Historical.txt is included to illustrate the
result. If this is your first custom scenario you could also use this
file.
You can select this battle from your Historical Battles.
Warning: this map can also be selected in Custom Battles. Do not do this.
There is a river on this map and there are no bridges, both armies will
be placed on opposite river banks. Even worse, the map contains 'no go
zones' (it's a swamp!). As a result the computer might crash if troops are
initially placed inside these zones.
This battle is (briefly) described in Stephen Turnbull's 'Samurai Warriors'.
Much care has been taken to make the map work. However, the demo editor is limited.
On rare occasions it crashed to the desktop on my system too (depends on enemy
strategy?) Please relaunch Shogun and give it a second try.
There are quite some units in this map, as a result you might notice some performance
decrease.
Have fun

 FullKawanaka.zip
This text was wirtten by TosaInu. I included some notes from another file he sent me.
In the zip file there are some files to play Kawanaka scenario, just follow the instructions below to play it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some notes for making scenarios for the full game S:TW.
The txt has been made with wordpad. (Notepad will mess the formating!)
I quickly put together one of my old scenarios for use with
the final game. It's not intended to be a nice scenario. Maybe you already
knew how to do this all. If not, thanks sonic-nights from Shogunzone
as he pushed me to work it out ;-).
The idea is that every scenario can be used in the historical battles.
Every scenario can be played from there, very easy! No more hassle with copy and relaunching the game! Here are some rules. I don't know wether all are necassary, but it works, it's structured and it's clear (I hope).
1. Make the bdf and adf files. You could use the editor from the demo
to try things out.
2. Make a new folder in \shogun\Battle\batinit\Historical Battles.
3. Give this folder the same name as the bdf file. In this case
"kawanaka".
4. Put the bdf and adf files in this folder.
5. Give the labels the same name as the bdf: i.e. Title::"Kawanaka_Title_Label" etc.
6. Use the map you desire. In this case TosaInu (it's actually just a renamed 4th
Kawanakajima). And put it in shogun\battle\maps. Hgt files are no longer required. The demo didn't need
them either, but generated one when missing.
7. Go to the shogun\loc\eng folder and open Historical.txt. For an english installation!
8. Append your Labels for the bdf at the end of the file. Beware: do not delete or insert Labels after
after SetShowTransOff // Do not translate.
//???? Remove when localised.
It will possible mess things up. Open Historical.txt and see the the Kawanaka labels I've added.
9. Now launch shogun and play your scenario via historical battles. The name of yours should be
in the list by now!
10. Use F2 to make a nice screenshot from either the battle or the terrain. The pause button might be handy! Also think about the icon bars. They are captured too. Hide them first? The Tga is just eye-candy. But it's big in size
TosaInu.tga is about 2 mb! You can easily do without it.
11. Go to the folder shogun\TGAs. Your picture is there. The file name is something like 000001.tga.
Give it the same name as the map you use: i.e. TosaInu.tga and put it in the shogun\battle\maps folder. You can check/edit your screenshot TGA with for example PaintShopPro.
Now that's not so hard, is it? One more thing should be said. The Historical.txt is archive, so you can't just
replace it. It would not be smart either. Consider A makes an scenario and updates Historical.txt for his scenario. B makes an scenario and updates Historical.txt for his and only his. Which one should the player use?
The game will undoubtly perform bad or even crash. My suggestion is to make your labels in a sepparate txt
file and humbly request the user to append it (copy and paste) to Historical.txt (append.txt). This way there will be no conflicts.
Most people will make english labels. There are however people with an Dutch or Swedish localisation. You could make labels for this languages too, but at least urge these users to append the labels from append.txt to their Historical.txt. So a Dutch should brows to Shogun\loc\Dutch.
Last suggestions. Be creative with names, do not call your files TutMap3. This will lead to conflicts when everyone does the same thing. One of Anjin-sans scenario's was called 'Plains of Meddigot'. Then call the map Meddigot or something. The same is true for the bdf file, for there will be many of them in the historical battles folder and Shogun should be able to identify them all by a unique name. The name for the adf files aren't that important as they are the only one in your scenario folder.
You can reduce the download size by either not including a tga file or by using a map that's already in the std install.
Here's a quick summarise:
1. A new folder inside shogun\Battle\batinit\Historical Battles name: kawanaka.
Put kawanaka.bdf and both adf files in this folder.
2. Copy TosaInu.jjm and TosaInu.tga into shogun\Battle\Maps
3. Copy all txt from append.txt. Browse to shogun\loc\eng and open Historical.txt. Scroll to the end of the document. You'll see other labels for historical battles here, paste the txt from append just before
after SetShowTransOff // Do not translate.
//???? Remove when localised.
Save the txt file!
Here are some later notes:
First thing: every unit should have an unique unitstart
string. I'm not sure about this one, but it seems to cause some crashes.
2nd: the demo adf files gave every unit a general. This might cause trouble
too. Give only one unit a general.
So for the first unit IsGeneral::true all other units IsGeneral::false.
