Bussing one's partner doesn't clear you, in a small game it is one of the few tactics which can be used with moderate success.

I know you hate weekends, and I know you hate not being able to give a right and proper defense. And if you turn out to be not mafia, I'll have the head of the person who accused you.

This is why I dislike investigator roles unless they're absolutely necessary. You're too much fun to have solidly concrete data on. It spoils the mystery.

How powerful is this investigation then? It seems it can provide a role role reveal.

I prefer the investigations in my game, they aren't absolute.

I still believe for game balance it will fail eventually, or the investigator will be killed.

But I've done enough WIFOM'ing for one day. I'm sure the mafia will kill me eventually, especially if I keep claiming to be powerful and then not dying.

No matter what, serial killers tend to be bad for the mafia unless they get lucky. 1 SK balances a game with 3 mafiosi in favor of the town due to crossfire.

So anyways, mister investigator, your services will no longer be necessary. You couldn't have found the Godfather through scans anyway, as he's scan immune as we suspected. If he's being honest, he cannot recruit and he should be the last of them. He has low strength and a basic killing power. Elan/God Emperor is Nale, as we figured. It is dangerous to rely too much on detectives. Sometimes you need to do a little sleuthing of your own.

Renata's the better lynch as she is stronger and we already have the votes.

Good game, God Emperor, Renata, and Cecil. Town actually did a reasonable job this time, I am impressed; sorry about the bad luck, I didn't think your play was that bad actually. The detective plus the Serial Killer, and other roles, made this game very difficult for you.

I am surprised we lost our mason team to WOG, but we really didn't even need them at all. Almost lost more than that as well, right YLC? :laugh4:

My play was not that bad. Sooner or later I'm going to be lynched or nearly lynched on the basis of just such a thing as I did with the Secura vote (and be a townie), because my schedule is too unpredictable to play well and thoroughly ("like myself") every single day. I just can't do it. But I'm heartbroken and feeling guilty as hell for the slip I made. It's the second mafia game I've lost for my team single-handed in the space of a week or so; and the fourth loss or near-certain loss as mafia in the last few weeks. In that time I've been a townie three times, for a grand total of five days alive. I'm just tired of it all.

It's not over yet...

The fourth day in the palace had been plagued by a morbid silence. It was with a troubled air that Lord Hinjo ascended the stairs of the Throne Room and looked at the handful of survivors. He began, his voice shaking for the first time since Shojo's death:
"It has been decided that I be put to the sword. The laws of this investigation are equal for all, and I will not resist. I hope that my end will ease the investigation and let you apprehend the culprits behind my uncle's death."
Hinjo fell silent again. No-one moved. Then, finally, one of the paladins of the guard approached Hinjo, reaching to take Hinjo's sword to fulfill the judgement.

In the blink of an eye, Hinjo had sprouted leathery wings and taken flight, his eyes glowing an unnatural red.
"And if you believe that I go down without fighting, you're even more naive than I thought!"
Sabine lashed out with the sword and the paladin fell back, wounded. The rest of the group woke from their stupor and when to assist him against the succubus.

Despite their numbers, it looked as if the succubus would prevail. She quickly swooped down and picked up a lance before rising back up, ready to drive the point into anyone who closed in. She smiled victoriously.
"So that's how brave the paladins of the Sapphire Guard are? Why don't y-"
"Disintegrate!"
A ray of magical energy hit Sabine square in the chest, and she collapsed on the floor, weak but still conscious. She was quickly overrun by the remaining members of the group.

"We cannot with good conscience reunite with the outside world unless we are sure to have eliminated the entire group of perpetrators. I suggest we go about doing this as we have done so far. That is all."

The seven remaining people each left for their own chambers.

It is now night 4! Day breaks in roughly 23½ hours!

He donned the 'Belt of Femininity' to become "AskthePizzaGuy_in_drag" to seduce God Emperor. God Emperor failed his 'spot' check, and was easily tricked, as if he is Elan. Then again, he is Nale pretending to be Elan, so it works out following the plot afterall.

The end is near...

In the fourth night, there was but a handful survivors. The recent deaths had greatly distressed the High Priest of the Twelve Gods, who now sat meditating in his room. He was brought out of his concentration when the door creaked, and he looked up nerveously.

A charming young man entered the room, surely to seek the counsel of the old priest. The old man smiled at the approaching stranger, too late realizing that he was concealing his left hand, and in it, a longsword.
"Good night, old man!"
The blow hit AskThePizzaGuy straight in the chest, and his old body was thrown to the hard floor, lethally wounded.

Elan was sitting in his room, plinking at his lute quietly. He played so quietly, in fact, that he heard the footfalls of an approaching figure, and he looked up at the newcomer and smiled. "Hey V, what're you doing up so late?"
The elf frowned. He looked at the bard with a great and sad determination in his eyes.
"Aren't you right-handed, Elan?"
"Oh, uhm, well, I try to practice both of my hands equally. So the strings don't cut my skin too much."
"You fully well know you cannot become Ambidextrous without the proper feat, Elan."
"Oh-uh, really? I had no idea."
"I think you do, Nale."

A magic barrier surrounded Nale, holding him in place.
"Now, I think I'll call the others, shall I?"
"Sound Burst!"

A roaring wave of noise expanded from the room out into the entire palace. Soon, everyone came running. Vaarsavius stood unmoving, merely gesturing at the paralyzed Nale. Quickly, Durkon got up to him, and casted Detect Evil.
There could be no doubt; They had apprehended the leader of the Linear Guild.

Background:
Vaarsavius is the elven Wizard of the Order of the Stick, and the most powerful in terms of sheer firepower. The downside of this is V's fragility in close combat, as well as his/her load of weak spots - V is not physically strong or of good constitution, comes off as a distanced loner who often treats others to either a good deal of snarking and sarcasm, or overly long speeches that exposes V's pride more than his/her actual intelligence. V also seems to lack a high enough wisdom score to have developed a moral compass of any consquence, although his time with the Order of the Stick is gradually beginning to repair at least the personal flaws, if not that of his stats.

V is in many ways an egocentric; he/she believes that, given enough time, he/she has the inteliigence and power to solve any problem. Obviously, things don't work out that way, which is why V is lucky to have the Order of the Stick around to help in times of need. V's underlying personality is still determined to do his/her best to solve every problem that the group encounters, however, and when faced by enemies who are out to kill you, logic quite clearly states that the best method of defense is a good attack; permanently disabling your enemies is a good way of making sure that they can never get back at you, and as V has the power to do so, it also falls as his/her responsibility.

Note that you are one of the very few characters in the game to have multiple abilities available to you. You may only use one every night.

Note that your combat strength is high enough to potentially save you from a night attack.

This, plus what I said in-thread about not believing any scan results on him, and wanting him dead, ramps up the pressure to an almost 100% chance of losing the game if he leaves me alive. This kind of pressure is the kind I only apply when I am supremely confident, otherwise people will think I am bluffing. Here, I wasn't bluffing, and I rarely ever use this kind of pressure, so you know I'm deadly serious about it.

Here, the only way God Emperor wins the game is to kill me, or..... if he thought I was not townie..... and revealed to me. The light bulb goes off in my head. I literally have the idea right around this point in the conversation, and then move forward with it on instinct.

Being a game designer and host of more games than I can count (thus the theme of the upcoming ATPG Mafia II) I have a strong instinct about game setup. Only really bizarre setups throw me for a loop anymore. I know the game isn't balanced unless the mafia have an ace up their sleeve, and I was betting the entire farm it was an anti-investigation one. That blunts the town's most important and powerful role, giving the mafia some breathing space.

Still, if you expect that, it doesn't work. Game still favors the town, as it usually does.

These things are interesting and suspicious, but using this circumstantial evidence and almost declaring them to be ironclad proof of guilt, and shining the spotlight on his direct connections to a certain scumbag, is the kind of pressure no mafia, anywhere, ever wants to have to deal with. That's why I do it, it's an attempt to cause panic. But, I don't like to waste such tactics on people I'm not already sure about, or else people will just expect I am bluffing and ignore me. It's important that these tactics remain potent, so I use them very very sparingly.

GE of course tells me he's always remained calm when I question him like this. I believe him, but he's sort of unique in that regard. Besides, it's not just the emotion of panic I am looking for, but also planting subversive ideas into an otherwise rational mind... such as making it seem like failure is absolutely unavoidable without a miracle... and then giving my target the same miraculous option they desperately need.

Given what I knew of Ge's tactical situation if he were mafia, he really did not have much of a choice. We still had a living doctor and investigator, and apparently, a vigilante. I don't blame him for accepting the coming offer.

So now, what is on God Emperor's plate, is that he is my main suspect, I'm very sure about him, I will refuse to believe investigation results clearing him, he is about to lose his final living ally to the lynch, I look very innocent from the town's perspective, and I also have access to the detective and his results and I strongly believe several other people are innocent.

This leaves God Emperor with too many adversaries and a highly unlikely sequence of events which must happen for him to win, starting with my death, the death of the doctor, the death of the investigator, and the death of anyone I happen to find innocent-looking. Then, he would have a shot.

Given the stark reality of the situation, even a high-risk and ill-advised move is still worth exploring.

This is almost a confession itself. Here, he knows he's never going to die by murder.

So, the only, only logical explanation is to predict that this will happen.... and suggest it is all part of the mafia's master plan.

Better would be to say "with all the suspicion on me, I highly doubt I'll be attacked", but he's viewing it from the mafia's angle, which leads to the natural "the mafia would be wise to leave me alive".

I'm afraid it's been said many times before, almost always by scums of some kind.

He goes back to defending himself, which was a little out of the blue. I re-direct him back to the topic I wished to discuss. I wanted him to start pointing fingers, like a real townie should in this situation. "If you die and are town, who should I pressure?" is the sort of question I often ask my fellow townies that I suspect are mafia. I've noticed that the mafia will either hesitate to suggest someone, and hesitate further to apply pressure to that person (for fear of OMGUS votes and otherwise having attention lavished on themselves) whereas townies have generally been good about naming their top suspects. Mafia don't have "top suspects" that they can name offhand, townies do.

The final sentence is damning. He knows Beskar is going to be scanned as innocent, and that he's totally doomed.

Gotta work on that poker face, God Emperor.

Added credibility: Act like I would actually act as a neutral role, which is "cover my bases" and bluff that I am a bad kill anyway... because I'd survive somehow.

All my actions to-date can be explained by a desire to not be lynched, to quickly kill the mafia, or possibly direct the mafia's kill away from me, even with a bluff.

The lie adds credibility to my story, because it sounds like what neutral Pizzaguy would say.

Subtle details make or break all lies. If something doesn't feel right instinctively, it's probably because of a little usually unnoticeable detail like that.

I have to throw myself into the character to remember such details.
