If the Military grow too strong we'll have a full on coup on our hands, we cannot let our empire be given over to them, they serve us well, but they would not lead us well, I fear.

And if the military grows too weak you'll have a barbarian invasion on your hands. Ever think about that, or were you too busy looking at statues to notice?
I maintain the same stance I cited earlier; the republic will remain a republic, though I might add that hegemony is not necessarily a bad thing, if only for a little direction.

Fast editing there, Double A. I was about to ask why you thought you had a double vote.
Also; Pizza :shame: The only faction that I have never made a move against, and you repay me like this? Where are the honest men of Rome?Oh right you're merchants

My word...
I think I've found the only thing I love besides gold.
I can see my taxes are being put to good use with this military. Defend our borders, heroes of Rome! Make the other countries fear us! Perhaps then, they would put aside their swords, grovel for mercy, and then engage in a fair trade....
Isn't all trade fair trade? :cool4:
It is time we bring the populists down to the level we want them to be on

I agree that Commander Secura is rather pleasing to the eye. However fair trade, ha, that's non-existant these days. And I can't get a good pizza.
I can't help but notice that people are still taking potshots at my faction even though it is the smallest. I don't like that at all.

2. Elections
Correct me if I'm wrong but here is the current tally:
God Emperor(4): God Emperor, Askthepizzaguy, robbiecon, Secura
Diamondeye(2): Diamondeye, Romanic
3. And after all that time we have almost the same situation as we had in the beginning. Well, don't worry people, things will get better next turn.

The Populists offer nothing to this Republic.
The Merchants offer goods and services, and pay more than their fair share of taxes. We also don't need to leech off of the state. The Military which we pay for defends our very lives, and allows the peace which results in trade. Without our soldiers and generals, we could be invaded and our goods stolen by some barbarians. The Civic-minded among us pave our roads and build our economy from the ground up, and keep our government functioning. The religious keep our people righteous and fair-minded.
The odd ones out are the bloody populists. Filthy worms, that's all they are! Drawing graffiti on the palace walls, stealing from the granary, snatching goods off of our carts... they live in squalor and filth and aren't even fit enough to fight for Rome.
What manner of men are these? They're not men, they're rodents!

Commander Secura
of the Military Faction
Lords of the Senate!
I return from our lands further afield where the effort to fully incorporate the local peasants into our glorious empire are proceeding as planned! There are some problems in the northern reaches of the lands, but our military might will soon bring the barbarians into line if diplomacy will not!
In the meantime, I suggest staving off this assault against the Populist faction, they have not had their say for some time now and I feel that their purported voice of the common man might come in use for concluding our campaigns abroad as swiftly and peacefully as possible.

Commander Secura
of the Military Faction
Consul God Emperor!
Why, pray tell, have you decided to neuter the military arm of the Republic like so? Have we not supported the faith enough?
A more pressing matter is at hand which bears your judgement; if you observe the numbers of each party, you will notice that two members of the bureaucracy have mysteriously switched to the merchant cause overnight!
This turncoat attitude may have been funded with denarii that should be going into the state coffers; how far will this go before the votes of the entire Senate have been bought in the darkness?
I say we clip the wings of the problem before it escalates to that!

I totally agree. We can let the Merchants take control, we're no Phoenician weaklings. Look where a trading empire got them.
Power to the people, and a strong army to protect us, everything else is a luxury.
The merchants should stay in their bazaars, the priests in their temples, and the civ... er, civicers in their.... in their civic houses!!

That's what I think of your proposal, o poppingest of populists. Now excuse me while I eat this chicken without chewing. It's so good, but I don't need to taste it. I have people who do that for me. I pay them in a week more than you'll earn in 10 years toiling in the fields.
*belch*
The merchants are a vital part of our empire and I wouldn't dream of ousting them from these halls.
However, I simply cannot condone such underhanded coercion and feel that it should be met with repercussions from the Consul.
I would never dream of offending the elite soldier class. You fine folks always purchase supplies and horses and weapons. You even pay for stones, if they are nice and hurl-worthy.
The soldiers cost much, but give much in return.
Speaking of which, this chicken is starting to feel hurl-worthy.
But how long before you attempt to convince our own representatives with a palm full of denarii?
