Another subtle move by Senator GE, to creep into your heart before the fatal attack.

Fact is, he's a religious man, yet he's quoting some poet instead of the holy scriptures. He's a fake, with a hidden agenda, please thread carefully around this evil man.

Lords and ladies of the Senate!

While the Populist movement continues to gather momentum and grow in popularity with the people, it is here in these very halls that their true contributions to the state are shown.

Thus far we have seen their representatives willing to denounce our holy men with slanderous calls of heresy and evil... are these truly the words of the common man? Or, for that matter, the words of those we can entrust the running of our vast empire?

What say you, the merchants of our fine empire? Your silence does you no credit or justice here.

    Representative of the Populists!

You say that the people require a voice, but to what end? Are they not content with everything that we have provided?

Their lands are bountiful with produce, kept safe from barbarians by the military and their goods bought by our merchants. Criminality is a non-issue, taxation has been at a constant low for years now and societal laws are more lenient than ever!

These halls discuss diplomatic, administrative and religious matters beyond the common man; so why the requirement for a voice?

Additionally, your concerns about my interest in the Senate are unwarranted and, if I didn't know any better, sound highly accusational. And I had hoped that you would have stopped at our clergy, how foolish of me!

I am a protector of the realm, and it is largely thanks to the efforts of my soldiers and I that this proud republic stands, in addition to the fine work of the administration, our merchants and the church.

I have no designs on controlling or dissolving the Senate, or any other nonsensical notions like it; the Republic will remain as such until the Senate and the people decide otherwise.

    "Commander Secura,

"It is the duty of myself and my colleagues of my party to make sure that senate never loses touch with that which is its raison d'etre; The People. Need I remind my fellow senators why we are here? The Senate represents the people! We are here to act out the will of the people. That is our privilege and our duty. And I am here on behalf of those who are not lucky enough to have the law, the sword, the gold or the gods to speak for them; I am here to see to it that the Head of the Republic, the Senate, never loses its connection to its body, The People.

"You are right that many of the people whom I represent would not know how to fare in these halls, which is what makes my presence here important; It is through I that the common man speaks. I am who grants him his voice in the matters that will surely shape his life and that of his family for generations to come.

"I apologize if I have used a rough tone with some of you, fellow colleagues, but it angers me to see the ideals of the Republic of Rome so questioned. On that note, allow me to add that I pay the same thanks to our proud soldiers that I do to our priests, our judges and tribunes, our merchants of all trades, and all other good Roman citizens; They serve the republic through each their own required role, and as you are here on behalf of our legions, so am I here on behalf of all those men who makes Rome what it is each day; from the lowliest cobbler and fisherman to the very top of society amongst the nobilitia, their voice lends mine its strength.

"I am still of the opinion that reining in God Emperor's common influence in the senate will help to balance the scales of power should he be elected Consule today."

    Representative Diamondeye:

It is your duty, first and foremost, to uphold the integrity of the state; the lives of our people are certainly of the upmost importance, but they are nothing compared to the sacrosanctity of Roma itself.

You mention priveleges, but that is not why we're here; we are here because we are the greatest minds in our respective fields, which is precisely what is required to run our glorious republic. The common man would be here himself, if he was only a patron of the collegia rather than the taverna.

I do not oppose the common man making his opinions known to the Senate, but dictating the course of diplomacy, economics or the bureaucracy? That is a different matter altogether.
