Chapter 27- The Romani Threat
After a year of being in prison, I, as with most of the other “political prisoners,” have been let out on good behavior. It seems as if a lot went on in the year I was gone, or at least that’s what a friend told me. Koson also re-instated the Council on the threat of civil war.
A month after I was thrown in jail by the Drobeta regime, Koson tried to lead his troops to attack the Koinon Hellenon.
It failed because his troops refused to betray an ally.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...lmovingout.jpg
We discovered a Pontos spy in Tylis. Koson was rebuked by the Council as to how w let our guards down in Thraikia. But finding a spy in Tylis wasn’t the worst of things. Pontos began a siege on Byzantion and our sworn enemies took hold of Pergamon, but I doubt they will hold it for long.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...iaminor236.jpg
But there was an incident that almost tore the confederation apart.
In the fall of 236, two months before I was released, patrols discovered a large Romani army on the outskirts of Sarmiszegethusa, which only had a modest garrison.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...eatatfirst.jpg
We sent out the garrison to perform maneuvers in sight of their camp. They hung about until winter approached, then retreated to the outskirts of Singidunum, where another Romani army merged with it.
The alarm was raised, and members of the garrisons of Naissos and Serdike headed towards the intruders.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...nwinter237.jpg
But before any violence erupted, our diplomats found their weakness: money.
For a cost of 50,000 mnai, which Koson per Drobeta provided out of his own pockets, the Romani army defected to our side. How he got that much money no one stopped to consider at the time. Meanwhile we sent the bribed army to the Bosporus where they would do little harm, if any at all. We would “deal” with them later.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...hreatended.jpg
Bask in Buridava, the Council was in chaos. The Romani, the second most powerful nation after us, has their eyes on our provinces. Representatives from Sarmiszegethusa and Singidunum demanded to know why the intruders weren’t detected until they were at the doors of Sarmiszegethusa. Security had been lax in those areas, due to the offensive in the Hellas. As a result, the chief of intelligence, Rhexmaxos per Buridava, was relived of his duties.
It would have been so easy for the Romani to have invaded and taken those two vital trade cities. The council demanded action from our new Vasil, or Sarmiszegethusa and Singidunum would secede from the confederation.
But a Vasil who is in the south isn’t much help in the north, for as soon as he sent the 50,000 mnai to bribe the Romani with, he returned to Demetrias to plan for the invasion of Chalkis, the last Makedonian holding in Europe. When he presented his plans, which would require taking forces from central Thraikia to Hellas, to the Council, it was immediately vetoed. The Council demanded that he first deal with the “Romani dilemma,” as they dubbed it, and they wouldn’t release the forces to him until he took care of it with it, or at least left enough forces to deal with an invasion when it came. Furthermore, it needed the forces in Thraikia to deal with Pontos if they made a move towards Tylis. Ceding to the Council, Koson ordered for a full strength army to be sent near the border towns with the Romani. He also implemented a draft, which probably is the reason why he let so many political prisoners out of prison. We need as many able-bodied people as possible.
The “Romani dilemma” in the west wasn’t the only thing that was on the minds of the Council. To the southeast, Epeiros was in a stalemate with its war with the Romani, and its armies were waiting around on the coast, apparently waiting for the order to attack Thermon, Pella, or the Romani in the north. We prayed that it wasn’t us. Those elephants look mean.
To make matters worse, it seems as if the Koinon Hellenon are preparing for war with someone. Hopefully they would take Chalkis so we can concentrate all of our forces to the west and the north. It was a trying time, but I am confident we will get through it.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../looksouth.jpg
The Koinon will probably betray you and siege Chalkis if you take it. :smash:
And by the looks of those stack, they are more of a threat than the pitiful Romani. ~D
ya- the romani will be easy- even if they did attack Sarmiszegethusa, they would have been defeated sondly b/c all i had there were falxmen and a few archers. :beam:
Whoa! It's back! I thought this was dead for good, but you came back with a big update and everything! Awesome, keep it up.
thanks Chaotix for keeping faith :beam:
meanwhile, heres how i feel about this AAR-

you should read the entire thing becasue its pretty important....
Chapter 28- Council in Session
In the spring of 236, the Council sent spies to the south of Hellas, where the Koinon Hellenon, our allies, resided. There they discovered a huge army near Korinthos and another one near Athenai.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...y14/hellas.jpg
It was a matter of great concern to the Council. Where was it headed? It was undoubtedly waiting orders from the Southern Hellenic Assembly, which ruled over the Greek city states in southern Greece. Based in Athenai, they were reliable allies- for now. However, the Spartan king, a powerful member of the assembly, did not take a very positive attitude towards our great confederation. He was reported to have even thrown a diplomat down a well when he didn't like the terms offered. In Sparte, the warriors were the diplomats.
Where this large army was headed was unknown to us. Hopefully it would be headed for Chalkis, but in the meantime, we had to prepare for the worst- an attack on Demetrias.
To prepare for an attack, we needed an army in position to respond.
One of the Councilmen from Serdike, named Kazurus, had an idea.
“Why don’t we send the general who we just bribed down there with a mercenary army? He has good commanding skills, as his record shows. He would be perfect to deal with any Koinon Hellenon problems.”
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...newgeneral.jpg
A Councilman from Naissos, named Tauros, objected.
“What if he defects to the Koinon Hellenon, or even worse, Makedonia? We all know how he is partial to money. He betrayed his own homeland for money! There’s no telling what he will do! That would spell disaster for all our operations in the region.”
“Councilman Tauros has a point.” Said Councilman Kazurus. “So here is what I propose- we give him bodyguards of all men who are fiercely loyal to us, and they don’t allow any diplomats to approach him. Furthermore, let us offer him 10,000 mnai a season for him to stay with us.”
“Are you mad?! 10,000 mnai?! That will drain our treasury faster than a hole in a jug!”
“Then what would you rather us do? His army is the only one not tied up in some operation or another. Once we raise a suitable garrison for Demetrias we can move the field army that is defending it now out of there and onto its next destination, and the mercenary army can be disbanded or sent to the Bosporus to be forgotten, as we do with all of our useless mercenaries. ”
“What if we send the mercenary army to Ak-Ink, to impede the Romani advance?”
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...uy14/akink.jpg
“Objection! Two problems: one, he may lose heart at fighting countrymen and switch side mid-battle, and two, he may betray us as he did them and go back to his homeland, turning over Ak-Ink to the Romani. The bloodshed will have been worthless. In addition, we can’t just send the mercenaries to the Bosporus. Many of them are really good units. Apparently, it's Borat, or whatever he calls himself, who is the problem.”
Councilman Diales, the son of the famous spy, spoke up.
“Why don’t we replace him with a general whose loyalty is in no doubt?”
The head of the Council, Tarsa per Drobeta, also the heir to the throne, spoke up.
“But then where will we put him? Have him reside in Buridava for the rest of his life? We can’t do that. We must put him in combat at some point or another, or he may defect because he feels that he wasn’t being appreciated!”
“So why don’t we just kill him and say he never existed?” Diales looked a bit excited, for he was also the newly appointed intelligence chief. “I could frame him for some crime so we won't have to go through all of this.”
“Diales, my father did not pay 40,000 mnai out of his own pocket just to have him killed off the bat. Besides, everyone already knows about the bribe, and they will wonder what happened to him. I have a better idea. Send him and his mercenary army into the mountains between Pella and Demetrias to help defend the area. Once we raise a suitable garrison for Demetrias, we pull the field army acting as a garrison out and replace “Borat” as commander of the defense forces in the region. Then we can send “Borat” constantly busy with dealing with the many small rebel camps that spring up from time to time.”
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...onforborat.jpg
“Your excellence, that is a great idea. Will we also pay him the 10,000 mnai a season?”
“Yes, and Seuthles, write up his payments but make sure that the terms state that the payments will be terminated once he is moved out of Hellas. Once he is out of the area, it will be lowered to 5,000 mnai, the standard for all Getic generals.
“Yes sir, it will be done.”
“Meanwhile, we must decide on what to do with the Skythian Noble Cavalry. They are costing us and it's very hard to retrain them as we extend our lands further south. Therefore, I propose that we replace them as our standard cavalry with the Thraikian medium Cavalry.”
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...newmaincav.jpg
“But they aren’t as strong as the Skythians and they have a very good record.”
“Seuthles, would you rather pay for them to journey the hundred miles or so north to retrain them?”
“No, I would rather not. So what do we do with the current units of Skythians we have?”
Councilman Diales spoke.
“Why don’t we send them all to the south and keep them in reserve? Surly it will take a while for the Thraikians to train and our armies in the south need to have their cavalry support When they are done training we can pull out all the Skythians and hold them in reserve in Thraikia in case we need a quick cavalry strike on an enemy army.”
“Wonderful idea Diales! Now we need to deal with the Makedonians. Should we invade Chalkis as soon as we have the forces?”
Tarseraden, the lead member of the defense council raised his opinion.
“Nay. The Koinon Hellenon has their eyes on Chalkis. By invading Chalkis, we may bring the wrath of their armies against us. We need allies now, not enemies. I suggest sending assassins to kill the Makedonian generals and family members, in an attempt to cause civil strife within the remnants of Makedonia.”
“Ornes, authorize the recruitment of assassins to carry out what Tarseraden said.”
“It will be done.”
But the head of finances had one last question.
“How much money should be allotted for this?”
“Seuthles, put aside 15,000 mnai for this. Meanwhile, do you think the people will take a 5% increase of taxes in order of national defense? Even with the 40,000 mnai a season tax from each city, it may not be enough to fund future operations.”
“I'm not sure though, but we can try and see what the response is.”
“You do that then. The last item on the agenda for the week: Duda, the client ruler of Singidunum has died. Should we appoint Duda II, his son, as governor? He has no real talent in much, even at the age of 30.”
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...14/newDuda.jpg
Tarurones, the elderly head representative from Singidunum, approved of Duda II.
“Duda II, the eldest son of Duda, comes from a very popular family in Singidunum. Almost everyone likes him and his family. It would be a shame to not appoint him, even if he has no skills.”
“But isn’t there someone else who has more skills?”
“Don’t you remember? Duda, when appointed, had little skill himself. And look how well he turned out.”
“Nay, I don’t remember, for I was a little toddler when that happened. In any case, I accept your better judgment on this. Council dismissed.”
Thus ended the council session that would decide the course of our great confederation.
OMG i nearly peed myself reading that. Go Borat!! Sexy time. I am soooo glad you are continuing this. Awesome job man...simply awesome.
Chapter 29- The Covert War turns not so covert
Ever since the council made the decision to send assassins to Chalkis, things began to look very different in south Hellas.
Not only did we attempt killings on Makedonian generals and diplomats, we also sabotaged the Romani war machine, setting fire to every military barracks which we could find. We also killed the spies who penetrated our cities to gain valuable information to pass on to the Romani general who was able to penetrate so far into our territory. It was a covert war, no more, no less.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...sinkilled1.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...sinkilled2.jpg
We had our failures and success, as all wars do.
Our list of failures was especially long.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...14/thedead.jpg
(but really the list goes on for a few dozen more people....)
Our highlight of our successes was the assassination of the Makedonian heir-
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ledmakheir.jpg
We also tracked their diplomats around Europe and killed them before they could approach any other nation for an alliance. We did our job, for they made none.
But there was one unfortunate happening that changed southern Hellas forever.
One of our assassins accidentally killed a Koinon Hellenon captain, who was taking vacation near Athenai and looked similar to a Makedonian captain who we were really targeting.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...dKHcaptain.jpg
While war wasn’t directly declared, the Koinon Hellenon began sending its own spies and assassins to our cities. We did our best to catch them, but some got through and destroyed a few military installations.
But we struck back- hard.
We killed two Koinon Hellenon family members- one of them the heir and the defense minister for the Southern Hellenic Assembly.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...mberkilled.jpg
While that was going on, the Koinon Hellenon sent generals throughout former Makedonian lands to scout. Our forces followed them closely. A few others followed them as well.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../following.jpg
Before they left, it was debated in the Council whether to detain them or not. In the end, we decided not o arrest them, on the risk of causing a war, which we weren’t prepared for.
But as a precautionary measure, we formed another army, led by Tarsa per Drobeta, to assist his father, who by that time had gathered his army and moved out of Demetrias.
Meanwhile, “Borat,” who was taking up residence in the mountains of the Balkans, got word that he was marked for death in Roma. Now there was no doubt of his loyalty to us.
We moved him and an army carefully made to defend Demetrias, undoubtedly the first target for the Koinon Hellenon forces.
The main army, under Koson was still being formed when our spies notified us of a large force being assembled next to Athenai. Apparently, the Southern Hellenic Assembly had decided on war. The south part of the confederation went under red alert, and all available forces were sent south. The war drums are drumming, and only time will tell who will beat it in the end.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ewingstorm.jpg
comon people you know you want to comment. Interesting how they sent all those assasins into your lands. I rarely use them but I suppose they do have their strategic use
thanks chirurgeon. i actually got my inspiration for the spies/assasins after reading about the mossad and other spy agencies. if i may recommend a book, Gideon's Spies by Gordon Thomas.
amazing book- a must read!
Surely Borat would be Pahlav, Saka or Sauromatae?
damn! I wonder how many assassins you lost trying to kill the heir! I haven't even been able to kill any named character in my whole RTW life! :wall: :sweatdrop:
i lost 37 assassins in total, to be exact.
new update, coming right up!
Chapter 30- The Storm Arrives
In the summer of 230, the storm of war was right above us.
Instead of having Tarsa per Drobeta leading the second army, we let Amopaon Argeades, a former Hellen with a thirst for Koinon Hellenon blood, command the second army. He arrived in the area in the fall of 230. Tarsa would go back to Buridava.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...forrevenge.jpg
But before anything could be done, we had to make alliances.
First, we hammered out a ceasefire between the Makedonians and us.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...-wGetaiMak.jpg
Then our diplomats pounded out alliances with Pontos and the Arche Seleukia.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...wallainces.jpg
The alliance with Pontos would be handy, for they are our new neighbors…
After years of trying to take the town of Byzantion, in the winter of 231, they did it.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...tossuccess.jpg
Finally, taking it a step further, we even made an alliance with the Makedonians.
Sometimes the oldest enemies must unite against a common foe.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ornenemies.jpg
But in the Spring of 229, the Romani declared war on us, with the assassination of our senior diplomat in. the area
He was felled by an arrow, and attached to the arrow was the message, “This is the arrow of war. It has stricken and will strike again. – From your ‘friends’ in Roma.”
The entire north of the area was put on high alert and spies were sent out to report of any Romani activity.
(actually, a 3 unit Romani army attacked Singidunum (easily repelled), but i felt it wasnt important enough to document here)
Finally, in the winter of 229, we moved in.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...14/ready-1.jpg
But we didn't make the first move- A large Koinon Hellenon army under a lowly captain attacked us in the spring of 228, along with a nearby Koinon Hellenon patrol.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...starting-7.jpg
The battle began at around noon. The two sides waited for the fog to clear up a bit.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...overlook-1.jpg
The Koinon Hellenon advanced first.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ncingenemy.jpg
We waited patiently, which was hard for the Galatian mercenaries who were excruciatingly bloodthirsty. They had waited for a battle this size for a long time.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../waiting-1.jpg
The battle started with a massive cavalry charge to our left flank. It was repelled with ease.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...gcavcharge.jpg
While their cavalry fell back, their hoplites and other heavy infantry crashed into our center.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...nxfighting.jpg
While they were fighting, we sent our Thracians and Galatians behind them, who wrecked havoc.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...14/screwed.jpg
The Koinon Hellenon cavalry rallied, and charged back, but were countered by our cavalry.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...4/cavmelee.jpg
The ones that weren’t in the cavalry melee were attacked by the Galatians.
The cavalry was slaughtered by the Galatians, who craved for their blood.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...vslightcav.jpg
Soon all the enemy cavalry was in a rout.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...routingcav.jpg
It was at this time which we killed the captain of the larger of the two Koinon Hellenon forces on the field that day.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...tainkilled.jpg
Then the entire right and middle sections of the Koinon Hellenon army caved in and began routing. Shockingly, the elites were the ones who started the chain rout.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...tingelites.jpg
The mainstay of the Koinon Hellenon army followed, and was chased all the way by our men.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../chasing-1.jpg
The remaining part of the Koinon Hellenon force was the left flank, which comprised of a unit of classical hoplites and some levy archers.
The battle on that flank was short, but sweet.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...tsidemelee.jpg
Shortly after the battle on that side started, a deft slice with a rhompaia felled the commander of the Koinon Hellenon patrol.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...tainkilled.jpg
And before long the remnants of the once-powerful Koinon Hellenon army was on the run.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...14/lastmen.jpg
The carnage was great.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...carnage1-1.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...carnage2-2.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...carnage3-2.jpg
However, the carnage was on their side. The day was a resounding victory for us, only losing 150 men and they losing almost 2,230 men, a warning for all Hellenic forces to beware of armies who carry the Draco standard.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...results-13.jpg
But the past events had repercussions.
Not only did we lose two allies, we are now at war with two of the largest and most powerful nations on earth- the Koinon Hellenon and the Romani. And the Arche Seleukia recalled it's ambassador in Buridava because we would not break off diplomatic relations with the Sauromatae, who just invaded Arche Seleukia-controlled Media.
With the Sauromatae as our only reliable nearby ally, (Carthage is our other ally) our diplomatic stance in the world was precarious.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...omaticinfo.jpg
It had been an eventful past few years, but more were to surely come.
We just had to pray that Epeiros wouldn’t betray us now.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ofthesouth.jpg
Man this continues to be great. Its nice to see a barbarian nation standing up to the big boys of the ancient world. I love your Fail! pic :) Go Draco!
Chapter 31- More! More! More! War?
Soon after the first battle with the Koinon Hellenon, Koson retreated a bit to replace the few losses he sustained. He had a feeling the next battle was going to be large.
But in the meantime, the Council wanted to do something with all the mercenaries who had banded under the Getic flag. So they took another Romani turncoat, Servivus Cornelivs Blasio, was sent to take over Gáwjám~Bastarnoz.
There was no resistance and they gave up without a fight.
It was our first land acquisition in decades.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...successful.jpg
To the west, our scouts have spotted a train of Romani armies gathering near Ak-Ink.
We sent the local army, consisting of mostly mercenaries who have been lounging around for decades, to the area, to ward off attacks while we dealt with the Koinon Hellenon.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...omanitrain.jpg
Back in the south, Koson and his army soon found themselves face-to-face with another Koinon Hellenon army commanded by the best generals in Greece.
Another battle was imminent.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../facingoff.jpg
Sure enough, it came.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ackedagain.jpg
It was a clear, sunny day, so the battle had no delay in starting.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...overlook-2.jpg
The Hellenic army, eager for revenge, surged forwards.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../redeeming.jpg
The enemy slingers, who rushed forward to harass us, soon found themselves under fire by some very eager horse archers.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...nderfire-1.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...tingarrows.jpg
As that was going on, the Galatians and Thraikians awaited the enemy.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../moreblood.jpg
They came soon enough. First to arrive were the generals and their bodyguards.
As the Thraikians waited to receive them, one of them surprised them by doing a final sprint- right past the Thraikians! However, the Thraikians weren't dumb, and gave chase.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...oomingpast.jpg
The rest of the Hellenic army engaged our center, which easily held firm.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ntercombat.jpg
The Galatians had their hands full as well.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ansengaged.jpg
On the right flank, a large cavalry engagement was going on, but that was soon overshadowed with the death of the head enemy general.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...eneraldead.jpg
The levies in the center lost heart and began to flee.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...iesfleeing.jpg
But his bodyguards still fought on.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...gbodyguard.jpg
The other general was still embroiled in a vicious fight with our Komatai Epilektoi, and did not realize half the army was fleeing.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...bodyguards.jpg
Soon the main army was fleeing. Only the second general and his bodyguards remained in the fight.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...rmyrouting.jpg
When the enemy general saw what was happening, he sounded the retreat. But as soon as he turned his back to us, we swooped down and killed him.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...owngeneral.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...eneraldead.jpg
The entire Hellenic army was in full retreat. It's a pity we didn't have many light cavalry units, so many of them got away. But the ones we did catch up to were slaughtered without mercy.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ridingdown.jpg
The Galatians, on a bloodthirsty craze, chased them without mercy as well. At some points, they ran as fast as the cavalry to kill some of the fleeing units!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...anschasing.jpg
Soon only a few remained on the battlefield.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...rewedagain.jpg
Bodies were everywhere- mostly Hellenic.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...llenbanner.jpg
It was another great victory. Koson was regarded by many in the Southern Hellenic Assembly as the ”Scourge of Southern Hellas.”
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...results-14.jpg
(is it just me or do the KH rout WAY to easily?)
The 412 remaining enemy soldiers fled to Athenai, telling the Southern Hellenic Assembly of the horrible defeat they suffered under the swords of Getic soldiers.
With the defeat of the best-trained Hellenic army in the region, it seems as if nothing can stop us now!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...southin226.jpg
KH is an epic failure!
Chapter 32- The Romani move in- kind of….
It seems as if this decade is a very turbulent one- a battle at least every two seasons.
A few weeks after our resounding victory over the Koinon Hellenon, a modest army under the brother of one of the generals we bribed passed by our army on the border and besieged Sarmiszegethusa.
Our army in the region followed eagerly.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../newthreat.jpg
When the army got there and offered battle, the Romani retreated a bit.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...treating-1.jpg
We pursued them further, until we forced them into battle using some quick maneuvering.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...starting-8.jpg
It was another clear day, with a gorgeous view of Mt. Oroles, named after our greatest Vasil.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../overlook1.jpg
The Romani, being terrified after hearing what happened to the Koinon Hellenon armies a few months earlier, held back. Thus, we had to move in ourselves. Our horse archers went in first, raining hell on the Romani.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...HAsfireing.jpg
The Romani patiently took the fire. Like men, or like babies, we didn't know.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...takingfire.jpg
Then the Romani cavalry began to advance. Fearing that our valuable skirmishers would be able to get out in time, Rhemaxos per Drobeta ordered the skirmishers back, and soon after the slingers. The Galatian short swordsmen would take their place.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ngforwards.jpg
Soon enough, the Romani charged.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...manicharge.jpg
The attack was repulsed easily enough, but the attack was soon followed by the Romani infantry, many of them Gallic mercenaries.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ansinfight.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...nsinfight2.jpg
There the fight wasn’t as easy, and we had to send in the Thraikians and the Thraikian Assault Infantry to assist them.
Soon, a vicious fight was occurring, involving the highest echelons of the Romani ruling class to the lowly Gallic peasant.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ciousfight.jpg
Eventually, with the help of some last minute reinforcements, we pushed the Romani back, causing a general rout in the Romani ranks. The Thraikian medium cavalry remained to finish off the Romani general.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ngenemygen.jpg
The Thraikians failed, because Romani general fled like a coward off the battlefield before we could kill him.
Only a few mercenary Greeks remained, attacked on all sides by our men.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...stremnants.jpg
Our horsemen rode the enemy down, leaving few.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../lastmen-1.jpg
As with all battles, the carnage was great.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...carnage1-2.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...carnage2-3.jpg
But the day wasn’t fruitless- we left only 50 soldiers and the Romani general alive. But soon they would be dead as well.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...results-15.jpg
Immediately after the battle, we sent hordes of peasants who could shoot a bow to the woods around the battle site. The bounty for the Romani generals death was 1500 mnai.
Soon, a large amount of the bounty hunters found him and the remnants of his army in a small valley.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...14/archers.jpg
They slaughtered the Romani without mercy.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...eraldead-8.jpg
Only two men remained. We assume they fled back to Roma, but in any case, they weren't heard from again.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...rylast2men.jpg
But there wasn’t much time for celebration. Another Romani army, twice as large as the last, was approaching.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...pproaching.jpg
Even as they approached, we were literally staring at the faces of yet another Koinon Hellenon army, destined for destruction.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...esouth-225.jpg
It was going to be a turbulent decade indeed.
Getic cretin! :laugh4:
I would like your permission to nomintate your AAR for the AAR of the Month over at TWC. I need your blessing to do this. Here is the link if you want more info :) http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=182706
permission granted!
i am honored!
Cool lets see if we can get some EB representation over there!!
this is definitely one of my funnier chapters, IMO.... :2thumbsup:
Chapter 33- Yet another battle….
In the fall of 225, the Koinon Hellenon attacked us….. again…..
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...starting-9.jpg
Ironically, this was the exact same place where we fought only two seasons ago. To “spice things up,” we hid half of our army in the woods, but still kept roughly the same formations.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...overlook-3.jpg
The Koinon Hellenon surged forwards in their typical manner.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ingforward.jpg
They all attacked our lines at once.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...14/bracing.jpg
The slingers and archers, who were harassing our men, had to go. So we sent our cavalry to deal with them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...gageskirms.jpg
The Koinon Hellenon elite hoplites, marching by our lines to attack our cavalry, were ambushed by hiding Thraikians.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...4/ambush-1.jpg
The Galatians protected our left flank, which seems to get most of the action.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...sattacking.jpg
All the while, our horse archers laid down a steady stream of fire.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ngthetrees.jpg
But one unit of elite hoplites slipped past the Thraikians. Our Skythians engaged them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...tehoplites.jpg
A few yards ahead, the Galatians were running into trouble. A few units of slingers were attacking them while infantry kept them pinned down.
The Thraikians, having left the cavalry to finish off the routing elite hoplites, joined the Galatians in the fight to hold the left flank.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...de-by-side.jpg
The Thraikians and Galatians on the right side, who were idle, ran along the lines and joined their brothers on the left flank.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...flanking-1.jpg
Soon most of the enemy line crumbled, even before we killed their captain, who was killed trying to rally his routing army.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...dingdown-1.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...taindead-1.jpg
Soon there was but two enemy units left. Our elite skirmishers took care of one of them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...msinbattle.jpg
Our mercenary Greek cavalry took care of the other unit.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...nemyskirms.jpg
Soon they routed as well, and our men pursued them, along with the rest of the enemy army, who were in full flight.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...14/fleeing.jpg
Few remained.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...uy14/alone.jpg
The line had held, as it always did.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...neheldfirm.jpg
But at what cost? Indeed, we slew 2066 enemy soldiers, but we had lost more men to Koinon Hellenon arms than ever before.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...results-16.jpg
The butchery was great.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...thecarnage.jpg
But there was no time to retrain. Another Koinon Hellenon army, led by the Koinon Hellenon faction leader, was upon Koson and his battle-worn army. They looked more determined than ever, but they were sure to fall, just as the rest.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...th-fall225.jpg
In the north, there was going to be another battle soon, for those land-hungry Romani will never learn that we Getai are all-powerful!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...itngromani.jpg
wow- im surprised no one had commented...:sweatdrop:
im leaving for NY on the 11th until the 15th. im going to lessen the updates now but keep playing 3 updates worth a day so i can update when im in NY.
also, i urge you to comment- it does wonders for my self-esteem :2thumbsup: :laugh4:
:smash:
Chapter 34- A close repeat of a battle (or, our enemies must have failed creativity class)
We thought that in the winter of 225 they would attack us, but we were wrong. They made winter quarters a few miles away, and then when spring came, they offered battle.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...tarting-10.jpg
As if the gods willed it, it was the exact same place where they attacked us first exactly 3 years ago. It seems as if they were hungry for our blood, but we were hungrier.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...eroverlook.jpg
The battle began with a mass cavalry charge by the Koinon Hellenon.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...alrycharge.jpg
Our men, sensing that the enemy was gaining momentum with the downhill, braced for the impact.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../bracing-1.jpg
One again, they concentrated on our left flank. Our Galatians and Thraikians, already used to things like this, fended them off easily.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...svscavalry.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...thraikians.jpg
In the center, the phalanxes held off the cavalry just as well.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...holdingoff.jpg
At that time, the enemy infantry advanced, along with the enemy faction leader, who had took power a few months earlier.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ngforwards.jpg
As the lines began to close, he sent an order to the phalanx at the very end of the left flank. For the first time in any battle which he commanded, a phalanx unit advance on the enemy. I this case, it was upon the backs on the enemy cavalry. Indeed, they advanced, and chewed up the enemy cavalry pretty badly.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...xadvancing.jpg
At the same moment that the phalanx routed the remains of the enemy cavalry, the Koinon Hellenon heavy infantry, with the enemy general at the front, crashed with our lines. By the time that they saw the Thraikians charging their rear, it was too late. They were surrounded.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...surrounded.jpg
Ironically, as this was happening, the clouds changed from a pearly white to an overcast sky, which soon gave way to rain.
Meanwhile, on the extreme left, an enemy unit of light hoplites tried to go around our rear to attack our Vasil. They did not see the unit of elite skirmishers waiting in ambush for them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ngambushed.jpg
As that was going on, we killed the Koinon Hellenon faction leader.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...nemyFLdead.jpg
There was a mass rout. Every solider under the Draco, the symbol of the Dacians, gave chase.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...sinpursuit.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...4/massrout.jpg
Even the steppe cavalry, who preferred to distance themselves from the bloodshed, took part in the pursuit.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ridingdown.jpg
We struck total fear in the enemy as the fled for their lives.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../fleeing-1.jpg
The enemy Galatians, who had decided to side wit the Koinon Hellenon for money reasons, was also ruthlessly chased down. None survived. Even their own brothers took part in their slaughter.
It was sad to see brother killing brother, but we had to make them an example for all Celtic and Galatian mercenaries- join us or face certain death.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ansrouting.jpg
Soon there was only a unit of archers left of the enemy.
Our Galatians, more bloodthirsty than ever, pursued them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...stremnants.jpg
Soon of the unit of archers, only two remained.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...4/last2men.jpg
Then only one.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../lastman-1.jpg
And then there were none.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...astmandead.jpg
What a victory! The last sizeable Koinon Hellenon army had been defeated!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...results-17.jpg
In fact, no one got out alive. The 25 survivors made a U- turn and met our Vasil, who allowed them to live in Demetrias, where they could do no harm.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...yarmyrouts.jpg
No longer were we just a small, insignificant nation, we were a world power, a force to reckoned with. We had defeated them in no fewer than four large battles, all of them with negligible casualties. Now it was time to strike the deathblow to those babies who cower behind the walls in Athenai, Korinthos, and Sparte!
Wow that was a flurry of updates there Hooah! Your AAR is doing so well. Can you post a screen of where everyone is in the world? What are the other nations doing if you can provide that info? I love the photoshop job of that guys pike in his skull. Pretty funny. I like the Leonidas bit too! Keep it up and have fun on your vacation!
Haha!
Chapter 32,33 and 34 were hilarious! Your best work so far!
:2thumbsup:
lol
ya- i think they were the best as well....
New York, huh? That's where I live! But I'll also be on vacation when you're here...
Anyway, great update(s)!
Wow, that's a lot of updates. It will take me a while to catch up.
Good to see you're back, though.
I've got to catch up on all the new AARs, too...
Very good updates! A superb read this is...keep ´em coming!
yay! post #200!
thanks for the comments, keep them coming!
on another note, i think ill update tomorrow, next teusday, then finally on next thursday, the last update of the summer for me- school starts of the 18th. ~:(
on another note, i need everyones opinion and suggestions-
after beating the KH, i dont know where to go. ill definitely take over chalkis after i take over Athenai (i dont know how im going to defeat those two full stacks though.... )
i want to hear everyones (yes i mean everyone!) where i should go next.
my options:
1) attack Epeiros
2) attack and puch back the romani to Italy
3) take over byzantium, then push into asia minor
4) a sea-borne invasion of the makedonian island next to pergamon (forgot the name)
5) a sea-borne invasion of southern italy
6) the choice is yours......
the choice is yours- i have no isea where to go next, so it up to you....:sweatdrop:
I'd say you should conquer Epeiros and the rest of the Balkans first, and then head into Asia Minor and beat up Pontos.
That is, I'd say that if this was a serious AAR.
I think hilarity would ensue if you took 2 or 3 stacks and conquered a huge city like Antioch, Carthage, Alexandria, or Rome. Or, for alternative laughs, conquer the "land of past hooahguy AARs", and go straight for Baktria!
Go for the Romani....pleeeez!
Go for option 2 and 5! Romans are always fun to fight and it is easy to make fun of the Romans:charge:
Chapter 35- Into South Hellas
After gathering a modest-size army under a decent governor, Koson sent the order for the city of Korinthos to be taken.
With the Koson’s army providing cover, the army marched into Korinthos virtually unopposed. Only the governor and a few bodyguards stood at the gate at a very feeble attempt to prevent us from entering. We shot them with a hundreds arrows, and we marched in. Then started the looting and killing.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...etake-over.jpg
When Koson heard what was happening, he rushed in with his loyal bodyguard, and guarded the Statue of Zeus, as well as the city records.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...mpleofzeus.jpg
Among the maps and books in the city records building, we found a map of the world that was made only a few weeks before. We made a subtle change on the map regarding the ownership of a certain city in south Hellas, however.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...eworld-223.jpg
As that was happening, we sent Amopaon Argeades with his army to besiege the Koinon Hellenon capital, Sparte.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...kingsparte.jpg
Sparte was defended by some very well trained hoplites, including the fabled Spartans.
They were commanded by a very able general.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...notsocrazy.jpg
But another general there, who was only a general because he was born into the royal family, was not so able. In fact, most say that he is crazy.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...4/crazyguy.jpg
A few dozen miles eastwards, the Makedonians have established themselves as a world power, having taken Nikaia from Pontos. It was possible that we would go to war with the Makedonians sooner than we thought.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...kstakeover.jpg
Then we got another Hellenic deserter. A Koinon Hellenon general based in Asia Minor came to one of our diplomats in the area, requesting that he, along with his entire army, join our side. When we asked why, he said because the Koinon Hellenon was doomed to failure and he didn't want to fall into the hands of less merciful hands of the Arche Seleukia or the Makedonians.
Once again, we accepted, for the troops under his command were very valuable to us.
But we can never be too sure with Greeks. Just in case, we replaced his bodyguard with fiercely loyal Getic soldiers, and he was under watch constantly, just as were all generals who defect to our side.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...rmygeneral.jpg
On the northern front, things were pretty calm, except for a small Romani army trying to bypass our forces there and attacking Singidunum from the back. He was thwarted by our spies who reported the Romani movements.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...watching-1.jpg
Besides the aforementioned events, the year 223 was pretty uneventful, compared to the past seven years.
so i have decided on the times when i will update next week:
monday, wensday, thursday
btw, all these may be sooner if fell like posting all 3 updates at once. but then i cant keep you in suspense if i post all at once.....
lol
btw i have decided on a plan for my next conquests after i defeat the KH and maks in Europe:
destroy epeiros, the go onto romani. then if everything is stable there, i may push into asia minor, but going in there is like opening a can of worms..... literally....
Attention everyone, a new faction has been announced for EB II in Stele # 7: It's the Anatolian Hill Worms!!!
And nice update, too.
first of all, shame on you guys- im sorry if i sound a bit harsh, but you guys should really start commenting- all of you- i need feedback and im not going to get it if i only get one reply in 3-4 days!
so guys, comment on what you think of this chapter. and the next, and the next one.
if you guys dont start commenting then i will get bored of this and stop. :whip:
healthy commentating=a good AAR
Chapter 36- Peace on some fronts?
Finally, in the summer of 222, exactly 50 years since Zalmodegikos per Buridava decided to go upon a great crusade to unite the tribes of Dacia and beyond, Sparte fell. It signified the fall in Hellenic dominance forever in the region. No longer are the Spartans the most feared force in the world. The Thraikians armed with Rhompaia have taken their place.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...rtefalling.jpg
The southernmost part of the Hellas is ours!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...hellasours.jpg
But more happened in 222 than meets the eye.
We became allies with the Sweboz, for one thing.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...aialliance.jpg
Epeiros and the Romani declared war on each other was another thing.
War was declared after the Epeirote huge stack advanced on Dalminion.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...yandallies.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...kadvancing.jpg
But they soon broke the siege after something far more important convinced them to go away.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...irotestack.jpg
The diplomacy in that year was very complicated, with backstabbing, treaties and submissions everywhere.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ddiplomacy.jpg
Over in Asia Minor, the Makedonians lost a decisive battle near Nikaia, crippling their power in the region.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ksdefeated.jpg
We killed a Koinon Hellenon general who liked to hang around the forest that borders the territory which Demetrias is in.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...killedKHFM.jpg
But the most important even that happened was that our we sat down with the Romani and hammered out a ceasefire with them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../ceasefire.jpg
Funny how that came about though-
At first, our scouts spotted a huge Romani army coming our way. Rhemaxos sped to the area.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../stand-off.jpg
It was at that time that they came to us that they wanted a cease-fire. Apparently, the Romani wanted us to make sure we accepted. Like we needed to be persuaded much!
After the ceasefire was declared, the Romani stacks went away.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...one-fornow.jpg
But none of these things were significant, for the events of next year sent shockwaves throughout our lands, and gave the Koinon Hellenon a bit of a breather while we sorted things out….
u said you want comments:
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HUMIES!!! WAAAAAAAAGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA!!!!! WAAAAAAAGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
there, that sums up my opinion of what you should do next.
wow. thanks, but i had a more civilized response in mind....
Romani: behold! I can see your future!
Epeiros: really?! What is it, then?
Romani: um. You will stop attacking us because there is a harem full of single, hot women to the south of us… but hurry! If you don’t chase after them soon, they will all be taken!
Epeiros: REALLY?! SWEET! OK MEN! LETS DROP THIS SILLY SIEGE AND GET SOME WOMEN!!!
:laugh4: Clever Romans!
Hurry! hooahguy get those women before the Epeiros!!!
great!!
and I second about macs...you can¿t play EB there... <.<
but I dont like my beloved romans being masacred battleafter battle by pesky barbarians :clown:
I am amazed that the romans didnt break the ceasefire like the next turn...they do alot of that backstabbing stuff...so much so I might start wearing my armor backwards
i promised you an update.... i shall give you an update! even though its now technically thursday.....
ah well....
Chapter 37- A New Leader
Our northernmost outposts saw the re-appearance of that huge Romani army. This time, it headed north. Rhemaxos kept an eye out for them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...omanihorde.jpg
They took over a small town of not much importance.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...iheadnorth.jpg
But the winter that followed we saw the Romani army appear again- this time in our lands!
Rhemaxos called for help, for he didn't know how many other armies the Romani had hiding in the area, which could pop out for anytime.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...niinvading.jpg
The Romani camped out there for an entire year before anyone acted. All of our diplomats were either in Asia Minor or in South Hellas, and the only diplomat there died five years ago. For that year, we waited for them to make a move. We stayed in view of them all the time. Rhemaxos tried to confront them himself to talk to them, but they refused. They would have no talks with any man who was responsible for the shed of Romani blood, which Rhemaxos was guilty of.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...withromani.jpg
When diplomats got to them, asking why they were there. What they were told shocked us: apparently, the Romani weren’t able to pass the word along to this army soon enough that there was a ceasefire in place. The original order was to defeat Rhemaxos then attack Buridava, and to kill every council member that they could get their hands on. In the end, we paid them a small amount for them to go away.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...omanileave.jpg
At the same time, an agent got a lucky knife throw at the Koinon Hellenon faction leader while he was at a public meeting in Athenai. The assassin escaped without a scratch.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...tionleader.jpg
Across the world, we got word that a faction we had no real knowledge of, the Saka Rauka, have been destroyed by the Baktrians, another Hellenic nation.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...adestroyed.jpg
However, the most shocking thing that happened was that in the spring of 220, Koson per Drobeta, the last member of the Drobeta family that was alive when Oroles per Drobeta was Vasil, died from a sickness he acquired during the winter. The old, battle weary Vasil would never get to see the destruction of the Koinon Hellenon, who he swore to destroy, but he did get the satisfaction of crushing four large Koinon Hellenon armies.
It was the end of an era.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../kosondead.jpg
While we didn't acquire much land, we had grown into a superpower in the world.
The world at the time of his death:
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...osonsdeath.jpg
Tarsa per Drobeta took the oath a few days later, and became our fifth Vasil.
The vow of the Vasil
With the will of the Council, I will take authority of this great nation, and I alone will bear responsibility should misfortune befall us. With Gebeleizis by my side, I will lead the armies of the Getai to greatness and fortune. With the help of Hero, no Getic city shall fall under my watch. I pray that Zalmoxis will keep the law of the land on my side, as well as Bendis, who will grant the mothers of the land fertility and prosperous crops. I will obey the will of the Council, who will in turn obey the will of the people whom I am trusted to protect. With the transfer of the Sword of the King, originally owned by Zalmodegikos per Buridava, our founder, I assume power of the kingship on my head. May Gebeleizis assist me in this great task which I am about to embark on. And so I swear on this day that all that I have attested to you now, I will do to the best of my ability. Amen.
With that, the new leader takes the sword and sacrifices a goat to Gebeleizis, regarded as the king of all the Getic and Thraikian gods.
Unfortunately, Tarsa is the last descendant of Oroles who still bears the name “Drobeta.”
The heir to the throne was named- it would be Antyros per Aedava, a cousin of Tarsa.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...tionheir-1.jpg
The first undertaking for Tarsa was to take over the rest of the Hellas.
The Koinon Hellenon was still mostly bottled up in Athenai, where they had retrained the remnants of the survivors of the battles which we crushed them in.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ndinhellas.jpg
After we killed the Koinon Hellenon faction leader, we thought we had killed the Koinon Hellenon royal family. We hadn’t. Under cover in Rhodos and in Asia Minor were two more Koinon Hellenon family members, one of which was adopted.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...urvivingFM.jpg
They announced that the Koinon Hellenon were to make a new beginning in Asia Minor.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...nAsiaminor.jpg
And when we did take over Athenai, we would have to deal with the Makedonians, who have grown very, very strong over the years.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...kbigstacks.jpg
How we would deal with them was unknown, but that was to be determined soon, for the 220’s have been a very violent year for us Getai. Sadly, it would only get more violent.
You asked for it, but remember, I didn´t warn you.
This just isn´t my kind of AAR, it´s okay, but I just don´t find it extremely funny. If you find that offensive, well, first of all, you asked for comments, and second, you are more than welcome to go over to my AAR and say whatever you think.
its ok. im not offended. everyone has thier different tastes of AAR. as for the funniness, i suppose the same thing applies here...
thanks for the input.
last update for the summer, and maybe even for a long time.... school for me starts on the 18th. ~:(
Chapter 38- The Battle for Athenai
The world around us was a busy place.
Epeiros decided to attack Dalminion again.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ckingagain.jpg
Pontos besieged Nikaia, in an attempt to take it back.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...nearnikaia.jpg
In the fall of 220, in the months before winter and the supplies of Athenai dwindling because of our blockade of their port, they were forced into open combat with us.
For the first time ever, they outnumbered us.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...lestarting.jpg
It was a beautiful day for a massacre. We could see Athenai a mile or two away, and we could even Chalks across the channel.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...overlook-4.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...indistance.jpg
The first enemy army, quite small, advanced.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...yadvancing.jpg
We waited for them patiently, as our arrows whizzed to their targets.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../waiting-2.jpg
Abruptly, Tarsa ordered our horse archers to stop firing at the small army.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...oldingfire.jpg
When they inquired as to why, he told them that they should save their arrows for the main army, which was coming up the hill, like sheep’s for slaughter.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...yadvancing.jpg
When they got in range, he let loose with the butchery.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ttingloose.jpg
At the same time, the smaller army, along with the cavalry elements of the larger one, crashed with our lines.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...tcontact-3.jpg
Then the bodyguards attacked our lines, but even with their heavy spears and armor, they did negligible damage.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...sattacking.jpg
Then the small army routed. The bodyguards followed.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...rmyrouting.jpg
We could not let the enemy general escape, so Tarsa told the horse archers to direct all their fire at him. They did, and he soon fell.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...nemyFMdead.jpg
The captain of the main army from Athenai, advancing up the hill, soon followed, struck in the face by an arrow that bounced off a hoplite’s shield.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...taindead-2.jpg
At that moment, all the horse archers, who had held their fire for a bit, unleashed a torrent of arrows upon the main enemy army.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...yunderfire.jpg
All of a sudden, the Galatians, who were fidgeting like crazy to get in combat, burst away without orders and attacked the enemy hoplites.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...instorders.jpg
The Thraikians assumed that the order had been given to advance, so they followed.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...sfollowing.jpg
Tarsa, unable to recall the Galatians and Thraikians on the right side, sent the Thraikians and Galatians on the left side to flank the reformed hoplites that were advancing to our lines.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...deflanking.jpg
The effect was devastating.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...undtheback.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...nsflanking.jpg
They soon routed, and our men gave chase.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...anschasing.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...schasing-1.jpg
On the far left flank, way beyond the lines, a lone unit of Hellenic spearmen advanced slowly.
Our cavalry, spotting the threat, charged them, and quickly routed them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ttacking-1.jpg
Soon only a unit of Elite hoplites remained. We soon took care of them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...sunderfire.jpg
The entire enemy army was in confusion, and our entire army gave chase.

Soon there was only one man left, a mercenary.
We left him alive out of pity.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...14/loneman.jpg
The victory highlighted all our previous victories. We had lost very, very, few men, but the most important thing was that we killed almost their entire army!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...results-18.jpg
The Koinon Hellenon was so afraid of us that they capitulated as soon as we came to the gates of Athenai with our victorious army. Tarsa took a victory lap around the city, then ordered that all the Southern Hellenic Assembly members, all of whom had decided to stay in Athenai, were to be beheaded and their heads were sent to Rhodos, the new capital. Apparently, the Southern Hellenic Assembly had put too much faith in their armies, and had paid dearly for it.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...naifalling.jpg
Now the Koinon Hellenon was left with two provinces, both in Asia Minor. There they would regroup and lick their wounds.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...4/thenewKH.jpg
All around the world, people heard of our victory over the Koinon Hellenon, and sent us congratulations on the victory. Even the Combined World Association, who gives out an award yearly to the strongest nation, gave us the award this year. For the past 50 or so years, the Arche Seleukia had won. The tables have turned on the Hellenic world.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/.../strongest.jpg
But there was still work to be done, and our power in the region was about to be contested.

I come back from vacation, and I find no less than 3 updates! Nice job, and keep up the good work!
well, becasue the tavern is closed, i just cant bring myself to continue this AAR in good faith. i know, its devastating, but i just cant play EB anymore once the EB team did what they did.
im so sorry, and i may continue this when my anger subsides, but for now, consider this AAR dead.
~:(
thanks so much for everyone reading! :applause:
Goodbye, and thanks for sharing your AAR.
Wh-What?!? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I loved this AAR so much....
As great as this AAR is though, I don't think stopping it is gonna make them re-open the Tavern...
i know they wont re-open it, but im too depressed right now to continue it.....
Well I for one really liked your work. I hope you reconsider at one point. But if your heart is not in it than there is not much you can do. I hate to do this but why did they close down the tavern? too many drunks running around the village late at night?
Check out the last post in the tavern thread, Foot explains why it was closed. It's on the second page of the main forum.
I'll be sorry to see this AAR go hooahguy, even if your mighty empire did have 10 times as many soldiers as my rather less mighty but honest, cheat free Getic Kingdom can sustain.
ah, the wonders of role-playing......
lol
i will continue this AAR, for the tavern has re-opened somehwhere else (link to it in my sig), and will never close....
i think.
but school has started for me and i have a lot of HW, so no updates planned soon....
but keep faith!
well, sorry for the delay in updates. ive been incredibly busy, and i hope to update within a month.. or two... :beam:
well, i finally got around to updating. i will update in 2 or so hours.
but i dont feel so funny lately, b/c i found out recently a good friend of mine has the type of cancer that killed his father. only given a few months to live, so i dont feel too funny....
but hopefully you willl like the new update regardless.
Chapter 39: Into the Black Abyss (literally)
After we took over Athenai in 220, we looked further to the island of Euboia, where the last stronghold of the Makedonians in Europa, Chalkis, was.
Opposing us were two very strong Makedonian armies, and a well-defended Chalkis.
Tarsa per Drobeta moved his army to face the first of the Makedonian armies, commanded by the arrogant captain Meleagros.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...4/face-off.jpg
While that was going on, reports of a Koinon Hellenon colony over in the Iberian Peninsula came in. It seems as if our Carthaginian allies were having some fun with them as well.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...4/KHcolony.jpg
Even though we were rooting for Carthage, we didn't want to get embroiled into another war with the Koinon Hellenon. So we sent a diplomat to make peace with the Koinon Hellenon, and ensure that we wouldn’t be attacked with the few forces they had in Asia Minor. We got it.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...cease-fire.jpg
The first Koinon-Getic War was over.
Officially, our Getic armies lost 749 men to Koinon Hellenon arms. We lost far more to disease that bred in the dirty Hellenic wine that our men foolishly drank when we looted their cities.
On the other hand, Getic weapons killed 10,923 Hellenic soldiers and their allies in the various field battles. Our military advisors tell us that for every Getic solider slain, we killed almost 15 Hellenic soldiers.
An unknown number of Hellenic garrison members died in defense of their cities, but they number in the thousands.
In Asia Minor, the Makedonians decide to wage war on the Koinon Hellenon, which isn’t bad at all for us.

Back in Buridava, the Council called an emergency session. Instead of meeting in Buridava, they traveled to Demetrias, so Tarsa can react to any situation quicker.
Antyros per Aedava, the new Council leader, told the council of the situation. “Tarsa, our Vasil, is toe-to-toe with the Makedonian captain Meleagros and his army. Backing up Meleagros is another army under an unknown captain and the well-equipped garrison of Chalkis. My Vasil, can you confirm my summary?”
“Indeed. The situation is grave. The Makedonians are, as we speak, performing some maneuvers across the channel, and we can spot many boats that are being prepared. We assume that very soon the Makedonians will cross the channel and attack.”
Councilman Tauros, from Naissos (from chapter 28) spoke up.
“We should send the army under Rhemaxos that is stationed outside of Singidunum to the area to reinforce Tarsa. Rhemaxos isn’t doing anything there; only waiting for the Romani invasion hat will never come!”
Councilman Dapyx, from Singidunum, objected.
“Do you not remember what happened? We let our guard down in that area and my town almost paid the price! If it wasn’t for some emergency reserves rushed into the area, I wouldn’t be here today to object!”
Councilman Kazurus said,
“Why don’t we just save ourselves the trouble and attack immediately, and take what’s coming?”
“We can’t do that! We can’t be seen as the aggressors! It will ruin our already precarious reputation in the world!” said Antyros per Aedava.
Councilman Kazurus replied,
“With all due respect, Head of Council Antyros, we have a precarious reputation? I thought we were the most respected and powerful nation to date?”
“Negative, Councilman Kazurus, on the first part. While we are the most powerful nation to date, we are looked down upon by most of the Hellenic nations, especially Arche Seleukia, the biggest and most dominant Hellenic realm. We cannot afford to anger them.”
“Well then, do you have any suggestions? Anyone?”
Councilman Diales, also the intelligence chief, spoke up.
“I do. We send our best assassin, Skirtos per Zisnudava, to kill the well-liked captain Meleagros. With our luck, his death will provoke the Makedonian army to crossing the river and attacking us, and then we can defeat the Makedonian army. There will be no international criticism, since they attacked us and it will be seen as an act of defense on our part.”
Delighted, Antyros per Aedava, with the entire council, approved it immediately.
“Following the protocol for ordering an assassination, we must get the approval of the Vasil. So, my esteemed Vasil- do you approve of the assassination of Meleagros, the captain of the Makedonian army that threatens your army?”
Tarsa per Drobeta thought for a minute, smiled, and said:
“Kill him.”

Short, but sweet. Again, :smash::smash::smash::smash::smash:
I haven't commented on this AAR yet, but I've been following it.
It is hilarious. Keep it up! :smash:
Hooahguy! You're back! Yay!
Just wondering, where do you get your money from? Your cities all seem to be in the pits, despite the overabundance of ridiculously profitable mines in the area.
well, first of all, the mines are HUGELY helpful. 2nd, just because my cities show negatives, my conomy is doing very well. also, i RP that each city i take over gives me 20,000 mnai a turn, as an extra tax or s/t....
new update later today!
Oh, that's cool. The mines are ridiculous in Pella, aren't they? :)
sorry for the delay in updating. i got sidetracked while writing it and played a tense game of company of heroes.....
ill update a bit later. i promise. :sweatdrop:
Chapter 40: The Start of the 2nd Makedonian-Getic War
Sure enough, the Makedonians declared war on us.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ardeclared.jpg
But the invasion never came.
For two whole years we waited tensely as we watched the Makedonians do maneuvers across the channel.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...y14/boring.jpg
“They’d better be a worthy foe if they are doing all this practicing” remarked an aide of Tarsa per Drobeta, the Vasil and the general.
To that Tarsa replied, “Oh, they can’t be much worse than the Koinon Hellenon!”
“Do we know, my Vasil?”
“Know what?”
“If the Makedonians are good fighters.”
“I’m pretty sure they are.”
“Well, we will see in the next battle, if it ever comes.”
“We will see, we will see.”
Tarsa became fed up with the Makedonians. Under the cover of nightfall, he moved his entire army, by boat, to the northern end of Euboia, to provoke the Makedonians into a battle.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...oingaround.jpg
It worked.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...tarting-11.jpg
The Makedonians were overly confident, or at least most of them, in victory.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...yadvancing.jpg
It was a nice day, and we had a great view of our gallant navy, waiting offshore.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...14/ournavy.jpg
Our horse archers opened fire with deadly volleys of steel-tipped arrows.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ingloose-1.jpg
But it didn't have much effect. The Makedonians learned from their mistakes, unlike the Koinon Hellenon, and rushed to close the lines as fast as they could.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...nesclosing.jpg
A few minutes after the lines collided, our left wing of cavalry burst out of the nearby cornfield to attack the enemy archers, which were harassing our Galatians.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...rycharging.jpg
Speaking of Galatians, they got angry. For the first five minutes, the Galatians on the left flank were ordered to stand still, and wait for orders. In no time, they lost 30 men to the Makedonians harrowing waves of arrows.
Disobeying orders, they burst forth and went on a bloodbath, killing every Makedonian in sight. Not a single Galatian from the left flank fell after they burst forth from the lines.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...charging-1.jpg
On the other side of the battle, the Galatians saw their brothers charging, decided it was a good idea to follow their lead, and promptly routed a few units of Makedonian spearmen.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...nkcharging.jpg
In the middle, our ranks were having a difficult time defeating the Makedonian phalanxes.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...holdingout.jpg
It required a cavalry charge to rout them, along with the rest of the Makedonian army.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ittingrear.jpg
Our lines then collapsed into confusion, everyone was rushing to chase after the routing Makedonians, and there was little order. Not even Tarsa could rein them.
It was a mass rout. Even our Vasil and his bodyguard, who usually stay out of the fight (after what happened to Zyraxes per Dokidava), took part in the chase.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...inmassrout.jpg
It was around then that we killed the Makedonian captain.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...tainkilled.jpg
Finally, only a few remained, and our horse archers ran them down.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ownlastmen.jpg
The battle was over, and a great Getic victory, but at what cost?
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...results-19.jpg
Indeed, we had defeated a large Makedonian force, but lost a bit over a third of the amount of men we lost in the entire Koinon-Getic War.
It was distressing for men who have only seen light losses their entire military career. The Galatians were especially hurt, inn numbers and prestige. For the first time ever, they lost a third of their numbers. They came to Tarsa with a request.
“O most noble and esteemed Vasil, we have a request.”
“What is it, my revered Galatians?”
“We would like to go back to Greece, to replace our numbers. We simply cannot function with only 80-90 men in each unit.”
“That’s reasonable. The only problem is that we cannot function without you Galatians either, so per your request, we will head back to the mainland during nightfall.”
“Thank you, my honored Vasil.”
So they went back, in the summer of 217, much to the astonishment of another large Makedonian army that marched up as the last boats were leaving.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...nsummer217.jpg
Tarsa sent for reinforcements, and soon, after a bit of rest, they would be off again to confront the Makedonians.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...ntsenroute.jpg
Back in Athenai, Tarsa was troubled.
“Oy gevalt, what have I done?”
“Sir, you did noting wrong. You led us without fail in the previous battle!” said his chief aide, Dizo.
“But I have ruined the reputation of the Galatians. I have failed them!”
“Sir, you did no such thing!”
“By forcing them to stand by and receive missile fire, and not send them out to close with the enemy early on, they hold me in low regard, as of now. This never happened under Koson, even Oroles!”
“My Vasil, maybe it is time for new tactics on the battlefield?”
“Yes, it is time for something new. Any suggestions?”
“Sir, I thought of one before the battle, and now I will present it to you.”
Dizo laid out a sheet of paper, detailing the plan.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/...14/newplan.jpg
“You see, my Vasil, no longer are the Thraikians and Galatians evenly distributed throughout. All of them are put on the far left flank. All our cavalry are put on the far right. Our phalanxes are put in a slight U-shape, and our Komatai Epilektoi are to defend their exposed flanks. Our steppe cavalry are to provide support from within the U-shape. You will be behind them, or amongst them, whichever is your choice.”
“I see, but how will this help?”
“When the enemy hit our lines, we send our cavalry and Galatians, along with the Thraikians, against the enemy all at once at the enemy’s flanks and rear, crushing them.”
“What if the Makedonians see our ploy and head for them instead of the main force?”
“We will play it by ear, my Vasil. If there are trees, we can hide them in there, until it is time to strike. Give it a try, my Vasil, and we will see if it works.”
“Against my better judgment, I will try it out. But if this plan fails, you will take responsibility, be arrested and tried for incompetence in battle. Do you understand?”
“Sir, what defines a failure? Defeat?”
“Defeat or more than 400 casualties on our side.”
“My Vasil…”
“Accept it, or the plan will not be tried. Too much to gamble in this plan. Our army is the finest in the world, not a group of guinea-pigs to be tested upon!”
“I understand, and I accept the responsibility.”
“Good luck, Dizo. For your own sake, I hope your plan succeeds. You are the best aide I have. Now this meeting is dismissed.”
hahaha ''never, never forget the meatballs'' omg that's funny :laugh4::laugh4:
Very, very interesting and one-of-a-kind AAR. Sort of a comic relief after reading all of those serous AARs. You have excellent humour and you never seem to run out of jokes. Keep up the good work!
I still don't get how you earn all of your money. You probably have something like -30-40,000 mnai per turn. What's RP anyway? Do you just enslave and partially raze every city you take?
ok, 2 new updates, coming riiiight up!
