Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
The numbers on the alarm clock flicked and the bleating began. A weary crewmember mumbled and turned in his cot. The bleating continued until a hand finally landed on the clock and fumbled around for the off button.
The crewmember sat up and rubbed his eyes. Another day had begun, though at least no one had been killed in the night.
Andres put on his work clothes grabbed his tool bag. He felt sleepier than he normally did in the morning. He yawned and set off to his post in the engine room.
He made his way down the corridors. The light was steady and unwavering, and all he could hear was the sound of his own footfalls.
Finally he arrived at the engine room. He opened the door and turned to set his tools down. The engine room was one of the biggest spaces on the ship, because it contained the huge amounts of machinery that powered The Prometheus through the void. A lot of the crew worked at maintaining the engine and accompanying equipment.
But no one else was in the room now. Andres looked around again. The engine room was deserted.
But then he saw somebody; a lone figure standing still across the room.
After their eyes met, the figure spoke, “It is fitting your downfall should be brought about in this place, this den of evil. But now you shall be put right!”
Andres saw another figure emerge and approach him from another part of the engine room, and he had turned to run before the speaker had finished his first sentence. Leaving his tools, he turned to run back through the door he had entered in. But as soon as he made it through the doorway, shadows closed in and attacked him, swinging metal pipes and tools. Andres’ frantic yells for help were quickly cut short.
The bloody deed done, all the figures made their way out of the area.
Several hours later, back in the sleeping area, the rest of the crew on Andres’ shift woke up to their alarm clocks.

The morning was a depressed affair as the crew worked slowly to clean up the mess and prepare the body of Andres. As it was being done, The Captain moved from group to group of men, telling them to focus today on the task of hunting those responsible.
The Captain was sure that the killers were among those he talked to, that he had looked them in the eye, but he did not know who and that thought haunted him. They were here and he knew he was close to catching them.

It seems to me that Peasant Phill has been very much of a lurker. I'm also not satisfied with Chaotix' contributions to the game.
I'd very much like to analyze CR's post before I vote.

Emphasis mine.
From this, I really believe we can conclude that the mafia are either expanding in number, or have been concealing their numbers all along.
I do not think that they have been concealing their numbers, because the best strategy for mafia is to kill as many townies as possible. Wasting any turn to pretend to have fewer numbers may indeed fool town, but it does not bring them closer to victory; while town uses it's free turn to get an extra random shot at the mafia. In summary, a suicidal move for mafia.
I conclude, based on all the evidence we have gathered so far, based on CR's posts, and mafia's activity, that we do indeed have a cult on our hands, to a great degree of certainty.

I think CR is hinting that we got close to lynching them in previous rounds. I can think of no other reason to specifically word this the way he did.

Semi-lurking throughout; trying to balance a low profile with being around just enough to avoid suspicion. Always a reasonable excuse for under-participation. If my suspicinions are incorrect, NOW would be a good time to convince us a bit.
Shadows could be ANY number of attackers, but the wording carefully avoids letting us know how many.
This is the second night we've had killers. Some kind of conversion factor is, I strongly suspect, in play. We have at least one pro/semi-pro town role in play as well. I hope you're getting good info whoever you are...

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
Ok folks, here's what I've come up with, with a little help from YLC, and some credit to Ichigo for being a sounding board.
My current theory is that CR could have been hinting at who the guilty parties are, my reasoning above. Here is the previous tallies:
Quote:
Kukrikhan: 1 (Sigurd)
White eyes: 2 (Phill, khaan)
Reenk: 1 (mithrandir)
Sigurd: 3 (YLC, Seamus, Pizza)
SeiriKhaan: 1 (White eyes)
Yoyoma: 1 (pevergreen)
Khaan: 2 (ichi, pever, )
Aries: 1 (khaan)
ATPG: 2 (Andres, Reenk)
Glyphz: 3 (Sigurd, pizzaguy, YLC)
Andres: 2 (Mithrandir, ATPG)
Makaikhaan:4 (Chaotix, White eyes, Rythmic, Kukri)
Rythmic: 4 (Aries, Reenk, YLC, Pizzaguy)
Pizzaguy: 3 (pevergreen, yoyoma, Andres)
Reenk Roink:0 ()
pevergreen: 1 (shlin)
Peasant Phill: 1 (Sigurd)
Andres:1(makai)
Seamus: 1 (Ichigo)
Abstain:3 (Seamus, Peasant Phill, AtPG)
Second place finishers bolded.
White Eyes was the last one to be near-voted. Before that, it was Makaikhaan, myself, and Andres, who is now dead, and before that Makaikhaan was within a hair of being axed.
My top suspects are White Eyes, Makaikhaan, and Chaotix. I volunteer to die this round or any other round, since I am also a suspect. I would like to vote Chaotix this round and put the FOS on White Eyes and Makaikhaan. Mak did act suspiciously in the beginning of the thread, and White Eyes is not only the last to dodge the axe, but also been less than helpful.
Vote: Chaotix

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
How am I suspicious? For that matter, how are any of those folks suspicious? You just threw names out there. The only reasoning I found in there was that I "acted suspicious" and that white eyes isn't helpful. I have acted fully "not scummy", methinks, and white eyes not being helpful is no reason to vote for him.

I did not just "throw names" out there. Each person nearly got voted, and I suspect CR was trying to tell us something, that we were close, or have been close. Therefore it makes sense to take a closer look at the second place finishers.
While I haven't been the one who has been accusing you of scummy behavior, others have. And so far, I don't think you've responded to that in a satisfactory way. But rather than explain yourself to me, I would direct you to their posts and their accusations. I actually have stuff I gotta do at the moment, but I will be back to point you to those posts.
I agree, the case isn't ironclad, but there is no such thing as an ironclad case. I've been suspected for talking too much, which is hardly an ironclad case. Others have been (jokingly) voted for because they are big fans of camels. At the very least, I'm putting some thought into my votes, and giving clear reasons.
I can't say the same about White Eyes, and I have doubts about you, too. No offense, of course, my friend.

That's entirely plausible. I hadn't considered Phill was out to get you, though. There's way too many people in this game and it's hard to keep track of things. I'll give it some thought and review it, but it's too late for me to do it tonight.

I was pointing out pizzaguy was piggybacking off of other's reasoning without even explaining what they were. But ya, I do find it annoying to find someone voting for me just because they thought I was confusing things, when I wasn't really posting much anyways, and besides, my posts were short anyways. So, on the contrary, I'd say its you who was looking for a scapegoat.

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
Ok, Aries777777, where are you buddy? You didn't vote last round, and I could not find another suitable man to follow so I didn't vote last round (though I participated but our captain says it is not enough; he must follow that silly "Vote or Die" slogan :grin2:).
Early on you were active with your jokes and your votes, but now you're gone and I'm not laughing or guided, and it's becoming terribly hard to play in my new way. :shame: I may have to vote for you in the future.
Because I am not kept satisfied by such good humor, I took some time out to be 'analytical' today in the hopes that maybe I could be helpful to us crewmembers.
First, I am shocked that Sigurd Fafnesbane was lynched this early for a pretty weak reason, even by common townie standards. An incredibly stupid thing to do if I may criticize the crew.
By lynching him, especially this early, Sigurd's alignment is unknown. You can imagine the epistemic problems this brings when he will attempt to posthumously 'help' the town...
What would have been wiser was to let the Mafia kill him off, at least making it much more plausible that Sigurd was innocent or in a non-Mafia role. Then he could help us and we could trust him. :idea2:
And had Sigurd remained alive by the end stages of the game, you could be sure that I would be on him hard for it. Sigurd has screwed the town and myself personally over brilliantly twice before in endgame, and one of my personal goals is to foil him.
What we did to Sigurd is the worst thing to do concerning him.
Secondly, I'm saddened though not surprised at how dogmatically people draw conclusions about the Mafia from scant evidence such as write ups or non killing behavior. They really prove nothing, and I would never make conclusions about the number of Mafia or how they operate from them personally.
Lastly, and I held off on doing this for a bit because I respect Seamus Fermanagh a ton, but I would be somewhat inclined to view him suspiciously since the get go.
Read this:
Quote:

Why is this? Originally it was because mathematically, he's registered a definite behavior change from past games. He posts less and his posts are generally shorter. This doesn't mean much, but it was enough to get my attention and make me look into the content of his posts.
What I've seen there looks innocuous on the surface - as in past games, he's posted voting records and some commentary on them. We know him well enough by now that it's obligatory that he do this - I'm confident he would do it whether he was a mafioso or not.
But something's a bit off. The commentary this time is much lighter, not very focused, and lacking the insightful confidence that was there in previous games.
I think Seamus is doing what he did in that game. He is propping up the same framework so as to not blatantly show a change in behavior, but at the same time, it is also more shallow which, according to popular townie thought, is an indicator of trying to fly under the radar, which, again according to popular townie though, is a telltale mark of Mafia.
Now, I must add that I am probably one of the strongest opponents of using changes in behavior or semi-lurking as indicators of Mafia, because of the fact that it is such a poorly grounded theoretical framework (yes it has worked before, but I look for an epistemic and not pragmatic justification and you would think Mafia would caught on by now).
So by no means does this damn Seamus or anything close to it. Unlike Kommodus, I will not endorse voting for people based on the above-mentioned methodology for the above-mentioned reasons.
I do caution you to deal with Seamus with some trepidation though. Something about him is just not right (actually, that is MY personal reason for my suspicion, and I gave the evidence that usual townies accept so that YOU would also consider it).
No hard feelings buddy, as I said my personal stance makes me very critical of this method of suspicion in the first place. However, since everyone else is grasping at imaginary threads, I would like to point out a particularly big and fat imaginary thread. You are a great player and were it not for my close knowledge of your ways from earlier times, I wouldn't have caught this.
I will for now vote: Chaotix27 because Seamus is a good man as any to follow, and again, he is suspicious by the common methodologies gauge (BUT SO IS SEAMUS BY THE SAME METHODOLOGY).
Hope some of this helped. At the very least, I hope it was interesting in some way that makes the game more fun, which is the main reason to play. :2thumbsup:
A Vote Tally (cause none of you do it anyway ~;p):
Chaotix27: 4 (seireikhaan, Seamus Fermanagh, YLC, Askthepizzaguy)
Askthepizzaguy: 2 (shilin28, Alexander the Pretty Good)
seireikhaan: 1 (White_eyes:D, Ichigo)
YLC: 1 (Mithrandir)
Peasant Phill: 1 (Beefy187)
pevergreen: 1 (Twilightblade)
shilin28: 1 (Chaotix27)
Edit: There is no way that Chaotix27 could be Mafia, unless he really doesn't care about getting lynched (such apathy would be legendary and quite ballsy for Mafia :2thumbsup:). Voting will be closed in an hour or so
Unvote: Chaotix27
Vote: Askthepizzaguy
To try and force a tie to save a pretty clearly innocent townie (though I don't know if Askthepizzaguy is a good lynch either, he's better than Chaotix27).
New Vote Tally:
Chaotix27: 4 (seireikhaan, Seamus Fermanagh, YLC, Askthepizzaguy)
Askthepizzaguy: 3 (shilin28, Alexander the Pretty Good, Reenk Roink)
seireikhaan: 2 (White_eyes:D, Ichigo)

Your life and death are at my hand Askthepizzaguy. I can actually make a vote count! :2thumbsup:
I will make my decision soon, but I want to know, will you beg? :eyebrows::eyebrows::eyebrows:

I won't dance for you, Reenk. And I won't beg for your vote either. You must decide based on the evidence presented. I won't be swayed by emotion-based arguments or taunting.
Logging off now, since you guys won't let me leave. :laugh2:

I like this Reenk guy, I'm trying to let him have his fun.

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
So, in the interests of "fun", instead of actually taking logical steps, lets simply randomize, hope for the best, and hell, if were wrong, then damn, lets spin that wheel and try again, because we have plenty of time and people to do that with.

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
The following was found on the electronic message boards at the hot spots of the ship:
Should we take anything from the logged events from last night it would be this:
Two tree-huggers waited for Andres in the engine room and as he escaped the engine room he was apparently assaulted by shadows (plural). We can draw from this that the number of bad guys has not diminished since you imprisoned Sigurd (me).
The Reinkmaster speaks highly of me and complain that I was imprisoned. I do note that he took no steps to prevent this injustice. I also notice that a voting pattern has emerged.
I notice that YLC and Seamus wants Pizzaguy to survive, the same perpetrators that was responsible for putting me into this cryo-chamber. Yoyoma made a nonsensical vote like Ichigo did not too long ago, but Pizza is not jumping on him for it. Will it generate too much attention on you now that you have converted to the "green cause"?
There is a cryo-pod right next to me here in the chamber. I hope to see you here. I am going to give you the evil eye during the remainder of this journey.

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
I said I dont think its pizza guy.. Theres no reason to change my vote just yet.. I could go for TB but I wanna actually make my vote count.
Wasnt it Pizza guy in first place who brought up the idea that mafia has been converting people? Thus there should be three mafia supporters? If pizza man is one of the baddys why bring it up? Sure it could be reverse psychology and for that he must be lynched eventually, but why lynch a guy whos been at least providing ideas more then most of you when more then half of us are still alive?
If we can avoid the woggs then I say we wait few more phases before we decide the fate of the Pizza guy.

A message suddenly pops up on the message screens:
Easy ...
The greenies knew that their numbers would be revealed as increasing in the writeups and therefore it would be smart to appear townish to gain trust with the rest of the uninformed majority. Let's control this game TinCow style so to speak.

Heh, don't blame me.
I actually came in tonight with the sincere intention of being analytical (like Seamus)
and voted for Chaotix27 because I was following Seamus, who himself was following the
conventional townie wisdom of voting for semi-lurkers (not something I'm a strong
supporter of, but I gotta follow someone).
Only after it became extremely late and I saw that Chaotix27 did not defend himself AT
ALL, I thought something was peculiar. Honestly that is the most unlike Mafia behavior
ever, much more convincing then semi-lurking, behavior changes, and the like.
So I voted for Askthepizzaguy who was one of those closest to him in votes and kinda
digging his own grave.
Only later did I see that 1) Askthepizzaguy accused me with something so weak and
paranoid that it would put Sasaki to shame :laugh4: and 2) that someone else had actually
tied the vote.
These two events put me in a great position as it 1) gave me the chance to toy with
someone and finally discover efficacy in voting and 2) legitimize my doing this because
it's kinda rude to do it to someone who hasn't done anything to you.
You ruined that chance by tagging an extra vote on Chaotix27 and breaking the tie
~:mecry:. Voting is still useless it seems...
Vote Tally:
Chaotix27: 5 (seireikhaan, Seamus Fermanagh, YLC, Askthepizzaguy, White_eyes:D)
Askthepizzaguy: 4 (shilin28, Alexander the Pretty Good, Reenk Roink, pevergreen)
seireikhaan: 1 (Ichigo)
YLC: 1 (Mithrandir)
Peasant Phill: 1 (Beefy187)
shilin28: 1 (Chaotix27)
Beefy187: 1 (Twilightblade)

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
Ok, I must confess I have had to reevaluate most of my 'analysis' in the past 5 minutes (don't worry Seamus, you are EVEN more suspicious under my new theory :laugh4:).
Why hasn't the voting round ended? :inquisitive:
My initial proclamation of Chaotix27's innocence was that it is extremely peculiar that a Mafia would simply not care as he was getting lynched. But now, it seems possible that he knew of extended voting. Brilliant if you are a Mafia, you completely blew away my expectations.
Askthepizzaguy who dug his own grave is now getting sympathy? Is this the fickleness of the town? Yes, maybe he isn't the best lynch at the moment, but he is annoying and causing minor confusion. So even though you passed my test Askthepizzaguy, I will dishonor my agreement and keep my vote on you for the moment.
Sigurd's recent posts seem bitter and malevolent, though still ambiguous. He seems to want to lynch Askthepizzaguy badly. Did I not warn you town? He could very well be Mafia.
In fact, a theory popped up in my mind. If the speculation about conversions and several Mafia is true, I believe we could be dealing with a supergroup of Mafia, with a core of Sigurd Fafnesbane and Seamus Fermanagh. Chaotix27 would be a perfect third for them. His behavior in this round is clearly Sigurd influenced.
I think one of the SF's was the mastermind 'Godfather' figure who did a darn good job of recruiting excellent players, old and new.
I only have two things to say to you if this is true:
1) WHY DIDN'T YOU PICK ME!??!?! ~:mecry: Yes, I would be rusty, but one can't lose talent. :beam:
2) Because you didn't pick me, you going down suckas! :duel:

YLC: 1 (Mithrandir)

Beefy187: 1 (Twilightblade)
Reenk Roink: 1 (Yoyoma1910)

It wasn't, but I was told that if I didn't vote this round I would be tossed into outer space. I didn't think I would have time to seriously consider a vote on Sunday (and I didn't), but didn't want to pick some random person.
Since I've now had time to think and analyze the situation, I voted for a real person. Not that I have any concrete proof, but just a feeling...
P.S. I've loosely been trying to rp the main character from Red Dwarf, but that seems to confuse people more than entertain them, and I was only half heartedly trying anyway, so I'll discontinue from this post on.

Yes, it would seem that taking you out was mis-placed. In truth, I didn't really expect the anemic and divided vote to end up with you having a plurality. Sorry 'bout that. I just wanted to push you a notch to get some push back and up my confidence in you. As Reenk notes, you're pretty good at this -- in all roles -- so I was testing.
Similarly, my goal in this round is to create enough pressure to text chaotix a bit and see what is said. Pushing pizza is irrelevant as he just retreats to his standard "go ahead and vote for me if you wish." I don't have hard evidence against either.
Reenk:
In the old, pre-AM/mod days I made more time to do things like excel spreadsheets on every vote and vote change. While I still think that's useful, our recent economy is demanding more effort from this insurance salesman and commissions do not generate themselves. Sorry to bring up a lousy R/L excuse, but there it is. You can scan back the last 3-4 games for me and you'll see less specificity -- sad but true.
Unvote: Chaotix27
Vote: Askthepixxaguy
Let's get some pushback from you as to why your're for us and not just throwing stuff out to bamboozle us please.

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
Whoa.... looks like I'm gonna be lynched!
Alright, the reason why I've been semi-lurking is that I've been really busy. It wasn't even really lurking, it was just not having the time to be online. Also, I'm acting similarly to YLC's Res Evil Mafia cause I was really busy then, too. In fact, I've been really busy from around that game to right now, because I've had loads of random crap to do at school. A school play, a mock election, that sorta stuff. All of that is over, however, as of last Saturday, and although I will still be busy with homework, I will have sufficient time to post intelligently.
Ok. Honestly, I'm not mafia (Or at least I don't think I am, or I haven't been converted yet). However, there's no reason you should believe my words, and this is where the age-old argument comes in: make myself look innocent so that you don't lynch me, while you all make random accusations at me backed up with vague logic. I don't really feel like defending myself right now, as there's probably not many people who will change their votes now, anyway. So I'll just say this: If you lynch me, you'll just be wasting a vote, and chances are I'll still post anyway in an attempt to help out. Might as well lynch someone else.
Unvote: Whichever Lurker I voted For, Vote: Reenk Roink
He stinks of suspiciousness to me, especially this line:

Mmmkay. First of all, I posted a random, stupid vote. Hardly like Sigurd, who is usually analytical and logical.
Second, he joked about wanting to have been chosen for mafia. Could be an innocent-sounding little ploy, because he actually is mafia. That's just what popped into my head, though.
Alright, I'll be back to see what's goin' on after I finish mah homeworkz.

That means a new round of voting, just between the two.

Re: The Prometheus: Large Mafia Game (In Progress)
OOC: Thanks for all the discussion! The captain is pleased, and you all get dessert tonight!
Pizzaguy: IIIII (shlin, ATPG, Pevergreen, Ichi, Seamus) + Chaotix
Chaotix: IIIII (khaan, YLC, Pizzaguy, White Eyes, Reenk)
Phill: I (Beefy)
YLC: I (Mithrandir)
Beefy: I (TB )
Reenk: II (Yoyoma, Chaotix)
***********************************
It was a long day of discussion, and the Captain was pleased that many people had taken part. Hopefully that would help.
“Have you decided on whom to imprison?” he asked the crowd. After a brief moment of confusion, the crowd decided on the target. Askthepizzaguy was sent to the front of the crowd.
“Very well,” said the captain, “Please go into the cryo-chamber, pizzaguy.”
“Just grant me a little time to speak in my defense! You see, there are very many suspicious people left, more suspicious than me! Why, only a cursory examination of the other crewmembers will show that! Let us begin with a look at the voting patterns of…” Askthepizzaguy exclaimed.
But the captain had already nodded to two members of the security team, who calmly walked over to Askthepizzaguy and gently directed him to the cryo chamber. He went along, but never stopped talking, barely pausing to breath.
“…and that shows why any sort of cult operating on this ship would exclude myself! Why would I attract attention to myself in such a manner? It simply doesn’t make sense!”
Askthepizzaguy glanced at the cryo-chamber and then quickly back to the crowd,
“And maybe instead of our rash actions in response to the current situation we should consider for a minute that not all the arguments put forth by those against what we are doing are completely illogical, that what we’re doing perhaps could lead to lasting harm…”
The captain jerked out of his contemplation of what he was going to say to the crew after Askthepizzaguy had been imprisoned and demanded, “Wait, what did you say?!”
“Lasting harm to the earth, which,” continued Askthepizzaguy.
“Seize him! Throw him in the chamber!” Roared the captain.
“requires direct action!” finished Askthepizzaguy. The guards were already turning to focus on him with a sudden intensity. But Askthepizzaguy had the initiative; he raised his right arm and shoved at the throat of the man to his right with his forearm. It connected as that man was only beginning to try to get a firm grip on Askthepizzaguy, and sent him stumbling back, clutching at his throat.
Askthepizzaguy then turned to his left, ripping his left arm up and out of the tightening grip of shlin28. Askthepizzaguy brought both his hands up to grasp the head of shlin, using the momentum of his right arm and twisting his body to force shlin’s head down and behind Askthepizzaguy, or to shlin’s right. Askthepizzaguy was lucky in that he got a firm grasp and that he had been able to quickly stun the other guard. Shlin brought his hands up to try and pry the hands gripping his face off, but he was too late; Askthepizzaguy pushed shlin’s head directly and violently into the hard metal side of the cryo chamber, instantly causing him to go limp.
By then, the other nearest crewmember had reached Askthepizzaguy and tackled him from behind. The rest of the crew rushed up an instant later and grasped onto any part of the kicking, punching, and swearing Askthepizzaguy they could. After a couple moments, they manhandled him into the cryo-chamber and forced the lid shut.
A cryo-chamber is designed to have occupants lie on their backs, as though sleeping. Because of how Askthepizzaguy had been pushed in, he was cramped into the bottom half, limbs jostled and askew, neck bent because his face was pressed tightly against the lid.
After order was restored and shlin properly attended to, the captain spoke, “Men, though we mourn the loss of shlin, a brave and good man, we must celebrate the fact that we have caught and imprisoned one of the killers! Keep up the good work and soon they shall all be stuffed into these cryo-chambers like sardines with broken spines!
“But remember above all to keep wary, for some killers remain, I am sure.”
The men were in good spirits as they went to bed that night.

Hmm, well, now it's my turn, I had my suspicions while I talked to him, but that was it. I'll understand if the town comes down on me for being unwittingly involved, I happily accept your votes in any attempt to clear my name . I just wish I listened to my mafia sense when he first began mentioning a cult, I know he plays ballsy, and I even called him out on it several times, just wish I had followed my instincts. Remember that from now on, Pizzaguy plays ballsy from now on...
