Yes, I use it. Should my parents ever find out that I'm playing video games, especially ones that contain "graphic nudity"... :sweatdrop:
Eh, its somewhat distracting.
My wife doesn't care
I don't use it. But I feel like everytime I see them in battlefield I'm a bit immature since I can't help but laugh at a big formation of naked men with just helmets charging my army.
I do not-they look wrong when they have loincloths (as they are supposed to be naked fanatics, no?)
that said, I just cover me eyes when I see them up close:clown:
So that's why they disrupt formations.
I use it. Otherwise I'd start giggling like an idiot whenever I'd have to fight those buggers.
I can't help but think of Frankie Boyle...
"The Gauls have us surrounded, sir. They're standing on the horizon, waving their spears. Wait a minute... those aren't spears." ['Zulus' replaced by 'Gauls' here]
I have opted for the loincloths as I have a 10 yr old, who will play this mod, he has played RTW, since age 6 with supervision. When they come running its like having lots of Tarzans running at you!
I don't use it!
Whenever those LSD-nudists come along, I order my good ole Cretan archers to aim at the thing between their legs...a nice burning arrow in your nether regions can really make a difference...
:bullseye:
MUAHAHAHA!!!
I have an even more interesting question. Will the Gaesatae have different kinds of Penisses in EB II ? Or will they still be clone-genital warriors? :laugh4: :laugh4:
Seriously: no, I don't use the patch. Why shouldn't I see a penis, which half the people of the world have, including myself? Ok, it's not like I would go shopping naked or wanting to see anyones penis at all, but if the Gaesatae fought naked, they also should do in the game, in the name of accuracy.
It only would be different, if I had young children who got access to my computer and thereby to the game.
What's a center thread? :inquisitive:
He really loves his history, particularly the Romans, Macedonians and the Persians. On many occasions he has embarrassed adults, with his knowledge. One memorable occasion was his teacher telling my wife that he was talking gobbledy gook. The teacher explained he was telling him and the class about Hastati's, Principes and Triari, what on earth was he talking back? My wife luckily knew enough to tell him, what it was all about. Apparently he smiled, looked very humble and said' right'.
Presently he his playing the Goths on BI and has told me that the Romans get what they deserved, that it was Alaric would have wanted. Basically he sacks every settlement, that is how he sees it
I like your child. I hope if I have a son one day, he will be as interested in history as his father ^^
there's an entry in wikipedia about hegemon, a mod for M2:TW, with a pic of the naked gaesetae. when i saw it i couldn't help but LOL. just look it up and see why. :laugh4:
I don't see a pic, give the link please
I don't use it, I don't mind it and its fun as I have a litle brother of 15
it always cracks me up when I press pause when the gaesetae charge and then say: hey, you got to see this ans then he's teenage mind compels him to react in total disgust :)
HAH! I told you guys, that they would remove the naked dudes, yet you disagreed!
Homos? As in the Latin word "human"?
If you want to give him the benefit of the doubt, fine. But that was seriously uncalled for.
It is this man's firm believe that any activity preformed naked is to be considered gay.
He never takes showers, you know.
As for the modesty patch. As Swiss Barbar already said. Half the world's population has got something dangling between their legs. I think the same about the naked units than I think about any bare breasted unit: why don't they put on some armour?
I also don't get that, in my eyes, typically American reaction on non-erotic nudity. "Somebody please think of the children!!" and all that..
"Charging Homos" could only really be applied to a Theban Sacred Ban unit if it were charging at you...
Thebes? Thebes doesn't exist anymore...
Sigh, the internet's weakness shows up again. Sorry 'bout that.
I don't use it. I wouldn't be using it even if I had kids. Anyway, there's nothing modest about a bunch of doped up, sword wielding Gauls charging at you, loincloth or no loincloth.
i don't use it, i don't get offended by a penis made of flesh, so why would i get offended by a penis made of pixels?
What would be the use of using the modesty patch? Who could get offended by that? Do little children take their bath clothed? I would feel offended by real naked Celts, yes... but their just on your display.
I used because i do not think they really where naked. It seems to me if i have to fight naked it is to much off a disadvantage. Even so ,if they did do it ,after the first time with a lot off causality's they also will never try-ed it again.
This is only my idea not historically backed up.
:book:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thebes,_Greece
It does still exist, but yeah, damn Alexander for destroying it!! :whip: Probably the only reason why I don't like Alexander..
I don't think they had anymore disadvantage than any other unarmored warrior... They had even an advantage over the common unarmored warrior. Real-live warrior brave enough to charge naked would be quite an unsettling sight. It would also be an insult to you. So you would be angrier and thus less prudent and scared at the same time.
Just wearing a loin cloth would not have given much more protection either... since you seem to suggest that...
Plus, they got wasted before hand, so it's not like they felt anything.
Well you like one for what he does :juggle2:.
I only used that when I play EB in my Notebook in my home... (as my mum usually see what I play on the Comp)... When I play that on my desktop (I schooled in different city than my hometown), or in my laboratory... I don't use that....:laugh4:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Then again, they were using drugs.
You are both misinformed.
Actually, If you are refering to the greek thebes, it still does exist:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thebes,_Greece
granted, it doesn' really cme close to the greatness it once had, but its still there.
Lobf enjoys being a naysayer.
Subotan: You'd be amazed what a crazed person can do despite what happens to them. Sheer ferocity could certainly allow a soldier to take a javelin in the chest and take it out then throw it back. Granted they won't live long afterward but hey, the other guy's gonna be unnerved.
I don't use it, just a penis anyways.
PENIS DEAL WITH IT. (With your right hand, ba-dum-TISH)
Wait, does that mean you are popping your eyes at your own penis.
Narcissist... :P
Provide sources that something didn't happen? Sorry, it doesn't work that way. You have to provide the source if you make the assertion, which in this case is that they took drugs. I made a topic on this subject a while back, specifically asking for sources on this very subject. Guess what the consensus was.
I would humiliate you with my Arab half, but, since my faith* teaches me otherise, I'll just tell you what I put that on there for:clown::
I was basically saying saying to myself: "Rilder, what are you doing?......?":clown:
what came after was too rude to put on, and would get me banned (seeing that I recently got a warning for jabbing Bill O'reilly**). so I just put the inquisitive sign in place of that.:clown:

Anyways:
regardless of the gaesatae using drugs or not, the point is, I do not see a genuine reason why anyone needs to use the loincloth stuff, besides satisfying mothers. my people have had a tradition of going round the ka'bah naked before, and besides, If there is one thing I have had to learn, is that nudity is not something that is truly shameful, nor need it be censored if it refers to people of the same gender.(in theory; different people have different tastes, but I digress). I also trust most people (Rilder aside) are sufficiently responsible people to not have any psychological isssues with naked gaesatae, regardless of tastes in RL.*
Slighty OT:There are Celtic deities dedicated purely to drinking and intoxication before battle. The Celts practice of trephaning points to pain numbing drugs/potion/herbs; they included surgical instruments like probes, retractors, saws, etc...all of which are quite advanced in design for sophisticated medical operations, etc...if they could do successful surgery they had to have employed drugs and other very strong pain medicines.
About the nudity patch, it up to the parent to decide for the kids what they should see and not see, but for me I'm too hardcore historical. If nudity was historical then its going in my game regardless.
Many ancient cultures practiced surgery and medicine with nothing better than wine and herbs. Surgery does not imply painkillers. Many people back then were more accustomed to pain in their daily lives than us anyways.
I'm just gonna ignore this debate and answer the OP's question.
No, I do not use the modesty patch. The EB Team meant for them to be naked, so, they're naked. I am not offended or made uncomfortable by pixeled genitalia.
I wouldn't play EB when girls are around anyway, and as long as I explain that it's due to historical reasons, my parents are fine with it.
/me glances at user title.
IMO, anyone who finds nudity to be terrible, immoral and horrifying but is fine with watching guys chop/slash/hack/stab each other to death with all manners of nasty weapons needs to see a psychologist and FAST. Or maybe just go stand nude in front of a mirror and force yourself to look until the shaking stops...
(I have no problem with either. Bring on the virtual violence and nudity.)
If you were serious about what you put there, then I must say, I have finally found someone like me. I would gladly swap an hour of EB for an hour with a girl, even more so because I have not had time to play EB since winter break in December!
So, I heard there was an issue with swastikas as well, during the game's development. And the EB team decided against it. However, the Iberian Eleutheroi & Rebels often have them, albeit more rounded versions. How so?
Swastikas are illegal in Germany, in any game.
Apart from that, I don't care.
They can still import games with swastikas in them, right?Quote:
Swastikas are illegal in Germany, in any game.
And does that mean you would get arrested for watching Naruto?
I dunno, but maybe it is censored. No, that would be hard. I'm not sure.
But for games, remember Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade? Lucasarts, not the action game. They had to remove the swastikas pixel by pixel...
There are no swastikas in EB. The Iberian Rebel flag is actually a series of "whirling teardrops". The swatika appearance is basically a visual effect, mostly caused by the small size.

mlc82 already said that very well. I always wonder how is it possible that certain people consider various representations of nudity more offensive than various representation of violence. Is it because they really think that (pro)creation (human body as such and its propensity to fornicte) is awful, while destruction (killing and maiming other human beings) is something noble?
Unfortunatelly, such outlook is not confined to "certain people" but rather established and sanctioned by our society and institutions, which apparently find graphic indiscriminate and sensless violence perfectly O.K. for children but is outraged to see a naked breast (not to speak about real "pornography") despite the fact that under our garments we are all naked and vastly more people are supposed to fornicate eventually than to massacre others. It is hypocrisy pure and simple, but also an example of various manifestations of the darker sides of human nature.:disappointed:
Erich Fromm (especially in his Anatomy of Human Destructiveness) would have much to say on this issue...:book:
America is weird like that but people will do what they do.
This thread has run its course.
