Having the same problem
There are rumours going around that Anonoymous have done it, but they are denying all responsibility.
It may not be Anon but it looks like it was hackers. See Link
Why do people have to be such :furious3: and ruin everything for others.

Good thing I use Xbox Live.
This is...annoying. Right when spring break starts as well, and to top it all off, I'm too sick to go outside to do anything which means I'm stuck in the house...with no PSN.
I like it because some of my friends have to get off of their gaming systems and enjoy life for once. Here, at least, it is a beautiful weekend, and if I did not have annoying family over, I would be off elsewhere, enjoying it. Spring is in the air and my trees are coming back to life...gotta love it.
That having been said, I bet the hacker(s) are feeling a bit puffed up in terms of their self worth at the moment.
Alright: This is getting serious. Sony reportedly unable to tell if PSN users' personal information compromised.

Still being incredibly tight-lipped about all of this. The longer this goes on, the worse it looks.
Pure pwnage.
Glad I'm still boycotting Sony. :yes:Quote:
Sony has finally come clean about the "external intrusion" that has caused the company to take down the PlayStation Network service, and the news is almost as bad as it can possibly get. The hackers have all your personal information, although Sony is still unsure about whether your credit card data is safe. Everything else on file when it comes to your account is in the hands of the hackers.
In other words, Sony's security has failed in a spectacular fashion, and we're just now finding out about it. In both practical and PR terms, this is a worst-case scenario.
What did they get?
Here is the data that Sony is sure has been compromised if you have a PlayStation Network Account:
* Your name
* Your address (city, state, and zip)
* Country
* E-mail address
* Birthday
* PSN password and login name
"It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained," Sony announced. While the company claims that there is "no evidence" that credit card information has been compromised, it won't rule out the possibility.
I had a sneaking suspicion this would be the case, seeing as it's been.. what, five days since PSN went down? God help them if their customers' financial information got lost. I can hear the backlash train a-coming now
I say, they should offer their members free service for two months or more and people who actually have had their credit card information stolen, used and and abused and can prove it, free lifetime membership and money to clear their name.
U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal Demands Answers From Sony in Wake of PSN Breach

Sony says PSN 'intrusion' compromised personal info; hopes to have 'some services' back 'within a week'
Serriously?! Wow...got so used to getting money sucked out of me to enjoy a game that I figured the service was suscription based like XBL.
Har, thanks to having a 40GB PS3 model I never really considered buying anything on PSN and as such have never given them my credit card info.
My personal data, well, not nice, but easier to get anyway, may have to think about changing my passwords when it's back online though.
I also wonder whether they can catch the hackers.
Why oh why does this have to be over my spring break? no PSN over spring break stuck at home? wtf.
I wonder why they don't put it back up, I mean, what else can they steal?
http://us.playstation.com/support/an....htm?a_id=2356
New FAQ posted up by Sony in regards to the breach.
Oh fun.
Only have my CC info stored on 3 sites. Amazon, Steam & PSN. After this, only two sites and if I have to change a new credit card, none. Been changing passwords on email and some other sites to be on the very safe side.
And oh, now I got to keep an eye on my credit card info. I sincerely hope they offer something tangible in return for these troubles, downtime is one thing, but having personal information and especially credit card information stolen is a damn big nono. A one or two year free membership for Playstation Plus or a coupon to buy PS3 games (preferably not from PS Store since it has a damn limited selection compared to most retail stores).
Effing wonderful
I don't think anything financal is on there, but still
Your new passwords and credit cards, of course!
My guess is that they are completely revamping how all that data is stored. They haven't come out with details on how the data was stored prior to the intrusion. If the passwords were stored in plaintext, they are just stupid. If the passwords were hashed, they can be brute-forced offline if the entire account DB was stolen. I'm guessing personal info was plaintext, and credit card numbers not encrypted.
If you use the same password from PSN on other online accounts, you may want to change that now.
IT WILL CHANGE HOW WE THINK ABOUT ONLINE SECURITY FOREVER
Sigh.... Sony
Heh, well, I was aware of such risks before, but despite my hesitation to give my details to Sony (which was mostly because they said they would round everything up to multiples of 5€, meaning I'd usually give them some more money than I'd actually have to pay, even if the rest would stay for the next purchase), I didn't expect their security to be so lax.
Then again my address is also in the phonebook, so hacking Sony's network to get it seems like overkill. ~;)

Latest Penny Arcade comic strip. (Will admit, I have no idea why the hill is labeled Stem-Cell research)
No Class Action if the PSN terms & conditions require individual arbitration. At least in the USA.

Sony plans to offer free downloads of unidentified "content," 30 days of free PlayStation Plus access to new and existing members, and 30 days of free Qriocity service. The paper also says that PSN service will be restored "soon."
At least it's something
..........Still not up.....THIS IS BULLHOCKEY!!!!
Sony is going to be lucky if they are ever allowed to process credit cards again.

Definitely not PCI DSS compliant. :no:Quote:
According to Spafford, security experts monitoring open Internet forums learned months ago that Sony was using outdated versions of the Apache Web server software, which "was unpatched and had no firewall installed." The issue was "reported in an open forum monitored by Sony employees" two to three months prior to the recent security breaches, said Spafford.
Nope :/
They say another attack on the network is already planned and hackers supposedly still have access to it, so that may explain why it's still not up.
It's really nice of those hackers to stand up for everybody's linux enjoyment on the PS3, no? Heroes of the people! :2thumbsup:
Well Linux functionality was really nice, so was the promised backward compability THE XBOX DOESN'T HAVE. But because it's Sony you get only a fraction of whatever WILL FOREVER CHANGE HOW WE THINK ABOUT whatever. Screw Sony, pity I need a playstation to play the best exclusives otherwise I would absolutely buy a 360.
Even though I do prefer PS3, I have to admit, Fragony, that Xbox exclusives as a whole are better. Gears of War, Halo, can't think of others ATM but they tend to be better, and American games. Whereas PS3 exclusives, with the huge exceptions of God of War, Killzone, and Demons Souls, tend to be crappy Japanese junk. Not that I dislike the japanese for anything, but the general kind of game produced by them tends to be more geared for anime fans, of which I gladly say I am not.
Than why prefer the PS3 the 360 version is almost always better.Depends on what you like I guess, you just have a broader reach as the best xbox titles are playable on pc as well. These obscure Japanese titles are hit and miss, but they are all exclusive to ps3 because Sony owns these studio's. I would absolutely buy a ps3 for the upcomming Team Ico game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHzHoMT5eRg (games you mention justify a purchage as well), but I don't need an xbox to play Halo or Gears
According to the PSN blog the relaunch will be even further delayed, on to the 3 weeks then *sigh*.
Also, Sony stocks fell with 6.75% since the outage, karma is a ***** I guess, I'm going to laugh at monday when stock markets around the world reopen.
Gears 3 and Halo 3+onwards are xbox only. I actually have halo 1 and 2 on pc :P.
and i prefer ps3 because first, most of my friends play ps3.
second, graphics are better.
third, PSN is free.
fourth, the interface is (for me) simpler.
fifth, they dont seem as money-hungry as microsoft. MS points seem deceptive to me, whereas PSN money is 20 bucks for 20 bucks. so you know exactly how much youre paying, you dont have to pay with points for downloads while you dont know how much you're really spending.
So I don't think I'll ever let Sony have my personal info. It's like they didn't even care.
Also - MS points are designed to nickel and dime you, since you can (IIRC) only buy certain quantities of points, and not the exact quantity you need to purchase something.

As far as sony knows, I live 1400 miles away...my cousin sucks anyways.
I prefer the playstation. I just dont like having to pay to play a game online, especially considering that first person shooters (the games I tend to play the most on consoles) nowadays are pretty much worthless without multiplayer. Exclusives? Bah. I like the japanese crap that everybody seems to hate and I have a computer.
Someone one YouTube vowed to give away $10 PSN cards if PSN isn't up on the 14th, which is today.
Well could log in and do a system-upgrade, but because it's Sony it still doesn't work. Fail
THE DROUGHT IS OVER!
Lets hope the welcome back packages offer anything good.
*Off to turn on PS3*
No Krusader, Norway is not yet online.
Enjoy online play, ACIN.
Anyway, the rumors are that Europe and Japan will go online at 4:00 Dutch (and Norwegian) time.
PS: Krusader, shouldn't you be working on EBII instead? :whip:
But do stop by for one of the best unit conception threads yet. Alin/Tux has really surpassed himself.
its down.....AGAIN
Working fine for me.
hell i just want the store back up so i can download my crysis 2 stuff. probably wont even play the junk they give us.
If they're giving away Infamous for free, I'd highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't have it already. Definitely one of my best PS3 gaming experiences. Just remember to choose the evil path.... cuz good is dumb.
I'll probably get Dead Nation, but I don't know what I'd take for my second freebie.... none of the others really interest me.
LittleBigPlanet of course, it's nevernding awesome. But you already own it. Don't you???(!)
I actually have none of those games. LBP isn't really up my alley(I think), because its creativity based for getting longevity out of it. Might go with Infamous and that racing game, which looks pretty good.
Sony gets hacked again.
CRQuote:
A hacker group has engineered yet another attack on the computer networks of Sony Corp, a setback to the Japanese company's efforts to move past a security crisis that erupted in April.
The group, which calls itself LulzSec, said on Thursday that it broke into servers that run Sony Pictures Entertainment websites, and then compromised the personal information of more than 1 million Sony customers.
Sony officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
It posted some of the data it accessed on the Web -- including the names, home and email addresses, and passwords of some customers. But said it did not have the resources to extract and publish all of what it collected.
"From a single injection, we accessed EVERYTHING," the hacking group said in the statement. "Why do you put such faith in a company that allows itself to become open to these simple attacks?"
