The Octosquids are a species of Molluscs. When found, scientists presumed them to be an entirely new species (although this theory was later disproved).

This discovery was mentioned in the Backroom where some members joked that it was an alien group here to take over the world. Since then its become a bit of a custom to blame abnormal events on Octosquids.
