MI is now STW + new stuff.

No real reason not to go to MI now...

There are still some main differences between old STW and MI (as I can still remember)

    1. The looks of Naginata
    2. The horde
    3. The reinforcement pattern
    4. The building cost and time
    5. The new units (esp. the Mongol)

It is hard to say which one is better. But people feel happy when presented with new stuff. Every excellent game will be forgotten eventually, and we can still call STW (series) the best strategy game we've ever played.

I think the old server will be ok for a while surely they will release shogun on budget sooner or later

Am I alone in thinking MI still sucks, even with the patch? The gameplay is very poor compared to the old STW and consequently I believe a lot of skill has gone out of the game.Superficially I thought the patch was ok, but after playing online for almost a week I realise that even with the patch MI is still a totally different game than STW, and stands up rather poorly in comparison. I'm severely tempted to go back to STW, the only thing stopping me is reservations on the number of players still on the old server.

You might not be alone, but you're definitely in the minority. I think MI is exceptional, and the fcat that this patch has been released to try and unify the community speaks to how concerned the devs are with everyone having a good time.

What's so poor about the new gameplay? if it's little stuff (which it most likely is, no offense), why let this interfere with your overall enjoyment? Seems to me that gameplay in MI is at worst only different than STW, and in many cases is better.

    Oh well.

Maybe its an experienced v newbie phenomena. I dont know many experienced players who are happy with MI patched or otherwise. The bottom line is that the morale/unit balances are messed up. This should not come as a surprise as the guy who designed the original morale/ unit balances wasnt involved in th development of MI, and it shows.....big time!! Muskets are just too powerful now and its ruining the game, maybe it's time too look for a new game to play until crusaders comes out.

    I am with you, ShadeWraith.

MI patch is almost ready but based on what I have seen on this forum, I am not bying MI. Of course it has nothing to do with my needing at least 5 hours sleep per day, and not wanting to look like a game addict to my gf

Seriously from what the veterans said here, the on-line thing still hasn't been sorted out, while the campaigns are, maybe more interesting, but definitely too easy, so much as to be barely worth playing. For instance, new units are fun, but the training features and fast building speed on the infrastructures definitely have ruined the game. The fun of STW is not about having armies with EVERY SINGLE UPDATES avaible, but with less than perfect units, shaggy economy, but still prevail...

-It's okay now, it'll pull through Nurse Killa (hehe) just make sure you give it attention and a regular checkup.

    What a lot of bollox!

Could it be possible to co-ordinate times when we are on the old server? Or is that too much of a mission.

Personally I don't wanna play the new one - it sucks. It would be great though if all the people disatisfied with MI could make a combined assault on the old server. Besides I am blatantly getting worse playing newbies all the time.

I popped back into the old server last night, it was very sad to see only about 8 people in the foyer. This was at about 9.30pm GMT usually you would expect to see at least 30+ people online, its a shame they appear to have virtually killed of STW.Personally I cant understand why everyone still plays MI. They may as well play STW all the online games are Sengoku ie same troop types as STW. No one uses the new units kensai bn etc. also no one utilises any of the new game types, all games are still last man standing. So looking at it logically all everyone is doing is playing STW with botched up morale!!

    Gah!

Krast was lurking in old STW for a while, but now most of Krast's mates are in MI.

So, Krast is in MI. With the patch it seems ok, but ... there are problems.

The good parts aren't much better than the old, and the Mongol unit games just ... suck.

But, there it is. The march of progress.

The patch improved MI immeasurably - IMHO there is no reason not to play it now.

In particular, the Mongols are a lot more fun with the increased costs - you HAVE to use a cavalry heavy army aggressively (I use exclusively cavalry with the exception of a couple of units of skirmishers), and not just use Mongol units as you would the nearest Japanese equivalents.

As to new units, Kensai, no.. but despite some historical scepticism as to the unit being there in the first place, I use battlefield ninja a lot. Very potent for the points cost if used properly.
