Thread: Poor poor AI

    Default Poor poor AI

This has probably been discussed earlier but i take it again in that case.

Im currently playing as Carthage and i gain victory after victory based on almost one thing. No i don't think im a militairy genuis. It's because i have cavalry and the enemy doesn't.

Currently fighting Gauls and Iberians and they don't seam to build any cavalry. It's rather easy to be outnumberd 10:1 and still win if you have cavalry superiority. Or should I say: you have cavalry and the enemy has not.
Same thing with the romans, hordes of infantry and hardly no cavalry.

This bring another annoying AI stupidity to the very heart of battle. Since the only cavalry unit present for the enemy is his general, he will send him in the first line and in 9 out of 10 times get him killed in the opening minutes of the battle. (PS. as you probably noticed this happens eaven when the enemy actually have a lot of cavalry. Annoying!)

This must be dealt with to the next patch. Hell, i play this game for the challange not for easy victories.

There is one exeption though, the Ptolemaic Empire. But their generals are still as supid as always... no matter what empire. Those egyptians seamed to have some AI trigger to build cavalry forces. Implement it on the others too please...

It seems to me that the AI values cavalry far less than I do but I still see all of their decent armies have a fair amount of cavalry, though I alwaysd have cavalry superiority due to the fact that my Seleucid empire has the 2 most powerful charge cavalry I can think of, Cataphracts and Companion Cavalry and I also have some elephants from Carthage and Antioch, so I just overpower their cavalry in a single charge and then flank them! This is against the Brutii and Scipii, I believ I have faced a similar issue in all my battles to near dominance of the map except when I fought the 4 factions immediately neighboring you t the start, Egypt, Pontus, Armenia and Parthia, but 2 out of 4 are cavalry factions so...

On campaign VH, even my rebels usually have cav. As has been posted by others in other threads, I am SOOOOOOOOOOO tired of fighting 2,3 or more rebel armies a turn that I could scream. In fact, I think I will. Whew. That feels better.

I guess the problem is not the lack of cavalry, but the lack of wisdom to use cavalry like (experienced) human players do. I recently fought against the Macedon that 70% of their army was cavalry.

BTW, AI Eastern generals & Egyptian generals are very annoying cavalry types because they are always on skirmish mode...

The reality is, that in a sense RTW got the cavalry thing right in terms of history. They weren't in their most developed form, but they were still very powerful anyway. The phalanx is the only problem for cav.
