Yes I did read the guide here but I still need help. If anybody is kind and be willing to help me through the first few steps of this game I would really appreciate it. I don't get the city management part, please PM me on how to school me, I want to rule the world!

Ok let me be a bit more precise, ie, I start a new campaing as Julii, I took over that small village and occupy it. What do I do next?

Thanks Chemchock, this help alot. But I was thinking more on the terms of what to build first and what basic steps I should do early in the game. ei. what do I make a governor's palace first? And so on, thanks!

Hi djsway, I'm currently playing as the Julii too and the first few things to do is to build a port and military buildings. If you do feel lost you could click on the advisor button inside the city panel and she'll pop up to guide you on what to build next.

    Hope this helps

I've haven't read thoroughly her guid, but if you really want to know what to build first then ask the advisor in game (Victoria).
Personally I favor ports and roads first then market and farms. I much prefer having a strong economy before starting to build up my military strength. If you're a rusher then you should focus on the military aspect rather than the economic one.

If the frog says, "build roads first", then by all means do build roads first.
    It is really that easy.

And by the way - just play ahead. This game isn`t so difficult. It´s a game, not higher mathematiks. Go ahead, if you make some mistakes it`s fine, you will still win.
Your progress in the game will be quite slow if you ask here before every building you constuct.
If you don`t like the aproach of try and error, you have your advisors and frogs guide - seriously, no one can ask for more.

In RTW & STW (probably also MTW?) I find army upkeep very expensive, so you even if you rush, you can still only afford to produce good troops in a few provinces or you will go bankrupt.

If the town you just occupied does not have a suitable military building for hastati/equite, then probably don't bother even building one because that takes at least 3 turns to complete & train your first soldier there - by that time your main army is already 2-3 turn of march away.

    A good rule of thumb:

If you can't afford your current army, attack someone.

If you win, more territory = more income.

Even if you lose, less army = less cost.

Hey I'll try that, I made alliances with the Gaul, who should I attack?

There are many play styles that work. I personally find that concentrating on economic structures and roads early pays off, because your early units can do well against the enemy AI, and you get to a point where you are raking in the cash and can start building up better armies because of it.

As for who to attack first, there is really no right or wrong answer. Many different paths can lead to victory, and much of it has to do with what opportunities present themselves and how you happen to feel at the moment. I found focusing on the Gauls early in my Julii campaign was effective, but I have never played the same faction the same way twice (yet) so just enjoy your strategizing and see what works. This is not a puzzle-solving game where there is one right answer. The fun is in the trial and error.

You're a Roman. This entitles you to attacking who you want, when you want, where you want, etc

But if you mean strategically... Well, the Spaniards seemed fairly easy to conquer when I played as the Julii, plus the territories that way give you better leverage with Naval warfare. The Germans are good targets too since you'll get to smash those uncouth Britons once you've worked your way north a bit. Then you'll have a nice big red splotch on your mini-map to admire.

Enough hand wringing! More teeth smashing violence!

    Have fun, bonne chance!

My strategy in a nustshell (Almond not Walnut): Attack constantly and immediately, if someone is attacking you something is wrong, If your army is outnumbered and underpowered for the fight ahead take a risk and force a brutal battle killing as many as possible, even if you lose the enemy army should be depleted into such a small force that a small garrison can eliminate it while having tea, If have really good men with really bad men, use the bad soldiers to focus enemy attacks then flank with superior men, case in point 8 or so militia hoplite units(depleted) and 5 almost full strength companion cavalry versus Large well equipped and fully modernized Scipii army complete with 2 scorpions, 1 onager and multiple Legionary cohorts, Militia stood and lost many to onager while smallest companion cav took out siege engines, militia then took roman charge were close to breaking, 4 companion cav flanked and routed superior roman forces while 1 companion cav depleted from onager battle delayed reinforcements, then companions destroyed small reinforcements with a full frontal charge. Battle started out outnumbered and easily outgunned but the brave Seluecid soldiers showed their metal yet again and killed the Scipii to a man.

The only good army is a fighting army!

hello, just trying to help here.
the first of course conserve your strength until you have an army that you think can give a win almost everytime. Then attack and attack and attack. My preferrence of course to push my boundaries until i reach an excellent defense point, usually a province with i can block a road with a fort and where if an enemy try to do 'Hannibal', my army can move faster and force it engage or withdraw.
Also build up your navy, and try to take crete or rhodes. You need the Cretan archers and it would be a waste if we give it to the brutes Brutii.
That's it. Oh one last thing: DON'T BUILD FARMS!!!!!

Farms are a good investement, just never sacrifice military expansion for agriculture, always have military growth take precedence.
