    Default To enslave or exterminate?

I am currently playing my first barbarian campaign as the Britons. Having now conquered about 6 areas now I am finding cash a little tough to come by. The setting are VH/VH and I have made efforts to build up my economy.

So far I have been systematically enslaving as I go, in my last campaign (first as well) I systematically exterminated but I figured with the brits such a 'bltzkrieg' tactic would run out of steam, so a more long term stategy of building up my economy/population was needed.

What is the best thing to do?

It depends on the cities. The ones with a tremendous population growth like Carthage, some Egyptian cities "require" extermination (you get a substantial income from looting and reduce the unrest). Reversely I've found out that barbarian cities take a long time to grow so I prefer enslaving them.
If you're running out of cash choose the extermination though

To enslave is certainly preferred when you are not urgently needing money. You keep the pop. to beef up other places and you usually have a huge pop. boom (as high as 100% happiness) after a lot of enslavement in the region.

Or else you can exterminate first, then lose the town (either as a gift or by its own revolt), then enslave again to receive the same enslavement public order bonus.

You might not even want to enslave if the population is just a couple of thousand... it would take ages for the population to regenerate.

In the early game, like this, I find little difference between enslavement / extermination. In fact, I just go ahead and occupy until I reach a city well over the 6K mark - usually around 8K I'll start worrying about it.

Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill them all.

Any city which rebels against my rule or forces my armies to assualt its walls is automatically put to the sword.

I found enslaving is the better way to go. I conquered 90 territories and only extermitated 4 of them. The 3 nile cities and Corduba. The rest of the high populace cities are usually not a problem as they are usually a decent distance from your capital so you do'nt get that big penalty. The only reason Corduba and Egyptian cities is a problem is the distance to capital problem. Romans should not have a problem with Carthage as I've heard so many times. For some cities I go to conquer I bring a baggage train .... a stack of peasants following behind the army to garrison the city after I conquer it. If it;s north of Patavium I enslave it just so the population can actually grow.

early in a campaign i occupy settlements, generally there nearer my setlement.& less likely to rebel the further away i get i enslave, to bolster my other settlements,
i find the nearer you come to destroying a faction the more unrest there is so crucifiction is the way
