Default Elephant - how to make them charge?

I've noticed that sometimes the elephants get "excited" and decides to kick through the crowd like lawn mower. Suddenly there are much more soldiers flying around. That is one of the most amazing gaming moment I have ever experienced.

Does anybody know how do you start, and keep elephants charging? Double click usually just make them walk faster. Thanks for replying.

Well no one could really control elephants. You just have to charge move away and then charge again. That's how it works with all mobile units.

hit the fringes of the group or weak sections the elephants crush through into open area turn and hit um again but that only works on wide spaced units if there densely packed the ones in front do a superman(up, up, and awaaaaaaay) but the elephants stop

Attack the enemy unit that is behind the unit you want to mow down. This will make the elephants set their eyes on the unit behind and bulldoze their ways to get to it.

Always keep your elephants on the move. They are invincible when they are moving.

I find that they only start charging when they get close to the enemy.

its been my experiience that they need a lot of space to build up momentum. a lot more space than say an infantry unit. if you charge them from farther away than you would if you were to charge with infantry, they plow through units.

Charge 'em through, then bring them back. They can get bogged down. When they are moving they are quite deadly.

Elephants are not particularly fast in real life. They don't really run if I remember correctly, more like a fast paced walk rather than a different gait. The numbers I have seen suggested a person could outrun them for a short distance if not encumbered with extra weight (armour, swords/spears, etc.) Horses and the like have a variety of gaits that are used for different speeds.

Funny, cos the number of ~60km/hr comes to mind...
But then, those numbers seem to apply to hippos & rhinos too, so its probable that at least one is wrong

[edit]After a quick bit of googling, Asian elephants have been reliably clocked at over 15miles/hr ie 25km/hr
Meanwhile a quick calculation shows a fast 100m sprint time of 10seconds equates to 36km/hr
