Default 0.74 Beta Traits, Ancillaries, and Scripting Bugs, Issues, and Problems

Post any bugs, issues, or problems you have with the EB Traits, Ancillaries, or Scripts with the 0.74 patch here.

If possible, include a screenshot of the problem. This can convey a lot of information to me without words. Next best is a description of the problem, including the faction, the character's other traits, the year, and the season.

This first post will be used to compile the problems that have been posted, so please read before posting: your problem may have already been discovered or fixed.

If you don't post here or in the official bugs thread, it will probably be missed or forgotten.

I was just wondering if anyone would be able to help me with a prob I have with EB?

I just dled the mod and every time I try to run the game I get this Script Error message:

Script Error in data\descr_event_images.txt, at line 623, column 1

    Unknown event string faction_defeated_by_player

    Any help would be great,

    Cheers,

    Scott.

You need to make sure the 1.2 patch is installed correctly. Would I be right in guessing that you've tried to install it and it said it was already installed? If so, there's your problem. Go to www.europabarbarorum.com and download the zipped patch, that bypasses the bugged installer.

Besides, it's not really a scripting issue anyway...

This is a known problem with an improper install or bad install. Ensuring you have 1.2 installed is part of the solution, absolutely. Kull posted a long list of steps to follow before now, I'll see if I can find it.

    It was in this thread.

    1) Uninstall RTW from your machine (lets start with a clean slate)
    2) Install RTW (vanilla) and start the game to make sure it works. That means you can begin a normal RTW game.
    3) Install the 1.2 patch. Start the game and make sure you see the 1.2 on the start up screen and can begin a normal RTW game.
    4) If you have room on your hard drive, I'd recommend copying the entire 1.2 directory and renaming the copy something like "Rome - EB.72". That way if something gets messed up in the next few steps, you don't have to keep reinstalling RTW, just delete the EB directory and make a new copy.
    5) Install EB v.72. Launch the game from the desktop icon. If it works, move on to step #6. If it crashes download a new EB v.72 (from a different host) and repeat steps 4 & 5.
    6) Install EB v.74 on top of v.72. DO NOT install the "High Priority" icon!! Start the game and make sure you see the EB v.74 on the start up screen. By now it's either working or it crashed. If it crashes, download a new EB v.74 (from a different host) and repeat steps 4, 5, & 6.

Let us know how this goes.

Well I've reinstalled everything and I'm no longer getting that script warning. Instead now it starts up, gets to the Europa Barbarorum intro screen with the world map in the background and it just stops there until I eventually hit ESC to get out of it.

    Any idea what's wrong?

    Cheers,

    Scott.

A properly installed EB on top of a clean version of RTW with only 1.2 installed (no other mods), will not have any errors upon loading or exiting the game, before you have actually played. There are a few you will encounter during play, but if the download worked correctly and the installation worked correctly, and there were no leftovers in the RTW directory from previous installations or other mods, you would be able to play.

So whenever anyone runs into a problem like this, I recommend going through the steps above. No one has ever solved a pre-being-able-to-play bug by any method other than a reinstall, and most importantly, deleting the leftovers from old installations between uninstalling and reinstalling. This is especially important if you have had any mods other than EB installed, or any version of RTW installed other than 1.2.

Are you installing on top of your BI install? Because that will mess it up for sure. Make sure you are installing to your RTW folder with version 1.2, not any other version or any changes or mods ect, and it should work for you.

For some reason, my romans get the warmonger trait, then they get they the sated warmonger trait, but after a few more battles, he gets the warmonger trait and the sated warmonger trait at the same time. I think this might be a bug in that they're not set as anti-traits of each other?

Also, for some reason the hesitant attacker trait pops up a little too often i think. I mean he didnt hesitate to attack 12 battles, and then he hesitated in one battle and he got the trait.

You can get a zipped version of the 1.2 patch from www.europabarbarorum.com in the patches section, I think.

I dled the mod from the MOD secton in EB and unzipped the 1.2 version file, but when I try to install it I get this message saying:

This application has failed to start because MSS32.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

I have re-installed it several times and still nothing.

I'm sorry to constantly bothering you all with this. Any help would very much be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Scott.

You need a separate installation of RTW, because you can't install 1.2 on top of BI.

You will have to install RTW somewhere else, then install 1.2, then EB. If you install BI at any time the program will be updated to 1.5 and EB cannot run on it, and if you try to install 1.2 on top of it, you will crash.

That is why we state in no uncertain terms that you must have a clean install with only 1.2 on top of RTW; anything higher will cause a crash, even if you try to install 1.2 on top of it. And, if you try to install 1.2 on top of it, you won't be able to play RTW at all any longer.

Here's a few Yes/No questions to help you out (hopefully):

    1) Have you installed RTW Gold?
    - Yes: Sorry. That means you are starting off with v1.5, and EB is not yet compatible with that.
    - No: Good. Go to #2

    2) Do you have Barabarian Invasions Installed?
    - Yes: You will have to uninstall it. In fact you might be better off completely uninstalling RTW and starting from scratch.

    3) Follow the instructions in this post EXACTLY!

They shouldn't be antitraits. "Sated" and "Restless" Warmonger are antitraits, but are only available once the Warmonger trait is gained. It's possible that the conditions to become a warmonger and to be sated happen on the same turn, that's why you're getting both messages at the same time.

Also, for some reason the hesitant attacker trait pops up a little too often i think. I mean he didnt hesitate to attack 12 battles, and then he hesitated in one battle and he got the trait.
One of the antitraits is no longer available, so that trait probably needs some work to make it harder to get now. Thanks!

guys can you modify the spear cavalry which have the swords aswel to bring out their swords a bit more often because in closae combat or when chasing down routers it's really annoying wasting my time directing the cavalrly when they could easily be slaughtered by swords

What´s with all theese movement-traits? I constantly get guys that are/ have "forced marching", "on his death bed", "vintercampaigning", "tired" etc etc stacked upon eachother. Upon 10 bad movement traits I get sometimes the handy "geographer" comes up once. The AI seems hellbent on handing out bad traits and I feel that this system isn´t working well. I do accept restrictions like seasoning and an occasional one due to my general gets wounded or something but this is not working well. Let me give you an example:

In of my current campaign as the Seleukids I have 5 armygroups all led by generals that started with "good tactician", "well supplied" etc traits and all now have serious movement penalties.
*One guy can only move some 1,5-2 cm on the stratmap each turn.
*My general that I sent with really good traits to conquer the arabian peninsula got so severe traits after a couple of reb-battles and taking Dumatha that it took him over 12 turns (4 years!!!!) to get from Dumatha to the next one in the south part (north of Ma´rib). This is NOT fun nor realistic.
*My general in asia minor took three turns to get from Ancyra to Sinope which in my book is one turn too much etc etc.

    @psrammses
if your generals get to many bad movement traits (like forced marching and so on...), you have to let them rest for one or two turns, or move slowlier ( dont use all movement points) to recover from their exhausting travel. If your generals are supplied badly (because they were in enemy territory) then you can go back to your on province, pillage (if you are to far away from an city), or capture a settlement.

    @Voevod al Moldovei
until the port to 1.5 lances are better in close combat than swords, it has
something to do with the bugged charge bonus and unit stats, and has nothing to do with traits.
