    Default Larger Barbarian Cities

Hi, I was over at the TWCenter and I found a preview of Lusted's MOD:

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=50452

He seems to have made it so that Barbarian towns can grow beyond level 3. I personally think this makes playing a Barbarian faction a lot more enticing.

However, I'm not really sure how realistic this is. How many barbarian towns actually grew that big? I guess if only some of the historically large barbarian cities have the resources to grow that big would make this viable, but I just thought it would be interesting to see what the EB people thought.

In my experience and knowledge the Barbarians were definently capable of having humongous cities, but as the cities grew, the more civilized they became.

It depends which 'barbarians' you're talking about. Some Celtic settlements were certainly very large, Germanic populations were almost completely non-urban though. They really shouldn't even have anything bigger than villages, but the engine won't allow us to do their demographic realities justice.

your not able to set at what level the cities grows to the next one, at least without effecting all cities? It seems like if you were to just raise the limits on how many people till the next city, you could still have massive populations but only 3 levels.

The problem is that the Germans share the same culture slot as the Celts, I think. So, any change to the Germanic buildings would also change the Celtic buildings.

I think the Getai should really be able to grow cities beyond level 3. The Romans took a Dacian city by cutting the underground water pipes. My capital should be better than a small city.

I believe the romano-dacian wars are way out of EB's timeframe.

Errr, Mediobogdum has a point here. The Dacians built huge citadels and constructed great cities during the reign of Burebista ( 70-44 BC).

Here is an actual reconstruction of Blidaru fortress during Burebista's reign. For obvious limitations of the RTW engine, the EB team sadly cannot include this superb citadels in the mod . But the dacians did build large cities nevertheless during EB's timeframe.

I think if you control the amount of food available in the province, then you can limit how large the city can get, or at the very least how fast it grows. I'm not so sure though...

So say there are certain provinces that have larger amounts of food to make up for limits in Barbarian health improvements. Most of the barbarian cities would not grow to be very big since they lack the necessary improvements, but certain provinces that were historically large could have more food. Also, make it so that by level 4 some Barbarian civs can build more health improvements so they can keep growing.

So I'm not sure if this can be done or even if EB wants it to be done, but since it is historically accurate in some Barbarian cities, maybe this could be done some time in the future?
