We generally have to be old & crotchety, and make comments about "you young whippersnappers" all the time. We're also supposed to complain that back in our day, we had to navigate our way to the forums on a 28k modem uphill....both ways.

The viagra jokes are the worst..

Jest aside, this is a well-deserved promotion, Caravel. I have come to know you as a very valuable .Org member, the kind that is most helpful and has a fine sense of humour, a great posting style and a thorough grasp of M:TW.

Congrats Caravel. Good job on all accounts and well deserved. (It seems like people should be shouting SPEECH SPEECH).

there I think I drummed up enough for an acceptable congratulatory celebration.

Caravel (or Caravellini) as i first "met" him,

is one of my favorite posters eversince his days at the com.
His wit (quick and originally british), his humor ("it reminds me of the days i was waxing cars and was known as caravelotto san", "only if they make elmo grand vezieer of the sublime thonged ones") and his unsatified thirst and undying love for (Medieval) TW will be always remembered and celebrated!

    Congrats on your seniority Caravel

It's not necessarily all about physical age, more so mental age. Martok and myself behave like old duffers, regularly gurning and shaking our sticks (bonus vs cavalry of course) at RTW players (who are all under 14 and have never played any of the other TW games ever). In our day there was real strategy, most notably the brilliant Viking Huscarle bumrush and historically accurate units such as Almohad Urban Militia, Berserkers, Byzantine Infantry, Hashishin, the Kensai and the Battlefield Ninja! We had to fight on real hills and cross real bridges and... and...

Im glad it dosent have anything to do with physical age, you keep shaking the stick at RTW players, I am an old STW player (still have it) I almost passed out when there werent going to be assassin movies....

anyway congrats on the promotion, you certainly add a lot to the boards I enjoy your insights a lot.

I'll second that, and raise you a congratulations to bamff on being runner-up for the MTW AAR award.

LOL! Ah, gotta love your sense of humour, Caravel.

You're quite right, though: I think being a "senior" member is far more about state of mind than actual age. Those of us that talk about the "good old days", and that gush that Shogun and Medieval being the very pinnacle of strategy gaming excellence, etc....

    Congratulations, Caravel.

"I remember the first time I met Caravel. It was in a bar in a quiet corner of San Fransisco, 1932, and he was ever an optimistic young gentlemen who had aspirations to run his own business. The Depression hadn't dampened his soul one bit. He claimed pessimism only made things worse..."

Well, it wouldn't be much of a congratulations without me being smartass, now, would it?
I believe in a society without rules, laws and regulations. A society where there are only ideas - strict ideas that must be followed to by the letter - and any failure to comply is punishable by death. This would be no dictatorship or police state, no one would be living in terror. It would merely be a 'reassessment of one's preferences,' people living in 'not-so-optimistic security.' So, welcome, those who are 'longing to be blindly obedient and loyal, unbeknownst to them.'
