Just fought the battle and won with 125 losses. Save is uploaded. A bit busy right now so I will put up pictures and the battle report later

You might want to put a placeholder down in the battle reports thread. What were the French losses? (I'm compiling a table of all battles this reign).

Just to clarify did we ambush a Crusading army or did they ambush us and the end result is an excommunication?

Think the imperial army was in ambush mode, off road and in some ambush terrain, waiting for the next turn and the Danish Crusading army went by us in their turn, automatically triggering the ambush. This result in us attacking a crusading army thus the excomm.

Sicily is still our ally, we shouldn't piss them off as they are a key to being reconciled. Remember, if a Pope vote comes up, they'll vote for our Cardinals, and if we vote for their candidates we can rebuild our shattered standing.

Just did battle report. It looks like the French has some pretty large armies near our borders. I think Swabia will have alot of battles in the next term.

How the hell do you kill an army with double the numbers and only lose 90 soldiers?

Scratch that, it seems pretty obvious now. You're fighting spearmen with DFK in a forest.

Has anyone seen our production differences from the rest of the nations? It's complete domination.

Well first off it was a ambush, they lost about 200 to that. It was real chaos, couldn't see my units,their units, only bloody trees!AH!!! But I ganged up on them from behind, routed them that way. And really early on Jobst killed Harald which was a blow.

The Danes were ambushed, which means you can set up while seeing the disposition of their forces. They deploy in a column, while you can deploy in a "U" around them. I think there is also a morale hit for them.

If this had been a straight up fight, it would have been more difficult, but of course, if our army hadn't ended the turn in ambush mode, none of this would have happened.

Anyone else reminded of Camlann? Where Mordred and Arthur are in parley, but then a knight draws a sword to strike at a snake, and it all goes to hell.

Have you seen what happens next? I don't want to spoil it but it's so quick that it makes no difference.

I've have a few successful ambushes and it is very realistically done as you have stated OK.

I remember the scene you are mentioning OK. I'm hoping we could do something like that with the Mongol's ;-)

Just to clarify, Prince Haakon is the Danish conspirator in this little matter, he's in Stockholm. The Danish family member, Harald, who was at the battle, was not complicit, just unlucky. At least when the poor bastard kicked it, he was in a state of grace.

We don't know about Haakon's and Dusan's (Otto should have cut his throat ) plotting. All we know IC is that something went very, very wrong. Which is why Otto was calling for an inquiry.

I've picked up Warluster's save. The Pope died, so I took the liberty of voting for our Cardinal who won thanks in part to the votes of our Sicilian allies. So, we are no longer excommunicated and can join the crusade on Damascus. However, our reputation has taken a hit with all Catholics:
