I had heard that they were making another attempt at DNF, looks like it may actually be true. A shame though, if released it will need to be removed from the Vaporware Hall of Fame.

Hint to developers, never use an acronym for your game that auto racing uses for "Did Not Finish".

This will be funny, I wonder how long they will last this time?

I'll believe it when I see the game for sale on the shelves. Even if that happens, DNF will always remain the top of the Vaporware Hall of Fame simply due to its unbeatable record-breaking run. It's an amazing world we live in when Daikatana is just a forgotten runner-up in Vaporware discussions.

He looks a little like Bruce Willis in that first screenshot

So after all this time it seems they are finally making a new game, well it's been a long time but I'm sure the wait will be worth it with todays graphics. And you gotta love the voice lol.

It's no longer Duke Nukem Forever. It's Duke Nukem Whenever. Seriously, I stopped caring about seven years ago. Diakatana may have been one steaming pile of crap, and John Romero single-handedly killed Looking Glass Software, but at least the game was released.

My first thought when reading the thread title was "Duke.... Duke? Duke who? Who the hell is ******* Duke?"

It then occurred to me it is the long-awaited schmuck. As I then opened the first linked picture in this thread's first post and I waited for its opening I saw a few words written saying something about him looking like Bruce Willis. When the picture was finally loaded, I thought "What the ****? He really looks like Willis. What a cheap rip-off."

*southern accent* The Duke's dead, m'boys... *clears his nose* And he ain't retirn, ya know whaddah mean? He dead, and he gun' stay dead. The game ain't never no how released. It ain't gun' be, y'ear?

Kekvit, I think you should close this thread. It is best if would all not speak of the Duke issue anymore nor even think of it.

If the trailer is anything to go by, they still have a long way to go. One minute long, mainly cinematic, with about 6 seconds worth of actual in-game rendering. They might be making a push for Christmas 2008, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Just because someone doesn't like the game, doesn't mean it's not discussion-worthy.

Also... the original Duke Nukem (and most especially Duke Nukem 3D) Duke has been modeled after (and having quotes from) characters like Arnold Schwarzenegger in his many movies, Bruce Campbell in the "Evil Dead" series, and (Rowdy) Roddy Piper in the movie "They Live". Duke Nukem 3D has been one of the most iconic 3D shooters of the 90s because Duke is so stereotypical, he's lovable.

Bruce Willis? He looks more like Eighties cult legend Max Headroom, albeit seriously pumped up on some steroids.

Duke is so lovable because he is one of the few protagonists to ever deliver on his more 'extreme' promises to the baddies. There is a classic boss fight and cutscene in the original game where Duke promises an alien nasty "I'm going to cut off your head... and down your neck!" After dispatching said baddie Duke, true to his word, follows through and does so whilst reading a daily periodical. My friend and I cackled like fiends when we saw that.

As Kekvit Irae said, the great thing about Duke Nukem is that it's so deliciously politically incorrect. Duke has all the endearing qualities of every male macho stereotype and two dimensional Hollyweird action hero of the 80s. He's Clint Eastwood, Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell, Chuck Bronson, Arnold Schwarzenegger AND Chuck Norris all rolled into one.

I do find it rather strange that in the 10+ years of Duke's absence very few developers have dared to copy the Duke Nukem formula. I suppose some have tried but their efforts paled in comparison to the original.

Despite its seemingly eternal vaporware status of DNF there is so much anticipation for this game that even if it does turn out to be a gorgeous 5-6 hour shooter of average quality the sales will be astronomical.

This is why i love america, DUKE NUKEM.

Seems like the Doom 3 engine, i really couldn't care less about the graphics, so long they bring back the one liners and campy content.

    Doom 3 engine? That's sooo 2004.

Anyway, I thought this was the real trailer...

Looks a bit old to me, not really modern graphics. Having never played a Duke game so far I am not and have never been hyped about this anyway.

I predict that in a weeks time they'll suddenly to decide to use a new graphics engine. Again.

Ah well, at least i'll get to play lots of it by time it comes out, i.e my retirement.

I liked the games in the past as a kid, played them a lot, though I liked Shadow Warrior more (which was, of course, superior to Duke Nukem 3D, heheh!). What I mean is that the Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl, is dead and buried. It must remain so. I can imagine him trying to get out of his grave vehemently with much trouble as the graveyard caretakers try to help him out, but they're too old and worn out to do so and he suffers. He is almost dead, so he must be destroyed. And then let him rest peacefully. Duke Nukem Forever Resting. There is no room for his lively presence in this world... now let us close this thread for good You must! It is necessary, woman! Do you know what will happen if you do not??? I do not dare say..... but I know it'll be terrible. TERRIBLE I tell you!

Absolutely! How many long, long hours I spent on DN3D. And I never played another shoot'em up after that, just waited for something in its line to be made.

If what they are supposed to be making is a Duke, just with improved technology, then it's news indeed!

Jesus, I played Duke Nukem (Episode 4: The Birth), and that scared me half-to-death...I hate those demonic Protector Drones and their shrinking...and their altogether scariness!

It better be something, they have changed engines so many times, they must feel they have something great. Bit sceptical, a cool game just wouldnt do it after all this time, I really want to be pleasantly surprised but I doubt that will happen.
