have'nt been to one. come to think of it, I lived within a dozen miles from the battle of al-Kadhima (kuwait), otherwise that's not an EB wonder.
but mom was at the Acroplis in Athens..

The Golden Horn, Ephesos, and Gibraltar. Is Gibraltar an EB-wonder? Come to think about the Pillars of Heracles.

    Nice.

When I first saw the picture of the mausoleum I was a bit confused as I only saw the concrete building in the top of the picture, but then I scrolled down. Which part of your first picture is the remains of the temple of Artemis, the columns in the foreground? What are the other medaeival looking buildings in the picture?

Well, I've been to Rome, Rome and Rome. Have I mentioned Rome?
I go there every year, because I've got relatives there. And if there are any wonders in Italy, I have probably visited them. I suppose that the palace of Dioceltian at Split in Croatia is out of EB's timeframe? But I recommend you to see it if you have the opportunity, its REALLY big, and very impressive.

Here in good old Germany I've only visited some Roman forts and the Limes which they guarded. Well, no EB wonders for me then.

Oh, I've been to Rhodos too, but I think it doesn't count because it's really not that much what's left from the Kolossos. But I think I've once been to the Externsteine, but that must be reeeaaallly long ago...

I've been in pretty much in the same places, plus the monuments in Rome and the Pyramids of Egypt.
I plan to visit Tunisia in September, so I'll visit Carthage too.

ive just come back from the temple of apollo at side in turkey. dont know if it is an EB wonder though.
If it isnt it should be because it must have beenpretty big when it wasnt ruined and even the ruins look nice. though i did get sunburn while there.

Well, the 'wonders of the nilos' (if I remember the name in one of the loading screens correctly).

And, not a wonder but I think the biggest collosseum in Africa, in Tunesia.

And in Berlin we have the Ishtar-Gate of Nebukadnezar from Babylonia :)

Also, not wonders, but nice roman architecture all over Croatia - but that's probably to much off-topic allready.

    Nice threat, though!

By the end of the month, they start a special exhibition in that museum (pergamon-museum) about babylon, wich is called "babylon was not babel" to clear some of the biblical statements..

    Only two.

Stonehenge (Cairncalladryrdan in EB) and Anglesey (called Ynys Duwall in EB, a term I've never heard used for it before). I just stopped by stonehenge on the way through, but I've been to quite a few places in and around Anglesey, since it's closer to home and made a good destination for family holidays and college field trips.

Ive been in almost all Europe, Scotland included, but (except the greco-roman thing) i wasn't very passionate of ancient things at the times... so for example i have been various time in England but never saw Stoneange while for example in France ive visited a lot of roman things, expecially in the zone of Arles, Nimes, Marseille (Massalia) etc... but all out of the EB time frame...

in Italy ive seen (regarding EB) the temples of Paestum, and Agrigentum, i remember i went to Paestum with my motorbike, just hoping to meet a girl i knew at the University, i only knew she lived near Paestum a town called Eboli, so i went there just with the hope to meet here, but i never met her, but i enjoyed the temples a lot of times! And it was even more exciting cause i knew the gerl was living there around, so i started my romantic "meditation" looking at those temples... and a lot of fuel wasted my moneys...

Alas! Alas! And to think I was the only one who had visited the Western-most point of Europe, according to Strabo. Unfortunatly, that's really the only wonder I ever saw.

I thought the wonder in Wales was Puffin Island or Priestholm, that thin little island you can see just off the nothern bit of Anglesey as you drive towards Bangor on the coast road from England?

  29. #29

Default Re: Which wonders have you been to?

No, it is Anglesey itself, because of its apparent importance to Druids.

It is also chock full of beautiful prehistoric sites, but so is much of North Wales.

Ah ok. Whats the significance of Puffin island then, was it a monastic retreat much later on? North wales is great for things like that, I remember wandering around stone circles and dolmens near a hill called Molfre in the northern end of the Carnedau (I think, it was a long time ago). When your'e over there it can feel like youv'e gone back to those times sometimes, its great.
