Try to make some jokes about the gossiping going on about the two of you. Let her know by your behaviour and witty remarks that going out with you will at least be fun. And once you get her smiling or laughing, ask her out.

Then when she enters the room, act nonchalant like she doesn't exist until she comes within conversation distance.
