Well, it would be something of a miracle if the Austrians won. But then again, that's what I thought about Turkey when it was 2-0 to the Czechs last night, and Germany's defence isn't exactly convincing this year.

Yeah, this is the stage where you can predict the teams' strategies, but not the outcomes of their games.

    Day 10
    Final prediction

    Germany 2:1 Austria

    Croatia 2:0 Poland

I was expecting a under strength Portugal side, but not the blind school.

    Matchday 10:

    Germany 2 - 0 Austria Sure Bet

Austria's strikers will keep on missing, Germany to win (hopefully).

    Croatia 2 - 1 Poland

Let's go Croatia, then again they could lose if they do what Portugal did.

    Right, Tuesday's games:

    Match Day 11:

    France 1-1 Italy

    Netherlands 1-1 Romania

Everything hinges on what kind of team the Netherlands field, but I suspect they may field a weakened side and the Romanians certainly look potent enough to get at least one goal; I'm almost tempted to pick Romania to win but don't want to look too silly when Netherlands destroy them 6-0.

One of France or Italy has to step up and win if they are to go through, but unless one of them improves massively in the final game neither truly deserves to go through. It's going to be messy, and likely will hang on scrappy goals and controversial decisions. France look perhaps slightly better but also the shock of their comprehensive thrashing at the hands of the Dutch whirlwind is more fresh. Could go any way, but I'm picking a stalemate and elimination for both just because I feel Romania deserve it more for playing so tenaciously in such a tough group.

Not a day for sure bets, I really feel both games could go either way.

We played without 8 starting elevens and as far as i know Croatia, The Neds and Spain will also put their B teams in the pitch. It's too tempting to give some rest for the A team at this time of the season. So, in the end let's see if UEFA should open an hospital for the blind ones...

The season? Were in the middle of a European Championship tournament! If you want to win, you had better make sure your team stays in a winning mood and doesn't go down 2:0 against a real B-team. If Van Basten does the same this Tuesday he's going to be pelted with eggs and tomatoes, tarred, feathered and hung out to dry on the Matterhorn (south flank).

Our A team could easily be destroyed by the rumanians. We don't have anything to lose but our momentum and momentum is important for the dutch team, see the final phase in the first half against france, they had us nailed. Morale needs to be high we are a very fragile awesome. I am hoping for a draw between France and Italy that's adieu for both. Going to be a fun match between these two.

edit, did I really say magyar?

Need to get my score in:

    Day 10

    Germany - Austria 2-0.
And back to skiing! (Hoping for a fun Austria stunt though... )

Croatia - Poland 0-0. These games where one side has qualified already are a pain to predict. In a real game, Croatia would wipe the floor with Poland. But they've got nothing to play for anymore. Even so, I can't see the Poles win this - the professional Germans will be up 2-0 at half-time, which will demoralise the Poles. [/chrystal ball]

My predictions for day 11 have been made earlier, I'll repeat them for clarities' sake:

Sure bet: France - Italy 5-1
Sure bet: Holland - Romania 1-0

Having the referee a null a valid goal and all the shenanigans with the penalties kicks later on didn´t help any either....

not that I didn´t see it coming....what happened yesterday was a result of us playing our b-side and a referee that was willing to give the Swiss their feel-good moment....why not against a side that was already assured the top spot in the group?....the reactions from the Portuguese side were very restrained considering what went on with the referee....I think there was a very clear understanding of what going on and they just let it slide.

an organizing country puts a lot of money into these things and a certain "consideration" is expected......hell....Portugal itself sure got a few nudges in our road to the final in 2004 ourselfs.

Not really clear to me. Mind filling me in here? Yes, perhaps the Swiss were a little lucky at times and perhaps some decisions may have gone their way, but then we were unlucky in the first two matches (especially the first). I would call that poetic justice, nothing more , nothing less. I agree with you on the goal...disagree on the penalty.

    Ok then:

    Germany 2:0 Austria

    Croatia 1:1 Poland

Can't see the Germans doing anything silly against the Austrians, should be an easy game actually. Poland I'll fight for what it's worth against a Croatian B team, but I doubt they're able to press on and do what they need to do in this match.

    Proper humpty indeed.

    Matchday 10 Predictions

    Austria 0-2 Germany (2045)

[I'd love to be wrong, really, but I can't bet against them. I also can't make this a sure bet as I think
we know the Austrians will give their all for this one. Give us a few good howlers, Lemon.]

    Poland 1-2 Croatia (2045)

[Never a team to lie down for games. More creativity and more up front than the Poles, I can't see
    much else happening.]

Leader board updated. With yesterday's surprise results there is very little changes in the table with only 3 people gaining any points at all.

Are you serious? If Van Basten puts the B-Team he's a target? well, tomorrow morning you should go shopping, because unless he changes his mind while sleeping (bad dreams about the fans...) thats what is going to happen, but don't hit your tv set...

Regarding Croatia, they played without 9! starting elevens. It's true they played better than us but Poland also played worst than the Swiss...furthermore Croatia didn't saw a clean goal cancelled neither a clear penalty not given. The rest was the same...

About quarter-finals, i think Germany is an issue as they are favourites against us, but let's wait and see...
