You'll get used to it fast.

I had to work indoor construction, and I was totally exhausted at first at the end of every day; but after a couple of weeks, I was back to normal.

    Keep on chooglin'.

Work sucks big time, depending on the job...

Im guessing this is some crappy factory job ? one of your first jobs ?

I have worked one or two different factorys over the years and when you first start it almost feels like your body can't cope with the constant work rate, but aching feet adjust to standing all day, arms adjust to lifting all day...

Discomfort and energy loss should reduce considerably as you get used to working all day, when i was a foot canvesser we would walk all day and at first my feet used to kill but after not to long i started to enjoy the walking and could happily have a game of football after work or something

    quickly put... it gets better....

9 hours a day, 5 days a week? I didn't think that was allowed in the EU.

What kind of work, physical or mental? If it's physical labor, you will probably get used to it. If it's mental, it kind of depends on how satisfying the work is.

Well, there are worse things than working 9 to 5 weekdays. At least you get to bed at a reasonable time, get evenings to yourself and get the weekends off.

During the exams we worked longer hours each day, every day of the week for about a month or two.

Umeu, as charming as ever and so cute now you're all grown up

I always wondered how people could happily go to their meaningless jobs every morning when all they do is make somebody else rich. How many people can honestly say that what they do is important in the big scheme of things?

But I've decided that what's important in your life (your legacy, defining moments, whatever) is likely to be what you do outside of your job. A job will just be the way you sustain yourself while you wait for those important bits.

    If that makes sense.

well im working because i have a goal... im making money to go on a trip... i wanted to go on that trip all my life... so I honestly dont care about the big scheme of things, i only care about my scheme of things... yeah its crappy pay, but i have no better alternatives... besides... are you having part in the big scheme of things when u sit home and do nothing? even less i guess... i agree with your last part though... it goes for most people... if work takes up the most wonderful moments of yur life... eith you are sad, or your life is :P

and yeah, i still love you 2 :D

I'm not getting at anyone. Nor am I suggesting my (jobless) life is any better. I'm just saying that the insignificance of things can be depressing.

    Heh, insignificant?

I work at a fuel station, and not nearly the hours Stranger does but looking at the money going through my hands in just one shift, how people depend on what I sell and how dirty the place would be if I and others didn't clean the place now and then, I'd hardly say it's insignificant. If The Stranger wouldn't clean that grocery store your groceries would end up full of dirt and bacteria, if he didn't carry around boxes there wouldn't be any groceries in the first place etc. Of course his work is significant, insignificant are some decisions at management positions that the employees hardly consider and noone really cares about.

You should be sorry for those rich managers who try to be important and live shallow lifes and still don't get that they cannot appreciate what they have after their fifth wife has left them.

No offence intended toward rich and clever managers.

    9 hours ? 5 days ?

GIMME THE FLYING JOB ! THIS ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT WILL TAKE YOUR VERY OWN JOB AWAY !

9 hours/5 days is a dreamy schedule you'd have in Turkey. Especially if you work in the private sector, life is sucked the **** out of you with "flexible work hours" that never shorten but are guaranteed to go over 12 hours where even your Saturday is demanded. The only way to grant a job that is as BEAUTIFUL as a job that takes only 9 hours a day on a 5-days-a-week run is to get yourself on the state offices' boats.

I understand your pain but, man, you can't guess how it feels when you're waiting next to the AD agency 's car with a flat tyre that was supposed to take you home on a work day that started at 9 a.m. and finished the following day at 4 a.m.

Endure it, grasshopper. Pain is your lifetime friend.

Right about now, while the realization is fresh in your mind, would be a good time to go and give a big hug to Mom and Dad... who've "put up with this" for decades so that they and their beloved son could eat, wear clothes, sleep under a roof, etc.

Bravo! that you've joined the workforce, and come to realize the value of work, and the relative value of money.

Oh, and like the other fellas said: "You'll get used to it." And more. You'll be amazed at your own ability to work even longer, harder hours, when necessary. Farmers and small business owners typically put in 16 hours per day, 7 days a week.

Be happy that you're not doing nightshifts.

Working in the summer vacation really sucks...I'm glad that it's raining constantly over here, serves those non-working slackers right.

Bring with you all a walkman with radio so, if you can hear music from a local station (that you like) and you will pass it a little better. Do something to distract ya. That works with me and my school. When I'm bored and have nothing to do, I write. Everyone is talking, and I'm writing, and I pass my free time in that way (in school).
In this country there aren't part time jobs for teenagers, which is a shame because I want to do something someday.

Thats not a bad schedule. When I had my first "job" I was only working 8 hours a day maybe three or four hours a week. Which isn't bad for being sixteen in a college town, but then the next year I moved down to Colorado with my dad, and that summer my dad hired me on.. I was working 12+ hours a day five days a week doing frame work for Condo's and Apartments and such, I couldn't understand how some people had been doing that type of job for 20 years or more. The money was good, but even if you were in great shape, by the end of the week you were goin' to be tired.

Lol, my last job was 12 hours a day 7 days a week with 1 out of 3 nights on call and being expected to respond even if I wasn't on call.

Nowadays I do my 37 hours a week and no more, I don't do overtime and I definately don't work for nothing. The only reason I work is to buy good stuff whether it's paying the mortgage or buying a new fish tank and as I was promoted in December I can afford most of the things I want.

and I'm sure you had to walk five miles uphill both ways, always in the middle of a January Blizzard, even in July. And You can't understand why people complain!

Lol, no, it was on a cruise ship and I only had to go up 1 deck to get to work and up another 5 to get to the bar, which was 60p for a pint of vodka and coke. There were plus points and I really enjoyed the job, long hours but decent money, comfortable cabin and good perks
