Thread: Headphones/sets`

    Default Headphones/sets`

So in the past 6 months ive gone through about 150$ worth of headsets. And I dont know why, I mean the two expensive ones I got seemed to crap out after about a week, while the cheap 5$ ones have lasted the longest. And it's not that they don't work its that the left or right headphone will stop working. So I wanna know is it just the headphones I buy or do they usually do this and if so is the a way to repair it.

Current headphone is Altec Lansing Stereo Headset AHS515. Now I've only had this since august 22nd so what happened.... Its got a 15 foot cable that i know hasn't been pulled on and I keep them on the back of my chair if they aren't being used.

Previous headphones were Steel Series Professional Gaming Gear Steelsound 3h

I don't play music too loudly Winamp is always at 50 while my mixer is set around 25-40 at any given moment.

Any more information needed just ask, and If I really need to go out and buy a new headset, any recommendations?

I have a Sennheiser pair that is very comfortable; audio is more than acceptable. Not audiophile quality, but if you were flying up into that rare air, I think you would have told us.

After much frustration, I finally found the Plantronics770. They're extremely comfortable- fits over, not on, the ear, so no discomfort for us glasses wearers. I'm no audiophile, but the sound quality is quite good imo and I haven't broken them yet after a year.

Don't be scared by the MSRP in the link, I got mine for around $35- Amazon has them currently for <$50. The only drawback I can think of is that they're big and goofy looking. Very comfortable, just not very stylish- but that really wasn't a consideration for me. They also come with a USB soundcard, which I used once out of curiosity and then put away.

I'm on my second Plantronics right now, mostly use it for the notebook but generally I think Plantronics are very decent.

I too recommend Sennheiser. I tried them two years ago after going through several sets of Plantronics, and am very happy with them.

I've had really bad luck with this model: Logitech 980376-0403 Headphones

I've gone through three pairs now and have made sure to be extra-gentle with the last two. Still, they've died after a short while. It seems every electronics store I go to has this model stocked, even if they have little else in the way of other headphones to choose from.

I did have good luck with this model, though: Logitech 980246-0000 Headphones. They lasted a really long time and took tons of abuse.

Late to the game, but nevertheless here. I bought a pair of Sony MDR-V900's about 5 years ago, and by the gods I love them. They're rather large and bulky, but they're circumaural design so they don't kill my ears, and they can put out some deep, rich sounds. They retailed for $600 new when I got them, managed to find them online for about $250ish. I've also heard many good things about Sennheiser as well. The little Bose headsets were a bit too gimmicky for me, I couldn't "feel" the same sounds as my current headphones, esp. the bass. I'm no audiophile, but could tell the difference. I'm sure if you go with either Sony or Sennheiser, you can't go wrong.

They're selling on Amazon for a mere $70. On Google marketplace they're bottoming out at $127. Not bad if they're kick-ass cans.

Of course, if you are an audiophile, or are audiophile-curious, you might want to look at Grado phones ...

Do you sleep with your earphones on (i.e. in your ear)? I've found that it shortens the lifespan of earphones considerably, as does just stuffing them into your pocket.
