Is that real footage? Looks like it. Anyway never heard of it, odd for a moviemaniac like me
Yes it’s all real. It is a documentary that covers one platoon's experience in country, nothing more and nothing less. There is no preaching, no heavy handed editing to fit a narrative, and no moral judgments made. The movie speaks for itself.
It is out on DVD so you should be able to find it.
Instant buy if I find it. If you like that kind of thing check out 9:11 Zulu, shouldn't be hard to find translated on youtube or google. Some very intense combat footage.

Four Lions. One of the funniest movies I have ever seen! Brilliant stuff.
Scott Pilgrim. Main character is a whiny little brat. Still, it's a funny movie with unique and clever styling, just a pity about the characters.

Black Swan. Damn. I don't know what to say. Damn. I don't want to hype it up, but really, go see it. Oscar worthy acting, a lesbian sex scene, great cinematography, everything you could want. An easy 10/10.

True Grit. Not the kind of movie one would expect me to really like as much as I did; there was only a couple fighting scenes (though they were done very well) and a good bit of talking, which, surprisingly for me, made it a great movie. The actors are very believable, not overdone (perhaps with the exception of Matt Damon's character), and fit well into the story.
I just loooved this movie, i would recommend it to anyone honestly. 10/10
Tron
Eh. It was pretty cool, but the plot was a bit lacking and the pursuit seemed to drag on forever, with respawning vehicles apparently. Still a good movie, I'd give it 6.5/10

Eden Lake, fantastic horror movie that makes a few normal teenagers the scariest thing ever. Couple on a hiking trip gets in a fight with them over something silly, playing music too loud. Dog is accidently killed, and they are hunted down. It's scary because it are normal kids but there's no turning back for them, they have to finish what they started. Everything gets completely out of hand but you never doubt it could happen exactly like it does. Was a random budget-pick but probably my surprise of the year, great movie, 'real' horror a la Deliverance, haunting stuff
There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

The Kings Speech
This was, by far, the best movie Ive seen to date. Even better than True Grit. There was so much power, emotion, and just pure awesomeness in this movie that everyone in the theater gave it a standing ovation when it ended. Really.
As a stutterer myself, I find the movie has deep meaning since many of the struggles which the protagonist faces I face as well. I left the theater inspired and hopeful that people will see this movie and begin to understand how hard life is for us stutterers: something non-stutterers could not even begin to fathom.
I strongly encourage everyone to see this movie.
10/10

Hvil i fred HoreToreA man who casts no shadow has no soul.
Saw a number of John Woo films in the last couple months:
Killer and Hard Boiled are two of his older movies, featuring his signature shooting action scenes - which, even 20 years later, are among the best ever recorded. Chow Yun Fat elevates the films with his acting ability as well. I enjoyed both as satisfying entertainment with more character depth than most action movies.
Red Cliff Parts I and II.
I have one word to describe Red Cliff Part I: long. Lots of fighting, with the heroes fighting off hordes of enemies. Cool at first, but after 20 minutes of fighting throughout the movie it starts to drag. Supplemented by long scenes focusing on characters.
I was wary of Part II because of this, but that film exceeded my reduced expectations. Lots of action still, but it didn't drag. And the character scenes featured plot advancement as well.
I saw two films starring Jeff Bridges in the last week in theaters: Tron and True Grit. I enjoyed True Grit and consider it a very good film.
But while I enjoyed Tron, it didn't match up to the original, which had an original look at a world inside computers populated by programs. This sequel draws back from that for a more generic action-adventure plot set inside the world from Tron. Nice soundtrack, though.

Ja Mata, Tosa.
The poorest man may in his cottage bid defiance to all the forces of the Crown. It may be frail; its roof may shake; the wind may blow through it; the storm may enter; the rain may enter; but the King of England cannot enter – all his force dares not cross the threshold of the ruined tenement! - William Pitt the Elder
My problem with it is that it was too formulaic: "Will he find the courage to overcome his troubles and fears? Find out on this journey of testing times and emotional hurdles!" It was undoubtedly clever, funny and well acted -- Geoffrey Rush and Mr. Darcy... uh.... Colin Firth are brilliant, so are the supporting actors. However, it drags on a little too long, maybe 15-10 minutes. Still, I enjoyed it, so a solid 8/10 (or solid Full Price in Spill.com terms![]()

The Book of Eli. The setting and styling is great. The preachy crap that goes along with it is NOT: "IF NO CHRISTIANITY ALL PEOPLE HAVE NO MORALS!!!!!1111one!!!1!1!!"
What trash.

I watched 'To kill a mockingbird' last night. The first time in over twenty years that I've watched it!
Perhaps it's because of my more senior years that I looked at it through different eyes. What a great movie.
Seen through the perpective of a ten year old girl* it's a provocative, thoughtful and yes, sometimes terrifying flick. A certain Robert Duvall made his movie debut, I wonder what happened to him?
*Perhaps my empathy rating has gone through the roof as my eldest grandkid is eleven this year. Tempus fugit.![]()

Did you see the very end when the bible was placed next to all the other holy books ever thought of?
Or is subtley not one of your strong suits?
The whole point of the movie is the bible is just a book and how it is used is where all of its "power" comes from, it's an allegory for religon and faith as a whole, using the bible just makes it more relateable to the western veiwer
I expect better of you
There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford
My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.
I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.
Strike is right, but it's still a rather dumb movie imho. You just care about what's happening. Watch 'The Road' for proper society-is-screwed drama. Better than the book.
'Simon' remains teh best Dutch movie ever. Wish I could recommended it but most can't be translated to English, has English subtitles though. Incredibly funny and genuinly moving story of the unlikely friendship between a gay dentist, and an Amsterdam drugsdealer who's dying from cancer. After the hilarious first half the more serious second half hits you like a sledgehammer. All Dutchies should watch it 10/10
Saw "The King's speech" yesterday, rather good. It's always nice to see proper actors doing their thang well with goods props and direction. The penultimate scene really is quite moving. The Queen Mo' (Helena Bonham-Carter) is brilliant and Darcy does a good job too, not to mention Geoffrey Rush. Churchill's a bit hammy I felt but probably hard to do naturaly.
I'd say 4 stars.
Exit Through the Gift Shop. Quirky, genius, intriguing. A lot of fun.
By the end I wasn't paying attention to anything other than Mila Kunis, so I probably missed it, and everything else in this movie. Like I said, I like the styling and the plot twist and Mila Kunis. Didn't care for everything else in between regardless of whatever it was trying to say, because to me it came across as preachy and pro-religion = yawn.

seeing as 99% of books would be burned as kindling/been destroyed by the nuclear war (or some sort of nuclear apocalypse, since it is never explicitly stated what happened), it's not that surprising that books would be rare. true, such a widely printed book would probably have more copies around, but its not a huge stretch. I don't think people would be rummaging through like city libraries/churches and taking bibles to give out.

Freedomland, not a thousand Samual L Jacksons can safe this movie. Terribly overacted and the dialogue is so ubelievably dumb, people don't talk and react like that. It wants to be a good movie and it's really really bad. My nomination for worst movie I have seen for years

Tron Legacy. It seemed ... disjointed, lots of gaps. Probably because I fell asleep several times. I do recall the effects were cool. Particularly the cycles. But I'll have to see it again sometime to fill in the story.
I'd been up all night but had promised this gal a movie and meal out, so I went anyway. She had fun, which was the whole point. I had fun too, just of the sleepy kind.

I agree with you on Tron Legacy. It was nowhere near as good as the original, yet somehow a friend of mine insists that this one was better than the first.

The Crow. Holy hell, that's a very good movie. The methods of revenge are wicked, wicked, wicked. Possible inspiration for Heath Ledger's Joker too.
