    Default Wow...

I remember checking the EBII section out about 2 years ago and casually dismissing the whole thing, as casually as those people who said "Powered flight? Poppycock!". Now I come back and it looks almost complete, and the previews look astounding, the whole thing looks epic. I didn't want to have to buy M2TW because RTW (Vanilla) was so crap that it was a step back from Medieval, and its expansion was pants, but now it looks like I'll bloody well have to buy it, doesn't it. Thanks a lot.
EBII has finally released. All hail the EBII team!

I was putting off buying M2TW until I found it for $10 at an epic sale! But inbetween you can always try M2TW mods to get yourself primed for EBII!

That would, of course, assume you're interested in playing any variation on M2TW. Personally, I'm not. I don't care about the medieval period of history, and few of the other mods will likely have touched the various annoyances of CA's work in any serious depth.
It began on seven hills - an EB 1.1 Romani AAR with historical house-rules (now ceased)
Heirs to Lysimachos - an EB 1.1 Epeiros-as-Pergamon AAR with semi-historical houserules (now ceased)
    Philetairos' Gift - a second EB 1.1 Epeiros-as-Pergamon AAR

I would like a Medieval game that was as accurate and well balanced as EB is... there's some very fascinating periods from that time, especially around the Byzantine empire, but M2TW does a terrible job at portraying the brutality and darkness of the period. The Original was much better, but is very aged now. Hard to play when you've experienced EB.

I haven't tried Deus Lo Volt or Broken Crescent for M2TW:Kingdoms, but I hear those are both heavy on the realism.

Broken Crescent is great, very well made mod. tho my personal favorite is Rusichi total war, it may be a bit limited in terms of playable factions and I'm not sure to what extent it's historically accurate but it's good fun nonetheless^^.
third age total war is not bad as well, tho some of the "don't be lame" scripts really are annoying and drove me to quit playing it.

All in all when your local game vendor sells has it on the low budget shelf(+Kingdoms offcource) it's safe to buy it, alone for the mods made for it.

PS even the Xpack has some very fun campaigns. imho.

I'm a fan of DLV, Stainless Steel, BC and Chivalry II for M2TW mods. Good distraction from studies!

Guess I should have specified in my gloating, it was M2TW and Kingdoms for $10

Doesn't beat Subotan's free price though *sigh*

Yes DotS looks to be a very promising mod as well. I was also kinda looking forward to All under Heaven, though it looks like it may never be completed. Shame.

Well, I think you would be very suprised by quite how good and varied some of those "other mods" are. Granted, if you are only interested in the ancient mediterannean, then they might not get you as excited as EB, but the work of those modders has turned MII from a poor start to one of the better war games around. If you enjoy EB and would occassionally like to experience a different setting, I would strongly recommend that you give some of the MII mods a go.
