I think the real question is whether you made it clear to Red that you intended to continue pursuing a relationship with her, which you left rather vague in the OP.

I'm guessing he also left is vague to Red as well. Unfortunately for him and Red (but mainly Red), this is one of this situations when silence indicates approval, and that a specific denial would have been required on PI's behalf. However, this is all based on the assumption that PI was always intending to dump Red, rather than simply trying to desperately hedge his bets and hook up with Green on the sly.
