You can actually fight among the Hanging Gardens on the campaign map. You have to be attacked while besieging Babylon. They REALLY screw with the AI's pathfinding, but not as bad as the what the pyramids do to Memphis.

On topic again, I've let the wonders stand in spite of their values. Once, I was playing as KH and wanted to melt down the Colossus of Rhodes and sell off the Acropolis to compensate for their lousy starting position. But I decided against it. But I did wonder if I really was recieving any bonuses. Too bad it's hard to find how much you really get from them.
