Yes.
Why is this always such a concern with every new game that comes out?
What difference does it make if you have to put the disc in or not? Not trying to get nasty, just saying - I've never understood this concern.
Yep, you definitely can. It's the same withh all Steam games.
@ ArtillerySmoke
It has advantages, especially if you are playing the game on a laptop. It also reduces wear and tear on the disc and keeps it in good condition.

Yeah it's awesome! ^^ Go Steam!

not only that, i play BF2142 a lot, and that needs a disk to play, and as a laptop gamer it is very helpful to not have to use the disk b/c it also means less for me to carry around.
glad to hear that CA took the hint from Relic and EA, who, AFAIK, were the ones who pioneered the disk-less gaming industry.

Another great point that I had never thought about (if you're traveling on a laptop, right - who wants to worry about the disc?).
I've never gamed on a laptop. I have always used a tower desktop...you know, the kind of machine that's not going to be moved ever lol.
If I run into some money in the next several months, I'll upgrade my PC and buy a medium grade gaming laptop for on the go. Now that you mention it, I can definitely see myself making threads about "disc needed?" in the future.
You should learn something every day, right?

indeed you do.
about gaming laptops, while they arent as good as tower PCs, they do beat them in one aspect: mobility. (duh)
i can play BF2142, crysis, RTW, EB, company of heroes, and a few other games wherever i want- at school (hehehe...), at my desk, in my living room, a friends house wherever.
now, ill ask you tower-pc gamers- can you do that?

That's what has me almost giddy at the thought. I often have to take a bus or train from my suburban New York town all the way down into mid-town Manhattan.
I can only imagine how great it would be to sit in the back and look over my campaign map, while I wait for my stop (the last on my route. I'm a good 45-50 miles from the city). Would brighten up what is an otherwise, horribly boring event.
Who knows, I may even start loving traffic
edit: Come to think of it, as I haven't but should have considering the time period of Empire, 3 of Washington's encampments are within 30 minutes of me and West Point is 35 minutes from me. There's a route called 218 and another called Route 9 which have huge rock bunkers and, in the woods, some very old remnants of forts.

That was my favorite childhood summer vacation spot, and my favorite site was Bloody Pond (I was in awe of it as early as 4 years old). You can still to this day, find bullets laying around the site and shrapnel, as well as blood stains on many of the trees. Honestly. It's an overwhelming sight.

the only thing you have to worry about in those high-spec games like crysis is the heat. for that i just got realTemp, which monitors my heat and warns me with a REALLY ANNOYING alarm when i get within 10 degrees of over-heating.
but my philosophy is that if i can play crysis for 2.5 hours and no over-heating and no annoying warning alarm, i shouldnt need to worry about ETW overheating my laptop.
or i could just blow off $30 on a decent cooling pad.

speaking of interrupted battles, the reason why i cant really play ETW at school unless i have consecutive study halls is that most battles last at least 45 minutes depending on the battle while in my school class periods are 45 minutes long. so im in a bit of a quandary.
i wish there was a save option for battles.

It's a concern with me because i have around 25 games installed, and although i only play 3 of them regularly, i do still play the other 22 from time to time, and when i have to have a disk for all 25 of them there's always 2 or 3 disks that get lost, it's inevitable, it always happens.
Luckily for me, the 3 games i play are Empire, World of Warcrack and Mount&Blade, none of which require a CD, so no need to stand up, look for CD, take old one out, put it in box, put new one in, sit back down.
For most of the other 25 i've downloaded no-cd cracks, even though i have the full games, but there are still a few i have to have the CD for, and the CD's still get lost.
That's why.
I used to play WoW...but at this point, I just can't anymore. I started playing at launch and the way the game has changed over the years does not appeal to me in the slightest.
I was a heavy raider Pre BC though. Great game. Vanilla WoW is the best online game ever made imo.

Since i had a Diablo 2 CD break inside my CD-drive, i always try to have a No CD executable.
I always buy my games, and i hate having to do something slightly illegal in order to preserve what i bought.
