Ok,anyone care to remind me how the affair thing started?

well I assume it started in the bedroom. I mean that is where most people do their dastardly deeds.
Unless you mean how it started OOC, then it’s because Sextvs (not me) has the casual adultery trait. one day I walk in and find a story saying somebody’s sleeping with my wife and so I responded accordingly, it all kind of started from there, me and Iskander even have a couple of stories on hold until the Legio I gets a new commander. In fact, I think I am going to write another one now!

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
yeah well remember that first we need provinces, then we can decide how many legions we need.
I suggested 4 provinces.
Let's say we elect 2 consuls and 1 praetor.
The CoF must be in Roma
The CoL cna chose a theatre of war (most likely greece, which means one provicne less to be governed by a PG)
Which leaves 3 provinces.
Maybe we should consider for the first time we send off the praetor to govern aswel
that means we only have to elect in the curia 2 PG's
I was just looking at the save and I have to say, Emporion is calling to me.... 3 unit garrison, ohh its tempting. anyone think I could take it with just my bodygaurd?. when Legio I gets a new comander I am definatly going to propose he take that city.

Yeah, pretty much what Drizzt said. We've been collaborating by PM, so don't think that we have anything against each other OOC.

Strikeout!
Along with all these reforms I suggest we quickly take Sicilia so that we can have Polybian units to fully round out our political and military transformation. We must have at least two cities on the island before the next congressional council.
EDIT: Also, I've been out for the past 3-4 days, have the rules, library, and legion assignments all been updated, or are we waiting for the next session to finalize everything?

don't worry, it's just another year. until Cicero's governorship is over; and Legio I would be vulnerable to the senate's decisions.
@ mini, your Curia-Post:
Lending money, seconded.
But explain the discharging of Legio II further. Do mean with that effective discharging forever or discharging the old soldiers and recruiting new ones for Legio II with the money we lent?

Well
I interpret the edict for discharging the legion as follows:
Legion moves to a city. All units get disbanded = legion discharged.
Normally we then would recruit an entire new Legio II following the new rules concerning composition.
But since we're low on cash, it might prove profitable that we delay recruiting the new men for Legio II a few turns..
If we totally disband the legion, and then wait a few turns... = a few turns where our income is significant higher than it is now (due to less upkeep for an entire legion)
The profit we make durign these few turns, will be enough to repay our 'loan' and recruit a new Legio II following the new composition.
in short:
1) Disband now + build barracks for expedites.
If we do not have enough money to start building, we calculate how much money we are short, and add this by using console add_money. This will be the loan
3) the remaining turns until the next session, we reap the extra profit caused by the big cut in upkeep costs now we have one (or two) legions less to pay for
4) After a few turns, it will be congressional session. We use the profit made in the previous turns to repay our loan and to recruit one (or two) new legions.

Can you please compile a plan including what happens at what time, meaning:
Summer 200 BC -Lending "amount" Mnai from "whereever"
Summer 200 BC - disbanding Legio II
Fall 200 BC - payback Legio II
Spring 199 BC - recruiting new Legio II concluded
Lvcvllvs unfortunately does not trust expressions like "a few" "after that" "soon" and "later" anymore. ;-)

Many thanks to Hooahguy for this great sig.
This turn: disband Legio II (and perhaps Legio I?) + start building the barracks necessary for expedites in atleast 1 city.
Turn of the next congressional session: payback an eventual loan + recruit the new legion(s)
All turns in between are for profit.
Please note that a loan is only necessary, if we can't pay the cost of a barrack this turn.
madness! just to get the pedites? surely we can replace them for now; all this 'historical accuracy' requirements changing the game is very troublesome.disband Legio II (and perhaps Legio I?)
I shall come up with a better alternative/argument later because my computer's wireless network detector is screwing up, making it difficult to load pages and also I'm busy with homework as I procrastinated the whole afternoon

disbanding the legion is not for the expedites?
It is somethign which has bene decided last session: the men of Legio II must be discharged.
By discharging, I understand that we fully disband the legion, after which we wil lrecruit a whole new legion
All I am saying is: if we delay the re-recruitment, we get a much-needed buffer into the treasury.
The whole barraks-for-expedites thing is actually something I use waiste my time on :)
Since my character pushed the reforms through, he wants everythign to be in order, and without the required barracks, we cannot form a legion like the law demands. Which is why he tries to stirr enough motion in the senate to get things fixed. He wouldn't like to see others meddle with his laws because the higher officials in charge weren't able to provide all requirements for execution of his laws ;)
I wouldn't want to disband the whole legion, only the necessary units (since we're "upgrading" them); anyway, the whole point of mega pbm games, is to tell a story; and we're not very much telling a story by waiting for our troops to be retrained/resupplied and moving units around. stuff like this may take up to multiple congressional sessions. but if this wouldn't happen again (other than polybian/marians), I wouldn't make a fuss of it.
come to think of it, those triarii which I spent so much money recruiting is going to go to waste. damn edict 5.3!
It doesn't need to take up any sessions if u ask me?
If we all agree that makign some extra dinari is a good thing, we can just agree to disband the legion now and just delay replacing them.
We don't need any edicts or anything for that :)
Neither do we need any sessions for the whole loan-thing..
If we agree, the CoF can order the building to start and fix the loan (mind: ONLY if we dont have enough money)
IN THEORY : my reforms do foresee something called quick-votes. Since they passed last session, we could make use of it, right?
These are the kind of things that would suit quick-voting :)
PS: it was said the legion has to be discharged. Which means the whole legion must be disbanded. That's how I read it anyway. Otherwise it would have stated: a few units, or which units..

you have forgot,
since this part is untouched by your rule changes, it is presumably still in place; we can't disband a whole legion; even if you call it "decommissioning", it may have units disbanded and replaced though; for example the damned edict 5.3.Standard Legions can be disbanded only during the Congressional Session by the Senate through an Edict

Check this post
Legio II is to be discharged by order of the GM because they have served 10 years.
Which I take as a discharge of the whole legion.
If this isn't what navarro meant, he will inform us soon enough.
Besides we're not disbanding the legion.. We're just disbandign all it's current units to replace them with raw recruits.
That rule you quote I think, is that no legion may be erased from existense without an edict.
Besides, the order comes from Navarro, it wasn't my idea :)
I am just proposing that we do not immediately recruit new units, instead delay a bit so we have a few turns extra income.
It isnt long to the next session anyway, so we're not talking bout 10 turns here..

well, in the new legion, there will also be hastati , triarii etc., so it would be senseless to disband them and recruit new ones.

Hey! Stop pissing on my beloved Edict 5.3! It was AWESOME, and the majority agreed!
Personally I want our legions (that is, the whole legions) to be disbanded regularly. That way we don't get any über-experienced armies that are just boringly overpowered.
As long as you make it "add_money -xxxx*1.1", I'm okay with it. (Of course, the cheat wouldn't look like that, but that's not how I mean it, of course.) This may very well be what you meant anyway, I just want this to be clear.Originally Posted by mini

I presume you meant to post this here instead of the Curia, now let me quote the gamemaster.Legio II is to be discharged by order of the GM because they have served 10 years.
Which I take as a discharge of the whole legion.
If this isn't what navarro meant, he will inform us soon enough.

That rule you quote I think, is that no legion may be erased from existense without an edict. Which is not what I am proposing here..
"order of leave" does not necessarily mean "discharge". damn. I have an urgent need to swear from arguing with you on the interpretations of the rules. bah!Legio II Latium: Orders are to capture the city of Ambrakia, wait to establish a garrison there, and return home (OOC: Any Italia province.) for an order of leave. After which, a change of command will be proclaimed.
edit:! I am 3 posts too late

Like I said, let's just have Navarro clarify his intentions :)
Like TCV said: I'd like to disband legions from time to time to prevent too experienced armies.
(note: by disbanding I mean that all units must be disbanded and replaced by raw recruits, NOT the abolishing of the legion permanently)
Reasons:
1) gameplay: too experienced armies widen the gap between players and AI. AI is already stupid enough, let's not fight them with endless stacks of double silver chevrons
2) realism: soldiers age and cannot find their entire life. Besides, they must return to their farms and breed sons for the armies of the enxt generation.
3) historical accuracy: Rome didn't have actual standing armies until Augustus. Which is why I tried limiting creation of legions by tying them to the need of each province.
4) another gameplay reason: In the later game, it will be a nice drain on our treasury (we'll be rich as croesus anyway) and offers some nice logistical problems. It also slows expansion by a slight bit once in a while :)

never mind, I'm just swearing to myself. stupid schoolwork and stuff. dammit. preventing me from playing any EB.!!!!!!

Many thanks to Hooahguy for this great sig.
it's not swearing, it's flowering.
and my SOT post is now long enough to be shared between you and bean for eating.
navarro.. How many turns to next session?
Maybe we shouldn't elect a commander for the Legio V, as with the new ranks kicking in soon, the poor guy will loose his command pretty soon anyway..
And about legio II, are they just on vacation, or do you wish to discharge them?
