Nonsense! You really do underestimate your importance, Papewaio!

The mods are needed to build the foundation, after that's done, everything will go smoothly. Just look at any chaotic forum; none of them have anything even remotely connected to proper mods. Yes, after the foundation is built, things will go smoothly and we'll hardly notice you guys, except when you're pitching in your ideas in threads. But to say you're anything less important because of that is nonsense.

What's really fun though, is watching established media do one epic fail after the other when it comes to internet forums. I have yet to find a single one worth anything. Heck, there was even debate(in TV, papers, etc) after some neo-nazi was banned from Dagbladet's(our second largest national newspaper) forum, after some "rather interesting" debating techniques... It's alarming that the largest providers of free speech(the media) are complete retards when it comes to tackling free speech on the internet. Some people think that everyone getting the same "airtime" is what free speech means. Which is nonsense, all that leads to is chaos and anarchy. Free speech on the internet means that if you use your manners and actually think things over before and during your posting, you're free to post your opinion, whatever that may be. Free speech requires some degree of effort from the speaker.
Still maintain that crying on the pitch should warrant a 3 match ban

I think we've threaded a slippery path, Fragony. What works as humour for us, will inevitably go wrong. Better leave it.

But it's satire, they must understand it, it isn't all just vodka and potatoes you know.

I loves me a satirical bashfest. Oh bummer, you know I can't resist:

So a Welshman goes to America, has to spend the night: Sheepless in Seatlle.

Unmoderated forums can work, as long as there is a good signal to noise ratio, and as long as effective filtering capabilities are available. Most good usenet newsgroups have a significant body of experienced and/or knowledgable posters, who know how the group works, and actively keep their group on-topic. Most decent newsreaders also have killfiles and scorefiles with which to filter out the noise, which can be configured to the user's taste. Whatever vBulletin may offer, it unfortunately doesn't offer the latter. I've been wondering whether web forums will ever agree on a common protocol a la NNTP, so that forumreaders can be developed that can read the forum's content, but present it to the user in the user's preferred form.
