Honestly, all this media coverage turned me mad. Whenever I turn the TV on to watch the news, I get at least 10 mins of MJ. And it's been like that for the past 3 weeks.

What the hell? Is that journalism? Brainwashing people with such non-events?

Today was the crowning moment. A bunch of vulgar, unimportant, disguting people making crazy and/or stupid speech, more often than not with a pseudo religious message (funny given that the Jackson are a bunch of weirdos). While these idiots are preaching, you can listen to a few french unknown dudes who met MJ a few times and feel entitled to comment what's going on. As if we cared about no-names and their opinions.

Once again, what the hell? What kind of TV channel does invite some barely heard of guy who keeps repeating 'This is soooo touching...I'm going to cry', just because he met Michael Jackson 4 times? Is that how deep we are? It's almost as bad as the crowd of 'fans' who had been crying for weeks by now.

As a result, I feel like slapping a whole lot of people for their obvious lack of dignity and intelligence. The simple fact of seeing a picture of MJ turns me into Hulk and makes me want to throw the screen though the window.

What I detest in all of this is the insinuated imperative that we must think of him as The King of Pop and a world altering entertainer. They're trying to make him look like a deity and it's sick.

This is very close to what a good friend of mine mentioned at work to me this afternoon. He was watching some of the coverage and mentioned that he couldn't stand it any more when they started getting to the point where it was all but suggested he be up for sainthood.

The man had some real damn good talent. His early music was excellent. Sadly he lead a very troubled life and ended up in some very, very bad situations. After reading and hearing things several times I remain completely undecided if he did actually molest those children. I don't remember who said it, might have been our dearest Louis the Chunky, but he did need to go out with a "bang", and that he certainly did.

    I laughed at that, Drone.

Obviously, I haven't seen any of MJ's funeral services on the television today. Well beneath a man of my position and intellectual pursuits.
Instead, as you are all aware, a man like me relies on computer games sites for his celeb gossip.

After two weeks of MJ mania, all I can say is that I think his music, in retrospect, is rather cool indeed. There's no denying he was talented as an artist and entertainer. As for MJ the person, I'm so bored of it. He's not all that fascinating. Abnormal childhood, some peculiar diseases, too much 'medication', and a love for little boys gone awry. Meh.

I think HoreTore is on the mark. MJ needed more sane people around him. Too many people who fell for the Hollywood trap, who hovered around him like flies on a pile of fresh manure, indulged him. Just so his fame would reflect on them. 'Friends' and, more uncommon for a man in his position, family as well.
I know you can sit down with Springsteen and have a beer with him. And one can sit down with Keith Richards and have a shot of heroine together. Not so with MJ. 'Yo, Mike - listen buddy, wanna come over for a few beers and some pool at the local bar?' - that just didn't happen. Tragic.

I've seen this one around in places before and I gotta admit, it is the best one.

Watched parts of the memorial, I liked the Jermaine Jackson performance the best. Al Sharpton's speech was actually pretty good too, I especially liked the address to the kids.

I'll turn the coverage thing on a different tilt: thank you media for covering this story a lot, you got this guy to watch your news programs and read your articles a lot more than he would. Enjoy the ratings boost.

    RIP MJ

Thus it was that a thousand zombies of Left 4 dead cried out in terror, before being suddenly silenced.

Apparently it is getting to the point where sites are beginning to run news coverage about the news coverage. Which, i have to say, is pretty bad.

Well, I was sick of the coverage on day 1 and am still sick of it now. I had the misfortune of watching some Wolf Blitzer while at the gym.... wall to wall Jackson. I must have seen the disgusting clip of them exploiting his daughter's sorrow at least five times in a half hour.

Understand, I don't mean this in an offensive way- but I just don't care that he's dead. It makes no difference to my life. Sure, it's worth noting his passing, but this obsessive coverage is nauseating.

For the last few weeks, I've fast-forwarded, changed channels, and yes, even turned off the radio/TV when the MJ segments came on. I truly hope that now with the memorial over, we can finally drop it.

It's so tempting just to cancel cable. I've been getting by with heavy DVR use and a hope that we'll one day get ala carte channel subscriptions... but times like this really make me wonder if I'd be better off without any of it.

I find it funny that 20 minutes after the story broke thriller was played in rememberance. That surely has to be the first time a person's death has been commemorated by showing them as a dancing zombie.

You don't have a tradition for state funerals over there? He would certainly be given one if he was Norwegian....

Let's face the facts here; Michael Jackson, love him or hate him, was mentally ill. He needed help, but the people and society around him(especially the doctors) only made things worse for him.

While I have nothing against yelling at plain evil people, I draw the line at the mentally ill. They need help, not ridicule.

I would love to see some formal investigation by an ethics board on the doctors who operated him, and some political action against a system who allows such things.

EDIT: Syd Barrett, who ended up like he did because of his own actions, ie. all that acid, got help and peace. Michael Jackson, who hasn't done anything, get's ridicule, hate and degradation. Have a happy thread, people.

I see people here complaining about the excessive coverage Jackson's death has. Yet this thread is at the top and the Iranian Election is over 10 threads below this.

How about we conduct ourselves better then the media by not even contributing this thread anymore, lock it and provide more interesting insights and fresh perspectives in the Iranian thread instead?

I was thinking of making the same comment, but it just seemed far too ironic that in complaining about it I would be contributing to it.

Michael J was obviously in need of psychological help for over 20 years. If he was poor in the UK he'd probably have at least had some couselling to help him, and possibly things would have turned out different.

Sadly he was rich in the USA.

So, he had a string of mercenary surgeons chop him up (13 ops wasn't it?)
A Dermatologist to depigment his skin (or is he the only person alive to get the disease that makes him white after he's had surgery to look white? )
And a small legion of barely legal drug dealers to get him increasingly addicted to things not often used except in palliative care.

After the poor man is dead after one too many shots of IV pethidine(!) suddenly out of the woodwork we have a legion of "friends" and "family".

Apparently they didn't notice anything that was wrong over the last 20 years, and between this army of people who are so utterly distressed at his death, failed to either stop him, get him committed.

I'd not mind the rest of the activities as they are clearly a way to maximise money. It's the crocodile tears that really stick in my throat.

Any thoughts about Rep King's comments regarding Jackson?
I'm inclined to agree with his viewpoint actually. This Jackson thing is blown way out of proportion.

I'm with rory on this one. The vultures circling around MJ's dead body, trying to gain something from his dead, are disgusting.

It was crystal clear that the man needed help, yet none of his so called "friends" or family stuck out their neck to help him. But now that the man has died, they are all there. Bunch of hypocrites.

He made great music and I was one of the many who had a lot of fun imitating him as a kid.

He was a great artist and perfomer, but they should let him rest in peace, now.

    You're always reliable DD.

I really don't care if he's dead, he meant nothing to me alive and he means nothing dead, one less tamperer is always a good thing. I'm not watching the media coverage as there's only so much hypocrasy I can take.

As a human being, I feel sorry for him and his tortured life. As a public character, I will miss him. He was an unintentional clown; a tragic jester whose every action represented the detestation of fame and the monsters it creates. I lament the loss of a source of humor.

How do you know time it is as MJ's house?
