Thanks again for all the replies, I've gone with H/M for my campaign. We'll see how it goes.
H/M is challenging. I personally like M/M as it hasn't the AI go after you all the time.

Really? I've played a few campaigns with Casse, with both rtw.exe and alx.exe on VH/H, and in my current one, VH/M, and haven't found the eleutheroi to be too much of a problem, as long as you keep an eye out for the rogue half-stacks.Originally Posted by tls5669
I think i'd agree with Maion on the VH battle front; I can't see it being realistic (unless you're freaking insane at battles), and trying VH/VH, It tends to get boring as the inevitable beginning eleutheroi settlements you have to take over become crazy hard and wear down your few wavering troops which you can hardly afford. For barbarian factions it makes the game incredibly boring for the first few years.
VH/M. Any lower and the game gets way too easy- the major downside is diplomacy, but FD helps here. (Though I try to avoid using it too much).
If I'm playing as a really easy faction like Romani or Carthage I sometimes bump it up to VH/H.
Completed campaigns:
Vanilla Carthage
BI Sassanids
EB 1.1 Casse

I've been playing the romans on m/m and from what you guys have been writing i must be dumber with money than the AI.
I can afford to have one full army and a ship if i seriously cut back on my building and an extra 3/4 stack army if i stop building all together.I've been fighting carthage and they just keep spamming a full stack army or two every few turns.I've been winning the war but i can't afford to keep churning out,or rebuilding, units at the rate they do and they refuse to make peace.
I just figured with as tight as money is in the early game it was better to adopt a southern expansion policy to get some money provinces.
The one thing i have learned though is not to auto-resolve sieges against them.I had hamilicar bottled up in a city with three depleted units and a full army sieging i was getting so tired of all the siege battles so i hit auto. The game decided that his handful of men almost completely wiped out my legion.
In those cases, open up the command console (press ~) and type in auto_win attacker if you are the attacker (which is also the case if you sally during a seige) or auto_win defender. Type that in right before hitting the auto-resolve button. I wouldn't abuse it though; just use it for those cases in which you're positive that you would win if you manually fought the battle.
I play VH/M and honestly I've heard all kinds of stories ever since Vanilla RTW (which I still played VH on) about full stacks coming out of nowhere, elites all over the place and other ridiculous occurrences in the AI's favor. Now, either all these people are exaggerating a bit, or there's something wrong with my game, but I do not get stacks of elites, I don't get ridiculous amounts of stacks. Sure maybe I blitz a bit more than the average RPer but it isn't like I cripple factions left and right. In a way it is almost easy
Remember RPers set many own house rules to play, restricting themselve with this and that. Not just limiting to blitz the enemies. If your enemies send continuous stacks with money boost every turn, the player needs to react and ruin the roleplay as historically/realistic as possible.
Most RPers I think are all bored with just winning battles and conquering regions. I am one of them.
