Yeah, every client ruler will count in the total number of family members allowed. If you have tons of recruited generals, you will have less births in your royal family.

Like 5 adopted ones yeah. It was the the two Gaul factions that kept killing all the actual royal members (and maybe 2 by the Luso).

I took over Spain first after taking all of Italy and Sicily like a few weeks ago so I don't remember off the top of my head.

(I wanted to keep Luso alive from Carthage but they ended up betraying me and I had to kill 3 stacks of Luso with a few weakened moderately experienced stacks.)

If you massacred your client rulers and made as many settlements as possible lvl3 or lower you might still be able to save your game?

I don't think this is entirely true considering in my Casse campiagn I have 3 settlements, 2 client rulers, and 6 family members...do you have any proof for this? It interests me

Also, if a faction hordes they gain a set amount of family members although they would not possess any settlements. Therefore, a hordeing faction also negates this.

Or it could just be BI.exe, since that is what I use..

If you have none or very few settlements, you will have more family members than settlements. That 1:1 ratio only really takes effect if you have somewhere around more than five settlements.

Makes sense. Honestly though I can account for a few games where I've had too many family members/client rulers instead of a shortage so the percent chance must just drop instead of becoming null, am I correct?

In other words you can still have kids even if there is a 20:1 ratio of family to settlements but the odds are very low?

No... your problem si soo pitiful, and maybe you must consider adopt some good Hellenes to fill your royal family...

But I do have a serious suggestion for you...

If u don't want an adoptee, and your FH have less than 4 child, sit him on a nice medium city, but not too large, so every turns he will occupied with overseeing strucrural construction... In my game, for somewhat reasons, a governor with busy construction schedules usually got child... (maybe they get bored by those carpenters and masons, that only place some wood and stones with niosy sounds (Thuck tuck tack tack bang slam!), so they start seeing their wives?)
