Thread: RTI is un-winnable

    Exclamation RTI is un-winnable

I don't know who else is having this problem but when I play RTI Chapter 2 the French spam full stacks and I'm unable to match them. They can field 12 full stacks to my 2 (AI and their money cheats).

Not surprisingly, I can't win the mission. Is there any way around this?

you mean the french and indian war part? I had trouble with that my first go too. heres what I found:

    1. It is not fun at all. unfortunately, they made it a bit too much like the real thing, and have you going after forts and masses of indians and french, but don't give you any bonuses upon capturing the forts (each side wanted control of the Ohio valley so their merchants and trappers could pass through)

just spam masses of line infantry and auto resolve, in about half an hour youll get through that hell-hole.

But I can't afford to do that. They have at least 3 full stacks at each path across the river to the target cities and one more in the city. I think I'll have to start over.

Yep, I found that because it's a tutorial version, my armies could win nearly 90% of autoresolved battles against enemy full-stacks, and only lost when they were really depleted. In one battle outside Montreal Washington wound up dying, so I just took 3 or 4 turns to build up a new full stack, sent it after them, and won.

EDIT: Also, use your navy to navigate the St. Lawrence River. That defeats the need for crossing points.

I forgot to say in addition to their full stacks they also have a large navy and it sunk mine. I'm going to restart and hope I can do better with blitzing.

It really is a hard section. I ended up winning by doing suicide assaults against cities, capturing them, getting the achievement, and then continuing on.

yeah, the best way is to really just blitz the hell out of the objective cities, and leave them mostly ungarrisoned.

Wow. What did you set as a difficulty level? I didn't have remotely that much to face, and that's with 1.3.1.
I have a mind like a steel sieve.

I didn't even have a choice of what difficulty I wanted. I restarted adn this time I won.
This should go into a RTI guide:

With Chapter 2 you should (Assuming George Washington always has a full stack):

Step 1: Blitz all the French settlements - Niagra first
Step 2: Build a full stack in Niagra and a half stackin the settlement across from Quebec after you have taken it
Step 3: Mop up the remaining French
Step 4: Walk to Louisburg (Acadia) with George Washington
Step 5: Defeat the army but don't take the settlement yet or only take it when you are ready to attack the French
Step 6: Get a navy up to Louisburg and now take it with George Washington
Step 7: Take Montreal with your sull stack in Niagra and ship George Washington over to Quebec and conquer it

    And that's how I won.

that is why i did it ASAP. the RTI campaign in 1.0.1 was far easier than now. and after the first time i tried to play it like a sensible person, i decided to use the same tactics of the russians in WWII: spam crappy troops with a few experienced guys, then mob the enemy. best. strategy. ever (against indians)

No no, you've got it wrong, you can't win because of the advanced AI*!!!

    * Note - in the absence of said intelligent AI, many army stacks will be substituted instead.

I had a hard time with this one too, but there's kind of a cheesy way to win. The map is pretty small in the beginning, and then opens up a little more for the final objectives (capture those two region). What you want to do is capture as many regions as possible early on. The first two objectives of that level, the map is smaller. After completing those objectives, the map gets bigger. Then, the French end up having 3 regions and infinite money to keep making full stacks. What you actually want to do is conquer everything inland and destroy all French troops. Then build up two full stacks across the river. These two stacks will be used to take the 2 French regions that are revealed later on. Finally, take the French region on the peninsula (nova scotia?) with the smallest army possible. This completes the next objective, and the map gets bigger. You have two full stacks ready to take out the 2 French regions that appear. Keep your two stacks together for the extra reinforcements. There's a fort you have to capture and the two regions, all of which have full stacks guarding them.
