An alternate Political Compass

While the Political Compass stickied is convinient, it also asks a lot of weird questions (Such as if you thought beating up your kids is a good decision). Which doesn't really have much to do with politics, in my opinion.

I just found this political compass which is, while much more simplified, its questions have more pertinence from a political point of view. After you take the test, besides giving your place in their political compass, it also gives you which system and ideology do you support, and this test got it spot on. It also lists the recent American presidents and recent American presidential candidates that match the most with your position in the political compass. Finally, it compares your score with everybody else who has taken the test, and tells you your position compared to the rest.

I resent the 'socialism'.

I thought several questions didn't really have an applicable answer. Which may account for the party : no match. In particular, I wished that instead of 'none of the above', there would've been the option 'all of the above'.

I love how the test came up with 'Jimmy Carter'. As a matter of fact, I am indeed that other person that together with his mum thought he was a great president.

I had never heard of David Cobb before. I googled him. He's the green party candidate. Meh. But then he hails from Texas, so he's okay with me.

Wow. I don't know about this. I don't consider myself a liberal, nor a conservative either, but definitely not a democrat. I know almost nothing about Lyndon Johnson. The 04 and 08 votes were indeed what I voted, but it was more because I hate(d) Bush and what he was doing to the US than liking the other candidates, and McCain was a bit too nutty for me.

I'm not a socialist of any sort. I am centrist-right. MoDem to be exact. I think I'd be pretty mainstream Democrat in the US, neither the looney left nor tempted much to occasionaly swing to the GOP, so I was surprised the test twice couldn't link me with a party (I presume the test is American).
Sarkozy, Obama and Barroso suit me just fine - all three are pretty right wing without any trace of
(hyphenated) socialism.

Bollox. I am indignant over being called a Republican. I wish not to be tainted with that party of ignorance, intolerance, religious zealotry, and like evils. This test has a clear American slant, not surprising either, but it does make it restrictive. I for instance, am a strong atheist, and no Republican can admit that and still advance his career.

Not to mention, 12% are more authoritarian? Doubleplusbad bollox. This is a better test, more complex and longer too:

Generally, the longer the quiz, the better. Especially if the questions are divided into three categories: how much power you think should be given to the government, what is your social stance, and what is your fiscal/purely political stance.

I disagree, strongly. Conservative libertarians or libertarian conservatives (they are different, however slightly) see both ideologies as almost natural combinations or extensions of the other. Small government, the free market, free speech, and etcetera.

I thought this test was terrible. I almost dismissed it immediately on the basis of my opinion that an accurate reading can't be achieved in just 16 (some of them poorly worded) questions.
