Well they blew up the Chicken Man in Philly last night
Now they blew up his house too
Down on the boardwalk they're gettin' ready for a fight
Gonna see what them racket boys can do
~ Bruce Springsteen, "Atlantic City"
In recognition of the Phillies/Yankees World Series, I've decided to make the sequel to my original Omertà game Philadelphia vs. New York-themed. The system I'll be using is essentially the same as the original, with a few minor tweaks.
Atlantic City, Fall, 2009
Earlier in the year, the Philadelphia Mafia was on the brink of extinction after two of its precious Made men turned Stoolie, violating the unbreakable code of Omertà, or silence and absolute loyalty. As is custom with Mafia conflicts, the outcome was very bloody, with only three of its members surviving either arrest or death. Finally, when it seemed as if the family was on the verge of collapse and Don Anthony Giampetro had just been apprehended by the police, the Don's Hand, acting under orders, eliminated the final threat to the family, thus closing off the police's "in" to the organization.
Quietly, the family began to organize under the direction of its new Don, Vincent Selvo. As it turns out, Don Selvo was more adept than anyone could imagine, and within a span of months he had almost built the family's numbers back to the way they were before the Stoolie Crisis. However, as the Don is about to find out, numbers do not equal trustworthiness.
You see, the Five Families of New York, sensing an opening, began to move their men into Atlantic City, which had always been Philadelphia territory by orders of the legendary Mafia Commission. Don Selvo, upon discovering this, took offense and took his case to the New York-dominated Commission, which promptly denied any instances of wrongdoing. Seething, Don Selvo decided to take matters into his own hands and began to move the bulk of his operations to the Jersey Shore resort town in order to send a message and muscle any potential competition out of the way.
It seemed to be a success, with Don Selvo quickly reestablishing dominance over his former territory. However, little did he know that the Commission had anticipated his move and already inserted operatives of their own into his family. Faced with extinction once more, Don Selvo and the new incarnation of the Catalano Crime Family must use the best of their abilities to root out the traitors and reclaim what was once theirs. With tensions between Philadelphia and New York already at a boiling point because of the World Series, the savvier residents of Atlantic City realize that things are going to get bloody before a winner is decided.
This is war. This is Omertà II: The Battle for Atlantic City.
Game basics:
Welcome to Omertà, a small Mafia game, named after the infamous code of silence as outlined in the prologue to the first game. Much of that game is based off of George Anastasia's book Blood and Honor, which I highly recommend and I hope to turn into a Large game one day far down the road. This incarnation follows its predecessor several months afterwards, taking into account that game's outcome.
The main twist of this game is that everyone is a mafioso; however, some of these things are not like the other.
Rules:
Standard rules apply. No screenshots, no quoting PMs when dead, etc. "Abstain" and "No lynch" are both acceptable options, although it is entirely within my discretion as host to change the rules and what kind of votes I accept at any time.
Roles:
Each player will receive a PM with abilities, some of which are unique, some of which are not. Some players may have no abilities aside from the standard townie ones. I may eventually rework this post to provide more information about roles here. For now, Don Vincent Selvo is the only role that is guaranteed to be on the Philadelphia mafia's (town's) side. The Don's powers include partial immunity.
Should he wish to play, Sasaki Kojiro will automatically be granted the role of Don Selvo, as that was his role in the last game. Should he choose not to join, the role will randomly be assigned.
Finally:
Have fun!
