Thread: Read this all! [More cities in Greece]

Default Read this all! [More cities in Greece]

We must make corrections on the map in the Greek mainland. The city-states of Thebes, Argos, Ilis, Larissa, Pilos, Thessalonika are not in the map and they were major city-states in ancient Greece! We must make a new version including these city-states as well other cities that were major but not in the campaign map.

There was more in the world than just Greece.

That's seriously all I'm going to say about it.

EDIT: Okay fine, I'll explain. Thebes had been completely razed by Alexander. It was rebuilt but lost its importance. I don't know that much about Argos, but I don't see any reason why Sparta can't fulfil the role Argos has. Ilis/Elis(?) was located too close to Korinthos, same goes for Pilos, Larissa is located too close to Demetrias, Thessalonika's role is fulfiled by Pella.

Before Greece, there are areas that deserve more cities, in my opinion; Mesapotamia and Iran, as well as Gandhara and Sicily.

Rebretably enough, the campaign map of RTW has a maximum of 199 cities. It's hardcoded. There's no way the EB team can implent even more cities, only CA themselves can change that.

I agree with Hax,and even more, in my opinion there are already TOO MUCH greek cities in the area, compared to eastern regions, even if in our modern occidental schools we don't learn a thing about it.

Even if it would be possible, you wouldn't be able to even move in Greece with that much cities on such a small piece of land.

    Welcome to the forums.

You can't just barge in here telling people how you want a mod to be...

If you want to, make your own Graeco-centric submod.

I remember that RTR Greece was pretty crowsded.

    That.

Also, like others have said, cities are needed elsewhere. The map goes from Ireland to India, you can't just put fifteen cities in Greece. It would screw up the balance in other parts of the map. Where would you take the regions from? The east already has huge area between cities, you couldn't do it there. Africa is in a similar situation, and the Western Europe is important for Roman expansion, or whoever else decides to take over. You could probably get away with taking away regions from Britain, but like I said, it wouldn't work too well for Greece.

In all fairness the OP probably did not know about the limit on provinces and merely wanted a more historical game- perhaps Greece was all he knew about and noticed a disrepancy between his perception and the Team's depiction. I did not know about any such limts before join this forum.

However, Fluvius is right. just barging in and starting to tell The Team what to do is... not optimum politeness. Anyone with any experience in modding or insight into the gargantuan task modding RTW and MTW is would be slightly more careful with their statements. I have nothing against questioning the team on historical matters, but modding ones... nope. They are working their behinds off with no recompension from any of us except demands for a faster release of EB II and some praise now and then...

Step carefully newcomer, till you know what you are speaking about.

That being said, welcome to the Forum :-D

I'm going to be myself and not make ass-umptions about the OP like you fellows here. As for you HAX, are you some sort of Persian? More cities in Persia...psh! OP is more than correct, he is not at fault. The only thing at fault is the game. But we must make the best out of what we have, and we must be thankful for what we have. Take everything for granted and you've got nothing.

No, I'm partially Turkish, Arabic and Dutch.

You misunderstand what I said. I meant that if some cities would be relocated, Persia, Gandhara and Sicily would be more deserving of some cities before Greece would.

It could even be argued (Not very well, mind) that Greece has too many cities, and some should be relocated from Hellas to one of those regions.

Well, the only one I could think of is Chalkis, but I think Greece is fine as it is. Perhaps Lysimacheia could be added, which is north of the Bosporan strait. I don't know.

they would have indeed deserved to be mentioned but not on the scale the map is on(cosidering how much space a city takes and the province limit) and even as a KH player I have to say that greece is almost a bit too crowded. the city dense is favorable for greece as it is and I'm happy with it :D

cute wolf, what happened to your avatar? I swear it used to be different...

and i wont expand on what everyone else said, but i will say that i'm fairly sure there is a graeco-centric RTW mod out there that I've seen, though it could be a Mount and Blade mod. I'm pretty sure it is RTW though.

however, it is wise to keep in mind that a mod centered on greece is likely to have many units that are essentially the same, as every greek city-state used hoplites extensively. I think the only real variation would maybe be from Crete, the other Aegean islands, Persia, and Macedonia. yes, Sparta and Thebes and everyone had their own elite units, but still they would mostly be massed hoplite armies. so graeco-centric, like any other region, would be cool, but not a whole lot of variation in the units.

IMHO each of us has a different feel which areas should have more cities and which less.
I for one never played with the Casse, so those cities in modern Great Britain have no value for me. I would be delighted though if i could see more cities in Sicily, Persia, and to some extent even Micra asia. Also i would love for Maroneia to be in, since it would give a city in the Greek mainland that the Ptolemies controled, or some smaller island in the Aegean would be very nice as well.

Therefore imho the map is as perfect as it can be under the circumstances. I would be extremly delighted though, if the team decided to add a city on Sicily. Agrigento or Panormus. Perhaps by taking an Irish one

What does the city of Megara at Herodotus time and all Greece of Plutarch have in common?

Anyway OP, just wait till Hegemonia gets released.
