    Lightbulb MTW2 - Burebista style

    Hi there,

I have some cool screenshots from the GC Convention ... care to take a look?! ... just sit down and relax first before looking. This are done with a mobile phone camera so the quality is poor. As for the content ...well, it is nice.

    Good pics, thanks for posting!

Graphics-wise, they look pretty nice, I like the Billmen/Longbowmen pics, it really shows of the variety within a unit.

About the pachyderms, well, the less said the better. Did you see any flaming pigs to counter? I think I know what I'll be modding out first...

That battle with the crusader army and the turks, with all those palm trees around, looks like an awsome battleground. However, Im very dissappointed at those elephant cannons.

Yeah ... I used to play them on an Aztec map ...sry. the rest I played them in desert to avoid vegetation in my view. I have like 150 more.

Anyway the cannon elephants were partially acurate .... there is an info that said that some indians had tryed to do it once ...

    Check your books ;)

Very true and I think they tried it more then once even.
Besides charging, the elephants maintained a vital role in providing a stable and a safe platform for archers to fire arrows in the middle of the battlefield, from where more targets could be seen and engaged. The elephant mahouts, and riders in the elephant carriages carried bows and arrows to attack on coming cavalry and infantry and also carried long spears for close quarters combat. The archery evolved into more advanced weapons, and several Khmer and Indian kings have utilized giant crossbow platforms (similar to the Ballista) to fire long armor piercing shafts to kill other enemy War Elephants and chariots/cavalry. The late 1500s also saw the use of culverin on elephants, but the onset of gunpowder made the large and relatively slow war elephants obsolete.

    Thanks for the pictures Callatian

It looks like landbridges are used, in scandinavia at least. And we finally get to see a screeny depicting the ransoming process. Good stuff.

I guess cannon mounted elephants are OK if they're all deaf! Sorry, I don't buy that a lot of elephants took kindly to a large BOOM going off right behind their ears.

I'll put up with the cannons/ rocket launchers/ whatever on elephants as long as someone will answer one question- where are the goddamn mahouts? Do these elephants control themselves?

you are one lucky guy to get a chance to get your hands on the game. the pictures you took looked pretty good. actually they should have hired you to give an overview as you took lots of varied pictures. they have answered some questions in my mind. the models look even better than i imagined. the longbowmen picture show good variety of models. they must have had a good computer because i saw the unit sizes and they were pretty big. the one scotland attacks picture show about 2500+ for each size.

    Ok I have 2 questions :

    1) Does the brothel have any ohter function then population happiness?
2)Captured soldiers can be released, executed,or ransomed.
What is the point of releasing them?

As I recall it, in MTW, it gave your general a better rep, which helped in civil government. It also had an effect on diplomacy toward the defeated faction. Slaughtering them gave the general Dread, which was useful in combat and in repressing newly conquered populaces. Selling them gave you cash, and while it was usually way too little, it was a fun way of making war "pay itself".

Artillery obviously plays a big part in the game if all those cannons and rockets and Elephant Mobile Cannons are anything to go by. The highly mobile carriage ballistae of the RTW BI expansion showed CA's love of gimmicks, and the same thing is apparent here. Reviewers will lap it up. I'm really hoping CA found some document that claims Elephants were given wings in one battle and could fly above the battlefield and then drop like a bomb on the enemy. Controlling the 1st Airborne Elephant Bomber Command unit would be ace! And totally historic no doubt.

I was quite impressed by some of those screenshots though. Not bad for a mobile phone camera. But I find myself more interested in the campaign map screenshots. It's there where we probably learn the most about the game as there's only so many times you can see a picture of a battle and go, 'cooo!' and 'ace man!' etc.

    1) Brothels produce spies, just like in the first MTW (it says so in the screenshot).
    2) already been answered, although I think there might be another advantage other than chivalry: if you release the good troops into your province, you might be able to recruit them as mercenaries straight afterwards - it would be good to steal any of the enemy's troops you capture.
