Yeah the only one who thought that the unit may be lugian, both here and on TWC. Sadly no, there are other factions which were more important than the Lugians for that timeframe. Which factions those are will be revealed in the future.

Hmm, the head of the mythical beast on top looks almost exactly like that of a 6th century BC Griffon protome of the Greek 'orientalizing' style - but it seems more likely based on late Achaemenid Persian Art of the 4th Century BC, not to speak of later Hellenistic variants of this motive... ;)

Are you guys sure the experiment with the elephant and the LSD dates from the '30s? I know of an experiment (overdosis LSD) with an elephant at 1962 (link (http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/lsd/lsd_history4.shtml)). And as far as I know (and wikipedia seems to confirm my memory) LSD was hardly developed by the 1930s.

(On a sidenote: the US-army seems to have given LSD to some Vietnamsoldiers to improve their concentration. After some disastrous effects, the program was suddenly cancelled. At least that's what a history-student's paper told me. :D)

This looks very good - the equipment, the detail... I have one remark, however. Why the skin of most of those soldiers is so smooth and their faces so happy? It deprives them of character. They look like happy boys with weapons.

The second pic (i believe they are the boii nietos) look like some sturdy and impassable soldiers who live by fighting...

On a game-engine note: I don't believe that there's a shouting animation in the game, so you have to choose between a ever-screaming one or those posted...

The screenshots were taken with the cinematic editor, you will never look at the units so close ingame. It's easy to find mistakes with such a level of zoom; but I think they look good enough.

That's actually an optical illusion. Use relative lengths to measure the approximate length of the shields and you will immediately realize that the shields the phalangitai wear are actually only 2 feet in diameter. The aspis should be around 4 feet in diameter if memory serves me correctly.

No they are a mix of Boii, Arverni and Aedui shields. Note that the most colorful ones are for elite units, like argoi, and the most simple ones are for basic units.

Your screenshots are black because you have anti-aliasing turned on. If you turn that off, your screenshots will be fine, though the graphics will obviously take a hit. It's an old problem with the R:TW engine.

IIRC, if you, after taking a screenshot, paste (ctrl+v) in paint or some similar program, you won't get the black screen problem - regardless of your anti-aliasing settings.

The pronunciation guide seems a good idea. For example I was amazed when I learned (from EB naturally) that Caesar was not originally pronounced "sizar", the problem being the English retained the latin spelling but not the latin pronunciation. And then I realised that in greek (my mother tongue) the word is pronounced "kesar" and written "καισαρ". Αpparently the ancient greeks wrote the name the way they heard it, without consideration for latin spelling since they used another alphabet. Same thing with the Celts (Κελτοι).

These precious bits of information create the atmosphere of the mod.

But this why we normally never say when something will be finished, because in a team of volunteers you just don't know what may limit progress next.

Since this is the chatty thread, something I've noticed in the screenshots to date: more skin. By which I mean there seems to be a lot more detail in the M2:TW graphical engine of naked flesh (like musculature), and thusly there seems to be more units taking advantage of that. Even where it's just bare arms and legs. Is that conscious decision on the part of the team to take advantage of it?

I can see what you are getting at but it's simpler than that. Even from the outset, EB 1 was clearly developed with some technical limits in mind. For instance almost none of the EB 1 skins use the full resolution that RTW is capable of because early on in the design of EB 1 it was considered too heavy for graphics hardware to handle. Also, in EB 1 units were often portrayed on the decidedly higher end of the spectrum, compared to EB 2.

Additionally, the M2TW further increases resolution over RTW, allows for unit variation, has a much improved lighting system and contains provisions for other visual goodness. Taking these all into account it is small wonder why the skins of a mod that always was about painstaking attention to detail now look even more a visual celebration of little touches and details and quirks.

So in short: it's a whole range of graphics upgrades combined to create something awesome in every respect, rather than a central decision by the team to focus on particular details.
