Especially due to the fact that the last years a few literary texts were found shedding some decent light on Sayhad religion, especially Sabaean. For long there was almost nothing but short inscriptions. But especially thanks to the new excavations of the Mahram Bilqis, we've got some decent stuff to work with. Sadly there have been few publications on it. Most what you find is out dated and often even still based on the now dismissed theories by Nielsen, or on Mediterranean centric views on ancient mythology.

Ok i conclude that the work on unit roaster, generals etc. is largely done and DeathFinger is working on integrating it into the campaign. It was a bit ambiguous on twitter. To such an extent it is really good news, because finally it means that the work on the factions is coming to an end. Bridging the time with Hegemony City States, 3rd Age and HoI3 for so long.

historically their main problem was that you couldn´t have cavalry if you used those babies and if we consider that todays closest living relative to those beauty´s are the chicken then their original place of domestication south east asia doesn´t show up in our map wich brings in more problems in explaining and portraying the enviroment in wich they ended up being domesticated originally, most archeological evidences show that at the start they consumed only 1 virgin every 2 weeks per animal until people started to feed them with pigs and other mamals wich lead to an increase in their methabolic rate and their numbers increased dramatically wich caused demographic problems due to the competition for food most empires that used them where considered invincible but fell down due to internal problems because everytime there was a draught those babies revolted and started eating the peasents wich lead to popular outcry against the excessive budget of the army required to mantain those special units wich where inefective in amphibious attacks or against simple stakes in the ground

in many ways and in comparison with todays civilizations they could be considered the atom bomb of their day since the creation costs too much resources and once you use them you´ll be doomed in the short medium term so yes they look nice but their priçe goes far beyond their recruitment cost (/stupidity)

so what's wrong with that again? this happens all the time- English has been affected that way by Norman French (far more than Farsi was by Arabic too), as have almost every romance language out there has been affected by Germanic languages-especially French (e.g. Guerre instead of Bellum, Forêt/Bois instead of Silva, several names like Louis, Guillaume, etc). Even one Arabic dialect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maltese_language)has been so heavily influenced by Italian and English it's now considered a separate language-and these are just a few examples. It's what happens when people want to invade/migrate intermingle.

Did I mention Arabic has a lot of loanwords from Persian?

@ athanaric: I think it was for the same reason people on the eastern seaboard of the US emulated British accents (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwvONJXJUO4)in the 19th century: it was the fashionable thing.

and considering we only spoke in Arabic to each other, his insistence was normal (he spoke little English, and I don't know any Persian*)-it's also the correct Arabic word. I could go on to explain in detail what occurred for him to insist, but I can't be bothered, and I pretty much gave away the clue to it-the fact that we spoke in Arabic.

@ rickinator: I've been all sorts of places, but I spent a good deal of my childhood in Kuwait, where the guy lived- he had a family business in block three, in one of the side ways branching out of Al-khansa' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Khansa%27) street in Salmiyya (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salmiya)- across the street from where we lived, about a kilometer from the Co-op store and a Mosque. I went there almost every day for groceries, and naturally got to know him.

You're quite the optimist, eh?
My EBII-related expectations for 2012 include another faction preview and perhaps - if it is a good year - a preview about a few of the new game mechanics.
I don't even dream of a release this year.

(Please note that this is in no way means I'm unsatisfied. EB II and it's planned features is no mod but a real new game, even moreso than EB I. And since the team has to work on all these breathtaking ideas when coming home from a stressful and/or time-consuming daily job - not to even mention something as exotic and excentric as "private life" or "family" - I am absolutely fine with the information that there after all those years of dedication still is progress. )

Noble Wrath

A pseudo-corinthian helmet. It would probably be worn by an upper class greek, roman or possibly phoinician. Now the cute little pony is one of those unsolved historical mysteries..

Tux
02-09-2012, 10:46
And Blxz was saved by Noble Wrath.~:)

Indeed a pseudo-corinthian is the correct and now to your prize Noble Wrath, some eye candy and explanantions related to the workflow.

The historians gathered some pictures from various sources, such as coins, for some of the type of helmets used in Eb2, in this case:
https://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o276/keravnos/Keravnos9/Ptolemaios-x-85-40BCE.jpg

https://img179.imageshack.us/img179/8433/img0730gi1.jpg

However this isn't too useful for a 3d artist and hard to use so a concept artist will draw some detailed blueprints based on these. In this case, Gleemonex, a former member and great artist who sadly dissappeared:
https://img444.imageshack.us/img444/3121/pseudocorinthian3crestsml6.jpg

Finally based on this, and thanks to Gleemonex for the decoration in the concept, the model and textures are created:
https://img192.imageshack.us/img192/3940/31142705.jpg

https://img534.imageshack.us/img534/7254/42559062.jpg
https://img849.imageshack.us/img849/7293/99458375.jpg
https://img688.imageshack.us/img688/333/17685485.jpg
https://img862.imageshack.us/img862/2265/56388364.jpg
https://img18.imageshack.us/img18/2628/79268123.jpg

And finally we have a low and can also have high poly version of the given helmet.

I hope you enjoyed this sneak peak and have a better understanding of how our workflow is in some cases.

Noble Wrath
02-09-2012, 11:18
This is some eye candy! Thanks sir, the work of the team (and yours in this case) is always a marvel to behold.
I get the feeling that the horse drawing resembles a dragon. Could it be a symbol from the colonies of the Black Sea? Perhaps a case of syncretism, an influence from the dragon standards of the iranian nomads? Or I may be talking nonsense :-)

stratigos vasilios
02-09-2012, 11:37
I was just about to point out the dragon as an interesting helmet decoration but NW has kindly done so already. I'm not sure, I've never really seen that sort of dragon design. I'd be interested to know it's influence and where it's from, either now (if Tux et al. feel generous) or at the next preview (whenever that may be).

i don´t think they are historical i mean to paint over 30.000 men of blue is like having a white elephant not to mention that many of the dyes back then caused serious health concerns so altough there seems to be some evidence of their existence it´s a bit like the korinthian hoplitai they can be represented by regular hoplitai/phallangitai so using a unit card just for a unit of phallangitai wich may or may not have been fully painted in blue with white cotton pantaloons and only using a phrygian cap and no other armour whatsoever seems irrelevant and nitpicking

Sneak peak :)

If those are going to be ingame, it will be awesome. They are very detailed indeed

Tux
03-19-2012, 21:39
Well those helmets are high-poly made only for preview purposes which may end up being used in loading screens and concept art.
They also use hi-res textures(i.e. 1024*1024 which is half the size of a unit texture, 2048*1024) so in game they won't look like that and will only be used by general or officers(as they use 4096*2048 textures).

So the low poly version would look like this(of course with reflection replaced by the game):
https://img41.imageshack.us/img41/723/97866321.jpg

In conclusion the specs should be similar, but higher, than those of M2TW.
I hope that clear things up. :)

It's a "trick" to conserve polys. The string is actually made of two planes. ~:)

haha, that's sleek. however ... that be a Cretan archer?

and what about the fireing animation? - is the stirng/set of two planes going to ... bend?

I've been holding my breath and it's been painful.

if you have done this longer than c.10-20 minutes, I suggest calling either of the following:

If you are still alive:
1-the Guiness book of records
2-a doctor or researcher

if dead (whether you are walking or not):
3-the coroner (I suggest that for you relations)
4-a zombie hunter.

the last part is in case you do reply after death, since you'd obviously be a zombie.

I would rather have a somewhat less obscure occultus banner right now, because we still aren't able to get a grasp of what it is.
