Prologue: The Setting
"Hello, and welcome back to Radio Gameroom with our regular host, Diamondeye the DJ!"
"Thank you, JB, and welcome back to all of the listeners who didn't want to stay for the ads - I have to tell you, it's your own fault if you miss any of the exciting mafia games that are running ads on our station at the moment! Anyway, we're about to wrap up today's program so you can all have a good and quiet night of sleeping, or of performing villaineous acts under the cover of night! The last track I've got for you today is one of my personal favourites, so lean back and enjoy!"

Few, if any, of the inhabitants of the Gameroom, many of them regular listeners of the Gameroom Radio, realize exactly how the station maintains its quality programme. Many of them have wondered about it, about the strange quality of the sound, the unique touch that the tracks seem to always have, and the exquisite selection of artists that are chosen to be aired. None would be able to guess the secret that is the formula of success for the fameous station. No, it is a secret known only by the DJ, Diamondeye, and his assistant, JB.
And the artists, of course.
*Creeeeeeak*
"They've left for the night! Time to get working on tomorrow's programme! Come on out of the cabinet, everyone!"
"Chill, man, it's not like we're in a hurry or something! We've got all night - let's party!"
A skittering sound gave away the miniscule artists as they paced across the floor of the small kitchen and into the studio...
Welcome to Music Mafia!
This game takes place in a strange universe which the above prologue will gist at - don't worry, there will be more exposition and explanation in the opening post of the game itself, and in your role PMs, should you choose to play!
To get the basics out; Each player will be playing one of the artists - many of them will be commonly known musical artists, and all of them will be names taken from the real-world musical scene. It is your job - if you're a "townie" role - to make sure that Radio Gameroom makes it past the impending crisis (which will kickstart the game it-self, story-wise) and still have its reputation intact!
There will be a single untraditional, special element in the game; Each role will have two 'alignments': One which determines the opinion that the listeners have of you, and one which determines the opinion that the DJ has (or had?) of you. 'Townie' roles will have an alignment of "good" on at least one of these axises, whereas 'mafia' will have an alignment of "bad" on at least one of these axises.
I am looking for 18 players for the game, preferably. The game will probably start in a couple of days or so, providing a decent turn-up.

I'm glad you asked because I've gotten further with the design since that was written. The original idea was that just one "bad" was enough to be scum...
Clarification (Will also be posted in rules when game starts):
Your popularity determines your victory condition.
Your favor with the DJ determines your secondary goal (depending on your VC).
Each player will also have a "flourish", sort of like a personal goal.
Each of these require the fulfilment of the former goals. Which means there are four scores available: Loss, VC fulfilled, VC + SG fulfilled, and VC, SG and flourish fulfilled (impressive!).
It is my hope that people will aim for their SGs and so on and consider this structure from the start, as some of the roles will require some planning if you're to have a good shot at the higher scores.
I hope that didn't scare anyone away :beam:

Begins...
The next morning, the Artists were done, and as always they were proud of their night's work. And as always, they were eager for the appreciation that they knew their DJ would pour over them when he sent their masterpieces out on the airwaves to all of the gameroom.
And sure enough, their friend was all smiles when he met, greeting them as he locked the door after letting JB in. They handed him the music disks, and he went into the small studio, JB following right behind him.
Then, they heard a strange, pounding noise, and a muffled scream. They looked nerveously at each other. Finally, one of them gathered enough courage to look into the studio. The brave Artist came back with a frightful face. "He's out cold, guys. I'm sure that JB fellow did it!"
"But where is he?"
"... I didn't see him anywhere."
"Okay, well I guess it's just up to us seventeen to run this thing until he wakes up."
"Eighteen. I count eighteen."
...
And thus, the Artists, with a known infiltrator among them, would have to take care of the Radio channel day and night until their beloved DJ woke up. And before he would, they knew they had an infiltrator to catch. Artists are rivalrous by nature, and these were no exception: Without the unifying leadership of their beloved DJ, each quickly saw the chance to win fame for him- or herself. Some might even go as far as to side with the intruder for personal gain.
They had to save the Radio Gameroom before they would all face the uncertain destiny of their DJ, surrendering their precious airwaves and the trust of their listeners to those who would seek to ruin the tastes of the innocent orgahs.
Rules:
Quoting Personal messages in private are not allowed. You may quote (and misquote) these in the public thread.
Each phase will last 24 hours, or thereabout. I will tell at the beginning of each phase how long it will be.
Voting format is as follows; vote:Diamondeye for votes, Unvote; vote:Diamondeye for unvoting and then voting.
During the next half an hour or so, Role PMs will be sent out. Everyone will receive one!

Note: Popularity describes your popularity with the listeners. This determines your Victory Condition.
Favor describes your popularity with the DJ, Diamondeye, This, in combination with your Popularity, determines your Secondary Goal. It has no influence on your Victory Condition.
Abilities:
Victory Condition (Popularity):
Secondary Goal (Favor & Popularity):
Flourish:
You should pay special attention to the Victory Condition, Secondary Goal and Flourish. These are what will be used for "scoring" when the game is over.
The "Good" Victory Condition is "All "Bad" Popularity players are defeated."
The "Good"/"Good" Secondary Goal is "Survive until the end of the game."
The Flourishes are different to each character, with no apparent pattern to them.
Your three goals are always inclusive, and you must fulfill the prior for the latter to count!

Private talks are allowed. Quoting Personal Messages (from either host or another player) is not allowed in private, but are allowed in the thread (these can be forged, obviously).

You were already voting for yourself. Also if you look at the rules, the Flourish goal doesn't count unless you've completed all your other goals.
Your three goals are always inclusive, and you must fulfill the prior for the latter to count!
It seems foolish to aim for your flourish goal immediately, specially if it means voting for yourself or ending up lynched as this wouldn't be helping your primary goal, on the contrary.
I think this is just another of your 'I'm gonna look scummy' tactic, and we'll have to decide what your true intent is. Personally I won't be putting with your nonsense for long, so you better be acting different tomorrow or my vote might land on you. :smug2::

I'm not going to intentionally ruin my flourish on the first day. I get to play this game with one hand tied behind my back, and I'm giving it my best effort. I also love how the very nonsense you "won't be putting up with for long" is the exact same nonsense you said was evil and distracting in the past two games I've been town, and town won, and I didn't get lynched, and the town won.
If you think it's a tactic, call me on it, put me in a situation where I have to save myself by voting for someone else. When I let myself die, your theory will go out the window.

I might as well state for the record what my conflicting interests are here.
I have a flourish which is to avoid lynching anyone with my vote. I also have a townie interest in seeing scum die.
John's move is worth losing my flourish over. Ummm but I do kinda have personal reasons to be grateful if someone spares John, seeing as I am shooting myself in the foot to provide this tiebreaker situation for you guys.

End of Day One
The Artists were quick to get down to brass tacks and accuse each other of being agents of poor music taste. It was almost as if they had been storing these arguments against each other for aeons before this situation arose. At the end of a hard day's work where they had coorporated just to have the music play on the Radio, without the charming with of their still prone DJ in between, they were thoroughly tired and ready to do almost anything to end their current peril.
And so it came to be that two suspects had been picked out, each with the votes of four others to their names, johnhughthom and Visorslash were both sweating nerveously as the working day ended and the Artists could gather to decide what to do before they had to go make the music programme for the next day.
The two suspects were standing at the end of the desk, their backs against the huge fall to the floor behind them. Several other artists were pushing towards them, but in the end, johnhughthom pushed Visorslash. He balanced for a moment, and then he regained his balance. As if not believing he had saved himself, he stood for a moment before he pushed johnhughthom in retaliation. john tipped and fell out from the ledge. When they looked down, they saw the prone figure of johnhughthom sprawled motionless across the floor.
johnhughthom was Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits)

Yeah, I pretty much can take the blame on that one.
If it wasn't literally 3 minutes before the deadline, I wouldn't have thought it was scummy, and I certainly wouldn't have risked my flourish on it. That one was not JHT's fault at all.
Had the round not gone to a coin flip, John would have tied with Khazaar instead, and I wouldn't have had my vote on John at all. I didn't know how ties would be broken, I thought either a runoff, sudden death....
If sudden death he was surely townie. If a runoff, I could have gotten him lynched without voting him at all, and if the round just continued...

The first night ends...
Seon was sitting alone with his guitar, strumming the strings and mumbling into the microphone. He was too lost in his own creatious to notice a figure sneaking up on him. The figure stopped for a moment, wondering if what Seon was doing could actually be called singing. Eventually, the assailant decided it didn't matter, and slammed Seon's head with its weapon. Seon's hair was all sticky in blood as he was prone on the floor, his guitar still in his grip.

That's true, I used lyrics in that game to attempt to draw someone's attention, but you know full-well why I did it and how pointless it turned out to be. The reasoning for doing so in this game is much more simple; this is very much a case of Chaotix's CoV game... cool character, awful role.

I think that the case of the Animus slightly different, since there was no indicators that Sir Walter Raleigh would be a role in that section of the game; he's a notable figure of the time period, but he wasn't a participant in the defeat of the Armada.
And I'm aware it's WIFOMy, but it has to be said nonetheless.
Poor show. I disliked my role, but at least made an attempt to play as him.
That doesn't make sense; why would I overtly play my role when there's no cause to do so?
This isn't like Hall of Fame, where I had to connect with Double A and resorted to posting Buckley lyrics in an attempt to gain his attention... in that case, that was the only way to garner attention and connect with someone who picked up on what I was saying.
In this game, my connection to other players begins and ends with my flourish, a requirement for five Good/Good players to survive the game. There is nothing to gain by revealing my identity, as there was in your game.

Look at it this way; if I don't reveal my identity, I'll likely be lynched for my supposed claim to be someone I wasn't. If I do claim, I will either be branded a liar and lynched anyway, or the mafia will kill me since there's nothing for them to gain from me being in the game.
It's a lose-lose situation either way, that's just how these things seem to go for me.
So who would you suggest for a lynch? I don't mind being interrogated, but lynching me is.... :(

Hmmmmm, TheLastDays looked like a good bet at first, though he is looking increasingly like naive town rather than lacadaisical mafia; he's just made far too many glaringly questionable posts to be a possible scummer, particularly for Day One.
I think that robbiecon and Believer are strong choices.

Gaga was obviously a role given Diamondeye's posts before and during the game, it would take a foolish player to masquerade as her if they had something to lose, which they inevitably would were they mafia or even a power role; the real Gaga could claim at any time they liked, and killing them would simply reveal the mafiioso for what they really were.
You can call that WIFOM if you wish, but it's utilising alot more logic than any argument against me has done so thus far; I still think the argument does me a discredit as a player, too.

One example, but there's been other games where the mafia have been pinned down early based on their activities in the opening stages of the game; that one was merely fresh in the memory because it was a game I hosted and the last one that I actively read.
You asked for my opinion on who to lynch, and I gave it; I believe that they're valid choices, and hope that you'll consider them as such once my alignment and role has been revealed. :3

I'm saying that I don't believe we have any strong choices. Literally nothing has happened that could allow there to be.
I remember in a recent game, I nailed a scum who used P.I.S. They didn't believe me, tried to lynch me the next day, I survived, and only due to robbiecon revealing, did they finally believe me.
One example, but there's been other games where the mafia have been pinned down early based on their activities in the opening stages of the game; that one was merely fresh in the memory because it was a game I hosted and the last one that I actively read.

Even if you spared me from the lynch now, someone would only bring me up as a possible candidate at a later time, which is terrible when numbers dwindle and each lynch becomes more important; so, if there's any suspicion as to my role, then it's better to get rid of me now rather than leave me alive and have the hard choice come up later.
Of course, that's if the mafia leave me alive as lynchbait rather than outright kill me.

That's true, I used lyrics in that game to attempt to draw someone's attention, but you know full-well why I did it and how pointless it turned out to be. The reasoning for doing so in this game is much more simple; this is very much a case of Chaotix's CoV game... cool character, awful role.
This should be the explanation why Secura soft-claimed Lady Gaga (but wasn't). I don't understand Secura.... You used Lady Gaga's lyrics because you have an awful role?
Why you would do that, if not to draw the real Lady Gaga out. Explain it again.

Highly doubt it that would mean there is 3 killers in the game since Secura never kills as a sk. And there was two kills last night she is either scum or a townie doing a foolish thing that allows for scum to jump on the wagon. If she turns out to be innocent I would have a close look at voters numbers two and three since there is nothing scum like better then a case where their appears to be evidence.

How is it scummy, why is it scummy, none of this makes any sense to me. How is it a useful tactic as scum? In what way does it ensure or better the odds of her survival?
Is it even WIFOM-y? How could she use her apparently "scummy" behavior as evidence of her innocence... it still baffles me anyone would think it is scummy at all.

Of course she a good player, enough to know that this "soft-claim" would get her into trouble, no matter if she's Town or Mafia, if the real Lady Gaga counter-claims her. So why did she do it? I just don't understand.

Before this game even started, and thus, before Secura had her role, she altered her title, as did Diamondeye, to include reference to Gaga.
Secura is a Gaga fan, as am I and several others here. The fact that she would RP as someone she loves is not evidence of scum, especially if she was doing so before the game began.
I wanted to be weird Al Yankovic, and I'm not, but if I started quoting weird Al, it wouldn't be scummy of me. It would be me being a fan.
I honestly, do not see how it is a tell. In order for odd behavior to be used as evidence of scum, I need to see one of the following things be true:
1) That kind of behavior has to be at least slightly more common from mafia than as town (psychological tell)
2) It needs to make sense as a strategy, even in the WIFOM sense. (tactical tell)
Neither applies here, it cannot be a tell, even if she were scum. It's not connected.
Now, I'm not saying she's innocent either. She could indeed be scum. But the case on her is absolutely meaningless, and I'll stand by those words.

Secura is a bit quirky. "Knowing better" doesn't necessarily apply. Remember her performances as SK and as Mafia where she didn't go all killer instinct on us.
She doesn't play with teeth, she plays for fun. And as her win record as mafia shows, that's good enough. You're seeing a tactic where there probably is no tactic.

My reasoning is twofold, really; I'm vanilla (despite being a cool musician :<), and thus the only impact I can have is posts and votes... quoting Gaga's lyrics was a means of fun, to fill the gap while I waited for an inevitable cannon fodder death, as per. My reasoning was, if I can scrape by and live past the early game, I could have a greater impact on the game itself.
The second reason is simple discussion; it's certainly got everyone talking and it's gone beyond my expectations by causing a few slip-ups in people's logic as they try to jump on an easy bandwagon... even if y'all follow through and lynch me, you've got stuff to go on with for later rounds.
I realise that I haven't actually voted, so I'm going to follow my earlier convictions and vote: Believer. You were particularly active in Animus, yet here you're skirting by, barely posting... what gives?
